Wantable July Makeup Box | Review

Posted on July 31, 2014

Hi Guys!

It’s time for another Wantable box! Seriously, it seems like a box turns up every couple of weeks, not every month, where is the time going to!? Anyway this box review is actually a little late, I’ve already received the dispatch email for my August box, I can’t keep up!! In this box I received an eyeshadow palette, highlighter, lipgloss and foundation brush, and on first glance I’m very happy! So let’s look at the products…

So first up is the Tarina Tarantino Jewel Shadow Palette in Fantastical ($32)

These amazing shades feature extremely pigmented shadows to blend easily and a beautiful color payoff that stays on all day and works for any skin tone! Their compact size makes them perfect for makeup looks on the go!

Colours include – Pearl Mauve, Beige Shimmer, Pearl Eggplant Purple, Pearl Lilac Purple, Pearl Vanilla

Good points – I love these colours! I think purples are always easy shades to wear whatever your eye colour, and the nude shimmers are gorgeous too. The shadows were easy to use and gave a fantastic pigmented finish. I’m really happy with this palette! I received a Tarina Taratino Blush Duo in a previous box that I wasn’t so impressed with so this was a pleasant surprise!

Not so good points – None!

Next up is the Three Custom Color Shimmer Cream in Afterglow ($22.50)

This is a beautiful cream highlighter with just a hint of light reflecting shimmer. The neutral colour is perfect for all skin tones to add a touch of radiant light wherever it’s applied.

Good points – I love the colour, it’s a light nude gold that would definitely look good on most skin tones. It has a very subtle finish that makes it really easy to wear, and has an almost powdery feel once applied.

Not so good points – None!

Next is the Eddie Funkhouser Hyperreal Hydrating Lip Gloss in Publicity Stunt (10.99)

This lip gloss is a lightweight, low-tack formula that provides a brilliant, colour rich multidimensional finish to lips. Vitamins A, C & E nourish and brighten and aloe vera moisturises and soothes.

Good points – Well if you know me you’ll know I’m a big fan of purple lip products, probably the biggest 🙂 The colour is gorgeous and as soon as I saw it I was excited! This gloss is a lovely plummy purple colour with a semi sheer finish, it’s not sticky and lasted a good few hours before I needed to reapply.

Not so good points – None!

And lastly th Vincent Longo #37 Foundation Brush ($30)

The generous size and narrow head of this synthetic brush allows for the smooth and even application of liquid foundation products.

Good points – I’ve received a Vincent Longo brush in one of my previous boxes so I knew the quality would be great, and it really is! The bristles are so soft, you know when you just have to run a brush over your face? That! 🙂

Not so good points – None!

Wow! So overall this box get’s top marks from me and also has a total value of $95.49! What a bargain for only costing $36! I’m so happy with these products, Wantable continues to impress me! I’ve also actually just updated my preferences on the site to include some different products, I’m not sure if this will take place from my next box of if it will be September’s so watch this space and you’ll see! 🙂 xxx

I Heart Makeup – I Am Naked Palette | Review

Posted on July 30, 2014

Hi Guys!

Today I’m reviewing the I Am Naked Palette (£5.99) from I Heart Makeup at Makeup Revolution.

The I Am Naked palette is one of four new palette sets, including I Am Sexy, I Am Powerful and I Am In Love. These theme sets include six eyeshadows and one lipstick in a handy compact palette. The idea being that this is a handy little kit for when you’re on the go!

This palette comes in the usual black gloss casing with an internal mirror. It has a double ended mini sponge applicator (not my fave really, I’d prefer a brush) and the lipstick clicks into a slot beside the eyeshadows.

The colours included in this palette are a great range of natural nude shades, in a mixture of matte and shimmer finishes. As expected due to previous experience the shimmers are fantastic and the mattes are not so great. If Makeup Rev could just sort out their matte shade formula then their eyeshadow sets would be completely amazing! (Hint hint!) Luckily four out of the six shadows have a shimmer finish, so overall I’m still happy! I think this is definitely a handy little kit to have – I love the gold and taupe shimmer colours!

The lipstick is a neutral beige shade, in a satin finish. It’s neither drying nor moisturising and lasted a couple of hours before I needed to reapply. This is a great every day shade!

So there we have it, another fab budget product from I Heart Makeup!

I hope you enjoyed my review, I’d love to hear what you think? xxx

Six Products for Glowing Skin This Summer!

Posted on July 29, 2014

Hi Guys!

It’s the summer! How do I know this? I’m currently sweating whilst not moving a muscle and just sitting in my car for 5 minutes makes my blood literally boil – I have no air con, arrrgh! Anyway I was saying, It’s the summer! Everyone wants to glow, we want to be tanned and look healthy and gorgeous and natural, and ideally like we’ve just stepped off the beach at St Tropez (beach body and all)! I thought I’d put together a post of all my favourite products to give you a gorgeous glow, whether it’s just to highlight, or a full body glow, check these little beauties out!

1. Benefit High Beam / Moon Beam. This is the perfect liquid highlighter for adding emphasis to any part of your face (or body for that matter) I like to dab a spot on my cheekbones, under my eyebrows, a thin line down my nose and a spot on my cupids bow, and blend. This has a lovely light sparkle and catches the light perfectly. I’ve always used High Beam, which is slightly pinkish, but if you have an olive complexion you should definitely try Moon Beam with has more of an apricot tone.

2. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. I’m so in love with this palette, it is on the pricey side at £56 but I have no regrets at all. You get three gorgeous shades to highlight, illuminate and make your skin look like it’s glowing from within. Seriously these powders are like magic! You know when someone just looks really well and healthy and you can’t quite put your finger on what it is? That’s what this palette does! Magic!!

3. Topshop Glow Highlighter in Gleam. This is a gorgeous rose gold cream highlighter with a high metallic finish. This highlighter is a lovely light cream formula that’s really well pigmented and easy to blend into the skin. If you’re a fan of cream products I’d definitely recommend this.

4. Bourjois Delice De Poudre Gold Bronzing Powder. This is a brand new addition to my makeup bag and I love it! This highlighting powder is a true gold colour with a high shimmer finish, match it perfectly with you Bourjois Delice De Poudre Bronzing Powder for all you need to highlight and contour like a pro!

5. Scott Barnes Body BlingThis is a handy little product for after you’ve tanned. If you want a bit of extra shimmer and dimension to your look after tanning, just rub this into your skin to add some sparkle, it’s perfect for a night out!

6. Laura Mercier Bronzing Gel. This is another new addition to my makeup bag which I bought this from Space NK in the recent sale. I’m glad I nabbed it up quick for £15.50, as it’s now gone back up to full price which is £26.00! Anyway I’m so glad I bought this, again I’d seen good reviews but never purchased due to the price. It really is worth it’s weight in gold though! This is basically a bronzing body gel, there is a pinkish tint to the gel-cream which creates a lovely warm tan colour, and it has a fine shimmer finish. You just cover your body in it wherever you want to be tanned and shimmery and you instantly turn into a bronzed goddess! (It also washes off too which is really handy.)

I’ve included some swatches below so you can see what the products look like compared to one another…

First is the powder products, I’ve added one picture in normal light and one in sunlight so you can see the sparkles!

And next up are the creams, gels and liquids –

So there you have it! I’d love to hear if you have any of these products? And what your favourite product is to glow this summer? xxx

My Favourite Prom Dress!

Posted on

View More:

Hi Guys!

Today New Look have asked me to talk about prom dresses! I didn’t even hesitate when they asked me, I love prom dresses! The last prom (we called it a ‘Leaving Do’) I attended was when I left sixth form, many years ago. Ok it was 12 years ago, eek! I couldn’t find any photos (phew!) but I remember I wore a floor length strapless fitted gown made of shimmery peach coloured taffeta. It was amazing – at the time! Hey it was 2002, don’t judge me! 😀

There weren’t and still aren’t many options for posh frocks where I live, the basic idea was you were expected to wear a full length gown, so I went to my local frock shop and I remember hating everything. When I saw the peach dress I thought it was ok, then I had a seamstress fit it properly for me and I loved it!

My latest prom dress experience was at my wedding last year. I had an amazing Justin Alexander wedding dress but was concerned about ruining it by either dropping food down it or ripping the train at the evening reception with everyone drinking and things getting a bit lary! So I hunted for what seemed like forever to find the perfect vintage prom dress. I looked everywhere I could find online, ebay, etsy, you name it. I was even looking at US sites and considering importing one. Then I just happened to be wandering round my local town and strolled into a shop I’d never been in before, it had a small selection of vintage clothes at the back, and there it was – the dress! It was an original 1950’s turquoise blue calf length prom dress, with a fitted body, circle skirt and sequinned netting. It was perfect, and obviously meant to be! I bought it straight away wore this for the evening party with a pair of ASOS holographic shoes to jazz it up a bit 🙂 I loved wearing this dress so much, it’s perfect for dancing in!

To celebrate how prom dresses, styles and looks have evolved over the decades. New Look have put together a mini interactive graphic…

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

I Heart Makeup NEW Palettes! Sin vs Passion | Review

Posted on July 27, 2014

Hi Guys!

Makeup Revolution have been at it again and have brought out a whole load of new products in their I Heart Makeup range! I have two new eyeshadow palettes called I Heart Passion, which is neutral / purples based, and I Heart Sin, which has some bright bold colours and a couple of neons in there too!

These new I Heart palettes have 16 shades which are a mixture of mattes and shimmers. These fall under the ‘Wonder Palettes’ category on the site, and sit with the two ‘Chocolate’ palettes. They cost £7.99 each, making each shadow about 49p.

The I Heart Sin palette has seven neutral shades, including black, greys and browns, and nine bright shades including purple, neon pink, blue, green and neon yellow. My preconceptions of this palette made me hope for great things with the shimmer shades, but not expect to much with the mattes. I was hoping I’d be proven wrong though as both the neon shades have matte finishes and I was really excited about these colours!

So if you take a look at the swatches, the shimmers do win hands down as expected. The two gold and brown shades, Golden Gun and Greed is Good were absolutely stunning, it was almost as if they’d been applied wet, the pigmentation was amazing and the colour was so intense! The two neons on the other hand were unfortunately not quite as exciting. The colour was great, and the pigmentation looked good too, they just didn’t apply very well and were quite chalky.

And now on to the I Heart Passion palette! This one is more neutral based, it has some lovely muted greys and purples. Again this has seven matte shades and nine shimmers.

There are some fab shimmers in this palette, I love the intense blue of Never Never and the deep green of Catch Your Eye. The I heart Passion palette definitely has more wearable, every day colours, but then I do love those two gold shades in the I heart Sin palette, I think I’m torn!

You’ve probably noticed I’ve written quite a few Makeup Revolution reviews lately, if you’re interested in reading any more of my posts you can check them out here –
