How Sugar Damages Your Skin…

Posted on November 30, 2013

Hi Guys!

Tonight I have a rather interesting infographic to share with you, all about SUGAR and how it affects your skin. I’ve never really thought of sugar affecting my skin as such, definitely my teeth and my weight, but not my skin! I’m also pretty sure I have some sort of sugar addiction – I have sweet treats every day, which I know is bad for me, but I can’t seem to stop myself! So now I can learn how it’s affecting my body as well as my appearance –

Ok so would I actually be able to quit eating sugar? I very much doubt that, but I know I need to cut down drastically. I’ve put a lot of weight on in the last few months as well as having particularly dull skin and being tired all the time, I think my sugar intake is probably at least partly to blame for all this. This infographic is definitely food for thought! What do you think?

ESPA Optimal Skin ProSerum Review

Posted on

Hey Guys!

Todays post is a review of ESPA’s new Optimal Skin ProSerum!

Firstly, I should probably explain, I’m brand new to ESPA (I know, yes I probably have been living under a rock for my entire life) I’ve just never got round to trying their products out – so when I saw the chance to trial this ProSerum sample, I nabbed it up!

espa proserum

So what is ProSerum? ProSerum is a face treatment combining a ‘super serum containing potent actives to feed the skin, with a face treatment oil that includes powerful essential oils, to help strengthen the skin on a cellular level’

Ok so it sounds pretty good! I’ve always been a fan of serums and oils, and this product combines the two so that’s got to be a bonus!. The product is supposed to strengthen skin, promote healthy, youthful, radiant looking skin, and offer instant, as well as long term results. What’s not to like!?

My trial came in a generously sized 8ml glass bottle, with a mini pipette for easy application. I’m about half way through the bottle now, it’s definitely going to last a long time!

The key ingredients and benefits include –

  • Tumeric – to enhance skin radiance, brighten and even skin tone.
  • Rose Hip and Echium Oil – to promote healthy and beautiful looking skin.
  • White Lupin – to powerfully increase elasticity and skin firmness.
  • Kalpariane Seaweed Extract – to lock in vital moisture.
  • Sunflower Seed – to actively strengthen skin and protect.
  • Vitamin E and Evening Primrose Oil – to protect and regenerate skin cells.
  • Balloon Plant – to lovingly calm and comfort.
  • Rose and Patchouli essential Oils – to gently soothe and balance.

So what did I think? After using this product for a couple of weeks – mostly before bed – I’m definitely in love! You just press a few drops onto cleansed skin every day and Bob’s your uncle! My skin feels instantly softer and more supple, and I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my skin’s appearance since I’ve been using this. I guess the best way I can describe it is my skin just feels a bit more healthy, a bit brighter, and less dry and dull. The product also has a lovely scent due to the essential oils 🙂

Have you tried this product? I’d love to hear what you thought if you have! Do you love any other ESPA products? I’m interested in trying some more so please let me know your recommendations!

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

Neoprene Warehouse Premium Floral Dress OOTD!

Posted on November 28, 2013

Hi Guys!

Today’s outfit is this gorgeous premium floral print dress from Warehouse! The dress is made of neoprene – if you haven’t heard of this you may recognise the term ‘scuba’ dress. It’s called this as the material is the same used for a scuba diver’s wet suit!

I love scuba dresses! Neoprene a thick material which holds its structure and shape which means the fabric falls well and is very flattering. Even though this is a floral dress I think it’s great for winter as the material is thick – I’ll also be pairing this dress with thick black tights on nights out!

The Best Lip Balm Money Can Buy! (and it’s not actually a lip balm)

Posted on November 25, 2013

Hi Guys!

As we all know, ’tis the season to have dry skin – and cracked lips. Unfortunately this is a problem for me all year round which just gets worse as the weather gets colder. So I’m constantly on the hunt for the perfect lip balm. I’ve tried so many, but often found the more expensive ones were no better than the cheap high street ones. The most I’ve paid is about £12 / £13 and it was exactly the same as a bog standard chapstick from Boots! I have since discovered and recently tried Dr Lipp which is absolutely fantastic and big favourite among many people, but is on the expensive side. If you haven’t heard of Dr Lipp’s Original Nipple Balm for Lips here is a bit more info –

Dr.Lipp has become a global cult beauty staple for leaving lips smooth and soft with a glossy sheen. An extremely versatile healing and nourishing balm that was originally developed as a nipple balm for breastfeeding women because of its ultra hydrating & hypoallergenic multipurpose properties, Dr.Lipp has many benefits both medical and for beauty and is ideal for dry cuticles, dry skin patches, burns and abrasions, severely chapped lips, sore nipples, split ends, eczema, babies’ bottoms, and much much more.

