If you’re mad about makeup like I am, you’ll probably have heard of Eve Lom’s new Complexion range that has recently been launched at Space NK. It always excites me when a well established luxury brand brings out a makeup range! I haven’t been fortunate enough to try any of Eve Lom’s skincare products as yet though, but I’ve heard they are fabulous! When I saw the new Complexion range for sale, I thought it would be crazy not to try something out!
How gorgeous do these products look!?
I’m having a few issues finding a good foundation at the moment. My go-to has been Chanel Vitalumiere for a few years now, and last year I also discovered Dior Hydra Life BB Cream which I love. My last bottle of Vitalumiere has pretty much ran out and I’ve been looking to replace it with a cheaper alternative. My latest purchase which was Bourjois Happy Light Foundation didn’t turn out so well – proving that you should ALWAYS try out a foundation on your skin before purchasing! So I’ve been on the hunt again for a new foundation. Eve Lom’s Radiance Lift Foundation really caught my eye – it’s a high end brand, check, looks pretty, check, is crazy expensive, check, so it must be an amazing product, right??
Firstly, here’s a bit more info about the product-
Advanced actively. Anti-ageing foundation that treats your skin to a long lasting weightless veil of silky, hydrating comfort. Feather-light feel with great cover that blends effortlessly for a flawless finish, with pores, fine lines and imperfections instantly minimised. Potent plant extracts plus Rose Flower Wax and Vitamins C and E help lift, firm and repair at the lowest levels, elasticity is restored and skin is kept deep-down hydrated. Meanwhile, SPF15 protects and luminosity-boosting agents brighten, so you achieve a smooth, even complexion that’s illuminated with supple, youthful radiance.
• Perfects and illuminates with full, weightless coverage and flawless matte finish
• Pores, fine lines and imperfections are instantly minimised
• Helps lift, firm and repair for youthful plumpness and elasticity
• Long-lasting, deep-down hydration
• UVA/UVB and antioxidant protection
• Actively beneficial for all skin types.
• Moisturising BerryFlux Vita™ is a patented, super-potent stem cell extract, stimulating hyaluronic acid to deliver hydration and lock it in to the skin’s lowest levels. Rich in antioxidants, it also encourages proteins and ceramides to strengthen the skin’s natural barrier, and helps preserve collagen and elastin for suppleness and tone.
• Lifting Para Cress Flower Extract helps replenish the dermis structure to smooth, lift and improve the skin’s density.
This all sounds rather fantastic, long lasting hydration, lifts, firms, repairs, minimises imperfections… what more does a girl need?
The packaging and casing are gorgeous; the bottle has a matte effect finish with a shiny gold pump.
The formula feels good when swatched on the back of my hand, it’s a great density and blends easily. Alabaster is the lightest colour in the range, and it’s about right in terms of lightness but is slightly on the yellow side for my skin tone. (Ok I didn’t actually try this before purchasing because I don’t live near a Space NK…)
And this is what it looks like on…
It didn’t look good AT ALL. I would probably go so far as to say this is the worst foundation I have ever used. I actually didn’t want to put this last picture up because it looks so bad, but thought I should really as it is a true depiction of what the foundation looked like on my skin. All the above pictures are taken one after another in different lights so you can see that I’m not exaggerating when I say how bad it looked.
Ok so let me start from the beginning – obviouslyI have dry skin, there’s nothing I can do about it except try to look after my skin by keeping it exfoliated and moisturised. I proceeded with my usual skincare routine before using the foundation – I moisturised straight before application and did not use a primer. I know my skin isn’t amazing but surely a £50 foundation ‘for all skin types’ shouldn’t look like this??
Just for comparison, I took the above picture the next day wearing my Dior Hydra Life BB Cream, and I did nothing different to my skin before hand. You can really tell the difference!
So that’s it I guess, unfortunately this product just didn’t agree with me. To say I’m disappointed would be an understatement. Interestingly I took a look at the customer reviews on the Space NK site and currently they all have 5 stars, except one, one customer has given this foundation only one star, because she has dry skin and said it ‘looked patchy and did not cover well’. I should have really read these reviews before purchasing! The other four reviews on the site all give it 5 stars, so maybe this is a fantastic foundation if you have oily skin…? I’d love to hear if you’ve tried this foundation? Or anything from the Eve Lom Complexion range?
I hope you found my review useful xxx
