OOTD Featuring Slinkylinks Jewellery

Posted on February 28, 2014

Hi Guys!

I realised I’ve been doing a fair few review posts lately, and it’s been quite a while since I’ve done an OOTD post, so I thought I’d show you what I’m wearing today! Rather than dressing up so to speak, this look is a general day to day outfit (with a bit more makeup for photography purposes!) It’s a casual look I’d wear to work or just for popping out to the shops in 🙂

My cardi is from ASOS, I love it and wear it all the time as it’s big and baggy and comfortable. My vest is from H&M – I own zillions of these in different colours, they’re just so easy to throw on and go with anything, and my awesome new necklace is from SlinkyLinks Jewellery.

Sorry for the grumpy face, ha ha!

slinkylinks 3_edited-1

How cool is this necklace? (I’m wearing the Loop Statement Necklace made in black reclaimed patent leather) I love it because it’s definitely a statement piece, yet it’s classic and can be worn with so many different looks. All jewellery at Slinkylinks is handmade from reclaimed lather, so it’s great for the environment, and I love the thought that somebody has sat down and taken time and effort to plan the design and create each piece of jewellery personally with their own hands. The necklace has a handmade touch whilst being of professional quality and finish.

Another one of my favourites from the SlinkyLinks Etsy store are these super cute fox brooches 🙂 I wish I had the creativity / time / knowhow to create things like this!!

If you like the look of this fab jewellery, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for a a new giveaway coming up next month!

Hope you have a great Friday! xxx

Eye of Horus Lazuli Blue Eye Pencil Review

Posted on February 27, 2014

Hi Guys!

I hope you’re all well!? Today’s post is on the Lazuli Blue Goddess Pencil by Eye of Horus. If you saw my previous Eye of Horus reviews of the Emerald Eye Pencil and Nubian Brown Eye Pencil, you’ll know I’m a big fan of their products!

eye of horus review

The Lazuli Blue eye pencil is one of the newest additions to their eye makeup range. Eye of Horus pencils boast a long list of plus points – they are waterproof, smudge proof, paraben free, made with natural ingredients and not tested on animals. And one of the best bits… you can remove this eyeliner simply with a cloth and warm water!

How pretty is this colour! I find it’s not quite dark enough for me to wear on my eyelid above my upper lashes – I always wear eyeliner on the top lid with a flick – so I use this in my waterline instead. This pencil, just like the others I’ve tried is fabulous to use, it glides on easily as the wax in the ingredients softens when it touches your skin.

You may have seen the above image before in my Lime Crime Eyeliner post, I thought I’d share it again here as I’m wearing the Eye of Horus Lazuli Eyeliner in my waterline 🙂

Have you tried any Eye of Horus products? I’d love to hear if you have!

I hope you enjoyed my review xxx

I Think I’m Getting Old…

Posted on February 26, 2014

Hi Guys!

As you may or may not know, my ‘Big Birthday’ is gradually looming closer and closer – I’ll be the big 3-0 in June, eeeek! Where the heck has my life gone!? As well as writing this post about my best friend (check us out dancing the night away above) and reminiscing about our reckless days of old, it’s come to my attention that I simply can’t hack nights out any more! I went out with my friends the other week, and had three drinks *three* single shot drinks, and woke up with a banging skull ache the next day! I mean WTF!?

This has got me thinking, am I getting old?? I don’t feel old, I don’t think…

I used to love nothing more than a Thursday night on the town – it was student night so drinks were cheap, we would get home at 4am and I’d be at work in the morning by 8. Then back on it again Friday and Saturday nights too. Urrgh this sounds like my idea of hell now! I just can’t be bothered with it any more! I actually love nothing more than a Friday or Saturday night in, with a big posh pizza, snacks and a DVD, it’s my idea of heaven now! Does this mean I’m an old fogey though??

