Beauty: Paul & Joe SS17 Limited Edition Collection

Posted on February 8, 2017

Hi Guys!

I thought I’d follow the beautiful Penhaligon’s fragrance from earlier today with some equally beautiful makeup for you to feast your eyes on this evening.

You probably know by now that I’m a complete sucker for pretty packaging. If it’s cute, colourful, sparkly, weird or just plain unusual then I need it in my life. So quite obviously Paul & Joe’s makeup range ticks all the boxes for me – and when some samples of their new SS17 collection arrived at TSNC HQ last week, I actually squealed with delight! (I mean I literally did. If you saw my Instagram Stories that day you’ll have seen how happy I was!)

The Face & Eye Colour Palette (£25.00) is easily the stand out product in the limited edition SS17 collection. I wasn’t really sure what it was exactly when I saw the outer packaging which said ‘Eye and Cheek CS’, but on opening it up I found literally THE CUTEST little box inside, with the sweetest cat print on top, and a pouffy ‘cat paw’ applicator on a stick, adorned with a sweet little bow. I mean these cats are wearing glasses and ties, what’s not to love!? This is most definitely the most adorable makeup product I’ve ever seen.

The box opens to reveal a stunning eye and cheek palette in the shape of a cat, with a background of white hearts. There are three options to choose from, and the one I have is shade 109 Mon Petit Chat. Personally I would say this is more of a collectors item, rather than a makeup product you’d actually use – that’s just because I hoard pretty things though 🙂 The shades available are –

  • 107 Smitten Kitten – Terracotta and deep rosy red.
  • 108 Poupounette – Shimmering orange bronze and pink.
  • 109 Mon Petit Chat – Bright and dusky pinks.

Fans of the brand will know that Paul & Joe are ALL about the cats. Cats and flowers and cute quirky patterns. And their cat head lipsticks are definitely another must have product. I should also mention here that many of Paul & Joe’s products come in separate parts and are interchangeable. So for the lipsticks you can buy individual outer cases with separate lipstick bullet refills, and mix and match as you please.

Their spring print Lipstick Cases (£7.00) come in three options, and I have the Bold Flower print one above. And the individual Lipstick Refills (£14.00) for this season come in two colour options with a 3D cat face tip –

  • 103 Russian Blue – Clear coloured lipstick that turns slightly different shades of pink on different skin.
  • 104 Persian Pink – Bright pop of pink.

And lastly the Eye Colour Trio (£23.00) – again the actually trio of eyeshadows comes as a separate component to the Compact Case (£7.00) that you put them in. This dinky little eyeshadow trio comes in three different options for SS17. The shadows are highly pigmented and smooth on application, and the mini size of the palette means it’s perfect for throwing in your makeup bag when you’re on the go. The shades available are –

  • Mon Prince – Naturals, light pink, purple and red brown.
  • Mon Nounours – Salmon pink, gunmetal and black.
  • Mon Coeur – Golden sand, bright light pink and deep pink.

The empty outer Compact Cases will also fit any of Paul & Joes other eyeshadow trios or blushers, and come in three super cute designs. I think you can guess which one I have –

  • Floral – White and grey stripes with a floral pattern.
  • Swallows – Swallows on a light blue background.
  • Bold Flowers – White with a black, red and blue floral design.

Paul & Joe Cosmetics are available at Beauty Bay and ASOS, and both sites have sales on Paul & Joe right now so make sure you take a look!

Paris Fashion Week: Paul & Joe SS17

Hi Guys!

Well after hopping off the New York just over a month ago, never in a million years did I expect to be invited on another press trip so soon – I mean these sorts of things just don’t happen to me!

So when I was asked to pop along to Paris Fashion Week to catch the Paul & Joe show, as well as go behind the scenes to learn about their SS17 makeup – well of course I jumped at the chance 🙂

So we jetted off on the Eurostar and landed in Paris, just in time to grab a bite to eat and head off to check out the show preparations…

I’d never been backstage at a fashion show, so I didn’t really know what to expect. The area wasn’t quite as ‘hustle and bustle’ as I’d expected – in fact it was really quite quiet and calm. As expected though, there were makeup artists and hairdressers everywhere, as well as of course, beautiful models and tonnes of gorgeous Paul & Joe makeup.

We were then informed that the show was in fact taking place outside beside the River Seine – a couple of streets away – and this is something that hadn’t been done before. Well, I thought this was quite a daring move for October! And because of this, it wouldn’t be possible for the models to change outfits – so there would be no clothing changes at all. Each of the 35 models would be assigned a single outfit for the show.

The head makeup artist was Mark Carrasquillo who we all watched eagerly working his magic on the models. He explained to us that the concept was of a teen girl, she’s cool, she doesnt care what anyone thinks of her. She wears her boyfriends clothes. She experiments with makeup. There was no powder, no blush, and no contour. Skin was clean, fresh and dewy, and eyes were ringed with kohl and coated with layers of mascara – the epitome of London girl cool.

I noticed some of the gorgeous new Paul & Joe skincare products were being used to prep the models skin too – I’ll be posting about the new range shortly.

I also spotted some eyebrow bleaching backstage…

The 35 models then headed to the river for a practice run – and it was quite amusing watching such a large gaggle of models walking through the Paris streets, still in preparation for the show, there were bath robes, hair clips and designer bags aplenty!

Eventually show time was upon us and we all took our seats. The show itself was so much fun! The music was loud, and the vibe of the whole show was youthful and fun, with a ‘don’t care’ attitude.

The clothes were casual, grungy and cool – complimented perfectly by the minimal makeup. There were slouchy fabrics, with oversized baggy trousers and drop waists on dresses, as well as plenty of layering and textured details. I fell in love with a gorgeous coat covered in sequinned flowers.

This really was a fantastic experience, and I really hope I to go to more shows next year! I’ll be posting shortly on Paul & Joes beauty and skincare products too.
