Huda Beauty Latest Launches – Worth the Splurge?

Posted on October 23, 2018

I have a few of Huda’s latest launches to share with you today – let’s start by looking at the Rose Gold Remastered Palette!

I probably don’t have to explain that the Rose Gold Remastered Palette is a re-launch of Huda’s original Rose Gold Palette. My first thought would be why re-launch a product that isn’t actually that old? Well Huda explained that the original Rose Gold Palette was basically the best she could do at the time due to financial constraints, and now the company is doing well, she wanted to launch the palette again with both improved formulas and packaging.

The Rose Gold Remastered Palette promises redesigned shades with creamier, more intense pigmentation. It includes 18 luxurious, talc free eyeshadows in four key textures – 8 buttery mattes, 8 melted metal shadows, 1 wet & dry black shadow and 1 pressed pearls shadow. The outer packaging also showcases Huda’s own favourite look and includes a large mirror (which wasn’t included in the original palette)

I’ve included Huda’s own swatches as mine were unfortunately quite abysmal. So, all shades in this palette have been ‘remastered’ with some also being removed and completely changed. In terms of updates from the original palette, the mattes we’re definitely the best improvement to me, they’re much better in terms of pigmentation and they feel easier to work with too – I particularly love shades Doll Face and Demure. The Melted Metal shadows can now be applied with a brush too, yay! These were slightly problematic in the original palette as brush application literally did nothing, and not everyone likes applying makeup with their fingers. The new Melted Metals are also now wonderfully buttery smooth and give the most beautiful high shine finish. The one shade which I wasn’t wowed on though was Black Truffle. This is the only one which has been designed to be used both wet and dry (dry as an eyeshadow and wet as a liner) and I found this didn’t give a very intense black as an eyeliner unfortunately. The rest of the palette more than makes up for this though as I know wouldn’t use this as an eyeliner any way.

Overall, this is a gorgeous palette, but it’s definitely not a must have if you already have the original Rose Gold palette. The Remastered palette is a great upgrade, offering more intense pigmentation, and the shadows just overall feel improved compared to the original.

I also have the #FauxFilter Foundation – this is very much a full coverage foundation, available in 30 shades, promising a flawless long-lasting finish. Described as an ‘intelligent liquid’, this foundation contains hydrating Argan Oil and Centella Asiatica to help the formula blend seamlessly into the skin, giving a radiant matte powder finish that’s neither dry nor cakey.

Firstly, I picked Vanilla, which is completely the wrong shade (I always think I’m paler than I am) – so I decided to try the foundation out on a day where I didn’t have to go out and horrify the public. My mid-thirties skin isn’t always a fan of matte finish foundations, as they tend to leave my complexion looking a bit flat and feeling dry, which then requires more products to rectify. The FauxFilter Foundation promises a matte yet luminous finish (somehow!) so I was interested to see how it would work.

Well, I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. This did not cling to any dry areas, it didn’t feel drying, and it didn’t make my face look older than my years! I liked the matte finish, it wasn’t too matte, it was nice, flawless, and as natural as I think you can get for a full coverage foundation. I wouldn’t say this gives any luminosity like the description says, and I will say this is a heavier feeling foundation – you can notice this is on the skin, which may be an issue or may not depending on personal preference. Overall I liked the finish, it was very full coverage, even with the smallest amount of product – this will literally cover everything. Personally, I’d probably save this foundation for ‘going out, out’ evening wear rather than every day use.

The Easy Bake Loose Powder is another new product, and came with plenty of controversy, but I’m not going to get into that now. This loose powder has been designed to create an airbrushed, long-lasting complexion whilst blurring the appearance of pores and fine lines, and holding makeup in place all day long.

Again, powders and baking can also be problematic for me. I have dry skin, and the fact that I’m the wrong side of 30 means I have to be careful with any sort of under eye coverage. The Easy Bake Loose Powder comes in a selection of shades for all skin tones (I have shade Pound Cake), and it has a super light and silky texture. I found that if I dusted it on lightly it worked really well setting my under eye concealer, it definitely kept my makeup in place and didn’t feel too drying. It’s also great for controlling shine on other areas of the face too.

