Hi, I’m Heidi, proud author of Chronic Beauty blog. I’m an ex Beauty Therapist and Aromatherapist in my 40’s, ‘ex’ as I sadly had to give up work due to chronic pain illness several years ago. My passion for beauty and helping others never went away and, as I missed my work so much,

I decided to write my blog. I try to use my experience and knowledge of both beauty and chronic pain to post product reviews, info and tips. It’s given me something to focus on and enjoy, whilst fighting chronic illness. I do find it hard sometimes due to pain and fatigue but have such a passion for beauty products and treatments, especially natural focused ones so, I hope it helps those who visit my blog and share my journey with me.

Do pop by, relax and enjoy!

Hi everyone, I’m Cherry (as in the fruit!) and I run www.cherrypieblog.com. What started out as a platform for displaying my writing portfolio quickly snowballed into a music blog and then out of nowhere – a beauty blog. You’ll find lots of reviews of purse-friendly products as well as the odd fashion and lifestyle post thrown in.

New in from Clinique – What’s Your Line?

clinique-whats-your-line-collection

Hi Guys!

Now you know I’m all about the eye makeup. So when I heard about Clinique’s new (or actually, not quite so new now) What’s Your Line? range, I had to find out what all the fuss was about.

What’s Your Line? is a new collection of eye products, including the fantastic new Skinny Stick – a super slimline eyeliner pencil, a Pretty Easy Eyeliner pen, and a Chubby Lash Mascara.

clinique-whats-your-line-products

clinique-chubby-lash-mascara

Ok, so let’s take a look at the Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara £17.50.

This is a super chunkily packaged mascara – to fit with the ever popular ‘Chubby’ theme which we all know and love Clinique for. The brush on this mascara is rather curious though… it’s pretty large, yet has very short, densely packed bustles. My instant thought was I’m either going to love it or I’m going to hate it. I have short and fine eyelashes, so choosing a mascara that works well for me can often be problematic. Well I can happily say that I love this mascara! Though the wand is large, the short bristles mean I can easily coat my lashes with pretty much one application. I like to go as bold as I can when it comes to lashes though, so I find two coats works well. The formula is fantastic, as well as being really well pigmented. This definitely does the job for me!

clinique-pretty-easy-eyeliner

Next is the Pretty Easy Liquid Eyelining Pen £19.00.

This super fine eyeliner pen is perfect for creating precise, clean lines with one steady sweep. As far as liquid eyeliners go, I definitely prefer pens to brushes, as I find them a lot easier and quicker to work with. The ‘Pretty Easy’ eyeliner pen really does do what it says on the tin. The tapered nib has a super fine yet flexible point which works amazingly well when creating a beautiful cat-eye flick. The formula is also 24-hour smudge and budge-resistant. This is definitely one of the best eyeliner pens I’ve tried so far.

clinique-skinny-stick

Next is the Clinique Skinny Stick in Silver Black, £15.00.

Now I’m liking the look of this! This is easily one of the thinnest eyeliner pencils I’ve ever seen, in a twist up style so you don’t need to worry about breakage. If, like me, you can’t live without eyeliner, but you’d like a more natural look, the Skinny Stick is perfect for creating the finest line along the lash line, for a natural yet pretty no-makeup look. I have super fine and pretty sparse eyelashes, so this is wonderful for when I want a lighter look for day time. The colour Silver Black isn’t the darkest shade of black – which could either be a good or a bad thing depending how you look at it. But it is a really wearable shade, with tiny silver sparkles. There are also eleven more shades in the range, including a deeper black without any sparkle, so there should be a colour there to suit everyone.

clinique-Just-Browsing-Brush-On-Styling-Mousse

And lastly, I also have the Just Browsing Brush-On Styling Mousse £16.00.

Out of all of my facial features, I find my brows to be the most problematic when it comes to applying makeup. They always look wonky, or uneven or just not right in some way. This Just Browsing Brush On Styling Mousse – though the wrong colour for me – is fantastic for a brow novice like me. It tints, tames any stray hairs and fills in any sparse areas with a quick swipe of the brush. The mousse also has a 24 hour long wearing formula that’s resistant to smudging, sweating and humidity. So you don’t need to worry about your brows wearing off throughout the day!

Overall I’m really impressed with this collection of eye products. I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any of these?

MAC X Charlotte Olympia for Spring 2016

Posted on September 29, 2015

mac charlotte olympia

Hi Guys!

I’ve just heard probably the most exciting news this side of Christmas… MAC has just announced it’s latest collection will be with the one and only Charlotte Olympia next spring!

The British luxury shoe and accessory brand is probably most well known for it’s stunningly glamorous shoes, as well as their fun yet chic ‘Kitty’ cat face shoes and accessories.

Charlotte says – “The inspiration for the collection comes from my love of a bygone era that manifests itself in my day-to-day beauty look as well as featuring my design aesthetic,” The designer, who’s often caught sporting cat-eyed sunglasses and 1940s curls, added, “I have always enjoyed the ritual of dressing up and wanted to unleash my inner movie star!”

