Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate

Posted on July 31, 2015

Hi Guys!

Before I get started with today’s product overview, I thought I’d just ask, if you’re a blogger, are you signed up to Klout? If you haven’t heard of Klout, in simple terms it’s a way to measure your social media influence. It tracks your activity and interactions on social media and awards you a score. I must admit I very rarely check my Klout page, and haven’t had anyone ask for my score, but the reason I’m bringing this up is because Klout also occasionally give you ‘Perks’. I had an email about a week ago saying I was eligible for a new ‘perk’ from Kiehl’s. I logged into my account and was greeted with the following message –

Ahead of the Nationwide launch in August, Kiehl’s are delighted to invite you to try NEW Daily Reviving Concentrate, for revived & energised skin from morning to night!

Well how exciting and unexpected is that! Of course I took up the offer and my beautifully packaged parcel arrived about a week later. I thought I’d mention this because it would definitely be worth signing up to Klout if you haven’t already!

Anyway, onto the product! If you’re a fan of Kiehl’s, you should already be aware of their best-selling Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which promises youthful looking skin when you wake up in the morning. Well Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate is basically the day version of this product. It’s a lightweight facial oil designed to keep skin looking radiant all day long.

It promises to strengthen skin’s defenses against daily aggressors to keep your complexion youthful and radiant-looking all day. It also provides antioxidant protection with a powerful blend of naturally-derived oils, including Ginger Root, Sunflower and Tamanu, to help skin feel fresh and look energized morning to night. And it’s paraben free, of 100% natural origin, mineral oil free, non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic.

Kiehl’s recommend you lightly pat several drops all over face in upward circular motion (avoiding the immediate eye area) in the morning after your serum and before moisturiser. I’ve used this a few times now and I’m loving it so far! My skin definitely benefits from a bit of TLC, especially when I’m tired and bleary-eyed in the morning, and this is perfect for making your complexion look a bit more alive and radiant whilst leaving skin super soft – it’s definitely a welcome addition to my morning routine!

I’d love to hear if you’re a fan of Kiehl’s? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Stationery Just Got Sexy…

stationery just got sexy_edited-1

Hi Guys!

Ok so I’ve been on a complete stationery binge lately, and there really is no better word to describe it than a BINGE. I’ve been so good for ages (and by ages I mean weeks) only window shopping and not actually buying anything, then the other day I just snapped, and I bought ALL THE THINGS. Which haven’t actually arrived yet, so I’ll post about them when they do! Apart from makeup, stationery is something I really just can’t help buying. I love anything that’s brightly coloured, patterned, gold and while. Any combination of these features and I’m pretty much guaranteed to buy it! Even though I already have pens and pencils and notepads coming out of my ears, as soon as I see a pretty new stationery product I HAVE TO BUY IT. I’m sure I’m not the only blogger that has this problem, so if you’re like me, please feel free to tell me all about your stationery addiction too in the comments so I don’t feel so bad 🙂

So on my latest stationery hunt, I discovered quite a few awesome brands, including Kate Spade, Hay and to name but a few. I thought I’d put together a little wish list so I could share some of my lustings with you…

Do any of these gorgeous goodies take your fancy? Let me know what you think!

My Makeup Atelier Paris Top Picks!

Posted on July 28, 2015

Hi Guys!

I’ve got an exciting new makeup brand on the blog today – well new to me anyway! In fact, it turns out that Makeup Atelier Paris isn’t actually new at all, I was quite surprised to hear that they’ve been around since the early 90’s! They kindly sent me an amazing bundle of products to try out, and rather than write about everything individually, I thought it’d be a good idea to put this post together focussing solely on my favourite products. I’m aware that Makeup Atelier Paris isn’t the best known brand on the market, so I thought this could be handy starting point for those looking to try some lesser known beauty brands…

So firstly, a bit of background… Makeup Atelier Paris provide a massive range of cruelty free cosmetics, with an even larger range of shades. They actually offer over 50 shades of foundation and 20 shades of concealer and loose powders, which really is amazing!

