Fragrance: Shay & Blue Black Tulip EDP

Posted on January 31, 2018

Hi Guys!

I have the latest offering from niche fragrance brand, Shay & blue to share with you today. I only had my first experience Shay & Blue fairly recently, when I visited their beautiful Mayfair Flagship Store last Autumn, and I was absolutely blown away by their fragrances! I left with my two favourites at the time, which were Salted Caramal and Blood Oranges (you can read my full write up here)

Shay & Blue have now added a brand new fragrance to their collection for 2018 – Black Tulip. I must admit I wasn’t too sure what to expect from this scent, but I was more than pleasantly surprised to find that Black Tulip is absolutely beautiful! The fragrance is described as a modern floral, but it’s really so much more than that. It has the most wonderful combination of white florals, juicy fruits, smooth woods and delicious creamy white chocolate. I honesty don’t think I’ve tried another fragrance like this before.

Black Tulip is most definitely a unique modern floral scent. It opens with notes of Snowdrops and Cyclamen offering an inviting hit of crisp floral freshness, leading to a juicy heart of Plum with intense and velvety Black Tulip. The base rounds the fragrance off beautifully with warming notes of deliciously creamy vanilla White Chocolate and Soft Woods.

To me this is very much a wintery scent, that’s both elegant and refined, yet offers a cosy warmth – it makes me think of evenings by the fire, snuggling in cosy soft blankets and long winter walks. The freshness of at the top of Black Tulip is perfectly counterpinned by the warming and indulgent base, give a fantastic new statement floral EDP. This is just a beautiful scent all round, and in my opinion a must try!

  • Top NotesSnowdrops and Cyclamen.
  • Heart Notes: Black Tulip and Plum.
  • Base Notes: White Chocolate and Soft Woods.

Black Tulip is very reasonably priced at £55.00 for 100ml and available now at Shay & Blue.

Fragrance: Penhaligon’s The Ruthless Countess Dorothea EDP

Posted on January 18, 2018

Hi Guys!

The latest addition to Penhaligon’s wonderful Portrait Collection has been sitting in my ‘to try’ box at TSNC HQ for a good few weeks now, and I thought it was about time I gave it a go – Penhaligon’s is one of my favourite niche fragrance brands, and I know if this is anything like the rest of the Portraits collection, I’ll absolutely love it! Let’s take a look at the fragrance…

So to start with, if you’re not familiar with the Portraits Collection, it’s a range of fragrances based on characters from the British aristocracy. Each fragrance represents and character, and each character comes with a whole backstory to their personality and life. (You can see my write up for the last Portraits launch, Clandestine Clara here)

Penhaligon’s have recently added four new fragrances to the range, (two male and two female) of which I have The Ruthless Countess Dorothea – I love how dramatic this sounds! Dorothea is described as a most ferocious matriarch, known for her sharp mind, even sharper wit and a secret fondness for the company of younger men – Dorothea also has an illegitimate son, she’s a scandalous character fond of alcohol, love affairs and ambiguous behaviour – and I think I’d really like to be friends with her!! I predict this scent is going to be a bit racy!

Well, the fragrance is just stunning, as expected – it’s incredibly warm and comforting, and it lingers all day after only one spray in the morning. I guess I expected something quite strong, overpowering even, but it’s actually very wearable, yet still noticeable – my husband said ‘ooh what’s that perfume you’re wearing, I like it!’ – it’s also subtly intoxicating and alluring. This is easily now my new favourite scent from Penhaligon’s and if you’re fans of the Portraits range, this really is a must try. This is fragrance definitely not to be missed!

  • Top Notes: Bergamot, Ginger and Chinese Cinnamon Wood.
  • Heart Notes: Red Ginger Oil, Beeswax, Clary Sage and Mate.
  • Base Notes: Sherry-Cashmeran, Vanilla and White Wine.

The Ruthless Countess Dorothea EDP is available at Penhaligon”s and Jarrold now.

This perfume opens with top notes of Nashi Pear, Blackcurrant and Green Ivy, with a floral heart of Pink Lily of the Valley, Magnolia and Jasmine. The dry down is sweet and elegant, with notes of White Amber, Cashmere Woods, Raspberry Gloss.

Fragrance: Nejma Le Sublime EDP

Posted on November 8, 2017

Hi Guys!

