Fragrance: Jo Malone English Oak & Redcurrant

Hi Guys!

This Autumn, Jo Malone whisks us away to the depths of a magical forest to bring us their brand new English Oak collection. The inspiration behind the collection comes from the iconic English oak tree, a powerful and noble symbol which lies deep in the heart of the English woodland. Think Sherwood Forest, wandering knights and outlaws, mystery and enchantment…

Surrender to the spell… The magic of the forest. Climb. Dream. Drift. Wander through emerald moss carpets. Ripe redcurrants, ready to be picked. Succumb to the scent of the fabled oak. Noble. Wise. Infused into two spellbinding scents. English Oak & Redcurrant. Bright. Embracing. Bewitching. English Oak & Hazelnut. Earthy. Enticing. Enchanting.

The English Oak collection comprises of two fragrances – the original concept, English Oak & Hazelnut, which is spicy and woody, using green hazelnut to create a greener, aromatic feel with a spicy spin, its mossy notes also help to reinforce the natural scent of the forest. While the second fragrance, English Oak & Redcurrant is a much rounder and juicier scent, with notes of rose, amber and white musk.

The main note in the collection is of course is oak, but more specifically Roasted Oak Absolute. I was interested to find out that oak wood itself isn’t widely used in perfumery – you’d usually find other woody notes such as Sandalwood or Cedarwood at the base of a fragrance, but Jo Malone actually created their own process of roasting washed wood chips at high temperatures to exclusively create Roasted Oak Absolute – this technique gave the note a a rich, deep and smoky-sweet element, resulting in a warm and enveloping base for the collection with a fairytale-like quality, perfectly capturing the magic of the English forest.

I have English Oak and Redcurrant, which is just as gorgeous as you’d expect. It’s quite an unusual scent, yet very wearable and very ‘Jo Malone’ The Redcurrant and Rose notes instantly hit you giving a juicy yet floral opening, and the scent soon dries down to a warm, sweet base of Roasted Oak Absolute.

English Oak & Redcurrant

  • Top Note: Redcurrant – An intensely fruity note with a tangy, juicy clarity which brings a sparkling contrast to the oak woodiness in the fragrance.
  • Heart Note: Rose – As the fragrance unfurls, this opulent floral, with its spicy, honey facets wraps the scent with sumptuous texture.
  • Base Note: Roasted Oak Absolute – A warm and compelling woody note that gives the addictive quality of roasted oak.

English Oak & Hazelnut

  • Top: Green Hazelnut – A green note that induces a fresh and nutty feeling in the fragrance.
  • Heart: Cedarwood – Its woody, dry character complements the heart with charismatic intensity.
  • Base: Roasted Oak Absolute

For fragrance combining, Jo Malone recommends layering English Oak & Hazelnut with Basil & Neroli for a lively, citrus fragrance, or try English Oak & Redcurrant with Blackberry & Bay for a truly fruity combination. You can also always combine both English Oak fragrances together for a fresh, spicy scent highlighted with a bright and juicy twist.

The collection contains a range of products, including Cologne in 30ml (£44.00) and 100ml (£88.00) as well as Body & Hand Wash (£30.00), Body Crème (£52.00) and a Home Candle (£44.00)
