Simply Beautiful Collection Skincare First Impressions

Posted on July 4, 2018

Something I want to do more on TSNC moving forward, is try out, test, review and and talk about smaller and lesser known brands. It think it’s now harder than ever for smaller, and also newer brands to get noticed in such a saturated market – and as consumers we know it’s always tempting to experience something new when it comes to beauty, so I hope you’re as excited as I am about discovering some new awesome cosmetics and skincare in the coming months!

So on this note, I was very excited to recently receive a package from a brand I’d never heard of before – SBC Gels. Simply Beautiful Collection (SBC) is a British beauty brand, and funnily enough they’re actually based just up the road from me, at Needham Market in Suffolk, yay for local brands! 😀

They were founded in 1988, and offer fuss-free, practical, effective, and affordable products, including skincare gels, moisturisers, serums, polishes, and cleansers, as well as much more. The brand is eco-friendly and cruelty-free, and use only the finest quality naturally derived ingredients to create natural skincare and body care that they promise really works.

SBC Kindly sent over a couple of their latest products from the ‘Collagen’ range, including their best-selling cleanser, the Collagen 3-in-1 Cleanser along with a Skin Shammy to use with it. Also, one of their latest launches, the Collagen Body Polish.

Firstly, the Collagen 3-in-1 Cleanser – this is described as an effective triple-action facial cleanser that removes all traces of make-up, dirt, oil and impurities, while mildly exfoliating the skin for a softer, smoother and brighter complexion. This is recommended for mature, dull and dry skin types.

So first impressions – this is a decent 250ml sized bottle, which I think is really reasonable for £26.00. The cleanser itself is a luxuriously thick cream, and I can just tell by the texture that my dry skin is going to love it! It also has a lovely light scent – I can be quite put off by overly scented products but this is spot on, just light and floral and fresh.

I’ve used this cleanser a few times now and it really does live up to its claims. I just realised I forgot to include the shammy in my pictures, I must have left it in the bathroom! I used the shammy along with the cleanser as instructed – you just massage one or two pumps on to dry skin, over the eyes, face and neck, then gently wipe off with the shammy and warm water. It left my face completely cleansed, soft and supple.

I also have the Collagen Body Polish – this is a sumptuous body polish, rich in Collagen and Vitamin E to revitalise tired skin. The texture is thick, yet light, and includes super fine pumice beads to gently buff away dead skin cells, promising to leave your skin feeling silky-soft and nourished, with long lasting moisture.

Again I’ve also used this a few times now, and it really is fantastic! If your skin’s on the sensitive side like mine is, then any product that’s ‘exfoliating’ can be a bit of a minefield. The pumice beads in the Collagen Body Polish are so-so tiny though, that they’re completely non-abrasive, yet give a decent level of light exfoliation that leaves skin feeling super soft and silky. The Collagen Body Polish also has the same light, fresh scent as the Cleanser, so I’m a happy bunny all round!

If you have sensitive skin like I do, and you’re interested in eco-friendly, cruelty free skincare, as well as supporting smaller, local brands, I highly recommend you check out the fantastic range of products that SBC offer!

The above products are available to purchase now at SBC Gels.

Clean Reserve Avant Garden EDP Collection #UnlockTheAvantGarden

Posted on July 3, 2018

Clean Reserve is a fragrance brand that I really don’t think gets enough credit. If you’re not familiar with them, Clean Reserve are a fantastic pioneer of simple, no fuss, eco-conscious fragrances. They use only the finest ingredients which they grow themselves and harvest responsibly. All their scents are manufactured using 100% solar energy, and they also commit to supporting the lives and livelihoods of the farmers they work with.

The Avant Garden collection of six fragrances merges the structure of a traditional clean linear eau de parfum with a luxurious niche approach – it’s an organic extension of Clean Reserve’s mission to conscientiously source raw ingredients that are cultivated using environmentally sound harvesting practices. The collection is completely cruelty-free, free of phthalates, preservatives, gluten and artificial dyes, as well as being infused with safe molecular naturals and sustainable notes such as mandarin, cardamom, and sandalwood.

“The sustainable flowers from the farm in the original Clean Reserve collection have morphed together creating a fantastical world where two unlikely notes blend together in a lush, secret garden,” said Greta Fitz, VP Global Marketing & Product Development, Fusion Brands America, Inc. “Each fragrance is comprised of two unlikely notes where together they make a magical, beautiful fragrance that has never before been experienced.”