Well, it appears even real life proper surveys agree with me! It turns out nearly 70% of women prefer a girls night in (according to a survey by Ladbrokes Bingo) Would you believe it! Apparently 60% said long queues at bars were the most annoying thing, and the same percentage said they’d prefer a night in just because it’s cheaper – this doesn’t surprise me!

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not a complete hermit, I do love going out with the girls for a couple of bevs, but maybe not every weekend any more!

What do you think, do you prefer a night out or a night in? I think I might just arrange a girls night in… followed by a night out 🙂 xxx

Guest Post – My Favourite Foundations

Posted on

foundation comparison

I try a lot of drug store foundations as it is truly really hard to find ones that you stick to for a while. I love to try out new foundations all the time but find myself really confused to which one is truly a good fit for my skin tone. Last year I decided to stick to ones that I knew worked and that was the Rimmel wake me up foundation, due to wanting to experiment with more eye shadows and other products. I absolutely loved this foundation all last year and it was my go to foundation for nights out and day looks, It does give your skin a bit of a glow but I tend to use it more in the Spring / Summer. Since finding Match Perfection and Photo ready I have been using them more this year, they give my skin more coverage and less sparkle, which is what I want due to wearing a lot of eye make up. This is my own preference because the wake me up gives a lovely glow and coverage too, I just have fallen in love with Revlon photo ready due to the perfect coverage and it gives my skin a really natural look. I am not keen on the foundation sparkling in the winter so that was why I decided to try some more foundations out.

I have all four in my make up draw due to being able to wear Wake me up in the Summer and the others for night and day wear. My all time favourite has to be Photo ready with Match Perfection close behind it. I also tried out the Seventeen foundation due to it being on offer at Boots last year and it has surprised me. It does what it says and it clears up your skin within a couple weeks, I use this as a little concealer in a way when my skin is really bad. I honestly believe that it clears the skin. I probably should not be wearing the Seventeen one under another layer of foundation but for coverage when I have bad skin it works perfectly without looking really layered on.

All four of them are great coverage and work really well all year round for me. I am loving them so much and after trying out so many foundations I do feel these have come up top of them all. I buy all my foundations in Ivory as i want them to not be too dark, then I put bronzer on top of them. I love having a foundation that really covers all the problem areas on my skin. They all apply really well and look perfect once set with powder. I recommend the Seventeen foundation for school as it gives you natural coverage and it helps to clear skin.

Which foundations do you recommend?

Thanks so much for your post Abi! xxx

Look Inside Yourself, Not Your Handbag

Posted on February 25, 2014

Hi Guys!

Today’s post is all about one of my favourite things, handbags!! YAY! It’s in collaboration with Hayley Miller, an amazing handbag and accessories designer. Inspired by the popular ‘What’s Inside My Handbag?’ blog tag, Hayley wants to explore why handbags are so important to us – Could we live without them? Can we have too many?? (…erm no and no!)

Hayley asked us to start by writing all about our favourite bags…

So my favourite bag in the whole wide world is my Balenciaga Giant 21 Gold Velo. I originally bought this bag a couple of years ago from Ebay, I’ve been lusting after so many designer bags for many years and a Balenciaga, Dior or Mulberry Alexa have always been top of my wish list. When I spotted this Balenciaga Velo for a ridiculously cheap £300 on ebay (it’s £1254 new) I quickly snapped it up! It is 100% authentic, but please be careful when buying second hand designer goods as there are so many fakes out there.

The Giant 21 Gold Velo literally means it has ‘giant’ style studs, and gold plated metal hardware all over the bag, and is in the ‘Velo’ style. This bag isn’t made any more so I feel kind of special that I have one! It’s made of the most gorgeous soft lambskin leather, which makes it really soft and slouchy. There are a couple of down sides though, because the leather is so soft I worry about damaging it, I have also lost the mirror which was originally attached to it 🙁

This bag is the perfect size for me, I like a fairly roomy bag as I carry lots of junk important things around with me, like a bulky fiolfax and massive purse! This bag has spent a looong time packed away in my wardrobe, simply because I was too scared to use it for fear of damaging or marking it. Then one day I just thought, what’s the point in having nice things if they’re hidden away? This bag was made to be used, it is a functional object! So I took it out and have been using it ever since. I now use this as a bag for weekends and going out, rather than taking to to work every day.

