Fragrance: Jo Malone English Oak & Redcurrant

Posted on September 20, 2017

Hi Guys!

This Autumn, Jo Malone whisks us away to the depths of a magical forest to bring us their brand new English Oak collection. The inspiration behind the collection comes from¬†the iconic English oak tree, a powerful and noble symbol which lies deep in the heart of the English woodland. Think Sherwood Forest,¬†wandering knights and outlaws,¬†mystery and enchantment…

Surrender to the spell…¬†The magic of the forest. Climb. Dream. Drift. Wander through emerald moss carpets. Ripe redcurrants, ready to be picked. Succumb to the scent of the fabled oak. Noble. Wise. Infused into two spellbinding¬†scents. English Oak & Redcurrant. Bright. Embracing. Bewitching. English Oak & Hazelnut. Earthy. Enticing. Enchanting.

The English Oak collection comprises of two fragrances Рthe original concept, English Oak & Hazelnut, which is spicy and woody, using green hazelnut to create a greener, aromatic feel with a spicy spin, its mossy notes also help to reinforce the natural scent of the forest. While the second fragrance, English Oak & Redcurrant is a much rounder and juicier scent, with notes of rose, amber and white musk.

The main note in the collection is of course is oak, but more specifically Roasted Oak Absolute. I was interested to find out that oak wood itself isn’t widely used in perfumery – you’d usually find other woody notes such as Sandalwood or Cedarwood at the base of a fragrance, but¬†Jo Malone actually created their own process of roasting washed wood chips at high temperatures to exclusively create Roasted Oak Absolute – this technique gave the note a¬†a rich, deep and smoky-sweet element, resulting in a warm and enveloping base for the collection with¬†a fairytale-like quality, perfectly capturing the magic of the English forest.

I have English Oak and Redcurrant, which is just as gorgeous as you’d expect. It’s quite an unusual scent, yet very wearable and very ‘Jo Malone’ The Redcurrant and Rose notes instantly hit you giving a juicy yet floral opening, and the scent soon dries down to a warm, sweet base of Roasted Oak Absolute.

English Oak & Redcurrant

  • Top Note: Redcurrant –¬†An intensely fruity note with a tangy, juicy clarity which brings a sparkling contrast to the oak woodiness in the fragrance.
  • Heart Note: Rose –¬†As the fragrance unfurls, this opulent floral, with its spicy, honey facets wraps the scent with sumptuous texture.
  • Base Note: Roasted Oak Absolute –¬†A warm and compelling woody note that gives the addictive quality of roasted oak.

English Oak & Hazelnut

  • Top: Green Hazelnut –¬†A green note that induces a fresh and nutty feeling in the fragrance.
  • Heart: Cedarwood –¬†Its woody, dry character complements the heart with charismatic intensity.
  • Base: Roasted Oak Absolute

For fragrance combining, Jo Malone recommends layering English Oak & Hazelnut with Basil & Neroli for a lively, citrus fragrance, or try English Oak & Redcurrant with Blackberry & Bay for a truly fruity combination. You can also always combine both English Oak fragrances together for a fresh, spicy scent highlighted with a bright and juicy twist.

The collection contains a range of products, including Cologne in 30ml (£44.00) and 100ml (£88.00) as well as Body & Hand Wash (£30.00), Body Crème (£52.00) and a Home Candle (£44.00)

Jo Malone’s English Oak collection is available now at Jo Malone and¬†Selfridges

10 Spring Fragrances to add to your Collection: L’Occitane, Givenchy, Nina Ricci & More!

Posted on May 29, 2017

Hi Guys!

It’s a beautiful bank holiday (apart from an intense rain and thunder, but that’s to be expected, right?) and I’ve been playing in the garden with Fred whilst eating ice pops ūüôā I thought I’d take a breather and share with you my top ten must have fragrances for Spring 2017 – enjoy!