The Clean Reserve Avant Garden collection includes six fragrances:

  • Galbanum & Rain: This fresh and woody fragrance is crafted with eco-conscious and sustainable notes of galbanum, Sichuan pepper, clearwood, cedarwood, patchouli and vetiver.
  • Hemp & Ginger: Blends cardamom, Sichuan pepper and elemi for a multi-faceted earthy scent.
  • Muget & Skin: Cardomom, jasmine, clearwood and patchouli bring a feeling of warmth in this sophisticated scent.
  • Saguaro Blossom & Sand: Mimosa, jasmine, lavender flower, and rose create a unique scent that is inviting and intriguing.
  • Sweetbriar & Moss: This non-traditional floral scent contains rose, Sichuan pepper and lychee rose for an unexpected elegant finish.
  • White Amber & Warm Cotton: A fresh twist on the classic ‘Warm Cotton’ scent, notes of mandarin, bergamot and sandalwood provide depth to the comforting scent of cotton.

I have Saguaro Blossom & Sand, which is a wonderfully delicate, lightly feminine scent. It’s a dry, woody floral, both bright and modern. It’s fresh yet warm, with dewy, airy accords that linger on the skin for hours. I also have Sweetbriar & Moss which is pretty similar to Saguaro Blossom & Sand, it’s again more of a feminine scent, but not overly so. It’s also a dry woody floral – classic and daring, and again leaves a beautiful trail of scent on the skin.

The Clean Reserve Avant Garden Eau de Parfum collection (£129.00 for 100ml) is available now exclusively at Space NK.

Ten Brand New Fragrances To Try: Paco Rabanne / Michael Kors / Moschino / L’Occitane / Calvin Klein

Posted on June 29, 2018

Happy Friday! I hope you’re making the most of this fabulous weather we’re having? Today I’ve gathered together a selection of new fragrances that have either recently launched, or will be on sale very soon. Enjoy!

Let’s start off with one of my favourite scents today – Paco Rabanne Olympea Aqua. I’ve been a fan of Olympia for a long time, and their latest Aqua version is a beautifully luminescent, sparkling re-edition of the signature fragrance. Olympia Aqua is light yet sensual, soft and addictive, opening with notes of Calamondin and Cashmeron, leading to a heart of Lemon Blossom and sensual, Salty Vanilla, and a warming base of Hydroponic Jasmine and Ambergris – this scent is a must-try this summer.

Next I have Michael Kors Limited Edition Sheer. Soft, feminine and delicate, Sheer combines soothing herbal notes with rich florals and woodsy musk, to conjure moments of sheer intimacy. Enveloped by top notes of Bergamot and Tarragon, this luxurious blend is invigorated with hints of fresh Peony, Jasmine petals and smooth white Cedarwood for a subtly alluring finish.

  • Top Notes: Bergamot, Tarragon, and Green Leaves.
  • Heart Notes: Peony, Orange Blossom Absolute, and Jasmine Petals.
  • Base Notes: Cashmere Wood, Musk, Amber Accord, and White Cedarwood.

I also have the gorgeous Moschino Cheap & Chic So Real – can I just start by mentioning the bottle, it’s completely mad and I love it! In case you weren’t sure, So Real is inspired by Popeye’s other half, Olive Oyl. The bottle, reminiscent of a Picasso painting, was designed by Moschino’s artistic director Jeremy Scott, and as you can probably guess, the fragrance is described as ironic, fun and joyful!

The opening of So Real is sharp and bright, with citrus notes of Bitter Orange and Mandarin, as well as juicy Raspberry and Blackcurrant Sorbet. The vibrant floral heart of faceted Pink peony, airy Jasmine, and Magnolia Blossoms leads to a wonderful base of Cedar, Oak Musk and Ambrosian Crystals. This really is a gorgeous summer fragrance, definitely not one to overlook! Also it’s currently a complete steal at only £14.50! Check the link above 🙂

Calvin Klein Eternity Air is a modern feminine interpretation of a traditional floral, with a burst of freshness conveyed through the Sky of the Sky Accord and a dense sexiness with a Cedarwood base. It’s a cool, bright, and refreshing scent, almost unisex, and perfect for those looking for something light and invigorating.