And the Demi Matte Lipsticks – the perfect antidote to those that are very much over the super-matte lip trend, Huda’s new Demi Matte lipsticks promise the perfect combination of a comfortable, hydrating cream liquid lipstick with a non-moving, velvety, satin finish.

The idea of a Demi-matte liquid lipstick really appeals – something that stays put but doesn’t feel drying on the lips sounds like a Godsend. These liquid lipsticks include something called ‘Maxi-Lip™’ to stimulate collagen and hydrate, as well as hint of menthol, to give a temporary cooling effect and tingling sensation to leave lips looking visibly plumper.

The product itself has a thick, creamy formula, that gives a fully opaque finish in one swipe. I’d say the finish is shinier than what I’d expect from a Demi-matte – though if you choose to blot, this definitely mattifies the finish.

I have to say I’m in love with these lipsticks. I have shades Mogul, a light nude pink, Boy Collector an intense true red, and Day Slayer, a light nude beige. All three shades are very comfortable on the lips, and have an element of dry down that helps them stay put, but without drying the lips in any way.

(I just wanted to add a quick note here to let you know I’ll be reviewing the Precious Stones Palettes in a separate post – look out for this in the next few days!)

Overall, I’m really impressed with all the above products, and I’m really looking forward to the New Nude Palette next, it looks so pretty! Are you loving any Huda Beauty products right now? Let me know! xx

Too Faced Melted Matte-tallic Liquid Lipsticks

Posted on October 11, 2018

Too Faced have so many new products launching right now, there’s the 20th Anniversary Collection, the Tutti Fruity Collection, and not forgetting the brand new Christmas gift sets! Today however, I have some of their latest lipsticks from the Melted range – the Melted Matte-tallics…

Drench lips in an uber – luxurious, velvety matte formula that coats lips in a unique, brushed metal matte finish. The formula remains lighweight and comfortable with up to 24 hours wear, without compromising on the dazzling dimensional matte effect.

The Melted Matte-tallic lipsticks come in 13 shades, and the ones I have above are as follows –

  • Faking It – a warm toned medium nude.
  • Breakup Makeup– a pretty nude pink.
  • Bitch, I’m Too Faced – an intense true red.
  • I Wanna Rock With You – a deep burgundy.
  • Scream My Name – an intense deep purple.
  • The Real Teal – a deep blue toned teal.
  • Magic Metal Transformer – different from the above lipsticks, the Transformer uses opalescent prismatic pearls to give the lips an iridescent finish. This has been made to use over liquid lipsticks, or on its own.

Firstly I must apologise as I just couldn’t get the photos of my swatches to do justice to the unusual metallic yet matte finish, so I’ve attached a stock photo of swatches which I think is pretty good. (Note the far right swatch is the teal shade with the Transformer on top)

The liquid formula is smooth and light, and feels comfortable to wear – it is slightly drying but I think that’s to be expected with most liquid lipsticks that fully dry down. Too Faced promise ’24-hour long-wearing color’ which I have no idea if it’s true or not. I’m not sure who could wear a lipstick for 24 hours straight! Anyway, the finish like I’ve already mentioned, is quite unusual. Too Faced describes it really well – ‘brushed metal’ is the term they use – metallic, yet matte. They kind of have a sheen, but no shine. It’s definitely something different! In terms of wear, they do last a long time, and are completely transfer proof when they dry down. I actually think these are pretty fun and different, and definitely worth checking out if you’re a Too Faced fan! My favourite shade is Breakup Makeup 🙂

Too Faced Melted Matte-tallic Liquid Lipsticks are available now at Debenhams and Too Faced.

