Cohorted’s First Beauty Box!

Posted on January 31, 2015

Hi Guys!

Ever since Cohorted sprang onto the beauty scene in March last year, they’ve dedicated their time to making the best cult beauty products accessible to UK beauty fans at amazing, hard to beat prices. I’ve personally purchased from them with no problems (I got my Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette form them) and worked with them too on some giveaways. They really are a lovely lot and I LOVE that they offer some fantastic discounts on popular and also hard to get products.

If you haven’t heard of Cohorted before, basically they have a small selection of cosmetics, skincare and other beauty items on sale each week, with limited quantities of each product often at heavily discounted prices, and the more people that sign up to purchase the product, the further the price drops. I won’t go into to much detail right no but you can check out how it works and read more about the site here.

Today though, I’m really excited to announce that Cohorted will shortly be launching their very own Beauty Box!

In collaboration with their website re-launch, Cohorted’s new Beauty Box will be available to purchase from 09/02/15 and will offer a selection of products from well-known beauty brands. This box will offer a different range of products every month from then on for the bargain price of £19.99.

Much like Lookfantastic, there will be no subscription option available, so you will need to manually purchase the box each month, also every box is identical, and they only available to order in the UK at the moment.

February’s box contains an amazing £67.50 worth of full and mini sized beauty products – and it’s worth mentioning there are only 100 of these boxes available. Also five lucky boxes will include an Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette worth £56! This palette is one of my favourite ever products so I think whoever finds one of them in their box will be over the moon!

I’m afraid I’ve been sworn to secrecy and I’m not able to show you the products yet, but I can tell you there are five in the box, all from well known and premium brands, and they include a mixture of cosmetics and skincare 🙂

Are you excited about Cohorted’s first beauty box? I’d love to hear your thoughts! xxx

Step Into Spring With J.W. Anderson

Posted on January 27, 2015

Hi Guys!

I do occasionally like to talk about gorgeous things that are way out of my price range, that I can’t help lusting after, or coveting. With that in mind today I’ve got a little designer feature for you. I did actually have the idea a while ago of doing this once a month, just sharing some of my all time favourite designers, and newer discoveries that had caught my eye, but I just didn’t get round to it so it never really happened! Now one of my favourite designer stores, Avenue 32 has asked me to do pretty much the same thing, so I’m taking this opportunity to tell you all about J. W. Anderson!

Jonathan William Anderson was born in 1984 (a good year, same as me) in Northern Ireland, and graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2005 after finishing his degree in menswear. The J.W. Anderson label was then launched in 2008 with a men’s collection, and at the beginning of 2010 due to high demand, he decided to expand and launched his first capsule collection for women.

I’m in love with J.W. Anderson’s Resort 2015 collection, it contains some beautifully sophisticated wardrobe staples, with subtle wrapping and knotting techniques which echo Anderson’s signature aesthetic. Fabrics are clean, crisp and fresh, with a limited colour palette making each piece easy to wear and incorporate into your current wardrobe. I particularly like the simple, origami-esque Midnight Leather Twist Bag, which would be a chic addition to any outfit, and the Blue Stripe Beach Bodice Dress with it’s modern detailing and subtle nod to nautical styling. I would absolutely love to have any of these pieces in my wardrobe!

All the items above are available from Avenue 32, and I’d love to hear who your favourite designers are?

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

NEW Makeup Revolution Lip Lava Lipsticks – Too Faced Melted DUPE!

Posted on January 26, 2015

Hi Guys!

Nothing excites me more than receiving an unexpected parcel, especially when it’s from one of my favourite brands. Makeup Revolution have just sent over their latest lip products – the full collection of five I Heart Makeup Lip Lavas! I have to say, the packaging instantly made me think of Too Faced’s Melted Lipsticks – and if you know me you’ll know these are one of my favourite lipsticks, so I couldn’t wait to get stuck in and try the Lip Lavas out!

Ok so let’s take a look at the packaging first. You can see there’s no mistaking the similarity between these and Too Faced’s Melted Lipsticks. The boxes really are similar in colour, style and text format.

The tubes are not quite so similar though. Both come in a squeezy type tube and have 12ml of product, with a soft slanted sponge applicator, but that’s where the similarities end. Too Faced Definitely wins on appearance here, but I should also point out that whereas Too Faced’s Melted Lipsticks are £19 each, Makeup Revolution’s Lip Lavas are only £2.99!

too faced nakeup-revolution-lip-lava-swatches

L-R – Shockwave, Forgiven, Tremor, Unleash, and Firestorm.

The collection contains five shades in gorgeous bright and vibrant colours. The Lip Lavas are described as an Intense lipstick formula, melted to create our most impactful gloss. Smooth and comfortable wear, with long lasting formula with Vitamin E.