Starting with one of my absolute favourite fragrances of the last few months, L’Occitane¬†Terre De Lumiere (¬£58.00 for 50ml at L’Occitane) – this is L’Occitane’s latest fragrance release, and the name literally means “land of light”. Terre De Lumiere is¬†L’Occitane’s first ever gourmand aromatic fragrance, consisting primarily of edible notes such as honey and almond. It’s¬†a beautifully light and evocative¬†fragrance that’s both warm and enveloping. Terre De Lumiere is inspired by the¬†special time of day in Provence known as the Golden Hour, which is a short moment at dusk as the sun falls and the sky fills with golden and purple light, leaving the¬†air filled with the most fragrant Proven√ßal scents. It truly is a stunning scent, and¬†I really can’t get enough of it!

  • Top Notes: Bergamot, Ambrette Seed and Pink Pepper.
  • Heart Note: Lavender Honey.
  • Base Notes: Acacia Flower, Bitter Almond Essence, Tonka Bean and White Musk.

Next, the beautiful Givenchy Live Irresistible EDT¬†– (¬£43.00 for 40ml at¬†Feelunique) This is actually my first experience with Givenchy fragrances, and hopefully not my last! Live Irresistible is a bright, floral and fruity fragrance, that’s perfect for every day wear. It opens with¬†sparkling top notes of Crisp Pear, fresh Green Apple and juicy Raspberry, leading to¬†tantalising Rose and energising Pimento Berries at the heart, just before the fragrances closes with a sensual base¬†of Light Woods.

  • Top notes: Pear, green apple, raspberry
  • Middle notes: Rose, pimento berries
  • Base notes: Light woods

Moving on to¬†something a little heavier now, Paco Rabanne Olympea Intense EDP (¬£46.00 for 30ml at Boots) This is a beautiful warm and sensual oriental fragrance, with a¬†tempting salty-vanilla amber accord. The original Olympea fragrance is already a favourite of mine, so I just knew I’d love this more intense version. Olympea Intense is very similar to Olympea, but stronger, and definitely sweeter. This is a commanding and seductive fragrance that’s perfect for evening.

Olympea Intense takes centre stage with its famously tempting Salty-Vanilla Amber accord. At the heart of the fragrance, tactile Orange Blossom swathed in White Pepper creates intense sensuality, before diving headfirst into the extreme seduction of a White Amber base.

  • Top notes:¬†White Pepper, Orange Flower and Grapefruit Flower.
  • Middle notes:¬†Salty Vanilla.
  • Base notes:¬†Cedarwood and White Amber.

Next we have Nina Ricci¬†Luna EDT (¬£34.50 for 30ml at¬†Debenhams) – this is an oriental gourmand fragrance that’s described as¬†mysterious, daring and alluring. Luna opens with fruity notes of refreshing Lime and Tangerine which lead to a floral heart of Immortelle and Jasmine, sparking a vibrant burst of floral citrus. The fragrance is rounded off with a warming base of sweet Caramel and Vanilla, with notes of alluring Liquorice and Musk. I’ve worn this a couple of times now and it’s fast becoming a new favourite.

  • Top Notes:¬†Wild Berries, Orange Blossom, Lime and Tangerine.
  • Heart Note:¬†Caramel, Immortelle, Jasmine and Pear.
  • Base Notes:¬†Sandalwood, Vanilla, Liquorice and Musk.

Next, Elie Saab¬†Le Parfum Resort Collection 2017¬†(¬£42.75 for 50ml at John Lewis) – I’m a big fan of Elie Saab fragrances so I was excited to try their latest scent¬†– Resort Collection EDT is described as¬†a luxurious white floral fruity fragrance,¬†inspired by the glamorous world of the Cannes Film Festival. The fragrance opens with juicy Red Mandarin, leading to¬†Orange Blossom, Jasmine and Pomegranate Nectar at the heart, and a rich base of smooth Patchouli.

  • Top Note: Red Mandarin.
  • Heart Notes: Orange Blossom, Jasmine and Pomegranate Nectar.
  • Base Note:¬†Patchouli.