I have to say I absolutely love this bag, it just makes me feel fabulous! 🙂

Accessories, in general I think can make or break an outfit, and can also change your mood. As soon as I throw my bag on my arm I feel great, I feel smart and I feel confident! I’m not a complete handbag fiend by the way, I only have 3 or 4 day bags, and a few evening ones (including a vintage Wham! wash bag turned clutch, oh yes!) I know some people have hundreds… actually I probably would too if I could afford it!

Whilst writing this post I’ve been thinking… What’s so special about handbags? Why do girls go weak at the knees over them, and are prepared to sacrifice savings / rent / food money just to carry a certain piece of leather on their arm?

Well, I think I’ve figured it out. Handbags fall into the same category as jewellery in my little world. Handbags do not make you feel fat / uncomfortable / self conscious (like wearing certain clothes might) they do not accentuate your wobbly bits, they will not pop a button and expose your heaving bosom, nor will they strain and refuse to be pulled up over your thighs, leaving you sobbing silently into your pillow, and they will not make you feel uncomfortable in your own skin. I think what I’m trying to say is choosing and wearing clothes is a minefield for anybody that’s even remotely body conscious, which is probably most of us in one way or other, but with handbags the only negative really can be the price!!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this and if you have a favourite bag?

There should be quite a few other bloggers joining in this project so If you want to read about everybody else’s bags you can search #LookOutsideTheBag on Twitter!

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

Wantable February Makeup Box Review

Posted on February 24, 2014

Hi Guys!

I’m really excited to tell you about my first Wantable Makeup Box! I tried the Accessories Box last month which was awesome, so I thought this month I’d check out their Makeup Box and I wasn’t disappointed!

february wantable box

It’s so nice to be greeted with ‘Hello, Beautiful’ when I open the box!

wantable makeup box

Inside was a great range of full sized makeup items, on first glance I was really impressed!

wantable makeup box review

How gorgeous is this lot! I have a blush & bronzer duo, a teal eyeliner pen, brown eyeshadow, clear eyelash treatment and a pink lip crayon.

sorme blush bronzer

So first up we have the Sorme Mineral Botanicals Blush / Bronzer Duo in Sunshine ($28.00)

‘This luxurious, 70% natural duo gives you fresh, summery radiance with healthy, natural minerals, vitamin C and E, plus antioxidant pomegranate and rooibos extracts help treat your skin and defend against ageing free radicals’

mineral botanicals blush duo

Good points – I’m not keen on shimmer finishes for blush or bronzer so I’m glad these are matte. The powder is fine and easily blendable.

Not so good points – Only that I would have preferred the pans to be a bit larger.

blush bronzer

This is what it looks like on. I’m actually really impressed with the colours! My fair skin tone means blush and bronzer can be a bit of a minefield, but these colours looked really natural and you can easily build them up if you want to.

with a wink eyeshadow skinny latte

Next up is th PI_ Beauty With a Wink Eyeshadow in Skinny Latte ($18.00)

‘These eyeshadows come in several beautiful shades rich in pigment ranging from soft naturals to velvety shimmers to eye-popping fashion colours’

best brown eyeshadow

Good points – I swatched this by sticking my finger in it (I love sticking my fingers in makeup, does anybody else do that?) and I was instantly surprised by how velvety soft the texture was. The depth of colour is fantastic and it’s easily blendable. One of the best eyeshadows I’ve tried.

Not so good points – None.

golden rose lash vitamin

Golden Rose Perfect Lash Vitamin Transparent ($10.99)

‘This nourishing formula gives your lashes a natural look and brightness. It nourishes and protects the lashes with vitamins A and E and provitamin B5.’

Good points – I’ve never tried a lash treatment before, so I’m glad this was in the box as it’s not something I would normally buy.

