House of Halos Couture Accessories and My Wedding News!

Posted on May 30, 2013

Guess what… I’m getting married! In September! Eeeek!

I’ve been engaged for many (five) years but we are only now getting round to planning the actual wedding. Planning a wedding literally takes over your life. Those that have survived to tell the tale will understand where I’m coming from. So as this is such a big part of my life right now I thought I really should start blogging about the ins and outs of preparing for marital bliss!

I hope for this to be the first of many wedding themed posts. I imagine some will be nice, like this one, and in some you will find me ranting and stressing as I slowly evolve into bridezilla.

As you may know by now, I love anything that’s a little bit out there, a little bit different, and a little bit exciting. I’ve recently been looking for a bridal headband / headpiece / tiara for my wedding – I have the dress already so I’m now on the hunt for accessories. This is seeming to be quite a difficult task though as unfortunately they all appear to be rather similar, and not really to my taste.

Then I was introduced to the brand House of Halos. Arlene, the owner, designer and creative genius behind the brand makes the most gorgeous couture headpieces and accessories with her very own hands. You won’t find these in your bog standard high street bridal stores. Just take a look at some of these beauties…

Arlene also made this awesome necklace for Emeli Sande!

For something more on the spectrum of traditional, this headdress is so pretty, especially with the way the hair is styled.

What do you think of these pieces? I think they’re awesome. They’re so much more creative than anything I’ve seen so far. Sure some might be a bit ‘out there’ for a wedding, but they don’t have to be worn for a wedding! The point is they’re interesting, creative and different. I love them 🙂 Check out the House of Halos website for more gorgeous couture pieces and some amazing photography! xxx

Chanel / Bobbi Brown / Benefit Mascara Comparison and Review!

Posted on May 28, 2013

I’ve recently received three mascara freebies, a Chanel Le Volume De Chanel Mascara, Bobbi Brown Intensifying Long-Wear Mascara and Benefit They’re Real! Mascara, so I thought it would be great to review and compare them for you guys!

Mascara is such a difficult thing to test, you can’t really go into Boots and try them all on the back of your hand like eyeshadows or lipsticks, it seems most people go by recommendation, so hopefully this post will be of some use if you are looking for a new one!

So let’s start with Chanel. I signed up online with Stylist Magazine to receive a Chanel Le Volume De Chanel Mascara sample, to be honest I wasn’t sure if it was a genuine deal or not as I’d never heard of the website before but thought I’d give it a go, so I was quite pleased and surprised when the sample arrived! The packaging is very deluxe, in a typical Chanel black gloss finish, bordering on the side of lavish with a mirror (albeit cardboard) inside the mascara box.

I also received Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Mascara sample last week. This was completely random and unexpected which was nice!

And then I received a Benefit They’re Real! Mascara sample in this months Elle magazine.

Benefit They're Real! Mascara Review

TIME FOR A MASCARA PARTY!! 😀

So… firstly the brush comparison. Let’s start with Chanel. This brush is pretty chunky, but has very short bristles. It did seem to pick up a lot of product though.

Chanel Mascara Brush

Bobbi Brown – this brush is a lot thinner than the rest, it also didn’t seem to pick up much product on it at all.

Bobbi Brown Intensifying Mascara Brusg

Benefit – this brush was the largest and the bristles were a lot spikier than the others.

How does it look and feel on? So firstly here is my eye with no make up on at all, as you can see I have pretty short eyelashes, so finding a good mascara is important to me!

Eye no makeup

Chanel – The bristles were so short on the brush, and with my eyelashes being short too I found the mascara diffucult to apply and managed to get some on my eyelids. I did like that the brush picked up a lot of product though.

Chanel Mascara Closed

Bobbi Brown – I don’t know if the product was drying up a bit, or maybe an old sample, but it seemed a lot dryer than the Chanel and took a couple of coats to build up. The effect was less dense and clumpy than Chanel but my lashes did appear a bit longer.

Benefit – this was by far my favourite. I liked the large brush (though I wasn’t keen on the spikey feel of the bristles) You can see this has worked really well compared to the others. My lashes are much more defined and thicker looking.

Chanel Le Volume De Chanel Mascara £24.00

Bobbi Brown Intensifying Long-Wear Mascara £18.00

Well I hope this review and comparison has been helpful! I’d love to hear your thoughts on these mascaras! Have you tried any of them? xxx

OPI The Great and Powerful Oz Collection Nail Polish WIN!

Posted on May 26, 2013

How excited was I to find out I’d won the entire OPI Oz collection of nail polishes from HQ Hair! Yippeee!! I felt a bit special being randomly picked by Rafflecopter from 8643 entries!

I was going to do a blog post on the polishes but my previous Lime Crime nail polish has stained my nails, and the nude pink base coloures in the OPI collection are very sheer and I’ve tried but they won’t cover the green staining of some of my nails.

So instead I thought I’d try out a couple more Lime Crime colours with the OPI glitter topcoats. I know these are very opaque so there will be no problem covering my discoloured nails.

I’ve used Lime Crime ‘Milky Ways’ which is the nude colour, and ‘Lavindairy’ for the ring finger. I then tried a couple of the OPI glitter topcoats. ‘Which is Witch?’ is on the middle finger and ‘Lights of emerald City’ is on my thumb.

I just did a quick pattern in white on my index finger and thought I’d show off my new charm rings from H&M!

I found I had to put ‘Lights of Emerald City’ on really thickly to get the glitter out and move the shapes around with the brush for even coverage. I was in a bit of a rush as my little boy was demanding my attention so you can see below that the glitter has sunk into the Lime Crime polish underneath as I didn’t give it long enough to dry.

I love the holographic hexes in “Which is Witch?’ this polish was much easier to manipulate and get an even spread of glitter.

Overall I really like these two glitters! Have you tried out this collection? xx

Ideal Bedroom Wishlist

Posted on May 14, 2013

There are so many gorgeous things I want for my home right now, if only I could win the lottery! My next project is definitely the master bedroom. The room isn’t particularly big, and I have a second hand divan bed base which I really want to upgrade. A bed with storage really is a must in a small bedroom! Here is my ideal bedroom wishlist!

I found this gorgeous Sullivan Storage bed from John Lewis, just look at the drawers!    This is exactly what I need!

NOTD! Lime Crime and Lush Lacquer

Posted on May 13, 2013

I haven’t painted my nails for ages, so thought it was about time I tried my Lime Crime polishes I bought a while ago. They are literally my perfect colours, neon pastels! I have a few of them but the ones I used today are ‘Pastelchio’ (green) and ‘Parfait Day’ (pink) I then thought I’d jazz up the green nails with Lush Lacquer’s ‘Clowning Around’. Unfortunately the vividness of the colours does not come out very well on my pictures, I’ve added one taken with the flash at the end which gives a better idea of the brightness.

The only thing I would say about the Lime Crime polishes is the consistency is pretty thick and not really ideal for working with, I’ve read this is due to the high pigmentation. I really love the colours though so I think this is a small price to pay!
