Beauty: Liz Earle Skincare on Trial

Posted on July 10, 2017

Hi Guys!

I’ve been trying out a few products from Liz Earle over the last couple of weeks, and wanted to give you the low down today and let you know how I’ve been getting on with them. My skin is pretty dry and can often be sensitive, which means I have to be a bit careful when it comes to trying out new skincare products – if you have sensitive skin you’ll know what I mean! I’ve been trying out a new limited edition Cleanse & Polish, a Moisturiser for sensitive skin, and a few other skincare products. Read on to find out my thoughts…

Starting with the Cleanse & Polish Grapefruit & Patchouli (£22.75 for 150ml including 2x cotton cloths) – Liz Earle’s classic Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser has been revamped into a fab limited edition for summer 2017. This new Grapefruit & Patchouli version is just the same as the original in terms of formula, but this is fragranced with an invigorating blend of zesty grapefruit and woody patchouli essential oils.

If you’re not familiar with Cleanse & Polish, this cult product is a thick, rich cream that does a fantastic job of removing dirt, grease and makeup from the skin, leaving your complexion feeling fresh and clean. It’s actually been quite a few years since I last use the original Cleanse & Polish, so I was looking forward to trying out this new scented version. Firstly, I have to say it smells heavenly! And after massaging into the skin, it really does deep cleanse and remove all traces of makeup, as well as lightly exfoliating – leaving skin feeling fresh, clear and bright.

The Instant Boost Skin Tonic Spritzer (£14.75) is up next. This toner has a light floral fragrance, and contains naturally active ingredients including Aloe Vera to revitalise and soften and Calendula, Chamomile, Cucumber and Vitamin E to soothe and refresh the skin. You can use it directly after the Cleanse & Polish to soothe the skin, or just spritz over both face and body and time of day to refresh and revitalize.

I’ve also been trying the Superskin Moisturiser (£39.00 for 50ml) – I went with the unfragranced version for sensitive skin, which contains Cranberry, Borage and Rosehip Seed oils. I’ve been using this after the above Skin Tonic Toner, massaging into my face and neck, and I have to say my skin has been feeling fantastic!

Liz Earle have advised for optimal results to follow the specific facial massage techniques below. This should help clear toxins, reduce puffiness, boost circulation and aid lymphatic drainage:

Step 1: Apply to face with upward and outward movements using firm pressure.

Step 2: With your fingertips, lightly smooth in an outward circular direction along the cheekbones to above the eyebrows.

Step 3: Using the thumb and ring finger, gently pinch along the brow bone from the nose to the outer edge of the brow.

Step 4: Finish by gently sweeping your hands up the neck and over the décolletage.

For the body, I have the SuperSkin Dry Body Oil (£35.00 for 100ml) – I’m a big fan of skin oils, so this fast absorbing dry body oil sounded right up my street! The SuperSkin Dry Body Oil has been formulated with Liz Earle’s botanical blend of Cranberry, Borage and Rosehip Seed oils to visibly smooth, nourish and revitalise the skin. The oil itself if super lightweight, and I find it works well right after showering. It absorbs really quickly, leaving the skin feeling soft, supple and lightly scented.

And lastly the Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion (from £7.50 for 50ml) – as someone that suffers daily with dry, puffy and tired eyes, I was most excited about trying this product. The Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion promises to instantly revitalise and refresh tired and puffy eyes, and it contains Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera and Cornflower to cool and soothe the delicate eye area.

I have to say I was expecting a creamy lotion, but the formula is actually very thin and wet – just like water. You simply need to apply some product to a cotton wool pad (how much you use is up to you) and sweep lightly over the eyelids – or you can also soak two pads in the product and leave on for up to 10 minutes, for a revitalising, soothing compress.

I’ve used this a few times now, and it really does feel lovely and refreshing on the eye area – I’ve also found that keeping the bottle in the fridge works wonders as the liquid feels extra cool and soothing when you apply it. If you suffer from puffy eyes like I do, this is definitely one to try.