Not so good points – There are tiny little coloured balls in the tube, which look pretty but but I wasn’t sure how they would look on my lashes! They didn’t seem to come off the brush though so there wasn’t a problem.

laqa fat lip pencil wolfman

LAQA & Co Fat Lip Pencil in Wolfman ($18.00)

‘Ditch the lip balm, liner and gloss, with this all in one Fat Lip Pencil. The smooth, utter texture coats lips in stunning glossy colour and comes in a handy jumbo pencil that needs no sharpener.’

lip pencil review

Good points – Pretty, subtle colour. Minty scent and smooth texture.

Not so good points – None.

be a bombshell teal eyeliner

Be A Bombshell Eyeliner in Teal ($14.00)

‘Our long lasting water resistant formula lasts from AM to PM. Use like a marker, drawing with the tip closest to your lash line for precise definition.’

best green eyeliner

Good points – The colour is amazing!! It’s a true brigt teal, and you can build up the colour just like a felt tip pen on paper. The nib of the pen has a fine tip so you can draw a very thin line if you want to. I wore this for a whole day and evening without any smudging.

Not so good points – I would have preferred if the tip was a bit more flexible, otherwise a really great product.

teal eyeliner

I’m wearing the eyeliner and eyeshadow on the above pic 🙂

Overall I’m really happy with my box, the value totalling $88.99 (£53.47) and the box costs $36.00 (£21.63) One of the most exciting things about the Wantable makeup box for me is because they are based in the US, I haven’t heard of any of these brands before, so I really didn’t know what to expect, it was a compelete surprise!

You can check out and sign up to Wantable here. If you’d like to see my previous accessories box and read all about how Wantable works you can check out my post here xxx

Guest Post – Beauty Tips & Tricks!

Posted on February 21, 2014

Hey guys!

It’s Caitlin here from over at Blogging Through The Mirror and today im guest posting for the lovely Michelle! I’m so honored she chose me to guest post for her, her blog is really beautiful and filled with everything a girl could ever want!

Today I’m going to share with you all my beauty tips and tricks that ive got up my sleeve to inspire you to try them out! Keep reading to find them out..ENJOY! 🙂

  1. Run out of your concealers? Don’t worry go to the kitchen grab yourself a potato, cut it in half and rub lightly on your puffy eyes. Strange i know but you’ll thank me for it later!
  2. If you wake up with a massive zit attached to your face (admit it it’s happened to you!) Apply toothpaste on it for 20 minutes and the spot will be almost invisible!
  3. NEVER, never ever pump your mascara. All you’re doing is forcing air into it and drying out your mascara!
  4. If you run out of nail polish remover and you’re stuck with horrible chipped nail polish don’t fear hairspray must be near! – c’mon your a girl you’re more than likely to have hairspray! Apply it to a cotton pad and wipe away your nail polish.
  5. Want whiter teeth? Mix baking soda and lemon juice into a paste and brush your teeth. Most disgusting thing in the world to taste but does wonders for your teeth. Do this once a week but no more or you can damage your teeth!
  6. Heat your eyelash curlers for a couple of seconds using your hair dryer to intensify your eye look and get bigger lashes. Test the heat on your hands first!
  7. Balance out your shimmer – if your doing a shimmery eye opt for a nude lip
  8. Did you know reds have different undertones to suit different skin tones? I DIDN’T! You can get blue tones for cool skin. There are warmer and cooler tone reds so make sure you test them before you buy them!
  9. Naturally oily hair? Avoid conditioning the roots it will retain oils from the conditioner. Pay more attention to the middle and the ends.
  10. No eyelid primer? I often use concealer it gets the job done if you have no primer on hand!
  11. I get my roots through really quickly but if I want to try to wait before coloring my hair, I hide the roots by going for a zig zag parting.

So there is my post all about my beauty tricks! I hope you have fun trying them out, let me know if they work!

Thanks so much Caitlin, I’ll be seeing if the hairspray one works tonight! xxx