Smashbox + Vlada Petal Metal Collection

Posted on July 27, 2018

The latest collection from Smashbox is one of the most beautiful cosmetic collections I’ve seen so far this year. In collaboration with instagram star Vlada Haggerty (who’s also Smashbox’s Lip-Editor-in-Chief) the Petal Metal range combines high-shine metallic finishes with gorgeous rose gold hues.

The 16 piece curated collection features Vlada’s signature shade of rose gold. Inspired by her lip drip art (check out her amazing work at @vladamua) this magnetic makeup collection features Vlada-approved statement-makers for the face, eyes, lip and body.

“The beauty of this collection is that the shades don’t compete or create a dull, monochromatic effect. Instead, they complement every skin tone and together build beautiful layers of pink that add warmth, radiance and a bouquet of boldness to your look!” – Vlada Haggerty.

Firstly, I have the Petal Metal Shimmer Spray – this is an all-over, lightweight illuminating spray that mists on multi-dimensional pearls, leaving skin hydrated and radiant with a dewy glow. Each spritz captures and reflects light, making skin appear smoother and more luminous. You can use it on your face before applying makeup or on your body to make your skin look beautifully radiant. I tried my best to get a decent photo swatch, but the sparkles were so super fine they didn’t show up in my photos. This product really does give the most lovely dewy glisten to the skin – if you like a glowing, luminous complexion you should definitely give this a go.

I also have one of the Always On Petal Metal Liquid Lipsticks – there are three shades available, and I have XO, Vlada, which is a metallic rose gold. This liquid lipstick promises 8 hours of wear, and is packed with jojoba, apricot and sunflower oils to deliver a light, metallic matte sheen. The finish really is the perfect combination of metallic and matte, and one swipe gives amazing full opacity. I didn’t try this for the full 8 hours I must admit, but it did last a good few hours without wearing off at all.

And lastly the beautiful Petal Metal Powder Highlighter – again this is available in three shades, and I have Prismatic Pearl, which is a gorgeous iridescent rose gold.

The formula is a luxurious gel-powder with a super soft and silky feel. Prismatic Pearl is such an unusual shade too, it’s an intense pink, but has a bright gold with and almost green tinged irisdescent shine – you really have to try it yourself to see what I mean! If you love striking coloured highlighters like I do, this is a must have for your makeup collection!

Swatches above – Powder Highlighter in Prismatic Pearl (left), Liquid Lipstick in XO, Vlada (right).

The high-shine rose gold chrome packaging is just gorgeous, and I’m completely in love with the Powder Highlighter – the iridescent pink shade is just so striking and beautiful. I think I’ll also get great use out of the shimmer Spray too. This is such a gorgeous collection all round, and I definitely recommend you check out the products and try them if you can. What do you think of this collection? Let me know!

The Petal Metal Collection is available now at Smashbox and Boots.

Beauty: What’s New at Dior for SS18

Posted on April 10, 2018

Hi Guys!

Happy Tuesday! I have a gorgeous bundle of brand new products from Dior at FeelUnique to share with you today. I’ve got a new foundation and concealer, as well as a couple of lip products and a fabulous new serum. Let’s get stuck in!

Starting with the DiorSkin Forever Undercover Foundation (Top swatch, £34.00) – the DiorSkin Forever Undercover Foundation promises 24 hour full coverage with a natural matte finish, that’s kiss proof, touch proof and life proof. Unfortunately I have slightly the wrong shade for me, this is 020 Beige Clair which is just a bit too dark. Not to worry though, in the interest of science I still went ahead and tried it out in the privacy of my own home!

The DiorSkin Forever Undercover Foundation consistency is a light, runny liquid, and offers high pigmentation to give a pretty much full coverage finish, depending on how you apply it. I found that a quick application with fingers gives a nice medium level of coverage, but application with a beauty blender gives a more full coverage, flawless look.

And I have to say, Dior wasn’t wrong when they said this foundation has a natural matte finish. There’s nothing chalky about this foundation whatsoever – which I have to be careful of when it comes to matte foundations as my skin tends to be on the dry side. The finish is very true to life, and almost undetectable. If you’re looking for a lightweight, full coverage foundation that looks super natural, this could definitely be the one for you.