Overall I’m really impressed with all the products I’ve been trying out – the new limited edition Cleanse & Polish is a lovely revamp of a classic product, the SuperSkin Unscented Moisturiser is a fantastic every day moisturiser for sensitive skin especially, and the EyeBright Lotion really did work wonders to relieve my tired eyes.

I’d love to hear which Liz Earle products you use and enjoy? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Beauty: Skincare Favourites from Beauty Bay

Posted on January 23, 2017

beauty-bay-skincare-favourites

Hi Guys!

Happy Monday! I hope you had a lovely weekend 🙂 Just before Christmas I received a rather lovely surprise package from Beauty Bay, which was filled with a selection of their skincare favourites for me to try out and share with you. They included a fantastic range of brands covering varying price points – I hope you enjoy!

colleen-rothschild-cleanser-and-coconut-oil

First up we have the Colleen Rothschild Radiant Cleansing Balm (£46.00) – Colleen Rothschild is a new brand to me, and this luxurious sounding cleansing balm promises to melt away daily impurities, waterproof makeup and decongests pores – which is exactly what my skin needs.

The Radiant Cleansing Balm has a lovely aromatic scent which helps to calm and decongest, whilst soothing and rejuvenating the senses. It contains Lipexel to combat dehydration, Black Seed Oil for antioxidant protection and Moringa Oil to restore luminosity to the complexion. I’ve tried this a couple of times now and I have to say I love it! The balm is wonderfully thick and rich feeling, and it does a great job of removing makeup, leaving skin feeling cleansed and soft to the touch.

And the Sister & Co Cold Pressed Raw Coconut Oil (£6.95) – now I must admit I never quite got on the Coconut Oil bandwagon when the fad first started a couple of years ago. I know you can use coconut oil for pretty much anything – a moisturiser, makeup remover, an additive to cooking, you can spread it on your toast, or even use around the house for various things (just Google it and you’ll see there are endless uses for coconut oil). I have to say I love the fact that this is a single, simple, natural product, that offers so many varying uses. It’s naturally high in Vitamin E, and also contains Lauric and Capric Acid which provide anti-ageing, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. I’ve started using this on some dry patches of skin on my arms and it really is working wonders!

body-blends-and-oandm

And while we’re talking about coconuts, I also have the Body Blendz Coconut Delight Scrub (£19.95) – it seems that body scrubs are having a bit of a moment right now, and this scrub from Body Blendz is perfect for those who suffer with cellulite, eczema, acne and dehydrated skin. I should mention that though this is named ‘Coconut Delight’ it’s actually a coffee based scrub, and smells like coffee – which really is very nice as I LOVE the smell of coffee.  This scrub promises to nourish the epidermis without leaving a greasy residue, whilst lifting away traces of impurities and diminishing the signs of ageing.

And I also have the Original Mineral 7 day Miracle Moisture Masque (£28.00) – ok so it’s not skincare, but it’s not every day I get to try out a £28 hair mask so I wanted to mention it! The O&M Day Mircale Moisture Masque is a deeply hydrating treatment mask designed for damaged and dehydrated hair. You’re advised to use this on a weekly basis to keep your locks silky smooth and feeling fabulous, and the formula contains Argan Oil to smooth away frizz and soften hair, Macadamia Oil to moisturise, and Natural Silica to give hair a glossy finish.

antipodes-nugg-skincare

Next we have the Nugg Lip Mask (£9.49) – now I’ve used this product before, so I already know it’s a winner! The Nugg Intense Lip Boosting Mask contains Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Liquorice Root Complex to nourish, moisturise and plump the lips, whilst diminishing the appearance of fine lines, creases and wrinkles. If you suffer with dry lips like I do, I highly recommend you try this!

And the Cellex-C Hydra 5 B Complex (£44.00) – this rather unassuming looking bottle has actually turned out to be one of my favourite products. The Cellex-C Hydra 5 B-Complex is an oil-free clear gel containing an extremely high percentage of hyaluronic acid, as well as Vitamin B-5 to instantly give your skin a silky smooth texture, and therefore providing a perfect base for make-up. This gel promised to give you noticeably smoother, more radiant looking skin within 3-6 weeks. I’ve been using this for around a month now and my skin is absolutely loving it, and I actually think I can physically see the difference it’s made. This is definitely a winner in my books.

