NEW Makeup Revolution Awesome Eyeshadow Palettes

Posted on June 9, 2015

Hi Guys!

Makeup Revolution are back on the blog today with two brand new look palettes! These are called the Awesome Palettes! Which I just love, I use the word awesome all the time! 😀 Each palette contains 12 shimmer and matte shades that are perfect for summer, cased in a brand new slimline palette.

Disappear To The Beyond (left) and Beach & Surf (right) – both available at Superdrug.

Both palettes really remind me of the Bobbi Brown Beach & Surf palettes which were released this time last year. Unfortunately I didn’t purchase these so I can’t compare them, but just google it and you’ll see the shades look very similar. I’m wondering if this is intentional as we all know MUR like to come up with affordable dupes for popular products, but these palettes have twelve shades in whereas the Bobbi Brown ones have eight, so they’re not exact dupes by any means.

The Beach & Surf palette is SO pretty. It comes with six larger sized pans and six smaller pans of shimmer and matte shades, as well as two mini applicators (one sponge and one brush). The new Awesome palettes come with a new-look slimline case with a flip top clear plastic lid rather than a mirror. I love the fact that they are super slimline and compact so they should easily fit in most makeup bags.

As expected, all of the shimmer shades swatched really well, and the mattes were not so impressive. The shimmers all had fantastic pigmentation and almost a creaminess to their textures, some of them did give a lot of kick up though and seemed to fall apart a bit when swatched, like the green and light blue shades above – its almost like some of the pans haven’t been pressed very hard but I can’t be sure. So this is just a warning to be careful with application!

The Disappear To The Beyond palette is equally as beautiful but the neutral shades in this palette are definitely more wearable. Again it contains a mostly shimmers with the exception of a couple of matte shades.

I love the gold and burgundy shades in this palette, and there’s enough lighter shade neutrals to take your look from day to night. The two lighter shimmery shades in the larger pans had the same issue as the previous palette, but apart from this I’m actually quite impressed with both palettes, they’re really not too bad considering they only cost £4, making each shadow just 33p.

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any Makeup Revolution palettes? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

NEW Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro Lipsticks

Posted on May 3, 2015

Hi Guys!

I know it’s been a while, but Makeup Revolution are back on the blog this week with a brand new collection of lipsticks. Following on from their Iconic Pro Palettes (my favourite of all of their eyeshadow palettes) Makeup Revolution have now launched an Iconic Pro range of lipsticks.

Makeup Revolution are promising – an outstanding collection of the most desired lipstick shades that give super-Intensive coverage and are comfortable to wear. The contemporary packaging is now lacquered to give you the ammunition you need all the time. Be Bold. Be Iconic. Be Revolutionary.

Sounds pretty good hey!

There are 20 shades to choose from in the collection, of which I have five to share with you today. The Iconic Pros also come in a rather nice re-vamped glossy black and metallic rose gold packaging, which definitely appeals to me. Above from left to right –

  • Propaganda Matte – a deep burgundy red with a matte finish.
  • We Were Lovers – a bright fuchsia pink with a satin finish.
  • Not in Love – a bright coral pink satin.
  • Somewhere Out There – an intense neon orange with a creamy satin finish.
  • Game of Mystery – a satin finish nude beige.

I wasn’t too sure what to expect with these lipsticks, being beyond impressed with the Iconic Pro 2 Eyeshadow Palette and MUR’s new eyeshadow formula, I was excited for a possible new lipstick formula with these – and I have to say they didn’t disappoint! You can see above that these lipsticks are really well pigmented, especially Somewhere Out There (neon orange) this was easily the most intensely pigmented out of the ones I tried and had the creamiest finish. It’s actually pretty much a spot on dupe for MAC’s Morange shade. You can check out my review here and you’ll see just how similar they look. We all know Makeup Revolution love to offer affordable dupes for popular big brand products, so I’m guessing this is no accident!

This makes me think there will be quite a few MAC dupes to be had out of the Iconic Pro collection – I can also see that Not In Love is also a dead ringer for MAC’s Impassioned (check it out here) but I would say the finish isn’t quite up to the standard of MAC. For £2.49 each though, I won’t be complaining, and I definitely think the Iconic Pro lipsticks are worth a try.

The Iconic Pro Lipsticks are £2.49 each and available at Superdrug now.