I also have the DiorSkin Forever Concealer (£21.00) – which is the perfect partner for the above foundation. It contains 25% more pigment than the foundation, and promises to instantly camouflage imperfections. It’s also water resistant and gives up to 8 hours of wear.

So for this product I do have the right shade! 101 Ivory was just right for my pale complexion. And just like I expected, this concealer is basically a more intense version of the forever Foundation. It worked fantastically well on my under eye area, giving natural looking coverage, without emphasising my fine lines.

Onto lips now, the new Dior Addict Lipglow Backstage Pros Matte (right swatch, £26.00) is the first colour reviver lip balm by Dior, combining the comfort of a balm with a touch of colour for a tailor-made flush of pink. Its secret lies in a perfect balance between make-up and lip care. The formula reacts to the pH level of your lips, providing a natural flush of customised pink. In terms of comfort, the formula is enriched with mango butter, ensuring up to 24-hour hydration.

I also have one of the new Rouge Dior Liquid Lip Stains (£27.50) – available in three finishes – matte, satin and metal, these lip stains promise intense couture colour with a 12 hour extreme long-wear finish.

The Rouge Dior Liquid formula contains mineral wax, ultra-fine silica powder and oils to give intense pigmentation, which perfectly glides over the lips for a long-wearing result. Equipped with a reservoir that takes up and deposits just the right amount of product, its fine applicator is the perfect tool for outlining the lips with precision.

I have shade 625 Mysterious Matte, which I’d describe as a fairly deep rose pink. I have to say, this is easily now one of my favourite matte liquid lipsticks. It’s not drying whatsoever, and though it’s not completely smudge or transfer proof, the finish is just beautiful, and most importantly, extremely comfortable on the lips.

And lastly I have the new Dior Capture Youth Cream Serum Glow (£75.00) – described as a radiance concentrate, the Dior Capture Youth Crème Serum Glow is composed of 80% naturally derived ingredients, including Kakadu plum which is 100 times more concentrated in vitamin C than an orange.

The serum offers an exfoliating effect, whilst being specially formulated to be gentle on skin. It promises to leave you with an invigorated, fresh, glowing complexion.

Dior advise to use this with their Capture Youth Cream, where you just add a couple of drops of serum to the cream before application. Or you can of course just use this as a booster with your normal moisturiser, which is what I’ve been doing. I’ve used this a few times now and and though on the pricey side, I think it’s a fantastic booster to add to your normal moisturiser if your skin’s in need of a bit of extra TLC. There are also other options available, including a Redness Soother, Plump Filler, and Lift Sculptor to name a few, so you can choose depending on your own skin concerns.

You can shop the above Dior products now at FeelUnique.

I’d love to hear if you’re a fan of Dior beauty? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Beauty: Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip Collection & Rose Skincare Products

Posted on January 29, 2018

Hi Guys!

Just before Christmas I received the most gorgeous PR package from Pixi Beauty – it was a beautiful locked box (that I’m totally keeping for storing pretty things in!) containing their brand new MatteLast Liquid Lip Collection, as well as a couple of their new rose themed skincare products. Let’s take a look a the lipsticks first…

The new MatteLast Liquid Lipsticks (£16.00) promise to be extremely longwearing & comfortable to wear, they’re infused with rosehip oil to leave lips feeling hydrated, whilst giving lips intense pigmentation with a matte finish.

Firstly, the shade selection is beautiful. Pixi have launched this collection with five nude pink shades that are all easy to wear, perfect day to day colours, for a ‘your lips but better’ natural look. The formula is excellent, it feels lightweight on the lips and it’s intensely pigmented, with only one ‘dip’ needed to fully cover your lips. It also dries down quickly to a full matte finish which pretty much lasts all day. I have to say this is one of the best matte finish liquid lipsticks I’ve tried!