The award winning Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream (£29.75) is a natural anti-ageing treatment which promises to resurrect the skin whilst you sleep. This Nourishing Night Cream stimulates collagen production by up to 92%, and replenishes the skin with essential Fatty Acids and naturally high contents of Vitamins A & C. It also contains active Manuka Honey to soothe the skin, and Vinanza Grape helps to neutralise free radical damage whilst improving elasticity and firmness and preventing moisture loss.

And the Colleen Rothschild Mandelic Acid Radiance Serum (sample) – back to Colleen Rothschild, this complexion perfecting serum works to rid the skin’s surface of imperfections. It delivers an intense hit of naturally enhanced hydration which absorbs quickly into the epidermis releasing an array of skin perfecting benefits such as reduced fine lines, diminished dark spots and anti-inflamed acne.

charcoal-face-wipes

And lastly the Yes to Tomatos Detoxifying Charcoal Facial Wipes (£5.00) – now I know this isn’t going to go down well, but I am a fan of face wipes… I just love how handy they are. But I have to say, black charcoal wipes are a new one to me! These Detoxifying Charcoal Wipes are exclusive to Beauty Bay and promise to help rid the complexion of impurities as well as stubborn makeup and dirt, leaving you looking and feeling completely refreshed. The charcoal helps to remove impurities, and tomatoes offer antioxidant properties – and they really do work well, leaving skin feeling cleansed and fresh.

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturisers: Soothing Hydration Powered by Grapes

Posted on July 12, 2016

Caudalie-Vinosource-review

Hi Guys!

I’ve got a gorgeous range of products from Caudalie to share with you this evening – this is Caudalie’s new Vinosource Moisturiser collection…

I wanted to recreate the feeling of pure joy when you bite into a grape packed with water and sweetness through the Vinosource Collection textures that are comprised with organic Grape water. For even more delectability, I chose a palette of pinks for the décor of the new range and signature organic Grape Water. I invite you to bite into life as if you would that sensational grape! – Mathilde Thomas, Co-founder of Caudalie.

The Vinosource range contains Caudialie’s famous Organic Grape Water, which penetrates the skin’s cells to saturate them with water. It’s also rich in anti-oxidant polyphenols and polysaccharides – intelligent sugars that capture water and keep it at the surface of the skin, as well as minerals that contribute to the maintenance and functioning of the skin barrier, leaving skin feeling soothed and moisturized.

Let’s take a look at the products –

Starting with the Moisturizing Sorbet – this is perfect for dehydrated and sensitive skin, it has a lightweight gel-cream formula that turns watery on contact with the skin, where it then soothes, moisturizes and strengthens. It has a light, refreshing scent including notes of mandarin blossom, lemon tree leaf, cucumber water and fresh mint. I’ve been using this on a daily basis for the last few weeks, and it suits my dry and often sensitive skin perfectly.

Next the Moisturizing Mattifying Fluid – you can probably guess by the name that this has been designed for those with oily complexions. This lightweight fluid fights shine by reducing excess sebum, leaving the skin feeling rebalanced, matte and velvety to touch. It contains absorbing and sebum-regulating Java tea leaf extracts and flax powder, as well as anti-oxidant grape polyphenols.

The Moisture Recovery Cream – is a cream designed to deeply comfort and nourish, leaving skin feeling soft, supple and comfortable all day long. It restores the hydrolipidic film and strengthens the skin’s barrier. This velvety and natural cream supplies dry skin with the exact dose of plant lipid nutrients required for the skin to feel nourished and soft.

