Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 08.49.48 Hi Everyone! My name is Lauren, I’m a 24 year old blogger and Creative Copywriter living and working in London since 2013. Seeing as I chose to start a new life in one of the most expensive cities in the world, I decided to start a blog all about how my friends and I – at the bottom rungs of our career ladders – live and have fun in the Big Smoke. Welcome to life in London, on a budget. Modest London.

I’m Lisa a 24 year old blogger from Lisahh-Jayne. I started my blog 4 years ago when I was at university when I found I had a lot of spare time and an obsession with makeup and no one to talk to about it. When I’m not typing away about lipsticks or nail varnish, I can be found working in the digital marketing world, drinking about 800 cups of tea, or with my cat, deaf Jeff.

Hi, I’m Aimee-Jade (or AJ for short) and a run a beauty and lifestyle blog over at Bella La Moda. BLM started off primarily as a beauty blog but as my interests grew I found that they transpired over to my blog and it’s ended up becoming pretty much an all rounder. I still have a passion for makeup and can never help myself when “browsing” in Boots (which always inevitably ends in a minimum purchase of £50 worth of goodies) but I’ve recently got massively into health and fitness. I blog about anything really from beauty to health & fitness to home and DIY. I blog four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sunday’s post is normally a video uploaded to my YouTube channel. Look forward to seeing you over on my blog! x

Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 08.55.17 My name is Cherry (yes, like the fruit!) and I run I’ve had my blog for over six years now and it’s now a place for me to write about affordable, high street beauty that normal people like you and I use and love. I currently live in the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare with my boyfriend and our cat so you’ll often hear about what we’re getting up to too.

Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 09.02.57 Hi All! I’m Lydia and I write beauty and lifestyle blog, Electric Suede. I live in Cardiff with my boyfriend, Glenn and one year old son, Archer (who make occasional guest appearances!). Whilst my blog features mainly beauty posts, I also love to write about health, food, home and motherhood. Expect reviews, hauls, recipes, family days out and the occasional awkward selfie! Swing by and say hello!

I still have advertising spaces available for July, which include an ad space in my sidebar, social media mentions and much more – please do check the details out here and if you’re interested drop me a line at to book in xxx

Latest In Beauty – Capital FM Best Of Summer Beauty Box

Posted on June 29, 2015

Hi Guys!

I’ve got a pretty exciting beauty box on the blog for you today! This is Latest in Beauty’s most recent collaboration with Capital FM – The Best Of Summer #Capitalbeautybox. This box is £17.95 and contains a massive bundle of products to help you look amazing this sumer!

Let’s take a look in the box –

  • MUA Mega Volume Mascara (7ml) worth £3.00
  • Hawaiian Tropic Satin Protection Ultra Radiance Sun Lotion (100ml) worth £5.99
  • Malin + Goetz Travel Skincare Mini Set worth £10
  • Carmex Moisture Plus Lip Balm in Berry (full size) worth £4.50
  • MUA Poptastic Eyeshadow Palette (full size) worth £4.00
  • Fudge Urban Hair Art (full size) worth £5.99
  • Dr Organic Dead Sea Minerals Bio-Plasma Mud Mask (100ml) worth £7.99
  • Nails Inc Gel Effect Nail Polish (8ml) worth £10
  • Colab Sheer & Invisible Paris Dry Shampoo (50ml) worth £2.50
  • I Love… Perfectly Peachy Bath & Shower Cream (10ml) worth £1.00

Total value = £54.97

Ok so I’m going to start with the Nails Inc polish, as this really caught my eye! The shade Soho Place is just beautiful – I love greens and blues on my nails so this definitely gets a thumbs up from me! It also has a gel effect finish so it gives a super shiny, ‘salon’ finish to your nails which I love.

The Dr Organic Bioactive Skincare Organic Dead Sea Mineral Bio-Plasma Mud Mask (what a mouthful) caught my eye next, because I’m a big fan of masks and I haven’t heard of this brand before. This is a detoxifying mask that penetrates deep into the skin to remove excess oil and impurities whilst stimulating new cell regeneration. I’ve just tried this mask and my skin is now feeling super clean and fresh!

