Interior Design Ideas: A Retro Paradise!

Posted on January 31, 2014

Hi Guys!

Those of you who saw my previous home wares post will know that I am thinking of (hopefully) updating my home. Having recently found some amazing pieces of retro-modernist furniture, I’m now tempted to go all out and turn my entire home into a retro paradise! 🙂

I’ve been researching different ways of doing this and have discovered some really helpful websites, blogs and articles. I’ve also thrown in some stunning decorative pieces that I thought I would share in case any of you are thinking of doing something similar!

First off, I came across these amazing wall pieces from Fabrics & Papers that would be brilliant with my retro-modernist theme. I realised that it’s no good filling my home with cool furniture if the walls look dull. These are my top picks:

Fish Wish Wall Paper

The same website also has some beautiful wallpapers that could really transform any space. I love feature walls that really stand out and they have such a huge selection, here are a couple of my favourites:

Cosmo Wallpaper and Pinboard Wallpaper

I’ve always loved the growing retro trend, which I hope will continue to thrive this year. I don’t think vintage and retro will ever go back out of fashion. Interior designers are using colours and shapes to create the retro feel more and more, and I can’t wait to play ‘interior designer’ myself with this lot! I am especially a fan of anything daring – I love vibrant colours and loud patterns!

I’d love to hear your thoughts, which is your favourite wall piece?

Rescue Your Damaged Hair!

Posted on

Hi Guys!

If you follow me on Twitter you may have seen a few weeks ago I was getting really excited about a new ‘drastic’ haircut I was about to have. My hair had been falling out for a while due to stress and has only recently stopped, so I wanted a good cut to help it look less of a state while it starts to grow back again. I actually only went for a (very safe) short bob, which was scary enough as I’ve never had my hair that short before! The hairdresser advised me I need to take good care of my hair, especially as it’s quite thin and weak on top. She said not to dye it or straighten it if possible too. So with this in mind I’ve been looking on the internet for some hair products that will help my frail and damaged locks – I found Oldrids have a large range of haircare products, and some of them sound perfect for me!

  1. Dead Sea Scalp Mud Conditioner £9.75
  2. Philip Kingsley Stimulating Scalp Mask £5.25
  3. Dead Sea Hair Magic Serum £17.50
  4. Wella Anti Hair Loss Serum £12.25
  5. Philip Kingsley Elasticizer £27.50
  6. Organix Brazillin Keratin Therapy Anti Breakage Serum £7

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any of these products? and what products and treatments you use for damaged hair? xxx

Kevyn Aucoyn The Iconic Eye Set Review & Swatches

Posted on January 30, 2014

Hi Guys!

Here is the next review from my Boots & Space NK Hauls – The Kevyn Aucoin The Iconic Eye Set. The Set includes a five pan palette, eyeliner pencil and brush.

I purchased the palette on sale at Space NK for £24, which was half the original price of £48. I have to say I wouldn’t have bought it for £48 as this is way out of my price range.

The packaging is very luxurious as expected. The products arrived wrapped in tissue paper inside their own zippered mini cosmetics bag, with a cardboard outer.

So first up, the Eye Pencil Primatif in Basic Black. To be honest this doesn’t look to be anything special, just a standard black pencil…

…but when I swatched it on my hand, it was the creamiest blackest black I’ve ever seen! I was really surprised with how intense the colour was. For a pencil that appears so unassuming, it was definitely shocked. To compare this with one of my all time favourite eyeliners – Urban Decay Zero, I would say the pigmentation is on a par, but the Kevyn Aucoin pencil has a slightly firmer formula, which at first I wasn’t overly keen on but quickly I realised this creates for finer, more precise lines.

Next up is The Travel Eye Shadow Slant Brush. As a brush this is great, the hairs are soft and fine and easily manipulated. Personally this brush is a bit too small for me, the head being about 5mm across. I prefer a chunkier brush really.

And finally the Iconic Eyes Palette. This palette is simply gorgeous, it’s full of easy to wear shades to suit all skin tones.

Pans clockwise from top left – The Celestial Powder in Candlelight, The Sculpting Powder in Medium, The Shimmer Shadow in Rose Quartz, The Matte Shadow in Light Bone #101 and Taupey Gray #505.

To me these colours are just perfect, it’s everything you need for a day to day look, which you can intensify for the evening.

So what did I think of this kit? I absolutely love the Eye Pencil, I’m so glad I’ve discovered this! The Iconic Eyes Palette is also gorgeous, only let down by the fact that there are two ‘cheap’ eyeshadow applicators. I personally really dislike these sponge applicators and think it cheapens the palette. I would rather have had larger pans or extra pans in that space, this is just my own opinion. Nevertheless it is a lovely every day palette and I think I’ll get a lot of use out of it!

