NEW Sleek Makeup Products! | Review

Posted on July 16, 2014

Hi Guys!

I’ve got some gorgeous Sleek Makeup products to show you today! I have the Rio Rio I-Divine Eyeshadow Palette (£7.99) Three Gloss Me Lip Glosses (£4.99 each) and an Eyebrow Stylist Pencil (£5.99)

The Rio Rio palette is full of gorgeous bright shades, reflecting the exciting celebrations of the famous Rio carnival. As with all I-Divine palettes, you receive twelve shadows in a sleek glossy black casing. The shadows themselves are a fabulous array of bright and exotic colours, and at only £7.99 this would be a fab palette to buy if you wanted to start experimenting with colour! Some of these shades are amazing, and some are ok. Luckily ten out of the twelve are amazing! The only couple I wasn’t so keen on was Ipanema (third along on the below picture) and Copacabana (third along on the second below picture) These shades just didn’t have the pigmentation of the others, but the others were so good! Where often matte shades can be a bit of a let down on budget palettes, these were amazing! Just look at that electric orange! The shimmers were also to die for, hello golden yellow!

The Gloss Me lip glosses I have are (top to bottom) 22 Maria Maria, 21 Hawaii Honey, and 20 Angel Falls. These are all fabulous glosses that I have to say, I expected to be pretty sheer – how wrong was I!? Well two out of the three are actually super pigmented! Angel Falls is the perfect nude, if you like a lighter colour than your lips nude shade then definitely go for this. Maria Maria is a gorgeous intense red, and Hawaii Honey was the only gloss that came out sheer, so it just gave my lips a hint of sparkle.

And finally the Eyebrow Stylist in light is a really nifty little tool to have in your makeup bag! On one end you have the twist up eyebrow shade, in a handy kind of teardrop shape to suit the shape of your brows, and on the other you get a brush to tame those brows into shape! Awesome!

So all in all Sleek have come up with yet another bunch of fab new products! (You can check out my previous Sleek post here) So what do you think? I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any of these products?

Papillon Artisan Perfumes

Posted on May 27, 2014

Hi Guys!

Today I want to introduce you to Papillon Artisan Perfumery! Papillon is a brand new company created by the lovely Liz Moores. It will be launching shortly with three gorgeous perfumes for the debut collection, these are – Anubis, Tobacco Rose and Angelique.

Anubis is a leather floral with notes of Egyptian jasmine, pink lotus, suede, immortelle, frankincense and saffron. This was the first perfume Liz created and was the catalyst for starting her own business.

Tobacco Rose is floral in the chypre style with notes of Bulgarian rose, rose de Mai, oakmoss, galbanum, geranium, beeswax and hay. Liz wanted to create a rose perfume that would challenge people’s perceptions of rose which is sometimes seen as dowdy or too pretty.

Angelique is a floral wood with notes of mimosa, osmanthus, white champac, orris and cedarwood.  As the previous two perfumes are big hitters Liz wanted to create a perfume with a more delicate and natural timbre.

All the perfumes are classical in their construction; using roughly a 50/50 ratio of naturals to synthetics with a high percentage of the extrait used in each bottle.

I’m definitely a perfume fanatic, and I love anything that’s slightly more unusual than your standard off-the-shelf fragrances. I’m not going to pretend I understand what all the ingredients and notes mean, because I’m no expert. But I think these perfumes are fabulous, they’re unusual – an acquired taste, and they definitely grab your attention. I can only think to compare them to Tom Ford’s Private Blend Collection, though which ones correlate to which Papillon perfume I’m afraid I can’t say as I don’t remember all the scents individually. If you love niche perfumes though you should definitely give these a try!

Papillon Artisan Perfumery will launch on 24th June, a 50ml bottle will have an RRP of £94 xxx

MAC Heroine Lipstick Review and Swatches

Posted on March 24, 2014

Hi Guys!

So I recently caved in and purchased MAC’s Heroine lipstick. I went to buy it when it was originally released but I was a bit slow off the mark, and it sold out super fast, so I missed out and was pretty disappointed. Then suddenly MAC was shouting from the rooftops that Heroine was back in stock, woo hoo! So I nabbed one up quickly! I really don’t need any more lipsticks but this just looked like such a gorgeous shade of purple I couldn’t resist!

mac heroine_edited-1

So, Heronie is simply described as ‘bright purple’ by MAC, and it really is! It also has a matte finish, which I realised after I bought it. This did slightly concerned me due to my RIRI Talk That Talk disaster experience, but luckily this is just a matte, and Talk That Talk lipstick was a retro matte, phew!

mac heroine review

The colour is, to me, simply perfection. I know that sounds a bit OTT but purple lipstick is my ‘thing’, I have a small collection of purples which I’m always keen to expand on as there aren’t many out there  that fit my requirements – they always seem a bit to reddish, more on the burgundy side than a true purple – and there definitely aren’t many ‘true’ purple lipsticks around at all! I have in my mind what I’m looking for, this is definitely the closest I’ve found yet.