Dr.Lipp is 100% pure and natural, hyper allergenic, tasteless and odourless, contains no parabens, or fragrance and is approved by Ecocert France.  Made from 100% ultra pure medical grade Lanolin. Harvested during the summer from natural Sheep’s wool and cleansed of all impurities to make our ultra pure ‘Queen’ of Lanolin.

  • Proven to help reduce skin roughness by 40% in one hour.
  • Considered by dermatologists and scientists to be one of the safest ways to care for your sin as the Lanolin lipids (oils) are so similar to your skin’s natural oils that they easily penetrate & absorb deeply into your skin.
  • Accelerates the repair of the skin’s natural barrier functions.

Beauty Uses:

  • Use as a long lasting lip-gloss
  • Prep dry skin before applying foundation for a more even look.
  • Cheek shine
  • Eye gloss for a dewy look
  • Shaping eyebrows
  • Lip primer to help prevent blotching
  • As a mixer for pigments
  • Perfect for ‘glitter lips’, ‘eye glitter’ & diamantes
  • For keeping victory rolls in place
  • As an assistant to help keep tassels in place
  • To ease chafing from sequins and spiky costumes
  • As a quick-grab healer for when you cut yourself on corset hooks
  • Last minute shoe polish!

Medical  Uses:

  • Helps soothe and soften chapped lips
  • Help prevent dry cuticles
  • Helps soothe dry skin patches
  • Helps reduce fine lines under the eyes
  • Helps moisturise & nourish split ends
  • Helps nourish eye lashed
  • As a healer for nipple tape rash
  • Helps with small cuts, burns and abrasions
  • Bacteriostatic
  • Helps sore noses from blowing
  • Helps soothe Nappy rash
  • Helps with itchy skin and eczema
  • Helps soothe sore nipples from breastfeeding

Dr.Lipp is made from  100% medical grade Lanolin. It is 100% natural and contains no alcohol, no parabens, no colouring agents and no perfume. 100% Pure. 100% Natural. Tasteless & Odourless.

dr lipp review

So it’s basically a magic miracle product with a zillion and one uses! This brought me on to the idea of using nipple cream for sore lips, and reminded me of when I’d just had my son I used a purple tubed nipple cream which was fantastic. I remembered the midwife telling me it made a great lip balm too. So I went and dug it out of the cupboard to give it a go – that product was Lasinoh HPA Lanolin. Here is a bit more info about it –

Lansinoh HPA® Lanolin is the safest, purest nipple cream and completely hypoallergenic. It has been specially developed to help soothe and protect sore, cracked nipples in breastfeeding mothers.100% Lansinoh HPA® Lanolin – the world’s purest Lanolin Nipple Cream.

  • No need to remove before breastfeeding.
  • Paraben free.
  • 100% natural.
  • No additives, preservatives or chemicals.
  • No taste, colour or smell – the most acceptable nipple cream for your breastfed baby.

lasinoh review for lips

Lasinoh is promoted solely as a nipple balm, but if you look at the ingredients Dr Lipp and Lasinoh are both made of 100% lanolin. In essence they are the same product! I’ll now just compare the product size and price for you…

Dr Lipp 15ml tube is £11.40 from Space NK, Lookfantastic and BeautyBay (mine is a 3ml sample pictured)

Lasinoh HPA Lanolin 40ml tube is £6.66 from Amazon or £9.99 from Boots (mine is a 56ml pictured)

Yes a 40ml tube is a bit of a beast to be lugging around but hey you get over 2 and a half times more product than Dr Lipp for a much cheaper price! My Lasinoh tube will last for absolutely ages but I know this is the one I’ll definitely be repurchasing again when it does run out! If you’re looking for an amazing lip balm this winter I’d definitely recommend you give Lasinoh a go!

I hope you enjoyed my post and found it useful 🙂 xx