Next is the Malin & Goetz mini set, which includes their Grapefruit Face Cleanser (10ml), Vitamin E Face Moisturiser (10ml) and Lip Moisturiser (5ml) I haven’t had a chance to try the face products out yet, but I can tell you the cleanser smells lovely! The Lip Moisturiser though, I absolutely love! I’m forever getting dry lips and I pretty much have lip balms coming out of my ears after collecting so many of them. I’ve only used this Lip Moisturiser a couple of times so far but I can confidently say it’s one of my all time favourites already – possibly my actual favourite! Seriously, if you suffer with dry lips, you need this product. Also, a full sized Lip Moisturiser is only £10 from Space NK – take a look and you may notice everyone that’s left a review has given this product 5 stars!

On the subject of lip balms, there’s also a rather nice Carmex Moisture Plus Tinted Lip Balm in the box, this is handy if you like a hint of colour but aren’t keen on a full on lipstick. This will definitely be added to my makeup bag!

Next up is the Co Lab Dry Shampoo in Paris. This apparently has a ‘floral fragrance’ – I can’t quite put my finger on it but there’s something really quite masculine about this scent, it smells like a man’s deodorant to me! If the fragrance doesn’t deter you, the mini 50ml bottle is the perfect size to throw in your handbag.

Keeping with the theme of hair, there’s also a new Fudge Urban Spray In Hair Colour in Violet Haze in the box. This is the spray in / wash out type of hair colour, so it won’t permanently dye your hair. I’ve just sprayed this in my husbands dark brown hair, and he has a nice lilac streak now! 😀

The Hawaiian Tropic Satin Protection SPF30 Sun Lotion is another fantastic product – the cream sinks into the skin leaving no residue, and the best bit? It smells like HOLIDAY! This is seriously one of the best smelling sun lotions I’ve ever tried. I’ll be dreaming of tropical climes tonight after inhaling this!

And lastly the MUA products, considering they’re cheap as chips, they’re actually not too bad at all! The eyeshadow palette contains some pretty bright colours so it won’t be to everyone’s taste, but it’s a great and inexpensive way to start dabbling with colour, and the Mega Volume Mascara again wasn’t too bad, it didn’t give my stumpy lashes the best volume ever, but it could have been a lot worse.

Ok so over all this really is a pretty awesome box! I’m so impressed with the range and quality of the contents, plus at only £17.95 it’s is a complete bargain! Grab one now while you can!

You can purchase this box now from Latest In Beauty. I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

A Weekend In Cambridge

Posted on June 27, 2015

Hi Guys!

You might have noticed things have been a bit quite on the blog this week, and I’ve not been so active on social media. Well I decided to have some ‘time off’ and went with my family for a long weekend in Cambridge! (Before then heading off to London for a few days, but I’ll save that for a separate post) Before we went I decided I wouldn’t take the laptop – it’s always good to have a break I think, and when I’ve taken time off before it’s great to come back to blogging feeling refreshed and invigorated!

Luckily, Cambridge is only about an hours’ drive for us, and we planned a couple of things to do before leaving. So on our way to checking into the Cambridge Central Travelodge, we thought it would be a good idea to stop off at Funky Funhouse. This is a massive soft play centre set away from the town on an industrial estate. Fred had the best time romping around with the other children there and after a couple of hours we headed off to check in at the Travelodge.

Cambridge Central Travelode is conveniently located within a reasonable walking distance of the town centre. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and our room, was clean and spacious and had everything we needed – there was a TV, coffee and tea making facilities and an en-suite bathroom.

We unpacked our bags and headed off for a quick look around Cambridge – unfortunately we didn’t quite make it into the centre as Fred was pretty tired from all the running around, so we stopped in a pub for a snack then went back to the hotel for the evening. I should also mention that the hotel is also handily located at the leisure centre complex, so there’s a mini Sainsbury’s and Tesco on hand next door if you need to stoke up on supplies. There’a also a cinema, gym, and loads of restaurants including Frankie and Benny’s, Chiquito’s and Bella Italia if you’re looking for something to eat but don’t want to travel into Cambridge centre.

On the Saturday we woke up after a good night’s sleep – our room had air con, YES!! We headed into Cambridge for a look round the shops – I made a beeline for Kiko, John Lewis and Space NK (I’ll be showing you my purchases soon!) and we stopped for lunch at Zizi’s. We then took a pretty long walk to the Fitzwilliam Museum, and got soaked in the rain!