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried Kevyn Aucoin products?

Lime Crime Pink Velvet Velvetine Lip Stain Review & Swatches

Posted on January 29, 2014

Hi Guys!

Today I’ll be reviewing Lime Crime Velvetine Lip Stain in Pink Velvet. When Red Velvet (classic red) and Suedeberry (a bright orange red) were released a while ago I really wanted to try them out but never actually got round to buying them. As soon as I saw Pink Velvet was released I jumped on it!

lime-crime-velvetine

The Velvetines range intrigued me as they appear to be a lip stain, but have a matte finish on application and like all Lime Crime products they’re really well pigmented. I’m a sucker for mattes so thought these sounded too good to be true!

The product really looks like a normal stain or gloss – though intensely pigmented on the applicator.

You can see the impressive depth of colour on the back of my hand, and the way it feathers into the lines in my skin shows it’s definitely a stain rather than a gloss, and you can see where it’s started to dry to a matte finish. This stuff does definitely stain, I had a pink mark on my hand and pink lips for a while after removing! I didn’t mind though 🙂

I’m afraid my picture doesn’t really show the brightness of this product, it is SO bright and pigmented, and it really is a dream to apply, I love it! Velvetine is the perfect description as it dries to a lovely matte, almost velvety finish. You will want to make sure you’re lips are nice and soft before applying though as this is a matte it can be drying to the lips. Overall I love this stain, I’m so pleased I bought it. I’m really looking forward to trying out the new colours released in March too! There will be Wicked (deep red) Black Velvet (black) and Salem (deep brown / red)

Where Do You Blog From?

Posted on January 28, 2014

Hi Guys!

Last week the lovely peeps at Viking Direct offered to send me some handy stationery bits, so I thought this would be the optimum time to sort out my dressing table / desk and get it nice and tidy ready for some serious blogging! Up until now I’ve been writing whilst lounging on the sofa, which isn’t always very productive as there’s lots of distractions around. My plan has been for a long time to move my shizzle into the spare room, but the spare room has always been full of my junk important things, so I finally decided to pull my finger out and spent the day tidying everything up!

desk

Voila! So here I have my snazzy new MacBook (which is awesome by the way) sitting on my white gloss dressing table slash desk. I’ve put some stationary bits like pens and paperclips in with my makeup brushes so they’re nice and handy. Oh and I really have a thing about highlighter pens so I was very excited when I saw they were in the box! (I’m a loser, I’m okay with it)

The only things more exciting than the highlighters was a big bag of Cadburys mini chocs, which I’ve half scoffed already, and put the other half in a pretty glass jar, with the intention that I will ‘treat’ myself occasionally yeah right, and a mahoosive tub of Cadburys hot chocolate, that should last me a while at least!

DSC03821

Oh and also I have the biggest box of rubber bands known to man! 500g in fact! I think these will come in handy for making a rubber band ball when I’m procrastinating! 🙂

So yeah I’m really pleased I’ve properly sorted out my blogging space at last! Hopefully this will help me be more productive rather than blogging in front of the TV! I’d love to see where you blog from?

Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo Review & Swatches

Posted on January 26, 2014

Hi Guys!

Here’s another one of the items from my recent Boots & Space NK Hauls – an Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo in Nude number 6.

hourglass box

I’ve been wanting to try Hourglass cosmetics for a while now, but they are pretty expensive, £22 for a lip crayon is definitlely a treat for me! I was on the Space NK site so thought I might as well!

The Lip Stylo comes in brown metallic casing, it definitely feels luxurious. The product is described as ‘A seductive collection of nude lip crayons delivering a creamy, full-coverage formula and satin finish. Enclosed in a luxurious retractable stylo, Femme Nude enhances the natural sensuality of your lips by adding fullness, dimension and balance. With six shades to choose from there’s a nude for every mood.’

hourglass lip stylo review

The colour I went for was  number 6, it’s a lovely natural nude pinky beige.

Now I’m not going to lie, I did have high expectations for this product, as you do when you purchase something for a lot of money, you assume you must be getting a good quality product. Well I wasn’t disappointed, but on the other hand I wasn’t amazed either. The Stylo was creamy and smooth on application, it had what I would describe as a more of semi matte finish than satin. I love mattes though so this is a plus point! It wasn’t drying and was very comfortable on my lips. I think if this was around a £10 – £15 price point I’d be raving about it as I do really like the product, but at £22 it was a nice treat, not an every day product though simply due to the price.

I hope you enjoyed my review xxx
