Beauty: Liz Earle Skincare on Trial

Posted on July 10, 2017

Hi Guys!

I’ve been trying out a few products from Liz Earle over the last couple of weeks, and wanted to give you the low down today and let you know how I’ve been getting on with them. My skin is pretty dry and can often be sensitive, which means I have to be a bit careful when it comes to trying out new skincare products – if you have sensitive skin you’ll know what I mean! I’ve been trying out a new limited edition Cleanse & Polish, a Moisturiser for sensitive skin, and a few other skincare products. Read on to find out my thoughts…

Starting with the Cleanse & Polish Grapefruit & Patchouli (£22.75 for 150ml including 2x cotton cloths) – Liz Earle’s classic Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser has been revamped into a fab limited edition for summer 2017. This new Grapefruit & Patchouli version is just the same as the original in terms of formula, but this is fragranced with an invigorating blend of zesty grapefruit and woody patchouli essential oils.

If you’re not familiar with Cleanse & Polish, this cult product is a thick, rich cream that does a fantastic job of removing dirt, grease and makeup from the skin, leaving your complexion feeling fresh and clean. It’s actually been quite a few years since I last use the original Cleanse & Polish, so I was looking forward to trying out this new scented version. Firstly, I have to say it smells heavenly! And after massaging into the skin, it really does deep cleanse and remove all traces of makeup, as well as lightly exfoliating – leaving skin feeling fresh, clear and bright.

The Instant Boost Skin Tonic Spritzer (£14.75) is up next. This toner has a light floral fragrance, and contains naturally active ingredients including Aloe Vera to revitalise and soften and Calendula, Chamomile, Cucumber and Vitamin E to soothe and refresh the skin. You can use it directly after the Cleanse & Polish to soothe the skin, or just spritz over both face and body and time of day to refresh and revitalize.

I’ve also been trying the Superskin Moisturiser (£39.00 for 50ml) – I went with the unfragranced version for sensitive skin, which contains Cranberry, Borage and Rosehip Seed oils. I’ve been using this after the above Skin Tonic Toner, massaging into my face and neck, and I have to say my skin has been feeling fantastic!

Liz Earle have advised for optimal results to follow the specific facial massage techniques below. This should help clear toxins, reduce puffiness, boost circulation and aid lymphatic drainage:

Step 1: Apply to face with upward and outward movements using firm pressure.

Step 2: With your fingertips, lightly smooth in an outward circular direction along the cheekbones to above the eyebrows.

Step 3: Using the thumb and ring finger, gently pinch along the brow bone from the nose to the outer edge of the brow.

Step 4: Finish by gently sweeping your hands up the neck and over the décolletage.

For the body, I have the SuperSkin Dry Body Oil (£35.00 for 100ml) – I’m a big fan of skin oils, so this fast absorbing dry body oil sounded right up my street! The SuperSkin Dry Body Oil has been formulated with Liz Earle’s botanical blend of Cranberry, Borage and Rosehip Seed oils to visibly smooth, nourish and revitalise the skin. The oil itself if super lightweight, and I find it works well right after showering. It absorbs really quickly, leaving the skin feeling soft, supple and lightly scented.

And lastly the Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion (from £7.50 for 50ml) – as someone that suffers daily with dry, puffy and tired eyes, I was most excited about trying this product. The Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion promises to instantly revitalise and refresh tired and puffy eyes, and it contains Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera and Cornflower to cool and soothe the delicate eye area.

I have to say I was expecting a creamy lotion, but the formula is actually very thin and wet – just like water. You simply need to apply some product to a cotton wool pad (how much you use is up to you) and sweep lightly over the eyelids – or you can also soak two pads in the product and leave on for up to 10 minutes, for a revitalising, soothing compress.

I’ve used this a few times now, and it really does feel lovely and refreshing on the eye area – I’ve also found that keeping the bottle in the fridge works wonders as the liquid feels extra cool and soothing when you apply it. If you suffer from puffy eyes like I do, this is definitely one to try.

Overall I’m really impressed with all the products I’ve been trying out – the new limited edition Cleanse & Polish is a lovely revamp of a classic product, the SuperSkin Unscented Moisturiser is a fantastic every day moisturiser for sensitive skin especially, and the EyeBright Lotion really did work wonders to relieve my tired eyes.