After catching the bus back – my legs were tired so Fred’s poor little legs must have been knackered! We went back to our room for a brew and a rest and headed out to Chiquito’s for our evening meal. We left early on Sunday, stopping at Funky Funhouse again before hitting the road home.

Travelodge good points: Our room was clean and spacious. It was in a great location with all the leisure park facilities at hand. The staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was easily accessible and easy to find. Breakfast was also an all you can eat buffet – one day Freddy had Cocopops as a treat then two helpings of sausages and beans! He was very happy!

Travelodge points worth mentioning: When we arrived we found out this Travelodge doesn’t have it’s own car park. There *is* a car park but it’s for the Leiseure Centre, and costs £12 every 24 hours. Alternatively you can park at the nearby multi-story for a reduced rate of £7 per day. This isn’t the end of the world by any means but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Cambridge good points: Cambridge has a fantastic selection of shops, I wish we had longer to explore! (and more money!) For the beauty lovers like me there’s stand alone stores for Penhalligons, MAC, Clarins, L’Occitane, Molton Brown, Jo Malone, Kiko, Space NK… and these are just the ones I happened to walk past! As Cambridge really isn’t that far away for me, I’ll definitely be heading back soon for a proper shopping spree! I’d really like to go punting on the river too!

Cambridge points worth mentioning: As much as I loved Cambridge, it’s quite ‘touristy’ and clearly we stood out as tourists because the amount of times we got collared by student-type street sellers asking us to go on a tour, or punting (when it was raining) was quite ridiculous. This was literally my only complaint though, Cambridge really is a lovely place!

It was so lovely to have a weekend away with my family, massive thanks to Talented Talkers and Travelodge for putting us up for the weekend xxx

My Ultimate Beauty Icon: Alexa Chung #HoFBeautyAmbassador

Posted on June 25, 2015

Hi Guys!

Today I’m talking about beauty icons – do you know who yours would be? When I think of who inspires me in terms of beauty, I instantly think of The Queen of the Cat Eye, Alexa Chung! There’s plenty of celebrities who’s beauty style I love and inspire me, but Alexa just has that effortlessly beautiful look… fresh clean skin, a nude lip and of course a cat eye flick – what more does a girl need!?

Eyeliner is ‘my thing’ and the main part of Alexa’s signature look – I think this is why she appeals so much to me. She always looks beautiful and has that I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-but-still-look-amazing look going on, like she’s not even trying. With those tousled beachy waves, her casual boho style and flawless skin. I’d quite happily live a day in her shoes!

Ok so I’ve put together a little Alexa checklist for my look! This is what I need to accomplish –

  1. Flawless yet dewy, youthful looking skin.
  2. Neutral eyelids with a slight shimmer.
  3. The blackest black, super sharp eyeliner.
  4. Nude coloured matte or satin finish lips.

Let’s do this!

I love that her beauty look is easy to achieve for everyone – with either high end or budget beauty products, there’s a way anyone and everyone can create this on themselves!

And these are the products I chose to create the look:

  • Chanel Vitalumiere Satin Smoothing Foundation in Clair – This is one of my long-time favourite foundations, it works amazingly well on my skin which tends to be dry, and it has the perfect formula to give skin a luminous, glowing finish.
  • Seventeen Phwoarr Paint in Fair – I use this to cover redness, blemishes and my ever impressive under eye bags. This is easily the best high street concealer I’ve come across for coverage.
  • MAC Mineralize Eyeshadow Duo in Force of Nature – This is such a beautiful shimmer duo. I used the lightest shade only for a wash of colour across the lids.
  • Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner Pen in Black – If you’re not a fan of traditional liquid eyeliners, this pen style liner is the perfect alternative to create a sharp line.
  • Bourjois 1 Seconde Volume Mascara in Black – This is one of my favourite budget mascaras, it works really well on my short lashes giving both volume and length.
  • Chella Brow Pencil in Light Brown – I love this twist up style pencil, it has a super fine tip which is perfect for drawing in fine hairs.
  • Carmex Lip Balm – When using a matte lipstick, always prep lips first so they’re in top condition before application. Carmex is a fab budget balm.
  • Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in 03 – I love a nude lip with a statement eye, and this shade is just perfect! 03 is a matte nude pink toned beige, it’s not too brown or yellow and really goes well with my complexion.