There are currently five natural shades available (left to right) –

  • Au Naturelle – a light nude peach.
  • Matte Beige – a warm toned beige.
  • Pastel Petal – a pink toned beige.
  • Really Rose – a mid rose pink.
  • Evening Rose – a deep rose pink.

You can see that some of the shades are quite similar – Matte Beige has slightly more of a caramel tone compared to Pasted Petal, and Really Rose is slightly lighter in colour than Evening Rose. Really Rose is definitely my favourite!

Just a side note – I’ve just quickly looked at the Pixi site and noticed they’ve now added another shade to the collection – Prettiest Pink, which looks to be a cool toned Barbie pink shade.

I also have the brand new Rose Caviar Essence (£26.00) – this is a gel-like serum that has been designed to soften, refine and tone the skin. It contains tiny encapsulated flower oil spheres suspended in the serum, which burst on contact, melting into the skin to hydrate and restore brightness, for optimum radiance.

I really love the texture of the Rose Caviar Essence, it’s super lightweight, and turns into a hydrating liquid once applied to the skin. The flower oils penetrate the skin without any greasiness, and it just leaves your complexion feeling smooth and hydrated, with a lovely light rose scent.

And lastly the Rose Flash Balm (£26.00) – this is a radiance-boosting balm, perfect for giving life to tired and dull skin, and for helping with signs of fatigue. It has an oil-free, quick absorbing formula that promises to instantly moisturise and brighten – it can be used either as a primer before you apply makeup, or as a revitalising face mask.

Personally, I prefer to use this as a primer – you only need a small amount, and I found it really helped to even out my complexion, making my pores appear smaller, as well as giving my skin a much needed over all brightening effect due to the slight pink tint of the balm. This is definitely another must have!

The above products are available now at Pixi Beauty, M&S and Cult Beauty.

Beauty: New from Nip+Fab: Highlighters, Liquid Lipsticks & Skincare

Posted on January 17, 2018

Hi Guys!

Ok so I’m finally back! I’ve had a much needed few weeks off over Christmas and the New Year – not all completely intentionally though as I’ve been unwell, and with one thing and another I’ve just had to give the blog a bit of a back seat lately. But now things are looking up, and I’m back into the swing of things! And I’m kicking things off with a little overview of some brand new releases from Nip & Fab…

Starting with the Liquid Gold Highlighters (£12.99) – these liquid highlighters are a fantastic dupe for Cover FX’s Custom Enhancer Drops, and less than half the price! The texture is slightly thicker than Cover FX, but the effect is pretty much identical. They’re incredibly shimmery and give the skin a gorgeous glow, without any glitter or chunkiness. Currently Nip + Fab have three shades available which will suit most skin tones –

  • White Gold – a light, pink toned metallic champagne, for light and fair completions.
  • Rose Gold – a medium, champagne gold, for both light and medium complexions.
  • Deep Gold – a mid metallic bronze, suitable for darker complexions.

Next, Nip + Fab have also just added three new shades of Matte Liquid Lipsticks (£7.95) to their collection. The new After Hours shades are dark and intense, and interestingly include a blue and a green, which I love! The shades in the tubes look slightly darker than they actually dry down to. I was expecting the blue to be a very deep, almost black midnight blue shade, but it’s actually a beautiful intense royal blue, and definitely my favourite of the three. They dry down pretty quickly to a true matte finish and are really good value for money, but I should mention they do stain, so just bear that in mind especially if you’re interested in the blue or green shades.

  • Black Grape – a deep mulberry.
  • Blueberry Sorbet – an intense royal blue.
  • Cool Mint – a deep emerald green.

On to skincare now, I have the new Glycolic Fix Liquid Glow (£19.95) – which instantly made me think of Pixi’s Glow Tonic. The Glycolic Fix Liquid Glow contains a blend of exfoliating acids to deeply cleanse the skin and help unclog pores, for a more refined skin surface.