Unlike many beauty brands, Makeup Atelier Paris also have their very own laboratory and manufacturing facility, which gives them a great advantage when it comes to innovation and responding to the latest trends. Makeup Atelier Paris’ laboratory is constantly working to increase the variety, quality and performance of their products.

Ok so here’s a little overview of some of my favourite products –

Starting with the bases (swatched from top to bottom above)

Waterproof Liquid Corrector and Concealer in FLWA1 IvoryThis is a great little concealer for medium coverage of blemishes. The tube is actually pretty substantial holding 8g of product, so you’l get a lot of use out of it. And the formula is also waterproof and contains light reflecting pigments. I found this didn’t give me quite the coverage I needed for my major under-eye bags, but it was great for general touch ups over the rest of my face.

Waterproof Liquid Foundation in FLW2BOk so I’m officially in love with this foundation. It’s long wearing, water resistant and gives fantastic medium to full coverage. It suits my normal to dry skin really well, and gives my complexion a beautifully flawless yet luminous finish when used over the primer. The shade FLW2B is also perfect for me, it’s just makes me look alive and healthy!

Eclat Makeup Base Primer – I do like a primer, but I must admit I’m a bit lazy and don’t use them on a day to day basis –  I just don’t have the time! This primer though, is perfect for dull and lifeless complexions (which unfortunately describes my face pretty well) it contains light enhancing and reflecting pigments to brighten and illuminate, and just gives skin a gorgeous glow without any sparkle or shine. This teams up perfectly for me with the Waterproof Liquid Foundation.

Iridescent Highlighter in Naked This is a gorgeous silvery pink high shimmer highlighter, very much like Benefit’s Moon Beam, this product is perfect for highlighting the cheekbones and brow bones, and it’s also easy to build up the intensity if you fancy practicing a bit of strobing!

Eyeshadow Palette in T22Makeup Atelier Paris also have a massive selection of eyeshadow palettes on offer – 23 of them in fact! So there should really be something to suit everyone, whether you prefer neons or neutrals! The T22 palette contains five neutral shades, ranging from white to nearly black – unfortunately you can’t see the lighter shades too well on my super pale arms! All the shades in this palette have a matte finish, though other palettes also include glitter and pearl finishes too. The eyeshadow formula includes silicone and fatty acids to allow for smooth application, and Mica powder to create a soft focus, light reflecting appearance.

And lastly the Longwear Lip Colours in Beige Rose and Rouge Franc As you may have noticed, liquid lipsticks are everywhere at the moment, and Makeup Atelier Paris have their own range of 12 rich and intense shades. These Longwear Lip Colours have amazing pigmentation and give a velvet matte finish once dry. Beige Rose is a beautiful nude beige shade that’s slightly on the pink side so it’s easy to wear, and Rouge Franc is the most intense red, perfect for a statement lip. Both shades have fantastic pigmentation and are super long lasting.

Well, you won’t be surprised to hear that I’m SO happy to have discovered this brand! Apart from the fact that I’ve found the most amazing foundation and primer combo for my skin, the other products are all fantastic too, and I know I’m going to get a lot of use out of them. If you’re looking to try out some new beauty products – especially bases – I’d highly recommend you check out Makeup Atelier Paris.

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

The Weekly Top 5 #13

Posted on July 26, 2015

Hi Guys!

Happy Sunday! This week has been a bit of a funny one for me – I feel like I say that a lot actually! My son has been poorly with a virus and now he’s better he’s passed it to my husband and I, thanks! We’ve both now got some weird lump thing on our tongues which is pretty strange, and it hurts to talk and eat, which is never fun! So I’ve been feeling a bit rotten for the last few days really! In better news though, we also went to a good friend’s wedding yesterday which was a lot of fun, the weather held out and Fred had a great time playing with the other children. By the end of the night all the girls were on the dance floor doing the Macarena, and now I’m left with a slightly fuzzy head today 🙂

I’m also off to London next week with some exciting things planned – all will be revealed soon, and I’m planning to visit one of my blogger chums, Ting from The Ting Thing in Birmingham soon too which is really exciting! It’s basically going to be two full days of shopping, eating and gossiping about makeup!