On to Jo Malone Garden Lilies (¬£46.00 for 30ml at John Lewis) – this is one of four fragrances in the ‘Bloomsbury Set’, which as a collective were inspired by the free spirited group of artists¬†of the same name. The¬†scents aim was to capture the essence¬†of an unconventional life¬†in their legendary country house in Sussex…’The lily pond at dawn, bold blue hyacinth,¬†absinthe afternoons and golden linseed¬†on paint-stained hands.¬†Warming whisky and sweet pipe tobacco.¬†The secrets of waxed floors¬†burnished by footsteps in the night.’

Garden Lilies is a wonderfully fresh floral that truly captures the essence of a new dawn – I know that sounds completely cheesy but it really does! The fragrance opens with Water Lily, an aquatic floral with a wonderful dewy softness, and the floral heart of Green Sap and Ylang Ylang leads to a base of powdery and clean White Musk, with a hint of Vanilla.

  • Top Notes:¬†Water Lily.
  • Heart Note:¬†Green Sap and Ylang Ylang.
  • Base Notes: White¬†Musk and Vanilla.

Next we have MissGuided Babe Power EDP (¬£25.00 for 80ml at Superdrug) – I feel like this fragrance is quite the opposite of the above Garden Lilies which is quite delicate and nuanced. Babe Power is just as confident and in-your-face as you’d expect. This is¬†MissGuided’s first scent, and it’s the perfect embodiment of the¬†MissGuided brand –¬†designed to evoke a feeling of strength, confidence and femininity.

  • Top Notes:¬†Grapefruit Zest, Sour Cherry, Pink Pepper, Crisp Apple, Pineapple and Rhubarb.
  • Heart Notes:¬†Orange Blossom, Peony and Jasmine.
  • Base Notes:¬†Vanilla, Candy Floss, Sensual Musk, Amber Crystals.

Now on to the most affordable of the bunch,¬†& Other Stories Crinoline Violet (¬£19.00 for 50ml at Other Stories Stores) – yes this is technically a body fragrance, but I wanted to include it anyway as it’s such a lovely scent. Crinoline Violet is one of two new body fragrances in the popular Cotton Care range. It caresses the skin with it’s soft gentle touch, infused with¬†hints of Violet for a dreamy Cotton scent – this fragrance is¬†calm, kind and¬†easy-going.

Next I have a brand you don’t really hear of that often when it comes to fragrance – Abercrombie & Fitch first Instinct for Women (¬£50.00 for 50ml at Debenhams) –¬†First Instinct was¬†inspired by the first moment of attraction, when two people‚Äôs worlds collide and a spark is ignited. It is the fragrant interpretation of that exciting first glance and initial connection. First Instinct for Women is¬†a very feminine scent, that’s fruity, floral¬†and fun.¬†It’s¬†both sweet and juicy and perfect for wearing both day and evening.

  • Top Notes:¬†Magnolia, Grapefruit Zest, Passion Fruit and Wild Orange Flower
  • Heart Notes: Butterfly Orchid and¬†Water Lily.
  • Base Notes: Warm Amber,¬†Tonka and Musk.

And lastly, not a fragrance to be overlooked, Hollister Wave 2 (¬£32.00 for 50ml at Superdrug) – this is a gorgeous summery scent inspired by the Californian skies – it’s warm, free-spirited, fun and exciting. This sun-kissed creation entices you from the first impression with sunlit Peach, refreshing Coconut Water and sparkling Mandarin. Exotic Tiare Flower, Water Lily and Pink Freesia float in the air with a dreamy and addictive trail of White Sands, Driftwood and Vanilla Orchid. In my opinion this is definitely must-try scent.

  • Top Notes:¬†Mandarin Orange, Coconut Nectar and Peach.
  • Heart Note:¬†Water Lily, Pink Freesia and Tiare Flower.
  • Base Notes: Driftwood,¬†Sand and¬†Orchid.

Thanks so much for reading, and I hope you enjoyed my post. Id love to hear if you’ve tried any of these fragrances? xxx

Fragrance: Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka Cologne Intense

Posted on January 24, 2017

Hi Guys!