  • Top Notes: Grapefruit Oil, Black Currant Absolute, Sky of the Sky Accord
  • Heart Notes: Peony, Muguet, Pear Accord
  • Base Notes: Cedarwood Oil, Ambergris, Skin Musk

& Other Stories Moroccan Tea – Ok so I must admit, I was sent this to try and I thought it was a new fragrance, but it’s actually not! Never mind hey! Moroccan Tea is an oriental woody fragrance, with top notes of Cardamom, Mint and Lemon, a heart of Orange Blossom, Mate and Almond, and a base of Cedar, Sandalwood, Musk and Brown Sugar. It’s quite an unusual fragrance that’s definitely worth a look next time you’re visiting & Other Stories stores.

Ariana Grande Moonlight – luminous and alluring, sweet and sensual, Moonlight is surprisingly beautiful. The scent opens with notes of sparkling rich Black Currant and juicy Plum, while the super sweet heart of fluffy Marshmallow and fresh Peony add a captivating wink of intrigue and mystery. A final seductive touch of creamy Sandalwood, Black Amber and sensual Vanilla at the base leave you with a wonderfully warm and sensual dry down.

I also have the latest launch from Hollister – Hollister Festival Vibes is a wonderfully bright and juicy scent, perfect for daily wear this summer. Festival Vibes is a wonderfully lively scent, opening with sparkling Italian Bergamot, fresh Quince, and Goji Berries. The floral heart offers a lush layer of Pink Peony, delicate Osmanthus, Vanilla Orchid, and Coral Hibiscus. Finally, the dry down envelops you like a comforting blanket of Cashmere Moods, creamy Tonka, and soft Musk.

Abercrombie & Fitch First Instinct Blue Women – Is definitely another favourite of mine, First Instinct Blue is a bright and energetic scent, radiating happiness, light and positivity. The fragrance opens with top notes of zesty Citrus Bergamia, juicy Blackcurrant, and refreshing Marine, leading to a sensual heart of velvety Apricot Nectar, Jasmine flowers and delicate Peonies. The base comprises of woody Patchouli, Creamy vanilla and Sandalwood for a rich and warm dry down.

First Instinct Blue Woman will be available nationwide from 30th July 2018.

If you’re looking for more of an evening scent, L’Occitane Terre De Lumiere Intense is definitely worth checking out. Perfect for fans of oud, Terre De Lumiere Intense opens with the enchanting oriental scent of Incense, leading to a gourmand heart of aromatic Lavender, sweet Honey and Tonka. This harmony is prolonged by its warm base that leaves behind a woody trail of Cedarwood, spicy Oud which mingles with the softness of Vanilla.

And lastly, Goya Black Rose. Goya have recently re-launched a selection of fragrances from different eras, with Black Rose representing the fabulous fifties, an era of stunning beauty, elegance, and romance. This fragrance opens with a sparkling citrus Green Accord contrasted with Bergamot and Clove. The heart reaveals a fresh and feminine floral bouquet of Rose, Geranium, and Rose Damas enhanced by a confortable drydown of Jasmine, Salicylate and velvety Musk.

Rodin Olio Lusso Mermaid Luxury Collection

Posted on June 27, 2018

I have a couple of beautiful brand new launches to share with you today from luxury brand Rodin Olio Lussso. Their new Mermaid collection focusses on soft and supple, natural looking skin, with a body and lip oil, as well as a couple of gorgeous highlighters for a radiant summertime glow…

The Olio Lusso Mermaid Collection features a radiance-boosting line-up of fantastical finishing rituals for face and body. Fulfilling her philosophy that there’s beauty in simplicity, Linda Rodin’s silken formulas nourish skin and generate an otherworldly glow. Rodin’s artist friend and fellow-Pisces, Donald Robertson, brings the skin care guru’s creations to life with exclusive packaging painted with magical marine life.

The Mermaid luxury Illuminating Powder is just absolutely stunning! Housed in a generously sized clear compact, the powder is embossed with a cute under sea design, including a mermaid and a couple of sea creatures. There is one shade available – Siren, which is a beautiful light nude pink toned champagne that will suit most skin tones, offering skin a natural sunlit radiance. The product itself is described as a gel-powder, and it has a sheer, buildable texture that can be applied with a light hand for a soft-focus glow, or layered up for a full on glowing sheen.

I also have Mermaid Luxury Kabuki Brush which as been specially designed to apply the Mermaid Illuminating Powder. It features a sleek and compact design with long white cashmere synthetic bristles. Though it’s compact in size, the brush head is quite large so you won’t be able to use this for detailed application (brow highlight, inner eye corners etc) This is perfect for large application areas, such as sweeping the product lightly all over the face, decolette and shoulders for a natural looking radiant glow.