And lastly the Riche Intense Moisture Rescue Cream – this is ideal for very dry skin, and for use on normal skin in harsh weather conditions. Described as first-aid skin care, this product nourishes skin deeply and protects it from drying out, it also restores the hydrolipidic film and strengthens the skin’s barrier. I went to Freddy’s Sports Day last week and managed to get a bit sun burnt on my face, this left my skin dry and dehydrated – especially on my nose and forehead. I’ve been applying this moisturiser ever since and it’s been a complete lifesaver – it sinks into the skin and moisturises SO well – I highly recommend this.

The Vinosource Moisturisers are £23.00 each, and available now at Caudalie.

Five To Try For Dry & Sensitive Skin

Posted on April 9, 2016

products-for-dry-skin-five

Hi Guys!

If you’re a regular reader you’ll probably know by now that I do tend to moan about my skin a bit, as it can be quite problematic, but at other times it’s completely fine. I also had eczema as a child around my eyebrows, which has left me with ongoing dry patches as an adult – and I was also allergic to pretty much everything you can imagine too. So this has left me with sometimes normal, sometimes dry, sometimes sensitive skin, and I will occasionally have a reaction to a product (usually face masks I find) but some are absolutely fine. So it’s really a bit hit and miss for me.

Anyway, I have a few products to share with you today from some of my favourite skincare brands, that have all been working really well so far for my dry and sensitive skin…

products-for-dry-and-sensitive-skin

Starting with the Melvita Nectar Bright Brightening Duo (£25.00) – bi-phase formula products seem to be having a bit of a moment right now (See Lancome’s Juicy Shakers) and Melvita’s latest release has jumped straight on the bandwagon. The Nectar Bright Brightening Duo is basically a liquid exfoliator. You simply shake the bottle to mix the bi-phase floral water and oil, which work together with a patented AHA complex to gently refine and exfoliate the skin without the need for any harsh granules – which is just perfect for my sensitive skin. This product is gentle enough to use on a daily basis, and I love that it’s so quick and easy to use as there’s no need to rinse off, you just follow with your usual moisturiser and Bob’s your uncle! (This product will be available shortly from Melvita)

Next are two fantastic L’Occitane products – the new Soothing Fluid and Comforting Oil – the L’Occitane Shea Face Soothing Fluid is especially formulated for sensitive skin or skin that has been weakened due to environmental stressors – which can lead to tightness, redness and prickling or burning sensations. This product contains a natural complex of protective active ingredients, rosehip and calendula, combined with shea butter to help comfort and soothe skin whilst helping to strengthen skin’s natural defences.

And the L’Occitane Shea Face Comforting Oil – with it’s gorgeously silky texture and dry finish, is the perfect partner to the Shea Face Soothing Fluid. This oil is perfect for protecting and nourishing very dry or sensitive skin – its 100% natural formula is enriched with shea and marula oils to help the skin to regenerate by strengthening its barrier, leaving your complexion feeling wonderfully soft and supple.

I’ve also recently fallen in love with the Erborian Bamboo Waterlock Mask (£44.00) – like most beauty fans, I love a pampering face mask, but due to my awkward skin I can occasionally react to them, so I’m usually pretty wary. The new Erborian Bamboo Waterlock Mask is just spot on for me though – it has a deeply hydrating formula containing minerals and amino acids to give an instant hit of freshness to the skin, with a plumping effect. Disospyros kaki, also included in the formula, is known for its astringent and illuminating properties, helping to keep skin supple and toned with its pore tightening effect. My skin doesn’t react to this product at all, and after using it my complexion feels instantly rejuvenated and hydrated.

And lastly the L’Occitane Velvet Hands Hand Cream (£18.00) – I don’t really use hand cream that often, as my hands are probably the least problematic area of my skin, but I’ve been frantically cleaning and tidying the house from top to bottom over the last week as we’re putting it on the market, and my hands have definitely been affected by all the cleaning products, becoming dry and feeling tight. I’ve started using the gorgeously scented Velvet Hands Hand Cream though and it’s helping to soothe them already. This product is enriched with L’Occitane’s Almond Youth Complex, which is an exclusive blend of three active ingredients, it also contains UV filters, and stimulates collagen production, helping to protect the youthfulness of your hands.