There aren’t many things that excite me more than a new Jo Malone release – and today I have the brand new Myrrh & Tonka Cologne Intense to share with you…

‘There is an atmosphere of addiction and carnal richness to this fragrance which appeals to both men and women. At the top there is a hint of lavender and a floral note, creating a comforting and voluptuous opening. The big, rich heart and base note of Myrrh is sensual. And the Tonka brings generosity. It’s captivating and mesmerising’ – Mathilde Bijaoui, Master Perfumer.

Myrrh & Tonka Cologne Intense really is just as wonderful as I was expecting – and I think it may now be my favourite Jo Malone fragrance. It’s a warm, rich and creamy scent, that’s comforting yet sensual. I’m a complete sucker for Jo Malone’s¬†Cologne Intense range, which are heavier, warmer and more of what you’d call an evening fragrance, compared to their standard colognes.

That said, Myrrh & Tonka is actually surprisingly wearable – I say that in the sense that this isn’t and overly heavy ‘evening’ scent. It’s not what I would call intoxicating, like some intense fragrances can be, but it’s just powerful enough¬†to keep that sensual, enticing element which we know and love from Jo Malone.

Myrrh & Tonka¬†opens with a top note of lavender – which I initially thought may not exactly be ‘my thing’ but boy was I wrong! The Lavender is sweet and slightly powdery, leading to a heart of Omumbiri Myrrh¬†combined with¬†rich accents of warm Almond, Vanilla and aromatic Tobacco of the Tonka Bean at the base – and it¬†really is just the most beautiful note combination. Though initially the lavender makes it seem quite a feminine scent, after the dry down it’s actually very gender-neutral, and I can see both men and women easily falling in love with this fragrance.

  • Top Note:¬†Lavender
  • Heart Note: Omumbiri Myrrh
  • Base Note:¬†Tonka

As expected, this scent is a lingerer, it lasts for hours and hours, and as the day goes on you’re left with a wonderful rich and creamy aroma, that’s both seductive and noticeable, whilst being luxuriously understated.

I’d describe Myrrh & Tonka as¬†one of those rare fragrances that literally turns heads. It’s distinct and enticing, and I can guarantee that if you wear it, people around you will be asking about your perfume!

Myrrh & Tonka is a definite must-try for Jo Malone fans – both male and female – and if you’re a fan of combining your scents, it’s worth pairing it¬†with Jo Malone’s classic Pomegranate Noir for a fruity element,¬†or¬†even Velvet Rose and Oud for a more floral take.

Myrrh & Tonka is ¬£105 for 100ml, available now at¬†Jo Malone, and there’s also a half-size 50ml bottle available too (which I think is new size as I haven’t seen any Cologne Intense fragrances available in 50ml before) which you can snap up for ¬£74.00¬†here.

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Posted on December 12, 2016

Hi Guys!

Can you believe it’s only a couple of weeks until Christmas! I really need to get my house organised – we finally have a tree – but no decorations yet! ūüėÄ I’m also now starting to publish my gift guides, which I’m kicking off today with a beauty guide including¬†a fantastic selection of gifts under¬†¬£25.00. Enjoy!

Let’s start with the very festive looking¬†Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Christmas Set¬†(¬£15.50) – most people will be familiar with this¬†iconic product, as it’s literally one of the most popular cleansers¬†ever. Did you also know it’s won over 120 awards too! This gift set contains everything you need to get super clean skin in mere minutes – there’s a 100ml tube of¬†Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser,¬†2x Pure Muslin Cloths, and a Cleansing Guide included, all beautifully encased in a specially-designed luxury Christmas gift box that’s just perfect for gifting.

Next we have the¬†Mini Moderns Festival of Light Candle Collection (¬£26.00) – Ok I know this is over ¬£25.00, but only by a smidge so I’ve allowed it to sneak in this post!¬†This super cute candle set contains¬†four¬†of Mini Moderns’ classic print designs on four wonderfully¬†scented mini sized candles.¬†The fragrances included are –¬†Whitby (Sea Spray),¬†Pavilion (Gin Fizz)¬†Darjeeling (Tea and Fig) and¬†Paisley Crescent (Eastern Orange Blossom).