Here’s this week’s top five

L.A.B.2 Strokes Of Genius Eye Brush Set (£18.99) – This is a brand new brand to me, and even though I’ve only just started using these brushes, I’m super impressed already! This Eye Brush Set includes five must have eye brushes, including an Eyeshadow Brush, Crease Brush, Pointed Eyeliner Brush, Brow & Liner Brush, and Brow & Lash Groomer. Each brush comes with soft touch handle and includes FiberLuxe Technology, which is described as ‘the softest and highest quality filaments for professional results every time’. They promise superior pigment pick-up and release, even colour distribution and precise makeup application. For the price of this set, I’m really impressed so far!

Next is the Palm Skater Dress by Simply Be (£45.00) – I decided last week that I’d better buy a new frock for my friend’s wedding, and ended up in one of my favourite shops – Simply Be. Apart from stocking some gorgeous clothes, I can honestly say the Norwich store has some of the nicest shop floor staff I’ve ever some across. I purchased the super pretty Palm Skater Dress as apart from having a lovely pattern, it’s also the perfect style for my bottom-heavy shape. I love the print, and the fact that it’s black and white so you can accessorise with pretty much any colour imaginable!

The Book of Summer Beauty by ESPA (£24.99) – You can’t beat a surprise in the post! And I was over the moon when I received a beautifully packaged parcel from ESPA this week. The Limited Edition Book of Summer Beauty includes ESPA’s three summer beauty essentials – including the Optimal Skin ProSerum to even skin tone and restore radiance, 24 hour Replenishing Moisturiser to prevent the early signs of ageing and Pink Hair and Scalp Mud to condition hair and scalp. Expect a full review coming up within the next month or so.

Be Legendary Matte Lipstick by Smashbox (£16.00) – I’m a big fan of a matte lip, and Smashbox’s new collaboration with Instagram star and artist, Donal Richardson includes a new matte shade collection that’s just spot on for the summer. I have the shade Paris Pink, which is a beautiful and wearable matte pink shade. The formula includes vitamins and antioxidants to nourish and protect the lips, with an lovely creamy formula.

And lastly, this week’s TV obsession has been Big School. If you haven’t heard of Big School, it’s a new comedy series on Netflix, starring a couple of my favourite comedy actors – David Walliams and Catherine Tate. Big School tells the story of school life from the teacher’s point of view, and the antics they get up to. I won’t tell you anymore, you’ll have to watch it!

In case you missed it – I’m currently holding a giveaway with QVC where two winners will win two Soapsmith sets each, and I’ve also just reviewed some beautiful new Autumn releases from Clarins on the blog too…

Other things worth mentioning –

I’ve ben doing a *little* bit of shopping lately, and I’m really excited because I’ve signed up to a new subscription box, which should arrive in early August. Keep your eyes peeled to find out which one it is! And I also have plans in place to finish off my office (which I know I keep going on about) but I feel like I’m finally getting somewhere this time, so I’ll tell you all about it as soon as it’s done 🙂

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

Summer Brights Wish List!

Posted on July 24, 2015

summer brights wish list

Hi Guys!

At the moment, I just can’t get enough of anything that’s bright, cute and kitsch. If it falls under the category of neon or novelty, I WANT IT. I need it in my life! I really feel like I’m clinging onto the summer with all my might – the weather is still hot and muggy, but unfortunately the sun seems to have ‘done one’ of late. And though I’ve been trying to be good when it comes to spending, I have actually been buying a few things recently… some beauty bits from some blog sales (all will be revealed soon) and some awesome new stationery from the US, which definitely falls under the cute and kitsch category! Hopefully my delivery will arrive soon so I can show you what I bought (and they’re all completely necessary, important things of course)

Is it just me or does anyone else spend a lot of time, and I mean A LOT, window shopping online, filling your virtual baskets with hundreds and sometimes thousands of pounds of gorgeous goodies, just to take things out of said bag one by one to try to make it affordable? Then realising you shouldn’t really be buying anything anyway, and you should really be doing the washing up / hoovering / dusting / insert relevant chore, rather than browsing thing you can’t afford?