So there we have it, five fantastic products that are all perfect for dry and sensitive skin! I’d love to hear if you have sensitive skin, and which skincare products you use and would recommend?

the-hero-project-products-review

Hyasoft Instant Moisture Boost with multi-weight hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5. This is a lightweight clear gel moisturiser, containing multiple types of hyaluronic acid to penetrate the skin at different levels, resulting in an intensively moisturised, plump feeling complexion. Hylasoft is very similar to Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Jelly and Pestle & Mortar’s Pure Hyaluronic Serum– so if you’re a fan of these products, you’ll definitely like this. It’s a clear, non greasy gel that instantly sinks into the skin – and I felt like my skin literally drank this stuff up! It’s suitable for all skin types, and very reasonably priced at £19 for 30ml.

Glow Drops – the second product from The Hero Project, Glow Drops is a lightly scented facial oil, made with over 98% naturally derived ingredients. It contains a blend of essential oils plus a shot of vitamin C to instantly help smooth, nourish and brighten skin. Again this is non-greasy and fast absorbing, so you won’t need to wait around for an age for it to sink in. Glow Drops is very similar to L’Oreal Age Perfect Extraordinary Facial Oil and Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil, and it’s suitable for all skin types, though those with dull or stressed skin may find this to be particularly beneficial. Glow Drops is £21.00 for 30ml.

And just for fun, I’m also giving away ten tubes of Hylasoft, to ten lucky winners! New Garnier Moisture Bomb & Ultimate Blends Ranges

Posted on March 26, 2016

garnier-new-products-review

Hi Guys!

Garnier is one of those brands that I must admit I do tend to overlook, it’s kind of part of the furniture in my local Boot’s store, and the products never really seem to jump out at me – unless there’s an offer on. I’m pleased to say that Garnier have really upped their game of late though, with the launch of their latest Ultimate Blends hair care and body ranges, and Moisture Bomb skincare products.

The Ultimate Blends hair care ranges cover pretty much every hair care need, Garnier have actually spent 7 years working on these products, whilst listening to the feedback of women across the country to create products that cater for every hair care need. The ranges include –

  • The Sleek Restorer – for dry and frizzy hair.
  • The Colour Illuminator – for coloured hair.
  • The Nourishing Repairer – for very dry / damaged hair.
  • The Marvellous Transformer – for dry / dull hair.
  • The Silky Smoother – for hair with split ends.
  • The Shine Revitaliser – for normal hair.
  • The Weightless Nourisher – for dry and brittle hair.
  • The Delicate Soother – for delicate hair and sensitive scalps.

I have the Ultimate Blends Delicate Soother Range, which is perfect for those with delicate hair and / or sensitive scalps, and basically anyone that has issues similar to these. The first thing you’ll notice about these products is the smell – they smell amazing – and I don’t know of anyone that’s tried them that thinks otherwise! The Delicate Soother range contains rice cream and oat milk to nourish, soften & protect the hair as well as the scalp, whilst leaving hair feeling silky soft and shiny.

I’ve been trying out the Delicate Oat Shampoo, Conditioner and Face and Body Balm over the last couple of weeks and I’m really impressed with the results. I love how the hair products leave my hair feeling nourished and super shiny, and the balm is a gorgeous light body moisturiser that just smells divine on my skin.

The Moisture Bomb 3-in-1 Day Cream (£7.99) is also a fantastic product – perfect for those will dull or dehydrated skin, this moisturiser contains two antioxidant superfruit extracts: Amla and Pomegranate, combined with daily UVA/UVB protection and a high concentration of Plant Serum to give skin up to 24 hours of continuous hydration. The formula has an ultra-light texture which sinks into the skin, leaving skin feeling hydrated, smoother and radiant.