And on to the¬†Ted Baker Sweet Treats Gem Trio Gift Set¬†(¬£22.50) – I absolutely love Ted Baker for Christmas gifts, they always come up with beautifully packaged goodies, and this Sweet Treats Gem Trio set would make either one fantastic gift, or three individual¬†stocking fillers. Each ‘gem’ contains a travel sized Ted Baker perfume and a full sized nail polish. The fragrances included are really lovely and wearable, including¬†Mia, Polly and Lyla scents – perfect for any girl who is constantly on the go.

Next we have the¬†Orla Kiely Geranium Purse Spray Gift Set (¬£22.00) –¬†This beautiful set from Orla Kiely includes¬†a mini cosmetic bag and a 25ml Geranium Purse Spray, housed in a pretty, decorative gift box, with a classic Orla Kiely print.

Next, the¬†Makeup Forever Artistic Smoky Eye Kit (¬£14.00) – this is a fab little gift set containing a selection of Makeup Forever minis. There’s an Excessive Lash Mascara, Aqua XL Eye Pencil in M60 (brown) and also one in M10 (black) – so you can create some gorgeous smoky eye looks this Christmas.

If lips are more your thing, the Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector Collection (£25.40) is a definite must have. I love Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfectors, they leave your lips feeling incredibly silky smooth and nourished, with a natural tint of colour and a glossy shine. This set includes shades 01 Rose shimmer and 02 Apricot shimmer.

Moving on to fragrance, the brand new¬†Accessorize Lovelily Perfume¬†(¬£19.00) has recently caught my attention. I have to tell you I’m completely in love with this scent. It’s super feminine with¬†notes of raspberry, orange, jasmine and sweet vanilla, and it really¬†reminds me of my youth, I think because it’s quite a young and sweet fragrance. This scent is a fantastic bargain at only ¬£19.00 for 75ml – if I didn’t have this already, it’d definitely be on my¬†Christmas list this year!

Continuing with scent, another bargain fragrance is the new¬†Monsoon Rose Gold EDP¬†– which¬†is currently on offer for only ¬£19.33. Rose Gold EDP has top notes of sparkling lemon, soft fruit and ozonic scents, heart notes of¬†velvety rose, tuberose, neroli and cyclamen, and a base of Eastern woods, vanilla, mosses, musk and balsamic amber. This is definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a new reasonably priced fragrance.

And the¬†Jo Malone Geranuim & Walnut Hand Cream¬†(¬£22.00) – We all know Jo Malone makes some of the best and most beautifully packaged products, but if you’re looking something at the cheaper end of the spectrum, this Geranium & Walnut Hand Cream would make the perfect gift for any Jo Malone fan this Christmas, without breaking the bank. This cream has a¬†lightweight, delicately scented formula including¬†Apricot Kernel oil which absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving hands soft and moisturised.

Next the Pixi by Petra Rosy Radiance Palette (£19.00) РI often think Pixi makeup is quite underrated, and this palette is a very reasonably priced considering how much product is included. The Rosy Radiance Palette Rosette from Pixi is an all-in-one colour kit including an array of rose, crème and taupe hues that are able to sculpt and enhance cheeks, add a wash of colour to eyes and fill in sparse brows. The Palette Contains: 8x Eye Shades, 3x Brow Shades, 3x Face Shades and a Duo Applicator.

And lastly, the¬†L’Occitane Delightful Floral Hand Cream Trio (¬£22.00) – this lovely little set would make the perfect Christmas gift for any L’Occitane fan. It contains 3x 30ml hand creams in scents Cherry Blossom,¬†Arl√©sienne¬†and¬†Pivoine¬†Flora – which is a real bargain at only ¬£7.33 each!

I’d love to hear what’s top of your Christmas list this year? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Christmas: Must Have Candles inc Diptyque, Jo Malone, Etta French & More

Posted on December 8, 2016

Hi Guys!

What is Christmas without a beautiful scented candle? I love nothing more than filling my home with festive scents to really get me into the Christmas spirit – and as there are so many wonderful wintry fragrances candles around right now,¬†I’ve gathered together a¬†selection of the best luxury scented candles to share with you today – enjoy!