Yeah I spend a lot of time doing that, hence my latest wish list! I’ve included some fantastic bargains, as well as a couple of more expensive items – well it is a ‘wish list’ after all! I hope you like!

  • Kitty High Top Sneakers from ShopJeen
  • Rib Cage Cuff 70mm from Cooee
  • Chiara Ferragni Glitter Pop ‘n Dog Slip-On Sneaker from Nasty Gal
  • Skinnydip Pineapple Juice Across Body Bag from ASOS
  • Cropped Stretch Cotton Trousers from Esprit
  • Geo Transparent Strap Watch from ASOS
  • Blue Tropical Print Ruch Side Mini Skirt from New Look
  • IRO Ashville Jacket in Coral from Trilogy Stores
  • Only Child Kaleido Crystal Ring from ASOS
  • Far Out Tie Dye Halter Top from ShopJeen

If you can recommend any other stores for similar goodies that I might like, please do leave me a comment and let me know!

Clarins Autumn Makeup Collection

Posted on July 22, 2015

Hi Guys!

It’s no secret that I’m a massive fan of Clarins’ makeup (and I may have just bought some more products too, oops!) It feels like we’ve barely seen the sun this year, but already there are whispers of Autumn / Winter on the fashion and beauty scene, and now the Clarins Autumn Collection has literally just landed on my doorstep!

As much as I love the summer, there’s always something really appealing about fall makeup to me (can I say fall? I know I’m in the UK but it just feels right to say that!) I love the darker hues, the more intense shades and the fact that makeup suddenly feels a bit more sophisticated after the brighter shades of summer.

Here’s a bit more info about the collection –

This season Clarins indulges you in this seductive colour collection allowing you to create a natural look using soft beige and fresh pink shades for daytime or a sultry, intense evening look using smoky purples and mesmerising carbon black. A collection that focuses on the eyes, allowing you to naturally emphasise and highlight, effortlessly transforming you from day to night.

First up is the Limited Edition Pretty Day 5-Colour Eyeshadow Palette (£33.00)

I love a palette – and especially if it’s the right size to fit in my makeup bag! This super pretty palette is definitely the stand out item in this collection for me. It consists of five wearable matte and shimmer finish eye shadows contained in a high-shine gold case. The size of the palette is just perfect for travel and the shades offer a beautiful selection including beige, pink, shimmering taupe, as well as matte and shimmering warm browns. The shadows are all super soft and finely milled, and just perfect for a natural daytime look.

Next is the Ombre Matte single eyshadow (£19.00)

My first experience with Clarins’ Ombre Single Eyeshadows was from their Limited Edition Aquatic Collection, this is the first Matte shade I’ve tried though and it’s just beautiful! 08 Heather is brand new to the Ombre collection, it has a gorgeous cream-to-powder formula that offers the comfort and smoothing effect of a cream with the fine quality and hold of a powder. This silky, lightweight eye shadow is a dream to apply resulting in a quick, easy and flawless look. The two new Ombre shades include 07 Carbon and 08 Heather.

Next is the Eyebrow Pencil in 02 Light Brown (£17.00)

Brows are not, and have never been my thing. So any product that makes them look better with minimal effort will always be a winner in my books! This Eyebrow Pencil has a really nice firm texture for precision application, as well a a spoolie brush at the other end for taming any unruly brows. Clarins has also incorporated a new formula into this product, giving long-lasting colour for perfect brows all day long. Available in 01 Dark Brown, 02 Light Brown and 03 Soft Blonde.

And the Crayon Khôl Eyeliner Pencil in 01 Carbon Black (£17.00)

Now eyeliner definitely is my thing! I often use coloured eyeliner, but I’m always on the hunt for the perfect shade of black too. 01 Carbon Black is one of two new Crayon Kohl shades, and it really is the blackest of blacks! The formula of this pencil is just spot on, it’s soft and blendable whilst being firm enough to deliver accurate straight lines. Clarins has also included a natural hair brush at the other end of the pencil so you can smudge and blend to your heart’s desire! Available in 01 Carbon Black and 10 True Violet.