Ok so I’m predicting old Hollywood glamour here. Red lips, a flawless complexion, black cat eye eyeliner… I am SO excited about this collection, I can’t wait to see what’s going to be included! Also, I’ve been lusting after Charlotte Olympia shoes ever since I first heard of the brand – I need to get my hands on some Kitty Flats!

As soon as I find out more about the products I’ll let you guys know!

Tanya Burr Cosmetics Get A Fresh New Look

tanya-burr-cosmetics-review

Hi Guys!

It’s been well over a year now since Tanya Burr released her first makeup line – which I believe started with just lip glosses, nail polishes and lashes. Now forward on a year and the whole range has been re-vamped and re-packaged to give it a fresh new look, as well as having a few new additions thrown in the mix too. These include a selection of eye and brow palettes, as well as Christmas gift sets.

There was nothing wrong with the previous packaging at all, but the un-nescessary cardboard backing on the lip glosses and black gloss lids have now been replaced with chic high-shine gold lids, and the whole range has been given a new lease of life with metallic finishes, candy stripes, pretty pastel colours, and metallic gold accents.

First up we have a couple of the new look Lip Glosses in Picnic in the Park, and Afternoon Tea, £5.99 each. I already have Afternoon tea which is a lovely shade – you can see what the original packaging looks like here. I’m really impressed with the re-vamped lip glosses especially. Even though the formulas are still the same across the range, they now look more sophisticated and definitely like they should belong in a higher price bracket than they are. I should also point out here that all the prices have stayed the same throughout the range.

Next is the new Perfect Brows Set, £6.99. This is really nice little set, with everything you need for prefect brows. It contains three powder shades for eyebrows and one highlighter, as well as a mini application brush and tweezers. (Just to note my picture has come out pretty dark, the shades aren’t as dark as they look here!)

tanya-burr-nail-polish-review

Next is the Nail Polish in Fairy Godmother, £4.99. I loved the previous nail polishes I’ve tried from Tanya’s collection, and this is no exception. The new packaging looks fantastic, and the shade range includes a beautiful selection of pastels, with a couple of darker colours that are perfect for Autumn.

And lastly, the Date Night False Lashes, £5.99. I’m a big fan of false lashes for a night out, and though I’d usually go for a fuller set, these look really pretty and perfect for a more natural look. I’m hoping to try these out later this week when I take my other half out for a date!

Tanya Burr Cosmetics are available now from Superdrug.

I’d love to hear what you think – will you be snapping any of these products up?

Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom Cologne

Posted on September 27, 2015

jo-malone-mimosa-and-caramom-review

Hi Guys!

In my opinion, Jo Malone’s latest fragrance is easily one of their best yet. I’ve been a big fan of Jo Malone ever since I first discovered her beautiful scents a few years ago, and I haven’t looked back since! (You can see a couple of my other favourite Jo Malone fragrances in this post if you’re interested)

So, let’s take a look at the brand new Mimosa & Cardamom Cologne. This is a gorgeous oriental fragrance, with honeyed, golden mimosa coupled with the spiciness of freshly crushed cardamom. Creamy tonka and smooth sandalwood woven under powdery heliotrope and Damask rose picked at dawn. Warm, ethereal, mesmerising.

I must be honest with you and let you know that I’m struggling to describe this scent – the above description is taken from the site. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever tried before. You could usually say ‘it reminds me of…’ or ‘it’s a bit like…’ but I really have nothing I can compare this to. And that’s what I love about Jo Malone fragrances, they’re so unique an individual. A great example being Wood Sage & Sea Salt. You’ll just have to give it a go yourself to see what you think!

What I can say though, is it’s very seasonal, very Autumnal, comforting and warming. It reminds me of a chilly autumn day, where you’re watching the leaves fall from the trees from the warmth of your house. It’s like a cuddle in a warm blanket, but chic!

jo-malone-mimosa-and-caramom-fragrance-review

If you’re a Jo Malone fan, you’ll know you can also layer their scents to create brand new fragrances. Jo Malone advises that Mimosa & Cardamom adds touches of spice to English Pear & Freesia, and gives Red Roses an unfolding warmth… I definitely want to try layering these up!

I highly recommend checking this collection out if you can, you won’t be disappointed! There’s also a Body and Hand Wash, Body Creme and Home Candle in this range – I think I need the candle too!

Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom Cologne is £42 for 30ml, and available now from House of Fraser.

The Weekly Top 5 #18

Posted on September 23, 2015

the-weekly-top-5-no-18_edited-1

Hi Guys!

Ok, I know this is technically my Sunday post that’s kind of a bit late (well three days late) but my excuse is that things have been really hectic over the past few weeks, so I’m playing catch up with everything at the moment. If only there were about six more hours in the day I’d be happy!

