It’s been at least a few years since I last tried any makeup from Primark, so when I heard about the new InstaGirl makeup range and Revive Skinare collection, I was intrigued to see how their products have come on over the last few years…
The InstaGirl Collection is described as a selfie-ready cosmetics range, comprising of 17 pieces to offer quick fixes for all of your prep and prime needs. The base products have been specifically designed with feature enhancing blue pigments that reflect light and brighten the skin tone, and they also promise to be to be ‘flash proof’ – nobody wants flashback when you’re trying to take a selfie 😀
The products themselves are very ‘now’ both in terms of the packaging and the colour palette Primark have used. The packaging is clean and minimalist – perfect for including in your Insta photos, and the shades are all muted nudes. Subtle yet pretty, this collection is clearly marketed at the selfie generation. – I just hope the products perform as well as they look.
For the complexion, I have the Face Protecting Prime & Anti Shine Balm, which is a compact containing a solid balm and a flat sponge applicator. As I’m sure you can guess, the balm is supposed to prime and prevent shine – well personally I can tell you it did an ok job for me, but I probably wouldn’t recommend it if you have particularly oily skin.
The Perfecting Stick, is a slightly different primer designed to minimise the appearance of pores. I actually quite liked this one, it did the job as a primer and definitely helped give my foundation a more flawless finish.
And the Flash Photo Powder, which is a translucent powder with light reflecting blue pigments for photo ready skin. This isn’t the worst product in the world, but it did look pretty white on my (already pale) skin – maybe this could work if you’re super pale and looking for a finishing powder though.
For lips, the Intense Liquid Lipstick I have is a gorgeous muted nude greige-pink, and matching Kissproof Lipliner Pencil in Nude Selfie. I really love the colour, and the formula is pretty decent considering the price. This isn’t the sort of liquid lipstick that dries down, but I don’t really see that as a problem. It gave great coverage with only one swipe, and lasted a good few hours before I needed to re-apply.
And I also have the Lip Plump Gloss – which is a bit of an oxymoron as it supposedly has a matte finish! This is a tingly, and cooling clear gloss with a light minty scent, that has an invisible finish. It gives a light plumping feeling, which is very similar to Too Faced’s Lip Injection Glosses but not quite as intense.
There’s also an InstaGirl Fragrance – of course. This is a sweet girly scent, that would definitely appeal to younger generations, and it’s the perfect size for your handbag.
And lastly I have the One Coat Nail Lacquer in shade Nude Selfie which matches the lip products nicely. This is actually a fantastic polish, only taking one coat for full opaqueness. It didn’t last particularly long before chipping but I can definitely overlook that for the sake of the price.
Prices for the InstaGirl Collection range from £1.50 for the Lip Liners up to £6.00 for the Face Palette.
And the Revive collection is Primark’s first beauty range specifically created to soothe the body, relax the mind and lift the soul. The six-piece collection contains body scrubs, energizing sprays and natural oils to help relieve the stresses of modern day life.
I have the ginger and lemon Energising Spray, which is perfect to use first thing in the morning – revitalising the senses in just one pump. And the Anti Stress Spray which contains Lavender, Geranium and Ylang Ylang which can be used to ease feelings of stress and tension.
The Rose & Peony Perfume Oil has been designed to use on the pulse points, offering a fresh yet gentle floral scent that can be worn on a daily basis. And lastly the Massage Oil, which is definitely my favourite product out of the Revive collection. It contains Olive, Sweet Almond, Safflower, Soybean and Rose Flower oils to revitalise, calm the mind and nourish the body from head to toe.
Prices range from £1.50 to £3.00 for the Revive collection.
Overall I’m really impressed. I must admit I didn’t have the highest of hopes for these products just because of the price point, but in fact both collections really are pretty decent, and considering the prices, I think they’re definitely worth a look.
Have you tried any of these products? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