And lastly the Rouge Eclat Lipstick in 22 Red Paprika (£19.50)

The Autumn Collection also brings with it two new shades of Rouge Eclat lipstick in 21 Tawny Rose and 22 Red Paprika. Red Paprika is a beautiful burnt orange red shade, with a sightly sheer finish. I love that the Rouge Eclat lipsticks offer skincare benefits as well as colour, by protecting lips and visibly minimizing fine lines. The Nutri-Youth Complex protects lips against dehydration and boosts collagen, Vitamin E protects against free radicals and 100% plant waxes including mimosa, jojoba and sunflower provide instant comfort. This lipstick is super creamy and comfortable to wear – my dry lips just love it!

The Clarins Autumn Makeup collection will be available to purchase from August at Clarins.

ColourPop Lippie Stix – Worth The Hype?

Posted on July 21, 2015

Hi Guys!

Ever the one to covet beauty goodies that are impossible to get hold of, as soon as I heard about ColourPop Cosmetics, I had to get hold of some of their products! And I say they’re pretty much impossible to get hold of, because they’re currently only available in the US…

If the brand ColourPop means nothing to you, they’re a new cosmetic brand launched only last year, based in LA. This is their ethos –

We take the phrase “if you can dream it, you can do it” to a whole new level and specialize in making killer makeup in every shade imaginable at prices everyone can afford. We think that whole barrier between fancy and affordable is absolute nonsense. That’s why all of our products have luxury formulas at prices that won’t break the bank.

So what’s so special about ColourPop? Well, the most obvious thing is their price point – with $5.00 (£3.20) for a lipstick or eyeshadow, and $8.00 (£5.12) for a highlighter, blush or bronzer, you’d be crazy not to pick some of these products up, given the opportunity.

So what’s the catch? We’ll the catch is that ColourPop makeup is only available in the US, which in itself isn’t the end of the world (hello, Sephora) but… they only ship within the US too. They only offer international shipping to Australia and New Zealand – SAD FACE! (Don’t worry though, I’ll tell you how you can get hold of these beauties at the end of the post)

So I have three of their Matte Lippie Stix – which I actually bought these from someone selling them in my #Bbloggers Beauty Swaps and Sales Facebook group!

From left to right the shades are –

  • Pinch – A light pinky beige with a matte finish.
  • Brink – A warm dusty taupe with a matte finish. Curated by Brittany Suleiman. Inspired by the insta-famous Kylie lip.
  • Lumiere – A dusty mauve pink with a matte finish created by the lovely Kathleen Lights – “I wanted a color that both bold and shy people could wear. It’s not a would look great on EVERYONE!

Pinch, Brink and Lumiere are three mid toned nude shades, with Pinch having a brown / beige base, Brink having coral and Lumiere having mauve. I actually love all three shades but now I’ve tried them I know Pinch doesn’t look that great on my pale skin tone. Lumiere is definitely my favourite!

All three shades have a matte finish, but they apply really creamy, and have fantastic pigmentation. As with any matte lipstick, the formula can still be drying on the lips, but I find as long as I make sure my lips are moisturised and in good condition before applying, there’s no problem at all. Considering these lipsticks are boxed, and have decent (i.e. not cheap looking) plastic packaging, I really am beyond impressed!

I should also mention that ColourPop have an absolutely massive range of shades available, in their Lippie Sticks, matching Lippie Pencils and eyeshadows too. I may just plan a big order soon 😀

So are you tempted yet!? If you are and you fancy trying some of these gorgeous products out for yourself, there is a sneaky way you can get them shipped to the UK. If you go to mymallbox and sign up, they’ll assign you with your very own US postal address – which is actually a mail box address at their warehouse. They then forward your package on to you. Easy! Prices vary depending on how much you spend and the weight of your parcel, and of course there’s the possibility you could receive customs charges too which you should be aware of. Either way, ColourPop products are so cheap, in my opinion it’s definitely worth it, and I know a few people that have already used this service so I know it definitely works!

I’d love to hear what you think of these Lippie Stix? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