Rather than show you my whole face, I thought a zoomed in eye would be fun! I really love the Maybelline Master Precise Eyeliner Pen, it’s perfect for creating an intense black sharp flick, and it’s super affordable too. If you’re looking for a softer look though, try a pencil eyeliner which can easily be blended or smudged.

I should probably mention now that this blog post is actually a competition entry! So I really hope you like it!? I was SO excited when I heard House of Fraser were looking to find a Beauty Ambassador, and I don’t usually enter blog competitions but I really would love to win this so so much, I though it was definitely worth a shot!

So what’s it all about? Basically House of Fraser are looking for a beauty blogger to become their Beauty Ambassador for the next 12 months. The Ambassadorship includes being a brand advocate, as well as £1000 of makeup, exclusive samples, invites and more. If you’re a beauty junkie like me, this really is beyond exciting!!

This would literally make my year, I love the fantastic beauty range that House of Fraser offer – I can’t not visit when I’m shopping in Norwich! So please do comment and share, and let me know what your think of this look! I’d love to hear if you’re a fan of Alexa? And who your beauty icon is?

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Nair Argan Oil Range: #SkinbyNair

Posted on June 24, 2015

Hi Guys!

In case you hadn’t guessed, I’m talking about hair removal on the blog today! Nair is one of the most well known brands on the high street offering affordable hair removal products, and they’ve just brought out a massive range of Argan Oil based hair removal products for body and face, as well as pretty much anywhere else you want to de-fuzz!

The Nair Argan Oil range is infused with moisturising and nourishing natural Argan Oil and Orange Blossom. I’m a big fan of Argan Oil, which has become popular in hair care products over the last few years, so it’s great to see that brands are now starting to incorporate it into a bigger variety products. Argan oil is rich in beneficial nutrients including vitamin E and fatty acids, and it’s fantastic for giving soft, supple and glowing skin. It’s also known to protect, detox, heal, nourish and soothe the skin with properties that include antioxidants, vitamin E, anti inflammatory and natural softening agents.

The collection includes a massive range of products including wax strips, creams and roll ons, there’s definitely something here to suit all your hair removal needs –

  • Nair Argan Oi Shower Power Cream (£6.69)
  • Nair Argan Oil Facial Brush On Sensitive Hair Remover
  • Nair Argan Oil Facial Wax Strips
  • Nair Argan Oil Ultra Precision Upper Lip Kit
  • Nair Argan Oil Ultra Precision Roll On Wax for Face and Eyebrows
  • Nair Argan Oil Bikini Brush On Hair Removal Cream (£5.99)
  • Nair Argan Oil Body Wax Strips for Legs, Body and Bikini (£6.69)
  • Nair Argan Oil Bikini and Under Arm Glide On Hair Remover (£5.10)
  • Nair Argan Oil Washable Roll On Wax
  • Nair Argan Oil Salon Divine Body Wax (£11.99)

(I’ve included the RRP’s above where they’ve been provided to me)

I’ve been trying most of the above products out over the last few days – and before I go any further I need to tell you I’m a complete novice when it comes to waxing! I’ve always used razors in the past so this has been a new experience for me! My favourite products were definitely the Washable Roll On Wax and the Bikini & Underarm Glide On. I love the convenience of both of these products. The Glide on literally glides on like a deodorant stick, and the Roll On Wax is so easy to use and mess-free. Though more painful than I was expecting (I’m a total wuss) the waxing process actually wasn’t too bad, so I’d definitely be up for waxing on a more regular basis. For those that aren’t a fan of wax, the cream products are also fantastic, again easy to use and completely pain free!

If you’re interested in purchasing any of these products, you can currently save a third on selected Nair products at Boots.

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any Nair products? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Perricone MD Face Finishing Moisturising Tint

Posted on June 17, 2015

Hi Guys!

Perricone MD has always been a brand that intrigues me. I’ve tried a couple of their products now and I love their ‘skincare meets science’ ethos. If you haven’t herd of them, Perricone MD products are pretty much on the borderline of where skincare meets medicine – known as cosmecuticals.

‘Dr. Perricone introduced his patented formulations and immediately set a new industry standard for product efficacy with results that often rival more invasive and potentially risky dermatological procedures. This new category, known as cosmeceuticals, has raised the bar of people’s expectations for topical skincare.’

