Ingle & Rhode Luxury Jewellers Q&A

Posted on July 5, 2015

Hi Guys!

Today I have a bit of a different post for you. I have an exclusive guest post interview / Q&A session with man-in-the-know, David Rhode from luxury jewellers Ingle and Rhode. David’s story began in 2006, when he was looking for an engagement ring but couldn’t find a jeweller who could tell him where their diamonds had come from, or the conditions under which their jewellery was produced. The more he looked into the industry, the more compromises he discovered he was being asked to make – from blood diamonds, to dirty gold, to sweatshops and child labour. Then in 2007 together David and his friend Tim Ingle launched Ingle & Rhode to offer an ethical alternative to the traditional luxury brands.

I’m a complete magpie when it comes to jewellery, and should probably admit that I own way more that my fair share! So I thought I’d take this opportunity to pick David’s brains on a few things…

1. What are your favourite jewellery trends right now?

‘Stacking sets are popular at the moment; they offer great versatility as you can swap rings in and out of the stack depending on your mood. Also, you can add to the stack on special occasions over the years, so each ring might have different memories associated with it. On a wider level, bespoke commissions continue to thrive. Nearly one in every five engagement rings is made to order – it’s great that so many people have the confidence and the opportunity to create something really unique.’

2. And what jewellery trends do you predict we’ll be seeing for AW15?

‘Rose gold has been popular for the last year or so, and increasingly we’re seeing this matched with fancy coloured sapphires – pinks and padparascha (orange/pinks) can work really well. It will be really interesting to see what other coloured gemstones people will try combining it with.’

3. Which one jewellery item do you think everyone should have?

‘A cocktail ring. It’s completely extravagant, a ring that’s impractical on a day to day basis – but lots of fun on a special occasion. It’s a great opportunity to use options outside of the ‘Big Four’ traditional engagement ring stones (diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald). It should be possible to create a really impressive ring without breaking the bank.’

4. When choosing gemstones, what should I look for?

‘The specifics will vary depending on what type of stone it is, but in general it will break down into colour, clarity, and treatment. You should judge colour on hue, intensity, and light/dark. So a blue sapphire might have a hint of violet or green about it, that’s it’s hue. The colour might be rich and strong, or the opposite – that’s its intensity. And obviously gemstones vary in terms of how light and dark they are, we generally want to avoid stones that are too far to one extreme or the other.’

‘With clarity, it’s important to compare apples with apples. You are totally justified in expecting your diamond to be free of visible inclusions or blemishes, but that isn’t the case with all coloured stones. Emeralds for example are very rarely totally clean, and it’s not fair to judge them by the same standards. You need to know what is a reasonable expectation for the stone you are choosing.’

5. Which celebrities do you find inspirational in terms of the jewellery they wear?

‘A lot of celebrities just assume that ‘bigger equals better’, and are keen to show off their huge diamonds. It’s always good to see pieces that a show a little more thought . Zoe Soldana’s emerald engagement ring was a really interesting choice, so was Scarlett Johansson’s Art Deco style ring.’

Thanks so much to David for your answers! I think I need to get myself a cocktail ring now!

I’d love to hear about your favourite jewellery item? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Jewellery | Thomas Sabo at Joshua James

Posted on November 29, 2014

Hi Guys!

Recently Joshua James asked me to take a look at their site and pick a piece of jewellery to share with you on my blog. I was completely over the moon, and to say I was spoilt for choice is an understatement! Joshua James stock many top brands including Thomas Sabo, Trollbeads, Pandora, Michael Kors, DKNY and Fiorelli, and after spending forever trying to decide, I went with a beautiful Thomas Sabo Rose Gold Purity of Lotos Ring.

This ring is brand new to Thomas Sabo and part of their Autumn 2014 Sterling Silver Glam & Soul Collection. It’s beautifully crafted from sterling silver and 18k rose gold plating, with a striking rose quartz as the centrepiece surrounded by dazzling white zirconia stone detail. It’s easily one of the prettiest rings I’ve ever seen!

I’m a massive jewellery fan but I’ve never had the pleasure of owning any Thomas Sabo pieces before. After looking through their collections I’ve realised they really do have a vast array of jewellery to suit different tastes, and I’m completely in love with the pretty Glam & Soul collection! I love that it’s kind of half way between high fashion and fine jewellery, using fashion styling with top quality materials to create stunning pieces.

I decided to team my ring with a similar sparkling nail polish look – I borrowed my Mum’s polishes and went for Ciate’s Amazing Gracie with Antique Brooch on top. The sparkly and glittery top coat of Antique Brooch really gave a lovely high shine glitzy finish but unfortunately my photos didn’t capture this, boo!

My new ring is so gorgeous, it’s pretty and delicate – Im not keen on chunky rings as I have short fingers – and this is just the right size for me. I’ts detailed without being over the top, and basically ticks all the boxes for me! I’d highly recommend you check out the Joshua James site if you’re looking for jewellery gifts this christmas!

Joshu James currently have 10% off all Thomas Sabo and Trollbeads products until 01/12/14, just use code BLACK10 at the checkout!

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

Jewel Candle Review & Giveaway!

Posted on November 12, 2014

Hi Guys!

I’ve really found my love for candles increasing as the seasons change, there’s something about a nice cosy evening at home with a candle lit that really appeals to me. My latest addition is a Jewel Candle in Cookies and Cream. If you haven’t heard of Jewel Candle you’ve definitely been missing out – every candle comes with a tiny package hiding somewhere in the wax, containing a surprise piece of jewellery – this is a must for any candle fan!

When you purchase a Jewel Candle you choose the candle scent, and also if you’d like a ring or earrings. I went for the ring option as I don’t wear earrings very often. Your jewellery item is guaranteed to be made of sterling silver, and valued up to £250! The exciting part is you don’t know what you’re going to get, or the value of your item!