The difference between this product and Pixi’s Glow Tonic is that Nip + Fab’s Glycolic Fix Liquid Glow has 6% Glycolic Acid, compared to Pixi’s 5%, and Nip + Fab have also included Salicylic Acid to help unclog pores and help with exfoliation, and Allantoin to soothe and protect the skin. If you’re looking for a liquid exfoliator stronger than Pixi’s Glow Tonic this is definitely worth checking out, but if you have super sensitive skin, I’d probably give this one a miss. Nip + Fab’s product is also more expensive, so definitely bear that in mind.

And I also have the No Needle Fix Night Cream (£19.95) – this is an intensive night cream with slow-release retinol, which works while you sleep to help reduce the visible signs of ageing. It has a creamy texture which is enriched with moisturising oils to provides hydration, for a radiant and revitalized complexion. It promises to leave skin feeling supple and nourished, and visibly rejuvenated.

Nip + Fab also now offer a selection of Individual Masks. I won’t go into the full details for each of them, but they cover most skincare requirements when it comes to masks, including exfoliation, plumping and hydration – so take your pick! I have’t tried these yet but I’m hoping for good results!

  • Dragon’s Blood Fix Plumping Mask Extreme
  • Glycolic Fix Bubble Mask Extreme
  • Dragon’s Blood Fix Hydration Mask
  • Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Mask
  • No Needle Fix Eye Mask

So what do you think? Overall I’m really impressed with Nip + Fab’s latest products, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Beauty: NEW YSL Tatouage Couture Matte Stain Liquid Lipsticks

Posted on October 31, 2017

Hi Guys!

The latest must-have releases from YSL have recently landed at TSNC HQ – the Tatouage Couture Matte Stain Liquid Lipsticks. These brand new liquid lip stains really are quite innovative, offering an ultra-luxe formula promising to deliver intense colour payoff, with a naked lip feel…

So is this a lip stain, or a liquid lipstick? Well actually the answer is both. Traditionally, liquid lipsticks have quite a thick, heavy formula, that feels fairly weighty and noticeable on the lips, and of course we all know liquid lipsticks are usually really drying too. So YSL have come up with a kind of hybrid product – the Tatouage Couture Matte Stain Liquid Lipsticks offer the best of both worlds –

Like a stain, the formula is amazingly lightweight and inky, and when you apply it, it really does feel like there’s nothing on your lips, maybe just the hint of a balm and that’s it. And also like a stain, these products do leave a stain behind after you’ve wiped them off (of course the brighter and deeper colours leave more intense stains)

But, like a liquid lipstick, they also have really good pigmentation. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not completely 100% opaque, but considering the weightless formula, I think YSL have done an excellent job of giving a remarkable amount of colour, without the heavy, drying feeling of a traditional liquid lipstick. I’d actually go so far as to say these are slightly moisturising too – who’d have thought we’d ever see this in a matte finish liquid lipstick!

The applicator is also like nothing I’ve ever seen before. It’s wide, flat and slanted, with a hollowed out section in the centre to pool the product ready for spreading on the lips. The pointed end really helps you apply with precision as the sharp edge is perfect for defining the lip line – you can really tell this product has been carefully thought out right to the finer details.

There are 18 shades available, and the ones I have above are –

  • 01 Rouge Tatouage – a true bright red.
  • 03 Rose Ink – an intense fuchsia pink
  • 08 Black Red Code – a deep burgundy red.
  • 09 Grenat No Rule – a blue toned red.
  • 11 Rose Illicite – a light baby pink.
  • 13 True Orange – a true intense orange.
  • 17 Unconventional Orange – a bright tangerine orange.

You can see that the only swatch that looked quite sheer was Rose Illicite, the baby pink shade. But this actually applied just as well as the others on the lips, giving great colour payoff.

If you’re a fan of matte finish liquid lipsticks, but not that heavy, drying feel on the lips, then I highly recommend you check these out.

The YSL Tatouage Lip Stains are £29.00 each and available now at YSL, Boots and John Lewis.
