Fragrance: Penhaligon’s Paithani EDP

Posted on August 21, 2017

Hi Guys!

I have one of the latest fragrance launches from Penhaligon’s to share with you today – if you’re familiar with the brand, you may already be aware of their Trade Routes collection, to which Penhaligon’s have just added two captivating new scents: Paithani and Agarbathi

Housed in a classic Penhaligon’s fragrance bottle, with a bow adorning the lid, Paithani is a fragrance designed to capture the essence of India – with its opulent palaces, spiced hot tea and rich flora and fauna, it aims to transport the wearer on an unforgettable journey.

Paithani has been named after a variety of sari, the beautifully patterned coloured cloth traditionally worn by Indian women, and the fragrance itself is wonderfully evocative, reflecting memories of a visit to india –

Our mountain train’s arrival into Bombay was greeted by an explosion of sound that dazzled our reverie and shook us awake. Vivid colourful saris, Paithani, swirl all around, and to complete the sensory overload, before long there is the welcoming smell of spicy hot tea! Added to it, as tradition dictates, an agreeable explosion of spice (cardamom, nutmeg and pepper – the fragrant holy trinity). The soothing aspect of a silky, milky rose, serves as a rousing caress. Soon there is the famed cedar from Himachal Pradesh that blends with the smell of leather trunks. Because travel has always been the greatest feat of independence. And to best capture the feeling of our faithful companion, the sun – bountiful, low and full – rich amber infuses and illuminates the end of the day.

When first spraying the scent, it immediately makes me think of chai tea – it opens up with spicy top notes of Cardamom, Nutmeg Essence and Black Pepper sweetly softened by a mild heart of Rose and Milk Accord, leading to a warm earthy base of Cedar Essence, Labdanum Resin, Leather, and Amber Wood. The scent is alluring, spicy and rich – contrasting with its partner Agarbathi which has more of a floral aroma inspired by Indian incense.

I have to say I’ve completely fallen in love with Paithani – it’s heavy and opulent, alluring and spicy – just perfect for a summers evening.

  • Top Notes: Cardamom & Black Pepper Pure J.Ess™, Nutmeg Essence
  • Heart Notes: Milk Accord, Rose, Maté Absolute
  • Base Notes: Cedar Essence, Labdanum Resin, Leather, Amber Wood.

Paithani EDP is £164 for 100ml and available now at Penhaligon”s and Selfridges.

Fragrance: Penhaligon’s Savoy Steam EDP

Posted on May 10, 2017

Hi Guys!

I have the latest offering from one of my favourite fragrance brands to share with you today – and if you know Penhaligon’s, you’ll know there’s going to be a captivating story behind the scent…

Savoy Steam was inspired by Penhaligon’s first ever scent, Hammam Bouquet, which was originally created in 1872. This in turn was inspired by the turkish baths which were located just next door to the original Penhaligon’s barber shop on Jermyn Street, London.

Before continuing, I should point out that there are in fact two Savoy Steam fragrances that have just launched – there’s the ‘unisex’ EDP which I have, and there’s also a Eau de Cologne which is more masculine in comparison.

Savoy Steam EDP evokes the exotic infusions of the London and Provincial Turkish Bath Co – day after day the aromatic vapours slid under the door of Penhaligon’s Barber Shop, both relaxing and inspiring William Penhaligon, until his first fragrance was born.

As expected, the fragrance is light and airy, with top notes of Rosemary Oil and Pink Pepper, the scent has an enveloping essence, that’s fresh and light yet noticeable enough to turn heads. Savoy Steam is an aromatic, calming fragrance, with hints of invigorating green notes, blended beautifully with the warmth of Rose and Incense Resinoid at the base…

A steam-mist of fresh roses. The stir of floating petals. Hints of invigorating green with the haze of this olfactory Hammam. And now, green geranium, aromatic inflexions. An echo! rosemary and pink pepper. And for the finale, as if after a soothing rub down, benzoin and incense reinforce the smooth sensation of warm, enveloping, floral steam.

  • Top Notes: Rosemary Oil Tunisia and Pink Pepper.
  • Heart Notes: Rose Essential and Geranium Absolute.
  • Base Notes: Incense Resinoid.

Savoy Steam EDP is £134 for 100ml and available now at Penhaligon’s.

Christmas: Stunning Luxury Beauty & Fragrance Gifts

Posted on December 20, 2016

Hi Guys!

I’ve just finished the final instalment of my Christmas beauty gift guides – and I think I’ve definitely saved the best till last! This guide is all about luxury fragrance, makeup and skincare, where no price is too high. I hope you enjoy!

Starting with the Benefit Blushin’ Babe Set – this limited edition palette contains five of Benefit’s famous cheek & face powders, as well as signature tips and tricks leaflet to show you how to wear them, and also a They’re Real Mascara, Eyeliner and Watt’s up highlighter. Everything in this set is in mini form, making an affordable way to try before committing to purchasing full sized products.

For fragrance, Annick Goutal Les Absolus Rose Oud EDP is a stunning luxury scent, described as a new interpretation of some the finest raw materials in perfumery – Agarwood and Turkish rose, Les Absolus Rose Oud is both a unique and sensual fragrance. The perfume combines coriander and cardamom for a spicy freshness, leading to a sensual heart of Turkish rose. Oud and incense leave a woody, mysterious and enveloping trail, rounding out this captivating scent.