I’m back again today with a gorgeous brand new niche fragrance to share with you – Nejma Le Sublime, which is a beautifully delicate floral scent, perfect for treating yourself to, or a loved one for Christmas 😉

If you’re not familiar with the brand, Nejma (which means the good star or lucky star) was created by Marie Lise Bischoff. During a journey to the Far East, Bischoff attended a reading of an Oriental fairy tale and fell under the spell of Nejma, who would then become her muse and inspire her to create a new line of perfumes.

Nejma is a charming and radiant with amazing beauty, and one day The Vizire visits her city and they totally fell in love. But she isn’t a Princess, so after a lot of fights between both families, they finally get married. From their love story, seven girls were born, and this is the story of how the original seven Nejma fragrances were created; a mix of different spices that each have in common the precious and warm scent of Aoud, giving Nejma its signature charm.

Nejma fragrances are created with diverse ingredients from distant countries, each mixed with Aoud, and Bischoff describes her fragrances as being very rich, exclusive, modern, sensual and powerful… giving you the opportunity to create your own fragrance signature, recreate a memory or to just feel desirable…

I have Le Sublime from the Nejma Private Collection – Le Sublime is a beautifully delicate fragrance, with a comforting, warming aroma that feels like a close embrace with a loved one. I think this is just the perfect scent to wear this time of year, it’s sweet and feminine, but not overly so, and lingers on the skin for hours.

Le Sublime opens with notes of fresh, juicy fruits, including Bergamot, Grapefruit and Passionfruit, leading to a bouquet of precious flowers – Orange Blossom, Jasmine and Rose blend together beautifully to give this scent a soft floral heart. The base of sweet Brown Sugar, Caramel and Dark Chocolate mixed with woody Patchouli and Cedar round the scent off in a warming and sophisticated trail.

  • Top Notes : Yellow Mandarin Bergamot, Pink Grapefruit and Passion Fruit.
  • Heart Notes : Orange Blossom Absolute, Grandiflorum Jasmine, Damascena Rose and Magnolia.
  • Base Notes : Virginia Cedar, Brown Sugar, Patchouli and Dark Chocolate.

Nejma Le Sublime is available now now at Harvey Nichols and Jovoy Paris.

Fragrance: Marc Jacobs 10th Anniversary Limited Edition Daisy White EDT

Posted on September 27, 2017

Hi Guys!

A white ago I was very excited to receive an amazing PR package, containing a beautiful Marc Jacobs limited edition fragrance, as well as an amazing pair of Marc Jacobs sliders – what a fantastic surprise!

The new Marc Jacobs Daisy Limited Edition fragrance has been created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the classic Daisy fragrance – from way back in 2007 when it originally launched, Daisy has come back time and time again with new flankers, from Daisy Dream, to the newer Daisy Kiss range, the fragrance is always beautiful and wearable…

This year, Marc Jacobs are celebrating 10 years of their award-winning Daisy fragrance with a limited edition white bottle containing the same original signature scent, in Daisy’s classic bottle with all white packaging. The glass has a shiny white finish with gold metallic logo to complement its oversized white and gold cap.

“A daisy is a friendly flower, not precious, not exotic, but it evokes a spirit in a lot of women.”
– Marc Jacobs

Daisy Marc Jacobs is the same classic, pure fragrance that’s charmingly simple with a signature quality. It transports you to a place that is optimistic, beautiful, and pure. The scent embodies the essence of the daisy girl who wears it: timeless, yet young-at-heart. She is a reminder to be open, loving, and playful while radiating positive energy. The bottle is the embodiment of sophistication and vintage charm. Inspired by its name, the daisy flower is turned into a whimsical bottle shape. The weighted block of clear glass with soft, rounded edges is classic and luxurious, while the scattering of daisies blooming from the rounded gold metal hardware creates an unexpected, retro-cool twist.

The top of the fragrance opens with juicy wild berries and a floral note of soft white violets, leaving an irresistibly fresh and radiant scent on the skin. At the heart, an infusion of velvety jasmine wraps with each note, enhancing the vibrancy of the florals. A dreamy drydown of sandalwood imparts an aura of warmth and sensuality creating a delicate and romantic contrast within the fragrance.

  • Top Notes: Wild Berries, White Violet
  • Heart Notes: Jasmine Infusion
  • Base Notes: Sandalwood

If you’re a fan or collector of Marc Jacobs fragrances, this is definitely not one to miss! The Limited Edition Daisy White EDT is £78.00 for 100ml and available now at FeelUnique, The Perfume Shop and Fragrance Direct.
