Mother’s Day Luxury Gift Ideas

Posted on March 2, 2016

luxury-mothers-day-gift-guide

Hi Guys!

Following on from my earlier Kate Spade New York gift guide, I’ve also put together a few luxury gift ideas covering fragrance, makeup and skincare to hopefully give you some inspiration for Mother’s Day…

luxury-mothers-day-gift-guide-beauty

luxury-mothers-day-gift-guide-pug-vase

Firstly, how could you not love this little guy! This is ‘Stevix’ as named by Freddy (I asked him if he meant ‘Stephen’ and he said ‘NO, Stevix!’ Fair enough.) And he’s definitely the closest we’re going to get to an actual dog in our little house! Stevix, is of course a sweet little hand painted pug vase, with the cutest grumpy face I’ve ever seen. He costs £45.00 and you can find him at Joy the Store on their home and gifts page.

luxury-mothers-day-gift-guide-perfumes

And what would Mother’s day be without perfume? I often buy perfume for my Mum, and they’re always very well received. I’ve gathered a selection of lovely fragrances today including three very different scents to suit different tastes –

Starting with Les Cocottes de Paris – La Belle Otero. This beautiful fragrance would suit vintage lovers, history buffs, and of course fans of niche fragrances.

La Belle Otero is actually one of a trio of fragrances from Les Cocottes de Paris – which are based on the lives of a group of extraordinary Parisian women born in the 1800’s. Crowned the ‘Queens of Paris’, the Cocottes entertained, seduced, and made headlines across the city. These scandalous icons were the inspiration for this new range of fragrances.

La Belle Otero (1868 – 1965) – The singing, dancing, pleasure seeking Agustina Otero Iglesias was born in Spain but it was in Paris that she found fame and fortune as her alter ego La Belle Otero. She soon grew to be the most sought after women in Europe and devoted her life to dancing, men, precious stones, gambling and parties…..(sounds like my kinda gal!) It’s no surprise then that her fragrance is an invitation to misbehave! La Belle Ottero has top notes of Neroli, Pepper, Absinthe, Fig and Ginger, heart notes of Violet, Musk, Lavender and Narcissus, and base notes of Frankincense, Sandalwood and Iris.

Les Cocottes de Paris are priced at £80.00 for 100ml EDP, from Cologne & Cotton 0845 262 2212.

luxury-mothers-day-gift-guide-dsquared2

For a more modern fragrance I’d highly recommend Dsquared2 Want (£71.00 for 100ml) This oriental floral scent is inspired by ‘The Multi-faceted Modern Woman’. Think feminine, yet gentle and strong, she’s also glamorous but edgy, spontanious and dynamic yet resourceful. Want aims to capture the many sides of the female personality, mixing confident sensuality with glamour and fine tailoring.

Dsquared2 Want includes top notes of Mandarin, Ginger and Pink Pepper, heart notes of velvety Rose Damascena, Heliotrope and Nerolito, and base notes of warm Vanilla Madagascar, Absolute of Vanilla Accord and rich Violet Wood.

luxury-mothers-day-gift-guide-trussardi

And the last of the fragrances – Trussardi My Scent (£73.00 for 100ml) This is a beautifully crisp floral fragrance, it’s a very girly and delicate scent, yet slightly unusual, evoking the essence of femininity.

My Scent is described as young, dynamic, and cosmopolitan. I’d say she’s more fun, flirty and outgoing though, perfect for fans of lilac and florals, My Scent has top notes of Nashi Pear and Smiling Flowers Bouquet, heart notes of Lilac and Rose Buds, and base notes of Serenolide, Cashmeran and Heliotrope.

luxury-mothers-day-gift-guide-lipstick

Now on to beauty! A fancy lipstick will always be a hit on Mother’s Day, so why not treat your mum to a bit of Charlotte Tilbury? The lipstick I’ve included is the gorgeous Matte Revolution Miss Kensington shade from the limited edition Norman Parkinson collection. I’ve just found out this is no longer available but if you love this beautiful nude rose nude, Bitch Perfect (£23.00) is a fantastic alternative.