Starting with the¬†Diptyque¬†Epice et Delices Candle (from ¬£28.00) – Diptyque is the brand that really does tick all the boxes when it comes to candles. Their packaging is always striking and distinctive, and the scents are also to die for. This ‘Epice et Delices’ (Spices and Delights) candle is part of a trio of limited edition candles for winter 2016. Epice et Delices is a wonderfully warming spicy scent with notes of¬†gingerbread,¬†cinnamon, honey¬†and star anise. It’s just perfect for a cost night in by the fire.

Next we have the¬†Jo Malone Incense & Embers Candle (¬£42.00) – Another favourite brand of mine, Jo Malone’s Christmas products are always on my wish list,¬†and this¬†Incense & Embers¬†scented candle is just as gorgeous as I expected. The scent is sophisticated, relaxing and calming¬†with notes of¬†smoky incense,¬†silver fir and white pepper. An element of sensuality is added with notes napa leather layered on¬†a base of elegant vetiver and golden amber. This really is a must have candle for winter.

I also have this absolutely stunning¬†Voluspa Classic Maison Luxury Candle in Spruce Cuttings (¬£45.00) – now Voluspa is a brand I’ve never tried before, and I’m so glad I’ve discovered them! This candle is just so beautiful, with a striking festive green iridescent polished glass finish and matching lid – it really does feel luxurious and special. Their Spruce Cuttings scent is woody yet crisp and fresh, and instantly transports me to a winter wonderland. And though high in price, this candle will also last up to 100 hours, so it’s definitely worth the splurge.

The La Montana Three Kings Candle (£35.00) is another beautiful, warming winter fragrance. This scent includes notes of cedarwood mingled with trampled pine needles, while frankincense and myrrh, mix with traditional, homemade turrón (almond nougat) and a brightening tot of brandy. The scent is heavy and evocative, and slightly masculine with almost an element of cologne to it. I really love this scent and this would also make a wonderful Christmas gift.

Next we have the¬†Etta French Nutmeg, Orange and Cinnamon Candle (¬£34.00) – if you haven’t heard of Etta French, they’re basically like a high end version of Jewel Candle – yes they have little packages of jewellery inside their candles! I really love this idea – I haven’t dug mine out yet so look out for another post in the coming weeks where I’ll show you what’s hidden inside this beautiful candle.

Onto the fragrance now though – Nutmeg, Orange & Cinnamon¬†is a limited edition Christmas Fragrance; it’s described as the¬†perfect seasonal soothing¬†scent,¬†evocative of cold winter days, fire lit nights and Christmas Cheer. I’m a big fan of cinnamon so this fragrance really appealed to me, it’s spicy, comforting and just smells exactly like Christmas!

Next The White Company Mistletoe Candle (£34.00 Рbehind reindeer) РThis is a new limited edition scent, with notes of aromatic spruce, woody cedar, sweet muguet and rich amber. This scent encapsulates the essence of festive flirtation and kisses the air with its warming heart. This lovely candle is housed in a pretty ribbed glass vessel, with no visible logo, and its outer packaging is a beautiful white drum finished with a metallic ribbon. The whole look is elegant and understated Рperfect for gifting a loved one this Christmas.

And lastly the Annick Goutal Noel Candle (£44.00) Рthis is a classic Christmas candle from Annick Goutal. The fragrance is instantly recognisable Рfresh, fresh and full-bodied, spicy and fruity. The flavour of citrus fruits, orange and mandarin from Brazil, the slightly acid bark of the pine from Siberia, heavy with an unforgettable scent of resin. A scent with the clarity of snow and the warmth of a house filled with impatient, excited children on Christmas Eve. This candle would make a wonderful Christmas treat!

And lastly I also wanted to mention¬†this guy I picked up from¬†Paperchase – Minty, as I’ve called him, is an awesome mint green coloured decorative reindeer – I love him!

I’d love to hear which candles you’ve been enjoying this winter? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