And the Moisture Bomb Night Cream (£7.99) – this is a slightly heavier version of the 3-in-1 day cream, again injected with Amla, Pomegranate and Plant Serum to give an intensively hydrating formula that helps to smooth the skin, plump out fine lines and leave skin looking visibly younger. This product has a gel-cream texture which is much lighter than I would have expected, and just like the day cream it sinks into the skin quickly, leaving no residue. I think the 3-in-1 Day Cream and Night Cream work really well together as an affordable duo, which are perfect for those with dryer skin types.

The Ultimate Blends range and Moisture Bomb range are available now from Boots.

Clarins Multi-Active Day and Night Creams

Posted on February 28, 2016

clarins-day-and-night-cream-review

Hi Guys!

One of my favourite beauty brands, Clarins is back on the blog today, and this time with a couple of brand new skincare products.

Their new Multi-Active day and Night Creams aim to visibly diminish the first signs of ageing, restore radiance, hydrate as well as maintain younger looking skin. Clarins describe them as ‘Multi-tasking skincare’, designed with your busy lifestyle in mind.

There are four day creams – one for all skin types, one for dry skin, one with added SPF20, and a also a light weight SPF15 lotion. For evening there are two options available, a standard night cream for dry skin, and a lighter version for normal to combination skin.

clarins-multi-active-cream-review

It’s great to hear that Clarins really have done their research when creating these products. They started off by asking women across the world aged between 30 and 39 what they thought affected the appearance of their skin the most – and they found lack of sleep and stress were the most popular responses.

Clarins’ own research has also proven this to be true. They found that stress and a lack of sleep can lead to an overproduction of free radicals which affect the main cell responsible for youthful skin: the fibroblast. This cell ensures the smooth, toned look of the skin due to its production of collagen and elastin fibres, so when it becomes worn out due to lack of sleep or stress, we start to notice the first visible signs of ageing, including fine lines and a dull complexion.

To give the Fibroblasts a helping hand, Clarins have used cutting edge technology to harness the power of plant extract Teasel, which has been selected to revitalise and protect tired and stressed skin by encouraging the production of ATP, an energising molecule, which also helps to fight free radicals.

clarins-face-cream-review

I have the Multi-Active Day Dry Skin Cream – this is specifically designed for dry skin, helping to prevent and visibly correct the appearance of fine lines, thanks to the new organic Myrothamnus extract. The Myrothamnus plant originates from South Africa, and in the dry season the plant’s cells produce a substance called trehalose which allows them to rehydrate. In turn this helps protect dermal cells from harmful effects of stress and to keep skin smooth and radiant.

The Multi-Active Day Dry Skin Cream has a wonderfully hydrating formula that melts into the skin. It’s also enriched with light-reflecting ‘radiance’ pigments to illuminate and hydrate the complexion, and has a subtle-floral fragrance with notes of cherry and white lily, to revive and refresh.

I also have the Multi-Active Night Cream – this contains organic California Golden poppy extract, which helps to offset the damaging effects of late nights and interrupted sleep – this sounds perfect for me!

To explain this a bit more-  at night, the skin fights damage caused by stress by producing a hormone called melatonin. Due to interruptions in the sleep cycle or a reduction in the length of sleep, this process is disrupted, meaning lower amounts of the hormone are secreted and damage intensifies. The Golden poppy extract helps to stimulate the synthesis of collagen and fight the harmful effects of free radicals in the skin, helping skin to become visibly smoothed and more toned upon waking.

So the idea is that you apply this before bed, and wake up with smoother skin and redefined features. The Multi-Active Night Cream also works to prevent as well as correct the appearance of fine lines, whilst nourishing and hydrating the skin. I also want to mention the lovely calming and relaxing fragrance which is perfect for bed time. It includes notes of jasmine, freesia and heliotrope to help soothe the mind.

clarins-multi-adctive-nuit-review

Both creams are lightly scented and feel thick and luxurious, and I love that they both sink into the skin really quickly leaving no residue. I must say I think the Night cream is my favourite though, I’ve used it a few times now and I always wake up with super soft skin the mornings after using it.

Clarins Multi-Active Day and Night Creams are available to purchase now from House of Fraser.

I’d love to hear if you’re a fan of Clarins skincare? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