Moving on to skincare, I had to include Pestle & Mortar Hydrate (£38.00) – I’m a big fan of Pestle & Mortar’s first product, their Pure Hyaluronic Serum, and their new moisturiser is just as fantastic. Suitable for all skin types, this lightweight moisturiser is formulated with a mixture of patented peptides to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Naturally moisturising ingredients, including jojoba and squalane instantly make skin softer and firmer while powerful antioxidants including pomegranate, green tea and Vitamin E help fight free radicals.

luxury-mothers-day-gift-guide-transformulas

For fans of face oils, Pixi Rose Oil Blend (£26.00) is a must have. It’s a luxurious, ultra-nourishing oil that promises to rejuvenate, restore and renews skin’s luminosity. It’s also infused with powerful youth-preserving oils to help improve skin’s elasticity, including Sweet almond, rosehip, jojoba, pomegranate seed, and rose geranium oils nourish the complexion, leaving it comforted & smooth to the touch.

And for those on the hunt for the ultimate eye cream, Transformulas Marine Miracle EyeZone Cream (£41.95) is definitely worth checking out. Apart from looking pretty awesome with it’s futuristic spherical chrome packaging, the Marine Mircale EyeZone Cream also promises to restore the condition of skin tissue around eyes (and lips) by feeding it with powerful, age-defying and ultra-concentrated aldavine.

It’s worth noting that this powerful ingredient has been proven in 100% of tests to visibly reduce dark circles and eye puffiness. It also works on wrinkles and fine lines leaving the complexion smoother and more comfortable with improved resilience and elasticity.

For nail polish fans, how about the Eve Snow Nail Polish in Blossom (£14.00) – Eve Snow isn’t the biggest nail polish brand out there, but don’t overlook them because of this. The Beautiful Blossom nail polish is a subtle muted pink with a hint of lavender, it also contains nourishing Marula Oil, Equisetum Extract and Vitamin B12.

And lastly, I had to include my favourite ever makeup brushes, the Zoeva Rose Gold Vol.2 Luxury Brushes (£56.95) – these brushes not only look beautiful, but they also work fantastically well. I love that the range is massive, including individual brushes as well as sets – and I should probably mention there’s also now a stunning Rose Gold Luxury Set Vol.3 out too!

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Six Fab Beauty Products That Won’t Break The Bank…

Posted on January 31, 2016

boots-beauty-box

Hi Guys!

I was recently sent over a fantastic box of beauty products that are new in at Boots, and I had no idea what was going to turn up – which was very exciting. So when the box arrived it was great to find a mixture of brands, including one which I’ve never tried, and a couple that I haven’t tried for a good few years too…

Collection-#YourStyleYourMood-Eyeshadow-Palette

First up is the Collection #YourStyleYourMood Eyeshadow Palette (£5.99) – Now I haven’t used Collection products in a loooong time, I mean, the last time I remember using them was when they were called Collection 2000 and I was in my teens. So even though I’m not familiar with their current products, I know they’re still a popular budget brand, and they also used to be one of the go-to brands back in the day for teens where I live too!

This dinky little palette comes in a cardboard casing, with matte and shimmer shades. The idea is that whatever your mood the #YourStyleYourMood Palette allows you to create the perfect eye look to reflect your style – I’d say it includes a nice selection of neutral colours that would work well for day time or evening, but there’s nothing in there that’s too outrageous – which I would have expected by the #YourStyleYourMood name. Maybe one or two brighter colours would have been a nice addition?

Loreal-Paris-Super-Liner-Perfect-Slim-eyeliner

loreal-perfect-slim-eyeliner-pen

Next is the L’oreal Paris Super Liner Perfect Slim (£6.99) – Now you know I do love a good eyeliner, and my weapon of choice is always a pencil or a pen version, so this is is right up my street. This Perfect Slim liner has a long, flexible nib, with a very fine point. It gives a fantastic intense black line, that’s easy to draw and define due to the long pointed nib. This is a fantastic eyeliner for creating a sharp cat-eye flick.

Eyelure-Party-Lashes-Frozen-Beauty

Next we have the Eyelure Party Lashes in Frozen Beauty (£6.95) – I don’t often wear lashes except for the odd night out (and I don’t get out that often these days!) but when I have worn lashes, Eyelure are my brand of choice. This is just because lashes are expensive, and rather than waste £5+ per set on something that I might not like, I know I can trust Eyelure to do the job.

These Frozen Beauty lashes feature a fluffy and full lash, interspersed with shimmering silver ribbon that catches the light beautifully. I love that Eyelure lashes are easy to apply and remove, and if you’re careful you can re-use them multiple times too.

Barry-M-Flawless-Chisel-Cheeks-Contour-Kit

Up next is the Barry M Flawless Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit (£6.49) – I’m so glad this was included in the box! I’ve been meaning to pick up a budget contour kit for ages, just out of curiosity as I always use my Anastasia palette and hadn’t tried any budget versions as yet.

The Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit is a handy little travel-sized palette, including a light powder to highlight, a bronzer to warm, and a dark powder to sculpt for a perfectly enhanced appearance. The shades are not too dark or intense – so perfect for those with paler complexions like myself, and the product can also be built up easily, so it would still work well if you were looking for a bit more depth of colour.

Sleek-Makeup-Precious-Metals-Highlighting-Palette

Next is the Sleek Makeup Precious Metals Highlighting Palette (£9.99) – I love Sleek Cosmetics, they’re one of my favourite, if not my actual favourite budget high street brand. They also keep coming up with gorgeous new products!

The Precious Metals Highlighting Palette is a fantastic versatile highlighting palette for use on both the face and body. It features three velvet cream highlighters and one powder highlighter which can be used in a multitude of ways to give skin a beautiful luminous glow.

These highlighters really do give the loveliest iridescent and metallic finishes, wether you’re looking for detailed highlight on the face, or an all-over body glow, this little kit will have the right highlight for you.

Nail-Apothecary-Gel-Effect-Top-Coat

And lastly, the Nail Apothecary Gel Effect Top Coat (£6.95) – Nail Apothecary is a brand new brand to me, that I hadn’t even heard of. They supply a range of nail care products, including various top coats, fillers and nail treatments. The Gel Effect Top Coat creates a plumping effect on the nails, giving a high shine, gel like look which is long lasting and chip resistant – a definite must have for fans of the DIY manicure!

boots-beauty-box-products

Well, I’m beyond impressed with this fab little selection of products, I haven’t used a couple of these brands for a while now and I’m so glad I’ve re-discovered them. I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any of these products?

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

Cohorted November Beauty Box | Review

Posted on November 11, 2015

cohorted-november-box-review

Hi Guys!

November’s Cohorted Box has just landed, and as expected, it’s full of fantastic beauty and skincare products…

  • Cargo Cosmetics The Essentials Eyeshadow Palette, worth £35.00.
  • Laura Mercier The Flawless Facebook Palette in Nude, worth £38.00.
  • Bare Minerals Instant Eye Reviver, worth £6.99.
  • Nails Inc polish in Chelsea Flower Show, worth £11.00.
  • Nails Inc polish in Colville Mews, worth £11.00.
  • Chloe Eau De Parfum for Her, 5ml vial, value n/a.

Total value of box – £101.99

cohorted-november-box

The Cargo palette is easily the stand out product here, and Cohorted seem to be quite the fan of Cargo as this is the third palette I’ve received in their boxes! Their eyeshadows are fantastic and I’m so glad I found their brand through Cohorted – I may not have discovered them otherwise!

The Essentials Eyeshadow palette contains muted neutral matte and shimmer shades, in variations of greys, browns and peaches. It’s influenced by the hues of urban architecture, and also contains a dual-ended eyeshadow brush. This has some great every day shades in it that are lovely to use and through previous experience I know they last all day. I think I’ll be getting a lot of use out of this palette!

The next palette is the Laura Mercier Flawless Facebook Palette, this contains a creme tinted moisturiser compact, a mineral pressed powder, two shades of secret camouflage, a secret concealer and a camouflage brush. This set would be perfect to throw in your makeup bag instead of carrying around a load of cover up products, or if you just want to travel light. My only issue with this set though would be that it’s not going to suit everyone’s skin tone.

I love Nails Inc polishes, and the two beauties included in this month’s box are no exception. Colville Mews is a lovely light nude beige shade – I love nude nails so I’m really happy with this. I think the other shade, Chelsea Flower Show is a bit of a ‘marmite’ colour, meaning some people will love it and some will not be so keen. Personally I think it’s great!

The Bareminerals Instant Eye Reviver is one of the most interesting products I’ve come across in a while. Firstly, the bottle felt empty, so I initially thought I may have received a dud. But nope, this little bottle actually contains a powder, with the strangest texture ever. You’re advised to pat the product under the eyes gently, and as soon as you touch it, it disappears and has almost a silicone primer feel on the skin. I don’t feel like this gives me instant results, but I’ll see if it makes any difference in time.

And lastly it was nice of Cohorted to throw in an extra sample, this time it was a 1.2ml vial of Chloe EDP, which is a lovely fresh floral fragrance.

Did you pick up November’s box? I’d love to hear if you have any of these products too!