Ok I’m in love with this lipstick, I completely understand why it sold out (and has now for a second time) it’s such a wearable colour, even for pale and peculiar people like me! Purple lipsticks are often either very dark, which often doesn’t suit me, or very sheer, and then I’m disappointed with the colour payoff. This is neither, it’s a clean, bright colour, the formula though matte, feels creamy and comfortable to wear, even on my lips which tend to be dry, and it lasts for hours before re-application is required. This definitely gets a 10 out of 10 from me!

I’d love to hear what you think? Did you snap up Heroine or wish you had?

Nanogen Thickening Hair Fibres Review

Posted on March 20, 2014

Hi Guys!

When I saw Nanogen were looking for bloggers on Twitter to review a hair thickening product, I instantly jumped at the chance! If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know I had issues with hair loss last year due to stress, luckily my hair now seems to have stopped falling out but it’s taking forever to start growing again! This has left me with very fine, sparse hair, with noticeable thinning at the front and back.

nanogen review

So what is Nanogen?

This is the top of the tub – just shake it on and go!

nanogen fibres

These are what the fibres look like. Like tiny cut hairs, but thinner than human hair, and around 1mm long. I’m using the Medium Brown colour.

nanogen before and after

Here are my before and after pictures! So before – you can see my hair is quite fine and thin at the front around my temples. This one of the places my hair loss affected the most, it also seems to be one of the toughest places for my hair grow back.

nanogen for women

And after! How much better does this look! I’m so impressed!! The shaker was a bit large just for this small area so I tipped some fibres out into my hand and patted them on with my fingers, I’m so happy with this! It’s a subtle difference but really noticeable to me, and I really feel it makes my hair look thicker at the front 😀

So what do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts! xxx

Wantable March Make Up Box Review

Posted on March 18, 2014

Hi Guys!

Well it doesn’t seem that long ago I was excited about my February Wantable Makeup Box, and now my March one is here already! 🙂 If you haven’t heard of Wantable, they are a US subscription box company that have just started shipping to the UK, offering makeup, accessories and intimates (undies). You can read all about them in my previous Makeup and Accessories box posts 🙂

wantable makeup box review

So here is my March box! As always, a lovely message was waiting for me when I opened it up.

wantable march box review

My March box contains a deep red lipstick, a neutral taupe eyeshadow, a foundation brush, liquid highlighter, and a primer sample. On first glance I’m really happy with this selection!

la bella donna lipstick

First up is the lipstick – how gorgeous is this colour!? The outer casing also reminds me of a silver version of my Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick! It instantly gives the impression of a luxury product. It’s very high quality, and looks and feels expensive.

wantable lipstick swatch

The colour is a deep burgundy red. It’s an intense classic red shade that will suit most people. The formula feels creamy and is very richly pigmented. Unfortunately I can’t try this on my lips at the moment as I’ve just been to the emergency dentist and my mouth is numb! I’ll update you on the application and longevity at a later date.

La Bella Donna Mineral Light Lip Colour in Mindful Red. Rich, creamy with a satiny texture and lush shine describes this makeup artists’ favourite. Ceramide 2 nourishes and conditions the lips long after the appearance of colour disappears. La Bella Donna’s mineral pigments are long-lasting and create lips that are very luminous when viewed from different angles of light. $24.50

wantable eyeshadow

nude eyeshadow

Next is the eyeshadow. This is the same brand as the eyeshadow from my February box which I loved, so I had high hopes for this as soon as I saw it! The colour is a lovely light warm beige taupe, which would work great as a base. It’s the same amazing texture as my previous eyeshadow, it’s so finely milled and soft it almost feels buttery! I’ve worn this for a day and I’m very happy with it.

(PI_) Beauty With a Wink Eyeshadow in Serenity. These eyeshadows come in several beautiful shades  rich in pigment ranging from soft neutrals to velvety shimmers to eye popping fashion colours. $18.00

wantable brush

Next is the brush, which I’ll be honest is not overly exciting to look at. But when I touched it I was very surprised at how soft and firm yet flexible the bristles were. I would definitely put this on a par with my MAC brushes. I looked on the Michael Marcus site for some more info, and found the value is actually $38 rather than $20 which Wantable have valued it at!

Michael Marcus Prime Foundation Brush $20.00

face glimmer

Next up is the highlighter. I loved the colour of this as soon as I saw it. It’s a lovely warm golden tone, kind of like if you mixed gold with rose gold.

face glimmer wand

The applicator is like a lipgloss wand.

wantable face glimmer

This highlighter is just gorgeous! You can wear it quite sheer, or build up the colour as much as you want. This will definitely be a staple in my makeup bag this summer!