I’d love to hear which Liz Earle products you use and enjoy? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Christmas: The Best Beauty Gifts Under £25.00

Posted on December 12, 2016

Hi Guys!

Can you believe it’s only a couple of weeks until Christmas! I really need to get my house organised – we finally have a tree – but no decorations yet! 😀 I’m also now starting to publish my gift guides, which I’m kicking off today with a beauty guide including a fantastic selection of gifts under £25.00. Enjoy!

Let’s start with the very festive looking Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Christmas Set (£15.50) – most people will be familiar with this iconic product, as it’s literally one of the most popular cleansers ever. Did you also know it’s won over 120 awards too! This gift set contains everything you need to get super clean skin in mere minutes – there’s a 100ml tube of Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, 2x Pure Muslin Cloths, and a Cleansing Guide included, all beautifully encased in a specially-designed luxury Christmas gift box that’s just perfect for gifting.

Next we have the Mini Moderns Festival of Light Candle Collection (£26.00) – Ok I know this is over £25.00, but only by a smidge so I’ve allowed it to sneak in this post! This super cute candle set contains four of Mini Moderns’ classic print designs on four wonderfully scented mini sized candles. The fragrances included are – Whitby (Sea Spray), Pavilion (Gin Fizz) Darjeeling (Tea and Fig) and Paisley Crescent (Eastern Orange Blossom).

And on to the Ted Baker Sweet Treats Gem Trio Gift Set (£22.50) – I absolutely love Ted Baker for Christmas gifts, they always come up with beautifully packaged goodies, and this Sweet Treats Gem Trio set would make either one fantastic gift, or three individual stocking fillers. Each ‘gem’ contains a travel sized Ted Baker perfume and a full sized nail polish. The fragrances included are really lovely and wearable, including Mia, Polly and Lyla scents – perfect for any girl who is constantly on the go.

Next we have the Orla Kiely Geranium Purse Spray Gift Set (£22.00) – This beautiful set from Orla Kiely includes a mini cosmetic bag and a 25ml Geranium Purse Spray, housed in a pretty, decorative gift box, with a classic Orla Kiely print.

Next, the Makeup Forever Artistic Smoky Eye Kit (£14.00) – this is a fab little gift set containing a selection of Makeup Forever minis. There’s an Excessive Lash Mascara, Aqua XL Eye Pencil in M60 (brown) and also one in M10 (black) – so you can create some gorgeous smoky eye looks this Christmas.

If lips are more your thing, the Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector Collection (£25.40) is a definite must have. I love Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfectors, they leave your lips feeling incredibly silky smooth and nourished, with a natural tint of colour and a glossy shine. This set includes shades 01 Rose shimmer and 02 Apricot shimmer.

Moving on to fragrance, the brand new Accessorize Lovelily Perfume (£19.00) has recently caught my attention. I have to tell you I’m completely in love with this scent. It’s super feminine with notes of raspberry, orange, jasmine and sweet vanilla, and it really reminds me of my youth, I think because it’s quite a young and sweet fragrance. This scent is a fantastic bargain at only £19.00 for 75ml – if I didn’t have this already, it’d definitely be on my Christmas list this year!

Continuing with scent, another bargain fragrance is the new Monsoon Rose Gold EDP – which is currently on offer for only £19.33. Rose Gold EDP has top notes of sparkling lemon, soft fruit and ozonic scents, heart notes of velvety rose, tuberose, neroli and cyclamen, and a base of Eastern woods, vanilla, mosses, musk and balsamic amber. This is definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a new reasonably priced fragrance.

And the Jo Malone Geranuim & Walnut Hand Cream (£22.00) – We all know Jo Malone makes some of the best and most beautifully packaged products, but if you’re looking something at the cheaper end of the spectrum, this Geranium & Walnut Hand Cream would make the perfect gift for any Jo Malone fan this Christmas, without breaking the bank. This cream has a lightweight, delicately scented formula including Apricot Kernel oil which absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving hands soft and moisturised.

Next the Pixi by Petra Rosy Radiance Palette (£19.00) – I often think Pixi makeup is quite underrated, and this palette is a very reasonably priced considering how much product is included. The Rosy Radiance Palette Rosette from Pixi is an all-in-one colour kit including an array of rose, crème and taupe hues that are able to sculpt and enhance cheeks, add a wash of colour to eyes and fill in sparse brows. The Palette Contains: 8x Eye Shades, 3x Brow Shades, 3x Face Shades and a Duo Applicator.