I hope you enjoyed my review xxx

NEW From I Heart Makeup: Obsession Palettes

Posted on March 11, 2015

Hi Guys!

Makeup Revolution are really pumping out the palette’s right now! Last weeks’ review of the Naked Underneath Palette had me a bit divided, so I must admit on receiving these two I Heart Makeup palettes – which is a sub-section of Makeup Revolution aimed at younger beauty fiends – I was slightly concerned that the shadow formulas may be a bit of an issue…

The I Heart Makeup Obsession Palettes come in five different versions, and I have the lovely neutral toned Pure Cult above, and the slightly more daring Wild is The Wind palette mentioned below.

The I Heart Obsession Palettes include ten matte, shimmer and satin finish eyeshadows – and after swatching the first row of Pure Cult I was instantly impressed. I expected the shimmers and satins to be good, and they were great, and I was bracing myself for the mattes, but lo and behold they were really good too! I then checked the product details on the Makeup Revolution site to find out that the eyeshadows have a new formula (…I think) – it’s not totally clear to be honest as it may just be part of the advertising but take a look here and let me know what you think…

Either way, there’s absolutely no doubt that these shadows are fantastic value for money. The palette costs £3.99 – so basically less than 40p per shadow. This is CRAZY cheap!!

The Wild is The Wind palette is somewhat more daring – and I was intrigued to find out how the brightly coloured shadows would fare up…

Oh look, they’re amazing! Even the light, bright aqua shade on the left! I thought surely this will come out quite sheer and not so pigmented, but nope, it’s full of pigment and not chalky in the slightest.

The only slight issue I could come up with if I was nit picking, is the shadows create quite a lot of kick up, and the shimmers do give a bit of fall out. But seriously for £3.99 you’re not going to get a better palette than one of these.

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any Makeup Revoution or I Heart Makeup products?

I hope you enjoyed my review xxx

NEW Makeup Revolution Naked Underneath Palette

Posted on March 1, 2015

Hi Guys!

Another week, another new release from Makeup Revolution 🙂 This time we have the I Heart Makeup Naked Underneath Eyeshadow Palette, comprising of 16 shimmer and matte shadows in a faux fur covered palette – yes I did just say FUR.

Ok so the lid of the case has a faux fur cover, around a 3D gem style heart. It’s definitely out there! Of course it’s unusual but I don’t hate the fur, it’s only slightly annoying because it tends to shed!

The eyeshadow shades on the other hand, look beautiful. There’s a fantastic range of warm browns, steel greys and burnt orange shimmers that would just look amazing on blue eyes. Sorry you can’t see it on the pictures but there is a double ended bush in there too, unfortualtely it’s the ‘standard’ brush with the sponge applicator ends (a pet hate of mine). So now my only concern is even though this palette looks fantastic, after experiencing one of the PRO Palettes a couple of weeks ago, with an updated eyeshadow formula and ‘proper’ brush, that I’m going to be left disappointed with the ‘standard’ formula of these shadows. Anyway let’s talk a look…

The first row looks pretty good – except for the very first shade which is a matte. Ahh what a shame! I LOVE the shimmers here though, and the black is more of a satin, but they were all a dream to work with, and it seems the darker the shade the better it shows up.

On to the second row – I’m officially in love with the orange shades, they are both very similar though. The shimmery steel grey is also gorgeous and again the only matte shade in this row is a bit of a let down, especially in comparison to the amazingly pigmented shimmers.

And oh dear, look at the third row. This row starts with three mattes and though they look great in the pan, they’re seriously lacking in pigmentation. I worked really hard going over and over to get them just to show up! It’s such a shame because I literally jumped for joy when I heard of the new formula in the PRO palettes, and saw for myself that the PRO matte shades are SO much better. So going back to a standard matte formula really feels quite disappointing. As usual I’m pretty much on the fence, as the shimmers and satins are fantastic (especially considering the price), but the mattes could be a lot better. I should also mention at this point that this palette is actually by I Heart Makeup (at Makeup Revolution) so it probably shouldn’t be compared to the MUR Iconic PRO palettes as they each have a different target market.

The Naked Underneath Palette is available now at Superdrug for £7.99.

I’d love to hear if you’d tried this or any other MUR palettes? What do you think of their mattes shades?