The candle arrived securely packaged, and it was a lot bigger than I was expecting! It’s 16cm high and weights 800g. The burn time is around 120 hours too so I know I’ll get a lot of use out of it! I loved that you can see the silver foil package through the glass – it’s also nice that it’s placed towards the top of the candle so you don’t have to burn it forever to get the package out.

After around 4 hours the wax was soft enough to let me pick the foil parcel out. Getting it out was a messy job, so I’d recommend you prepare yourself before attempting extraction! I ended up picking it out with a pair of tweezers and unwrapping the package on some kitchen roll. The wax was really super slimy so I couldn’t take any pictures at this point!

I ended up with a lovely delicate silver ring that fits my middle finger perfectly. Jewel Candle used to tell you the value of your item on the tag but they don’t seem to do this any more, if you’re interested to find out the value you can always go to a jewellery shop. I’d imagine mr ring is worth somewhere around the £10 – £15 mark.

I’m really happy with my candle and my ring, I think a Jewel Candle would make an excellent christmas gift for a candle lover!

Azuni London Jewellery GIVEAWAY!

Posted on September 17, 2014

Hi Guys!

After recently discovering Azuni London it’s fast becoming one of my favourite jewellery sites. I have the gorgeous Etrusca Necklace – it’s a fabulously intricately constructed pendant, made in 24k gold plate. A stunning 6mm green onyx stone dangles in the centre of an open circle featuring delicate granulation detailing, and the pretty pendant is hung from a delicate gold plated chain. I love this necklace so much, it’s so unusual!

If you haven’t hear of Azuni London, the company was created by Ashley Marshall, who uses techniques such as hand texturing, beading, engraving and oxidising to add a unique edge to his designs with many pieces brought to life with delicate semi precious stones. Ashley gathers his inspiration from many different sources and interprets it into eclectic, individual pieces of jewellery.

There is also a story behind every Azuni collection. The beautifully hand textured Luna pieces have been delicately created to resemble the moon’s surface, whilst the passionate Love Twist range is reminiscent of the tattoos worn by sailors leaving their loved ones to go off to sea. From achingly romantic, via edgy, retro and bohemian cool, there is an effortlessly stylish Azuni collection to suit any mood.

Azuni London would like to give away an item of your choice from their site to one lucky reader. (I know, I’m spoiling you with all these giveaways lately!) MURU Jewellery Rose Gold Swallow Necklace | Review

Posted on June 25, 2014

Hi Guys!

I’m now officially the owner of the prettiest necklace possibly ever, from MURU Jewellery at Lulu Winter And it arrived on my birthday too 🙂 Lulu Winter very kindly sent it to me for review and to show you guys. Here’s a bit more about MURU jewellery if you haven’t heard of them –

Muru’s design philosophy is to create fashionable jewellery with inspirational meaning.

Throughout history jewellery has been worn for its meaning & symbolism. Muru’s Talisman range is about simplifying jewellery & making it more meaningful in the modern day. Each Muru design has an individual sentiment or significance that empowers & inspires the wearer… these are jewellery designs for inspirational living.

Each Muru creation is designed in London but draws inspiration from cultures & mythologies that stretch right across the globe. Muru’s trademark British style is the 3-D nature & intricate detailing of each piece – giving you delicate designs that are beautifully created in sterling silver, gold vermeil & rose gold vermeil.

rose gold bird necklace

The Talisman Swallow Necklace in rose gold vermeil is absolutely gorgeous! It arrived beautifully packaged in a white textured MURU embossed box. Inside, the necklace sat on a purple faux suede like background. Two little cards were included in the box, one with the MURU logo and another explaining what the swallow symbolizes. The chain itself is fine enough to be pretty, yet definitely sturdy. There’s no chance of that bad boy snapping! The dainty swallow is about 2cm across and has a tiny diamond for it’s eye.

How completely gorgeous is this necklace!? MURU have so many Talisman necklaces on offer, in white gold, yellow gold and rose gold. You could choose an acorn, a wishbone, a key, a feather, or a scarab to name but a few. I think these necklaces would look amazing layered up! You can also buy matching earrings and bracelets!

So what do you think, is this necklace the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen!?

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

Models Own Sun Hat Neon Nail Polish & 2emme Ring | Review

Posted on June 15, 2014

models own neon pink 2

Hi Guys!

I’m so happy I finally got my hands on a couple of the Models Own Polish For Tans nail polishes – ASOS had 20% off site wide for one day only the other week, so I quickly nabbed up Sun Hat (neon pastel pink) and Shades (neon pastel hot pink). They were originally £5 each so I paid £4 each with the discount. I also had next free day delivery with ASOS Premier – I’d definitely recommend signing up to this is you shop regularly at ASOS! 🙂

I was also sent this fab ring to show you from a brand new company called 2emme.

sun hat nail polish review

The Modes Own Polish for tans collection is definitely a must have for this summer, with each polish being a neon pastel shade to contrast with and enhance the colour of your tan! I don’t actually have a tan at the moment, and my skin is whiter than white, but I still love bright colours and I think this looks great!

You can get great coverage with one coat of this polish, but I’d recommend two coats for full opaqueness. I wore this for three days before removing and I had no chips at all.

Now on to my 2emme ring! I came across 2emme on Twitter when I saw them tweet about their rubberised rings, I thought they looked fab! This ring has three large diamante stones and a blue rubberised removable band. At first I thought it might be broken, then I realised the band of the ring was removable so you can cut it to size to fit whichever finger you like, which is really handy! Now i just need to pop a blob of glue on to stick it in place!

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried the Models Own Polish For Tans collection and what you thought?

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