Well not much has been going on for me lately except work really! Fred has finally settled into school now, which is a relief. I hated leaving him there upset for the first few days. And in other news I’m off to London tomorrow for some meetings and an event, yay! I’m also hoping to plan a weekend away for the family before Christmas, so if you can recommend anywhere family friendly for me please do let me know!

Here’s this last weeks top 5 –

Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Creme (£47.00) – it’s been quite a while since I’ve tried anything from Ole Henriksen, so I was excited when Escentual asked if I fancied trying their new Invigorating Night Creme out. This luxuriously thick cream promises to re-texturise and renew your complexion overnight by balancing and brightening your skin while you sleep. The formula includes glycolic, lactic and fruit acids to deeply penetrate the epidermis, encouraging cell renewal to reveal smoother skin. As well as their Fruit Acid Complex, which is a concentrated cocktail of bilberry, sugar cane, sugar maple, orange and lemon to lightly exfoliate the skin’s surface, breaking down the bonds of dead skin cells and boosting elasticity of the skin’s surface. This Night Creme is super hydrating, and as expected it smells gorgeous too. Since I’ve started using it I’ve been waking up with fresh feeling skin every morning 🙂

Rocket Dog Stassi Saloon Boots (£59.99) – I LOVE ankle boots for Autumn, and these Stassi Boots from Rocket Dog just fit the bill for me. They’re in a pull on style, with tassel detailing on the sides and a mid-height western heel. They’re really comfortable – as I can’t actually walk in heels higher than this – and can easily be dressed up or down.

Sleek Creme To Powder Blush in Pink Peony (£5.99) – I love creme blushers, and this new offering from Sleek (one of my favourite drugstore brands) is no exception. The creme to powder formula is a beauty to blend out, whilst giving a really pretty satin finish. Pink Peony could be described as a slightly scary shade, just because it looks so intense in the pan. In reality though, with a light hand this gives a beautiful flush of colour that’s perfect to brighten any complexion for the cold season.

Arquiste – The Architect’s Club Fragrance (£135.00) – Ok I know it’s crazy expensive, but this perfume is just beautiful. I’ve just received my mini sample as part of Bloom Perfumery’s fragrance sample subscription and this is definitely one of my favourite fragrances I’ve received so far. With notes of juniper, oakwood, bigrade orange, lemon peel, amber, vanilla, angelica root and gaiac wood, this is an intense, unusual and beautiful seasonal scent.

This weeks TV of choice isn’t actually on Netflix surprisingly. The Following, on freeview channel Pick was kindly recorded for me by my other half, without me knowing. He thought it was my type of thing, and he was spot on! The Following, stars Kevin Bacon as Ryan Harding, an agent with the job of chasing down a psychotic serial-killer’s cult following. It’s a fantastic series!

In case you missed it – this little beauty is still up for grabs! This is a customised palette by Neve Cosmetics, made by yours truly. You’ll be amazed at the swatches too. Take a look and enter the giveaway here.

Current covets –

This is a new section I’ve decided to add to my weekly post, just to let you know which products I’m currently lusting after. This week I’ve had my eye on the Tom Ford Skin Illuminating Powder Duo. At £68.00 it’s definitely on the expensive side, and unfortunately I can’t justify buying it at the moment – boo! Take a look at some swatches online though and you’ll see how pretty it is!

Other things worth mentioning – And lastly, if you have a moment please take the time to check out the video below, yes it’s an advert, but it has a really important message that I think will resonate with most of us.

My Autumn Fashion Wishlist

Posted on September 22, 2015

autumn fashion wishlist

Hi Guys!

Did you know Autumn is officially upon us as of tomorrow? (according to Google anyway) It’s suddenly turned super cold here, resulting in me living in jogging bottoms, my other half’s chunky socks and my red blanket – what a great look hey!

Because of the sudden cold turn in the weather, I’ve also been considering what to update in my wardrobe. On one hand I want to wait till I’ve lost more weight before buying anything new, but on the other hand I love A/W fashion and I JUST WANT TO BUY ALL THE THINGS!

So, out with my beloved yet flimsy (only because they’re made of fabric) Schuh flats I’ve been loving all summer, and in with some sturdy shoes and boots I think! I also really want to get a cape or a wrap of some sort. I’m not sure which though yet, but I think worn right they can look really smart and chic.

Sticking with a seasonal palette of browns, greys and neutrals – with some gold jewellery of course, I’ve put together my top Autumn picks from some of my favourite fashion stores –

  1. Avelon Skinny Fit Trousers from Farfetch
  2. Chronicle Ring Set from Nasty Gal
  3. Givenchy Three Row Bracelet from Selfridges
  4. Vivien Westwood Primrose Zip Tote Bag from Daniel Footwear
  5. Moschino Bear Earrings from Selfridges
  6. Label Lab Lightweight Side Split Dress from House of Fraser
  7. Roll Neck Poncho from Esprit
  8. Matisse Nugent Ponyhair Ankle Boot from Nasty Gal

I’d love to hear if any of these take your fancy?

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