I think it’s important to mention at this point that these products are not glosses. They do apply like a gloss, and at first have a shiny, lip gloss like finish, but after a while this dulls down to a beautiful satiny finish, they feel smooth and creamy to wear, and are super long lasting too. They’re not quite as matte feeling as the Melted Lipsticks, but I don’t see this as a bad thing at all, especially if your lips tend to be on the dry side as mine are.

So now onto the Dupe List! I’ve listed the MUR shades that match up to TF’s Melted Lipstick shades. Makeup Revolution Shade = Too Faced Shade

  • Shockwave = Melted Violet
  • Forgiven = Melted Nude
  • Tremor = Melted Peony
  • Unleash = Melted Coral
  • Firestorm = Melted Ruby

Here’s my first comparison – MUR Shockwave at the top and TF Melted Violet at the bottom, and I’m not sure what’s happened to my TF Melted Violet, but it’s gone really watery! I haven’t used it for a while so I tried shaking it and squirting a load out, but it was still the same. To get a better idea of what it normally looks like take a look here. The shade is pretty much spot on identical, and the formula is just just the same as my Melted Violet was before it went runny – so Shockwave looks like it’s going to be the perfect replacement.

Next we have MUR Forgiven at the top and TF Melted Nude at the bottom. You can see this is pretty much the perfect dupe. The formula feels the same, the consistency is the same, and now I’ve tried a couple of the Lip Lavas out, I can tell you they feel just the same on the lips too. The colours are perfectly opaque and I really have no complaints at all! (I also have the Melted Coral shade, which I really think would be the perfect dupe for Unleash, I seem to have misplaced it but you can check out my previous post here to see the colour, it’s the most gorgeous summery coral!)

The only two little niggles I have about the Lip Lavas are the fact that the tube doesn’t look too pleasing to the eye (in my opinion) and also the product names aren’t printed on the tubes, only the boxes. These really are insignificant issues though, as these are definitely my favourite Makeup Revolution products so far! I’m SO impressed with them, and if you’ve been wanting to try Too Faced’s Melted Lipsticks, I suggest you snap these up straight away – you can get the full set of 5 Lip Lavas for under £12, which is far less that ONE Melted Lipstick!

I’d love to hear you’r thoughts? I hope you enjoyed my review xxx

Appleyard London Bouquet & 40% Discount

Posted on January 23, 2015

Hi Guys!

Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day really aren’t too far away now, and some of you early birds might be thinking about gifts already – I know Valentine’s day doesn’t get thought about until a few days before hand in my house, but for Mother’s Day I’m always prepared as I like to get my mum some lovely flowers, as well as a couple of other treats. So if you have flowers in mind for a loved one’s gift, I’ve got the most gorgeous bouquet to inspire you today.

Appleyard London kindly sent me their stunning Liberty bouquet, which would be absolutely perfect for Mothers Day. It features beautiful crisp white scented oriental lilies (unfortunately these haven’t come out yet) as well as lilac memory lane roses with bold purple eustoma and country garden blue veronica. The bouquet is a lot larger than I expected, it includes – three White Oriental Lilys, six Memory Lane Roses, three Pink Astrantias, three Purple Eustomas, six Blue Veronicas, three Parvi Eucalyptus, and five Hard Ruscus. It really is a massive and stunning bunch, I only just managed to fit it in the biggest vase I could get my hands on!

The flowers also arrived extremely well protected, wrapped in cellophane, with the stems in a temporary pot keeping them fed, and housed in a large box.

I can’t tell you how happy I am with this bouquet! I know some people receive flowers quite often, or just buy them for their house, but I hardly ever have flowers so this really is a lovely treat. I don’t have much space so I’ve placed them in the kitchen next to the sink, and I love how they brighten the room up!

Appleyard have also kindly given me the most amazing discount to share with you – you can get a massive 40% off their range of luxury bouquets with code BLOG40 (this excludes the flowers by post range) There’s a large selection of beautiful bouquets to choose from, whether you prefer roses, carnations, lilies or any other flower you’ll be sure to find something you’ll love.

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Clarks Dunbar Animal Print Flats

Posted on January 22, 2015

Hi Guys!

Today I want to talk about Leopard print. It’s a bit of a marmite pattern, some people love it and some really can’t stand it. To some it conjurs up images of the famous Pat Butcher from Eastenders, with her AMZINGLY massive earrings and loud clothing, or if you’re a bit older you may remember Bet Lynch from Corrie, with her platinum blonde beehive? Leopard print, or animal print in general can look a bit, ahem, cheap, but I personally love animal prints! I actually had a good five years of my life where I pretty much lived in H&M brightly coloured leopard print vest tops, teamed with equally bight contrasting coloured cardigans – such good times! For those who might want to dabble with a bit of animal print though, without it being OTT, shoes and accessories are a great place to start.