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

Cohorted October Beauty Box | Review

Posted on October 29, 2015

cohorted-october-beauty-box

Hi Guys!

It’s time again for another Cohorted beauty box, this month there’s a fantastic selection of products covering makeup, skincare and nails –

  • bareMinerals Purifying Facial Cleanser, 60ml worth £5.08
  • bareMinerals Purely Nourishing Cream, 30ml worth £16.20
  • Peter Thomas Roth Lashes to Die For Mascara, worth £14.50
  • Ciate Paint Pot Nail Polish in Serendipity, worth £9.00
  • bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Ligloss in Hypnotist, worth £16.00

Total value of box – £60.78.

Ok so clearly this box is pretty bareMinerals heavy – I love bareMinerals products though so I don’t really mind!

bare-minerals-marvelous-moxie-gloss

Let’s take a look at the rather amazing Marvelous Moxie lip gloss from bareMinerals first. The shade is called Hypnotist, and it’s a highly iridescent gloss that changes colour depending how you look at it, much like an oil slick! It has a bright yellow base, which changes to pink and purple in the light. Now this shade is clearly not going to be for everyone, but with a light touch, this gives a lovely sheen to the lips and can be worn on its own or over lipstick.

There’s also a bareMinerals Purifying Facial Cleanser, and Purely Nourishing Cream in this month’s box. I really like bareMinerals skincare products, simply because they do the job, and they agree with my sensitive skin!

The Purely Nourishing Cream is specifically made for dry skin, so it’s perfect for my less than hydrated complexion. I imagine I’ll get a lot of use out of this in the coming winter months. It sinked into the skin really quickly and left my face feeling deeply nourished. This is a winner in my books!

The Purifying Facial Cleanser is a lightly scented daily cleanser that’s perfect for removing makeup and impurities from the skin. As expected, this does exactly what it’s supposed to, it’s a good little product that removes makeup and leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed.

ciate-paint-pot

The next product which caught my eye is the rather pretty Ciate Paint Pot in Serendipity. This is a beautifully fine rose pink coloured glitter that’s suspended in a clear base. This would look gorgeous on top of a dark pink shade 🙂

And lastly, the Peter Thomas Roth Lashes to Die For The Mascara. Now this mascara, I like! It has a fairly short bristled rubber brush, which is perfect for my short lashes. I often find I manage to make a complete mess with larger brushes! This mascara is definitely better for volume than length, so don’t expect massively exaggerated lashes. It’s a great product for every day use though.

Overall I’m really pleased with this box! I’d love to hear if you picked up this month’s box, and what you thought of it?

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

The Perfect Products for Halloween Nails & Lips

Posted on October 27, 2015

beauty-products-perfect-for-halloween

Hi Guys!

Well Halloween is officially upon us, and luckily for me Fred has decided he wants to wear last year’s Spider Man outfit, so he’s sorted already! 🙂

For those of you not going for a full on blood and gore look this weekend, and are looking for something a bit more subtle, I thought I’d gather together a few beauty products together which would be the perfect addition to any halloween outfit…

morgan-taylor-rocky-horror-picture-show-set

First up we have the Morgan Taylor Rocky Horror Picture Show Mini Pack (£14.99)

This fab little set was created especially to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the greatest cult film and longest running theatrical release of all time – The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

This pack of four mini 5ml polishes contains three top selling Morgan Taylor colours as well as a glow in the dark top coat. The colour shades are All White Now (bright white), Pretty Woman (red crème), and Little Black Dress (black crème).

morgan-taylor-rocky-horror-picture-show-swatches

The polishes are definitely some of the best I’ve ever used in terms of consistency. I nearly had full opacity with just one coat, with is unbelievably impressive for the white shade especially. I ended up using two coats for the above swatches, and (apart from the white, which I messed up a bit) they all have a gorgeous high gloss finish.

makeup-revolution-unicorns-unite-lipsticks

Next we have the Makeup Revolution Unicorns Unite Lipstick Collection (£1.00 each or all five for £4.00)

Makeup Revolution are the perfect brand to go for if you need to pick up some crazy coloured cosmetics on a budget. The new Unicorns Unite lipstick collection contains five spooky lipstick shades –

  • Pink Myth – a bright coral pink with a creme finish.
  • Throne – a muted lavender shade with a pearlised finish.
  • Horn of Magic – a light sea green with a pearlised finish.
  • Legend – a muted grey toned lavender with a paralysed finish.
  • Magical – a bright blue toned purple with a slight pearlised sheen.