The Perricone MD mission is to offer an intelligent and synergistic approach to more youthful skin and optimal health. Offering products that are formulated with the most potent anti-aging skincare and supplements at the forefront of skin science, researched and prescribed by Dr. Nicholas Perricone.

One of their latest products – Face Finishing Moisturizer Tint SPF30 promises to protect skin with corrective nutrients while giving a luminous, tinted glow. This is a deeply-hydrating, antioxidant rich moisturiser, which is also oil free and fast-absorbing. This lightweight cream is formulated with unique pigment capsules that slowly release upon application to steadily reveal a warm tint that adjusts to your individual skin tone. Featuring key sciences that include Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vitamin C Ester, and other powerful ingredients, this product helps defer the signs of aging by boosting collagen and elastin production while brightening, renewing and smoothing skin’s texture. You’re advised to use alone for a naturally translucent finish, or layer under foundation to further customize your shade.

You can see I’ve applied the cream quite thickly on the back of my hand, so you can see the mottled colour, then when rubbed in (FYI I haven’t rubbed in fully here) you get a lovely light tan shade that’s easily buildable. I haven’t blended it into the back of my hand, just so you can get a good idea of the intensity of colour you can achieve. Once rubbed in though, this cream really does give a beautiful light hint of tan to the skin – being super pale I’m always a bit wary of tanning, but this shade is really natural and you can re-apply the product to increase the intensity if you wish. It has a lovely ‘no makeup’ super lightweight feel on the skin, and really helps to even out your complexion. I’ll definitely be getting a lot of use out of this product over the summer!

If you’re into tinted moisturisers and looking for a natural finish, I’d definitely recommend you try this product out.

Perricone MD Face Finishing Moisturizing Tint is £57 for 59ml, and available now from Perricone MD

Cohorted June Beauty Box | Review

Posted on June 16, 2015

Hi Guys!

Well June’s Cohorted box has just landed, and as expected it’s another one jam packed with fantastic products. Here’s what’s included in this month’s box –

  • Cargo Cosmetics Let’s Meet in Paris Eyeshadow Palette – Full size worth £35.00
  • Cargo Cosmetics Bronzer in Light – Full size worth £20.00
  • Essie Summer 2014 Collection nail polish in 321 Roarrrange – 5ml worth £5.00
  • (Surprise product) MAC Eyeshadow in Shroom – Full size worth £13.00

Total value = £73.00

Cohorted, you really are spoiling us with these gorgeous Cargo palettes!! This is the second full size 12 pan palette they’ve included in their boxes – each worth a massive £35.00, and I haven’t had a chance to review the first one yet! (You can see it in last month’s box here)

Ok so the Let’s Meet in Paris palette comes in a lovely printed fabric covered case, it has a handy interior mirror and contains twelve stunning shimmer shadows. And these. Are. Stunning. They’ve included a couple of gorgeous golds, nudes and greys, as well as a jewel tone deep green and purple. All shades are really wearable and perfect to create a smoky eye. I WILL be doing full reviews (and hopefully looks) with both palettes in the next couple of weeks, so keep your eye out!

Also, Cohorted have included the Cargo Powder Bronzer in Light. This comes packaged in a decent sized tin with a screw on lid – it kind of reminds me of the type of tin Steam Cream comes in. This is a lovely light shade of warm toned bronzer, with a slight hint of shimmer. It’s perfect for warming up lighter complexions but can also be built up if you have a darker skin tone.

The Essie polish in 321 Roarrrange is a really nice bright orange shade. It’s not neon in any way but it’s definitely an intense orange – the sort of shade that would look great with a tan! Also, I actually don’t mind that it’s s small 5ml bottle, I have SO many nail polishes that I’ve only used once, I don’t think I’ve ever actually used a nail polish up, so receiving a smaller bottle isn’t a problem at all.

And lastly Cohorted have included a mystery gift in every box. From looking on Twitter this appears to have been either a Sleek Contour Kit or MAC Eyeshadow. I already have the Contour Kit so I’m really glad I got this eyeshadow! Shroom is a really nice soft beige satin shade with a slight shimmer. It’s perfect for an all over base and I know I’ll definitely get a lot of use out of it.

Well done to Cohorted for bringing out another fantastic box! I think Cohorted’s monthly boxes are easily my favourite out of all the beauty boxes I’ve tried. They always include fantastic quality and high end brands, with mostly full size products. Keep up the good work guys!

I hope you enjoyed my post xx