This is where my amazing new shoes come in! Their full name is the Clarks Dunbar Cruiser in Tan Interest Leather, from Shoetique. ‘Interest’ I’m guessing means the print. These super comfy flats are a traditional moccasin style (which I have to say wouldn’t usually appeal to me) they’re made with leopard printed leather and have a textured pony hair upper, and I LOVE these shoes! They’re perfect for jazzing up an every day outfit, they look great with jeans, leggings, or frocks. They really are super versatile. They also have a cushioned leather insole for comfort, amazing!

So what do you think, have I tempted you to try leopard print out?? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Alternative Gift Ideas From Flamingo Gifts

Posted on January 21, 2015

Hi Guys!

With the impending holidays (I use that term very loosely) of Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, those that are organised will probably start thinking about gifts any time now. What to buy your partner / mother / friend / pet? And today I’ve got some gorgeous alternative gift ideas to share with you from the fabulous Flamingo Gifts.

Flamingo sell the famous Falmingo Candles,of which I’m a big fan, as well as a massive range of gifts, including some fantastic famous brands such as Ted Baker, Orla Kiely and Hello Kitty.

One of my favourite items on the whole site has to be the You’re Magic Makeup Bag by Hazel Nicholls (above). This super fun little makeup bag is made of durable cream canvas, with neon pink stitching, and a neon and black ‘You’re Magic!’ motif. This is such a fun alternative to the standard plain or floral makeup bags that are found everywhere!

A fab gift for Mother’s Day would be this beautiful Opulent Bloom Travel Jewellery Roll by Ted Baker. If you’re a regular reader you’ll be aware of my love for Ted Baker gifts, and this Jewellery roll is no exception. It has a wipe clean finish with Ted Baker’s signature rose gold hard wear, in the form of zipped sections on the inside, and in the centre there’s even a separate zipped case (that looks very much like like a slim pencil case) which is fixed on with poppers, so it can be used separately if you wish. If you like to travel in style I’d highly recommend this to keep your precious things safe.

And lastly, the most fun and quirky item of the lot, the Pen Orgy Pencil Case by Happy Jackson. I’d never heard of Happy Jackson before but after seeing this pencil case it’s officially one of my favourite brands. If, like me you have a bit of a naughty sense of humour, this will definitely appeal! You can also purchase notebooks, bags and lunch boxes for the same range which all have cute, funny and witty quotes.

I hope this has given you some gift inspiration! Don’t forget to check out Flamingo Gifts for oodles of gift ideas for all occasions! xxx

Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette

Posted on January 20, 2015

Hi Guys!

Hot on the heels of my Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette I now have the gorgeous Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette, yippee! Too Faced really has been one of my favourite beauty brand discoveries last year, there isn’t a product I’ve come across that I haven’t liked! (You can also check my Melted Lipsticks review out here)

The Cat Eye Palette couldn’t be more different from the Chocolate Bar Palette – this one has three base shades and six eye shadows, with three of the shadows having the option of being used wet or dry to create a more intense look. Where as the Chocolate Bar palette is more of an all rounder, evry day, neutral palette, the Cat Eyes palette is aimed towards creating specify looks – which you’re helped with by the handy looks guide included. The guide offers step by step instructions for three different looks, including Day, Classic and Fashion. I think these guides really are handy, whether your new to makeup or would call yourself an expert, it’s always interesting to see someone else’s take on using colour and application.

The palette comes in Too Faced’s classic tin style casing with an awesome animal print finish. It’s a good semi-compact size (much smaller than the Chocolate Bar palette) so it would fit into most makeup bags, and there’s a handy mirror on the inside of the lid and I’m also pleased to say no brushes. I say pleased because I’m really not a fan of brushes that come with palettes – of any brand. I find they tend to cheapen the palette – especially if they’re the sponge applicator type. I’d rather the space was used for more products that brushes that won’t get used!

Too Faced have included three base shades which can also be used as highlighters, two being matte and one shimmer. ‘Purrr’ is a shimmery vanilla, ‘Meow’ is a matte ivory, and ‘Kitten’ is a shimmery light rose.

The first three shadows are (L-R) Kitty Glitter, Pussy Cat and Tiger’s Eye. Tiger’s Eye has to be my favourite here, it’s a beautiful intense shimmering bronze, full of colour and depth. Pussy Cat is a cute cool toned shimmer orchid pink, and Kitty Glitter is definitely more of a glitter shade, unfortunately my camera didn’t capture the sparkles in this shade, it’s actually super sparkly!

The last three shades can be worn wet or dry, so they’re perfect for creating intensely pigmented eye looks and can also be used as eyeliner. ‘Panther’ is matte jet black, ‘Jungle Love’ is navy blue with a hit of sparkle and ‘Leopard’ is a beautiful chocolate brown with golden sparkles.

Overall I’m really impressed with this palette, Too Faced have included a great variety of shades that can be easily experimented with to create a wide variety of looks – and I’ve just seen Too Faced have some brand new shades of Melted Lipsticks, this was one of my favourite products of last year so I can’t wait to get my hands on these next!

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried anything by Too faced? I hope you enjoyed my review xxx