makeup-revolution-unicorns-unite-swatches

The lipsticks aren’t quite as pigmented as I’d hoped to be honest, but they still they do the job, and for only £1.00 each (or less if you buy them as a set) these could be just what you’re looking for to complete your Halloween look this weekend.

essie-illamasqua-halloween-nail-polishes

I’ve also selected a few of my favourite darker shades of nail polish –

  • Essie ‘for the twill of it’ – an iridescent pearl shade with pearl with pink, violet and green shimmer (£8.95)
  • Illamasqua ‘Element‘ – a mid pearlised taupe grey (£14.50)
  • Essie ‘after school boy blazer ‘ – a deep midnight navy blue (£8.95)

essie-illamasqua-halloween-nail-polishes-swatches

All of these polishes are fabulous in terms of consistency as well as ease of application. I think Essie’s after school boy blazer has to be my favourite though, it’s a beautiful, almost black midnight blue shade.

mo-you-halloween-nail-set

I also have this awesome Halloween inspired transfer nail plate from Mo You (from £4.99)

If you haven’t heard of Mo You before, they offer a massive selection of nail products, including stamping and nail plate sets, nail tools, nail art products, and nail polishes. If you’re into nail art, you should definitely check these guys out!

thumbs-up-halloween-nail-wraps

And lastly I have these super cute glow in the dark Halloween nail wraps from Thumbs Up Nails (£7.99)

I hope some of these products have inspired you for this weekend! Do you have you’re halloween outfit planned yet? I hope you enjoyed my post!

The Most Beautiful Polishes in the Land: Smith & Cult

Posted on October 26, 2015

smith-and-cult-nail-polish

Hi Guys!

I always find there’s something really relaxing and pampering about painting my nails. This probably stems from the fact that with having children, you do not ‘just’ paint your nails. You have to make sure there’s space (tidy up the toys) make sure the little one(s) are either playing well out of the way, or preferably tucked up in bed, and make sure you have a good amout of time to apply and perfect your mani.

What adds to this lovely bit of me time, is when I have a brand new, not to mention gorgeous looking product to play with – and that’s my cue to introduce Smith & Cult – probably some of the most beautiful nail polishes I’ve ever seen.

smith-and-cult-flat-lay

Smith & Cult are brand new to the world of nails, and they were founded by Dineh Mohajer. You may not recognise the name but when I tell you this is the same lady that started cult 00’s nail brand Hard Candy, this may ring a few bells. Well where Hard Candy appealed to the teen masses of the time, Smith & Cult is definitely aimed at the older, more sophisticated customer.

I love that the shades included in this collection were all directly inspired by Dineh’s own memories and experiences –

‘To this day my memories are guided by color. First kiss – Pink dress. Breakups – too many colors, a rainbow of tears. Makeups – always shades of green (kind of weird that all my moments of making up involved the color of envy). The shade of my 2nd grade teacher’s lipstick – glossy red (rumors were that she was Miss Michigan at some point in her life). My Dad’s required, yet favorite, gear – muted, almost-periwinkle blue surgical scrubs. My Mom’s bathrobe – simply white. All of the moments that stay with me begin with colour.’

smith-andcult-nails

Let’s look at the bottles, which are just beautiful. I love the high shine gold lids, and the fact that they’re all a bit wonky, though they’ve been pressed in and dented while setting. On paper I know this sounds a little strange, but in real life they have a super elegant and luxe feel, that wouldn’t be out of place on display next to your Chanel on your dressing table.

smith-and-cult

The three shades above are –

  • Doe My Dear – a light taupe grey
  • Pillow Pie – a pure pretty baby pink
  • Gay Ponies Dancing in the Snow (yes this is the actual name!) – a fine pink glitter suspended in a sheer pink base.

Smith and Cult’s Nail Lacquer has an exclusive 5-Free formula, without Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin or Camphor, and the range consists of 33 essential hues and styles, including the edited glitter collection.

smith-and-cult-swatches

And lastly, the swatches. I used three coats of each shade here and they applied amazingly well. Drying time was fairly average, and I can’t comment on longevity as yet, as I’ve only just applied the polish to my own nails. I’ve gone with Doe My Dear, so I’ll update this post when I can.

These polishes are definitely a must have for any nail polish lover – get them on your Christmas list now! 🙂

Smith & Cult nail polishes are £19.00 each and available now from Net-a-Porter.