I also have the Mermaid luxury Illuminating Liquid – this is essentially a liquid version of the above highlighter, again suitable for both face and body. It’s presented in a pump bottle with a nod to the under water theme printed on the front. The shade of the liquid highlighter is slightly more gold toned and the finish is more intense than the powder. The liquid gold formula is infused with an exquisite blend of micro-fine, light-reflecting optics, giving skin a super-radiant and healthy summer glow.

The collection also includes a Mermaid Luxury Lip Oil and Mermaid Luxury Body Oil – both described as indulgent elixirs infused with precious botanicals, one to condition lips and leave them looking full, supple and kissable, and the other for the supreme silkening, nourishing and moisturising of skin.

This really is a stunning collection and definitely worth a look if your on the hunt for a new highlighter this summer!

The Rodin Olio Lusso Mermaid Luxury collection is available now at Liberty London.

Cohorted Beauty Box June 18 / Doucce Beauty

Posted on June 25, 2018

It’s been a really long time since I’ve reviewed Cohorted’s monthly beauty boxes – but today Cohorted are back on the blog with their latest box for June 2018!

This particular box is brand specific, containing a selection of colour cosmetics from New York beauty brand, Doucce Cosmetics. Personally I hadn’t heard of Doucce before, so if like me you’re new to the brand, here’s a bit of background info –

Doucce was born in New York, and its name was inspired by the French word “douce”, meaning soft and elegant. Each one of Doucce’s innovative products embodies the underlying ethos of the brand’s name and ideals, by combining high fashion hues and contemporary packaging, to create the perfect combination of trendy and très chic.

The Cohorted X Doucce beauty box contains a selection of six Doucce products, valued at a total of £146.00. On first look, the products appear high quality, weighty and have an overall luxurious feel. Let’s take a closer look…

The Freematic Pro Palette (£50.00) is definitely the stand out product here. This palette has been designed specifically for Cohorted and contains a selection of face and eye colours. The Freematic palette itself is essentially an empty magnetic palette that’s specifically made to fit Doucce’s corresponding eyeshadows, blushers, bronzers and highlighters.

Cohorted’s Freematic Pro Palette includes one large highlighter pan in shade Ember, a light champagne shimmer, two medium blusher pans in 52 Delightful Peach, a light peach with a hint of shimmer, and 55 After Party, a muted matt pink. There are also four eyeshadows – shade 89 Gracie, a matte taupe grey, 58 Nadia, an intense bronze-gold shimmer, 77 Julia, a pink-bronze shimmer, and 86 Sophia, a muted matte Burgundy. All shades are soft and well pigmented, and I’d say the shimmers are more impressive than the mattes, but all are very nice to use and easy to blend.

The Fierce and Fine Graphic Pen is described as a deeply pigmented waterproof graphic pen that is both easy to use and creates precise, sharp lines. And I have to say I absolutely love this pen! The formula is inky black, dries down quickly and doesn’t move throughout the day. I’d say it’s on par with my Stila Stay All Day Eyeliner which I use all the time.

And to finish your eye look, the Maxlash Mascara promises to intensify your lashes with outrageous volume and length. Unfortunately this didn’t really do much for me. The XL brush was too large for my short and fine lashes, and the mascara itself did give a bit of volume, but no curl or length. If you’re lucky enough to have longer lashes though this could work well for you.

On to lips now, Cohorted have also included a Doucce Matte Temptation Lipstick in 103 First Date – I must admit I thought the lipstick bullett looked incredibly matte, and I really though it was going to be drying, but actually it was nicely creamy, giving a matte finish that gave full coverage colour as well as feeling smooth and comfortable on the lips. The shade didn’t really suit me, bit I’d definitely be interested in trying some of their other colours – this is a great alternative to a matte liquid lipstick.

The Lip Definer Pencil in shade 470 Lyra has been chosen to match the above lipstick. It gave a smooth, pigmented line that definitely helped keep my lipstick in place – no complaints here!

And lastly the Brow Filler Pencil in Ash Brown. This was another winner for me – the shade was perfect for my light brown brows, and the firm formula gave nice sharp lines which were great for drawing individual lines as well as filling in the brows.

If you’re interested in subscribing to Cohorted’s monthly beauty boxes, you can do so here. Make sure you use code #COHORTEDGIFTME which gives first time subscribers a free Huda Beauty lip Strobe in shade Angelic (worth £17.00) with their first box.