I hope you enjoyed my post xx

NEW Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro 2 Palette & Salvation Lip Lacquer Shades

Posted on February 9, 2015

Hi Guys!

I’ve been trying out a few new releases from Makeup Revolution, and I have to say, this palette is definitely my favourite yet!

The Iconic PRO 2 Eyeshadow Palette comes in a new matte finish casing (still the same size as before but just with matte finish instead of gloss) but the most exciting thing about this palette is that it comes with a decent ‘proper’ double ended brush, rather than a sponge tipped applicator. They’ve given it the rather fancy name of the PRO 1989 Double-ended Eyeshadow Brush. Unfortunately my photos didnt come out too well of the brush, but I can tell you one end has a flat brush and the other end has a round brush and it’s made of synthetic hair. I’m really impressed with this upgrade!

The Iconic PRO 2 Palette contains some really gorgeous shades – the top row are mattes and the bottom are all shimmers. Also, MUR have created these shadows with a brand new Super-Elite formula – ‘Bringing you more IMPACT with easy to blend, soft and butter-like application, allowing you to create super-elite performance eye looks.’ Ooh err!

Seriously though, this new-fangled eyeshadow formula really has made all the difference. Just look at the mattes! I AM SO IMPRESSED. If you’ve read any of my previous MUR eyeshadow reviews, you’ll know I always say their matte eyeshadows could be better but I’m usually happy to overlook the often chalky, and under pigmented mattes in favour of the amazing shimmers because the palettes a priced so affordably.

MUR really have pulled it out of the bag with their new Super-Elite formula though – the matte shadows are all a dream to work with, super pigmented and not chalky at all. Even the lightest shade showed up on my arm, which hardly ever happens – amazing!

And of course the shimmer shades are amazing, as always. The shimmers are all buttery soft and just have the wow factor when applying them and blending them in. These easily get top marks from me.

I also have four brand new shades of Salvation Intense Lip Lacquers

  • Depravity (purple)
  • Rebel (magenta)
  • Paparazzi (pink)
  • Barely There (nude)

Depravity and Rebel are the gloss versions of the same shade names in Velvet Lip Lacquers, and Depraved and Rebel With Cause in the Atomic Lipsticks.

These Lip Lacquers really pack a punch with super intense colour and shine. I love Depravity and Paparazzi, and I’ve worn depravity over the same named lipstick to give the colour a bit of extra oomph! The formula is also non sticky which is definitely a plus, I hate that tacky lip feeling you get with certain glosses.

Overall I’m super impressed with everything here. The Iconic PRO 2 Palette is without doubt my favourite MUR palette so far, and for just £6.99 you should really snap this up too! There’s also an Iconic PRO 1 Palette with slightly different shades, so make sure you check that too. The Salvation Lip Lacquers also get a big thumbs up from me, again they’re cheap as chips at only £3.00 each, and do exactly what they say on the tin.

I’d love to hear what you think? I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

NEW Makeup Revolution Lip Lava Lipsticks – Too Faced Melted DUPE!

Posted on January 26, 2015

Hi Guys!

Nothing excites me more than receiving an unexpected parcel, especially when it’s from one of my favourite brands. Makeup Revolution have just sent over their latest lip products – the full collection of five I Heart Makeup Lip Lavas! I have to say, the packaging instantly made me think of Too Faced’s Melted Lipsticks – and if you know me you’ll know these are one of my favourite lipsticks, so I couldn’t wait to get stuck in and try the Lip Lavas out!

Ok so let’s take a look at the packaging first. You can see there’s no mistaking the similarity between these and Too Faced’s Melted Lipsticks. The boxes really are similar in colour, style and text format.

The tubes are not quite so similar though. Both come in a squeezy type tube and have 12ml of product, with a soft slanted sponge applicator, but that’s where the similarities end. Too Faced Definitely wins on appearance here, but I should also point out that whereas Too Faced’s Melted Lipsticks are £19 each, Makeup Revolution’s Lip Lavas are only £2.99!

too faced nakeup-revolution-lip-lava-swatches

L-R – Shockwave, Forgiven, Tremor, Unleash, and Firestorm.

The collection contains five shades in gorgeous bright and vibrant colours. The Lip Lavas are described as an Intense lipstick formula, melted to create our most impactful gloss. Smooth and comfortable wear, with long lasting formula with Vitamin E.

