I’d heard fairly mixed reviews about NARS’ latest release – their Velvet Mate Skin Tint, but as I’m a bit of a sucker for NARS products I couldn’t wait to try it out for myself to find out if it really was any good…
So NARS’ Velvet Matte Skin Tint is basically a lightweight foundation, offering light, natural looking ‘second-skin’ coverage, whilst evening out and brightening the complexion. It has an oil-free formula which includes SPF 30, and it promises to blur imperfections, smooth the appearance of pores and fine lines, and control shine throughout the day whilst giving a soft matte finish.
I really like to mix things up with my base, depending on what I’m doing that day and what look I’m going for. I love a light coverage foundation or tinted moisturiser for day to day use when I’m not really up to much, and I prefer a heavier finish for evening or if my skin is looking particularly under the weather. My complexion can also often look a bit dull and uneven, so if I can rectify this with a quick application with fingers then I’m a happy bunny – and I’m hoping the Velvet Matte Skin Tint will be just the answer for quick application on a day to day basis.
The shade I have is Groenland – this is one of the lighter shades in the range (though not the lightest) and it has a slight pink undertone. I’m lucky that my complexion is pretty neutral, so I can usually get away with either warm or cool toned foundations – I often go slightly warm to warm up my complexion though, so I’m hoping this shade will be spot on for me.
On application, I thought that Groenland might be slightly too warm for me, you can see on my hand swatch below, but luckily the formula is light, so once I’d blended into the skin this wasn’t actually a problem. Also, as my skin tends to be on the dry side I usually stay away from matte finishes, just because matte foundations will often emphasise dry areas. I’m happy to report back that even though this product was matte, I didn’t have any problems with it. I’d say its not a true ‘flat’ matte, definitely more of a ‘real skin’ matte that looked super natural. I made sure my face was well moisturised before application (to be on the safe side) and had no problems with my dry areas at all.
I also just want to emphasise that this won’t give amazing coverage – so if that’s what you’re looking for then you’re barking up the wrong tree here! The Velvet Matte Skin Tint is all about a natural, true-to-life skin finish, which is perfect for evening out skin tone, giving a naturally flawless look. It did a good job of blurring the appearance of my pores too, and over all I’m really impressed with this product, I’d definitely recommend it for those looking for a day to day base that gives light coverage.
I’d love to hear if you have a favourite foundation? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