Girlaktik Beauty Face Glimmer in 14k. We all love radiant looking skin. Apply the face glimmer on your upper cheekbones, a little on your nose, your forehead and on the cupids bow of your lips for a natural looking glow and faintly glimmering radiance. $20.00

wantable sorme

And lastly is a nice little freebie – Sorme Fresh Start Anti Aging Under Foundation Makeup Enhancer (what a mouthful!) So this appears to be a primer, and it’s the same make as the fabulous blush / bronzer due from my last box. Wantable didn’t provide any info about this sample so I checked out the Sorme site –

This light, fast-drying formula instantly evens out skin discolourations, smoothes skin texture, and fills in fine lines and wrinkles so that makeup goes on evenly and lasts far longer without touch ups. A powerful blotting ingredient holds up to 10 times its weight in oils for a shine-free, poreless finish. Super antioxidants of Green Tea, Grape Seed Extract, and Pomegranate help repair free radical damage. Hyaluronic Acid keeps skin hydrated without oils.

This sounds pretty awesome, I haven’t tried it yet but will let you know when I do!

So overall again I’m very impressed with my box. This little lot of full sized products adds up to a value of $82.50 (£49.67) which is a complete bargain! This is definitely my favourite box so far 🙂

If you’re interested in signing up to Wantable I’d highly recommend it!

Anti Ageing Skin Care Products: It’s All Good

Posted on February 9, 2014

I am very honoured to have another guest spot on Michelle’s blog following my fashion post on Kim Kardashian fashion in December. This time I come to you with a review on an anti-ageing skin care product a friend of mine recommended. I am not particularly worried about ageing quite yet but I am conscious that it is important to look after your skin now in order to age gracefully! So I have dabbled with a few anti-ageing skin care products in the past. Not only that, the Daily Mail recently reported findings that looking younger can make you live longer. The research suggests young looking women tend to have lower blood pressure, reducing their risk of cardiovascular problems like heart attacks and strokes. I don’t know about you but I am not taking any chances.

Right, so the product I have been testing is called ITS ALL GOOD, which retails on their website for £37 and features sunflower oil, coconut oil and watermelon seed oil. To me this sounded like a very oily facial treatment which worried me a little but I persevered as the product description sounded great and it was described as being non-greasy. Besides it is made by luxurious brand Temple Spa (only stocked in the likes of Harrods and Selfridges don’t you know), so it had to be good, right? They also have spa salons dotted around the UK and several other countries in some very lovely hotels and run spa parties, so if this sounds likes your cup of tea then it is certainly within reach.

From what I know they are quite a high-end brand with a big emphasis on natural, high-quality and healthy ingredients, which I love. According to their website, ITS ALL GOOD:

  • Delivers anti-ageing benefits
  • Normalises hypersensitive or stressed skin
  • Soothes and calms inflamed skin
  • Softens the appearance of stretch marks, scars and acne scarring on any part of the face or body
  • Helps prevent stretch marks
  • Gives an instant aesthetic boost – lustre and vitality
  • Is lightweight, quickly absorbed and non-greasy
  • Strengthens thin or fragile skin, making it less vulnerable to reactions and sensitivity
  • Restores elasticity
  • Renews firmness, suppleness and smoothness
  • Is moisture boosting

What Were the Results?

So I had used ITS ALL GOOD for a few days and I was impressed at just how lightweight it was. It made my skin feel smooth too so I was happy with that. After using it for just over a week I did notice that the redness I sometimes get on my face was a lot less visible than usual, and my Husband had commented that I looked less tired and stressed than I have been recently.

Although I hate to admit it, I did notice that I looked younger.  My skin does seem to be suppler and is definitely softer, so it appears as if this product is doing everything it claims so far. Having also found this Skin Truffle review, I am certainly curious to try more from them.

Has anybody else tried any of these Temple Spa anti-ageing products, or been to any of the spas they sell their products at? I would love to know your experiences! If you are also interested in make-up tips, then check out Michelle’s Smashbox review.

Thank you to Nathalie Martin @martinnathalie9 for this guest post! xxx

A Shade Wilder Great Barrier Reef Print

Posted on December 4, 2013

Hi Guys!

Today I want to show you my fantastic new Great Barrier Reef framed print by Peter Adams 🙂

We’ve been in our house over a year and a half now, and we still haven’t got round to sorting our pictures and photos out and getting some put up, so my lounge has been a bit bare – which is pretty much my fault as I’ve been really indecisive about what to put where! Then I discovered A Shade Wilder and found they stocked this gorgeous abstract scenic print in blues and greens, it was just the thing I was looking for! It’s pretty big at 70x100cm but sits above my sofa and helps create a relaxing atmosphere in my lounge.