I think it’s important to mention at this point that these products are not glosses. They do apply like a gloss, and at first have a shiny, lip gloss like finish, but after a while this dulls down to a beautiful satiny finish, they feel smooth and creamy to wear, and are super long lasting too. They’re not quite as matte feeling as the Melted Lipsticks, but I don’t see this as a bad thing at all, especially if your lips tend to be on the dry side as mine are.

So now onto the Dupe List! I’ve listed the MUR shades that match up to TF’s Melted Lipstick shades. Makeup Revolution Shade = Too Faced Shade

  • Shockwave = Melted Violet
  • Forgiven = Melted Nude
  • Tremor = Melted Peony
  • Unleash = Melted Coral
  • Firestorm = Melted Ruby

Here’s my first comparison – MUR Shockwave at the top and TF Melted Violet at the bottom, and I’m not sure what’s happened to my TF Melted Violet, but it’s gone really watery! I haven’t used it for a while so I tried shaking it and squirting a load out, but it was still the same. To get a better idea of what it normally looks like take a look here. The shade is pretty much spot on identical, and the formula is just just the same as my Melted Violet was before it went runny – so Shockwave looks like it’s going to be the perfect replacement.

Next we have MUR Forgiven at the top and TF Melted Nude at the bottom. You can see this is pretty much the perfect dupe. The formula feels the same, the consistency is the same, and now I’ve tried a couple of the Lip Lavas out, I can tell you they feel just the same on the lips too. The colours are perfectly opaque and I really have no complaints at all! (I also have the Melted Coral shade, which I really think would be the perfect dupe for Unleash, I seem to have misplaced it but you can check out my previous post here to see the colour, it’s the most gorgeous summery coral!)

The only two little niggles I have about the Lip Lavas are the fact that the tube doesn’t look too pleasing to the eye (in my opinion) and also the product names aren’t printed on the tubes, only the boxes. These really are insignificant issues though, as these are definitely my favourite Makeup Revolution products so far! I’m SO impressed with them, and if you’ve been wanting to try Too Faced’s Melted Lipsticks, I suggest you snap these up straight away – you can get the full set of 5 Lip Lavas for under £12, which is far less that ONE Melted Lipstick!

I’d love to hear you’r thoughts? I hope you enjoyed my review xxx

NEW Makeup Revolution Euphoria Bronzed Palette!

Posted on December 12, 2014

Hi Guys!

I don’t know about you, but I imagine Makeup Revolution’s HQ to be similar to Santa’s workshop, with hundreds of elves running around thinking up and creating new products with hurry and haste just like it’s Christmas eve! 😀 I think I conjure up this image in my head because Makeup Revolution are forever bringing out new products, seriously, I don’t know how they do it! One of Makeup Revolution’s latest offerings is the b-e-autiful Euphoria Bronzed Palette. This handy little palette includes six neutral toned shimmer eyeshadows, and a bronzer, highlighter and blush. As soon as I saw it I thought  – Urban Decay Naked on the Run DUPE! Well obviously it doesn’t have a mascara, eyeliner or lip gloss, but the eye and face shades are very similar indeed.

The six shimmer eyeshadows are all beautiful easy to wear neutrals which would look great on either blue or brown eyes. The shades are fairly light toned – you won’t get a smokey eye out of these, but they’re perfect for daytime looks. The palette is the same size as Makeup Revolution’s other eyeshadow palettes and slim enough to throw in your bag for when you’re on the go.

So here’s what the eyeshadows look like! Apologies for my not so great photography here! Hopefully this will give you at least an idea of the shades! All the eyeshadows have a lovely texture that almost feels like a cream, even though they’re all powders. The three darker shades definitely felt easier to apply and swatch than the lighter ones.

You can see the bronzer is a lovely warm toned brown, the highlighter and blush also have a beautiful iridescence to them which unfortunately my camera didn’t capture.

If you had your eye on the Urban Decay Naked On The Run palette but didn’t fancy the £37 price tag, I’d highly recommend you try the Euphoria Palette in Bronzed – there’s also a slightly different version in Bare which is worth checking out too. The Euphoria Palette is available from today and a complete steal at only £6 – you need to get this on your Christmas list NOW! 😀

I’d love to hear what your think? I hope you enjoyed my review! xxx