And lastly, the L’Occitane Delightful Floral Hand Cream Trio (£22.00) – this lovely little set would make the perfect Christmas gift for any L’Occitane fan. It contains 3x 30ml hand creams in scents Cherry Blossom, Arlésienne and Pivoine Flora – which is a real bargain at only £7.33 each!

I’d love to hear what’s top of your Christmas list this year? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Ten Tips To Stop Your Makeup Melting This Summer!

Posted on August 14, 2014

wet_face_4

1. Wear less makeup. Ok I know it sounds obvious, but If your usual foundation is heavy it’s probably a good idea to try avoiding it on particularly hot days, or at least try adding moisturiser to thin it down a bit. Alternatively exchange your foundation completely for a tinted moisturiser or BB cream to keep your skin feeling light.

2. Keep skin clean. In the summer when we sweat more, I can’t tell you how important it is to keep your skin clean. Seriously though, don’t even start applying makeup to uncleansed skin, apart from the fact that your makeup won’t stick very well, just think of the dirt and God knows what else that’s clogging up your pores! Eww! A little tip is if you’re prone to greasy skin, give your skin a quick once over with toner before applying your makeup to remove any extra oiliness and give you the best base for applying your makeup.

3. Use the right products for your skin. If you have oily skin, don’t just throw on any old skincare products, it’s especially important in the summer to use products that suit your skin to help prevent oiliness, such as the Dermalogica Oily Skin Kit which contains everything you need for your skincare routine. Liz Earle products come highly recommended too!

4. Don’t forget Primer. It’s important to use primer anyway to give your foundation a base and to make it appear more even, but if you suffer from summer ‘oil slick face’ make sure you choose your primer carefully. I’d recommend you go for a mattifying primer such as Illamasqua’s Matte Primer or one of my personal favourites, MAC’s Matte. These will provide an excellent base for your makeup to sick to.

5. Chillax. If you’re in a rush, hot and flustered when applying your makeup you’re asking for trouble. Makeup does not like very warm skin – hence why it tends to slide off when you get hot! So if you try applying it to hot skin to begin with you’ll find application very difficult and the products are likely to not want to ‘stick’. Take a moment to cool down before applying makeup. Maybe stick your head in the fridge? Or in front of a fan?? Ha ha! A good tip actually is to rub an ice cube over your face before doing your makeup, (dont forget to dry your face after) as well as cooling down your skin it will help close up pores. 🙂

6. Blotting paper – followed by pressed powder. Japanese inspired skincare brand Tatcha make some fabulous Blotting Papers which are perfect for when you’re on the go. They remove excess oil and sweat without disturbing your makeup. A definite must if you have oily skin! You can always followed with a pressed translucent powder to stay extra matte.

7. Use a fixing spray. If you think of fixing spray, most people wit think of Urban Decay’s cult classic All Nighter Setting Spray, which is a great product but it doesn’t come cheap. New kid on the block Makeup Revolution also have an uber affordable Fixing Spray on offer for just a fiver which comes highly recommended.

8. Ditch the Cream products. I’d recommend using powder based products rather than cream based products where you can. Creams tend to slide off the skin so much more easily in hot weather so avoid if you can! Another great option is tints, so maybe change out your cream blusher for a fab tint such as MeMeMe Coral Blossom Lip & Cheek Tint, this is a lovely light coral colour that will suit most skin tones.

9. Choose the right Foundation. Personally I love a dewy / satin finish foundation, but then my skin is on the dry side so this seems to work for me. On the other hand if you have oily skin a dewy finish can leave you looking sweaty and shiny, so In that case I’d definitely opt for a matte finish product, such as NARS Sheer Matte Foundation. I have a friend that swears by it. It’s sheer enough for a light matte coverage but also easily buildable.

10. Keep it waterproof. Opt for waterproof versions of everything you can get your hands on – mascara and eyeliners are the most obvious choices. My favourite mascara Bourjois 1 Seconde Volume also comes in a handy waterproof version which I’d highly recommend! Their Contour Clubbing Eyeliners are also my go-to eyeliner of choice too, they’re crease resistant and completely waterproof so there’s no fear of smudging or panda eyes!

That’s about all I can think of to keep your makeup put this summer, I’d love to hear if you have any other hints or tips? xxx