Another beautiful luxury scent is Elie Saab Nuit Noor – a perfume of contrasts. Beirut, the muse behind this new fragrance, is an icon of modernity in the Middle East and a city revered for its captivating contrasts. One of these is its light – noor in Arabic – that reflects off the sea and city, to set the velvety night sky aglow. Light shines through in a honeyed bouquet of soft Rose made still more radiant by the essence of Ylang-ylang. And, to conjure the night, an accord of spicy, woody notes run throughout the composition in Black Pepper and Incense, across a majestic backdrop of Indonesian Patchouli. This scent is simply stunning!

And Serge Lutens Baptême du feu EDP – translating to Baptism of Fire, this woody scent is a wonderful unisex accord, interestingly inspired by combat. Sitting somewhere between good and evil, this is a fiery scent with addictive notes of gingerbread, powdery notes, tangerine, castoreum and osmanthus. A must try for fans of Serge Lutens.

And I had to include the stunning, Penhaligon’s Oud de Nil EDP – part of Penhaligon’s Trade Routes Collection, Oud de Nil is most definitely a tribute to Ancient Egypt in all its fragrant glory. It takes you on an olfactory cruise down the Nile, with crisp notes of grapefruit and bergamot combined with rich jasmine, oud and papyrus. Not as heavy as you’d expect, this delicate fragrance is perfect for both day and night.

Back to makeup now, with the YSL Extremely Set – this stunning palette arrives housed in a glossy red case which can be re-used after the products are gone. Inside is a beautiful make-up palette offering enough products to give a full eyes, lips and cheeks makeover – there are four eyeshadows, a highlighter, two blushers, three lip shades, a lip gloss, a mini mascara and mini brushes included.

The NARS ASOS Exclusive Orgasm Blush & Illuminator Set really needs no introduction – with Orgasm being one of the most iconic blush shades ever made, this gorgeous set contains a full sized Orgasm Blush, as well as a mini Illuminator, in striking limited edition packaging.

On to skincare now with a couple more high end treats – the 111Skin Space Anti Age Emulsion is a powerful moisturiser that aims to combat signs of ageing and keep skin hydrated, leaving you with a radiant, revitalised complexion. Enriched with vitamins to repair skin, the luxurious moisturiser promotes collagen production and contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid to retain moisture levels and plump skin for a youthful look.

And the 111Skin Space Anti Oxidant Booster utilises an advanced, anti-ageing formula that delivers an extra boost of vital antioxidants to revive your skin and protect from environmental aggressors. The concentrated blend combines vitamin C with flavonoid rich Grape seed extract to prevent premature ageing and create a defence barrier against daily pollution.

And what would luxury beauty gifting be without a high end lipstick? The YSL Rouge Pur Couture Matte Lipsticks would make fantastic Christmas gifts or stocking fillers. These beautifully packaged lipsticks promise to saturate lips with intense, stay-true colour, with medium to full coverage, and a radiant, satin finish for up to 6 hours wear.

The Nude By Nature Complexion Essentials Starter Kit is a fantastic set for those interested in trying out Nude by Nature products – which really are underrated. This set contains a selection of mini sized base products, giving you the perfect opportunity to get a feel for the brand. This beautifully presented set includes a Perfecting primer, Perfecting Concealer, Loose Powder Foundation, Loose Powder Bronzer, Translucent Loose Finishing Powder and an application brush – all housed in a leather look and rose gold case.

I just had to include the Too Faced Grande Hotel Cafe in this guide – this gorgeous set opens to reveal three Christmas coffee scented palettes – Peppermint Mocha, Gingerbread Coffee, and Eggnog Latte. Each palette contains six eyeshadows in both matte and shimmer finishes, one large face product pan (either a blush or bronzer) and the set also contains a deluxe size Better Than Sex Mascara and a step-by-step how-to Glamour Guide with three beauty looks to get you started.

And finally back to NARS again. This is the gorgeous NARS Blame It On Nars Cheek Palette – this is a stunning exclusive palette containing four cult-favorite shades: the gilded Satellite of Love Highlighter, two limited-edition provocative pinks—Day Dream and New Attitude—and the iconic burnished Casino Bronzing Powder, paired with a mini Kabuki Ita Brush and expressive keepsake palette for literally turning cheeks!

Fragrance: Penhaligon’s Luna Eau de Toilette

Posted on October 11, 2016

penhaligons-luna-review

Hi Guys!

When it comes to fragrance, Penhaligon’s really does tick all the boxes for me. Both their packaging and bottles are beautiful – they make me think of fairy tales, whimsy and elegance – and on top of this, their fragrances are just mesmerising.

Today I have Penhaligon’s Luna Eau De Toilette to share with you – based on an ancient mythical love story, Luna of course represents the moon…

penhaligons-luna-perfume

In ancient Greek mythology, the Goddess of the Moon placed Endymion, the most handsome son of Zeus, into a perpetual slumber so that she could gaze upon him forever, his stunning face unmarked by the passage of time. The wishes of the Goddess were granted, and Endymion slept on for all eternity, his smile everlasting. And no wonder, for he spent his life forever dreaming that he held the moon, Luna, gently in his arms.

To celebrate this wonderful story which I love so much, Penhaligon’s have created a duo of fragrances – Luna, which is fresh and floral, offers a feminine counterpart to the woody leather notes of its more masculine partner, Endymion.

I’d actually say Luna is more of a unisex, or gender-free fragrance, rather than feminine. And as you can probably guess by the above excerpt, Luna has been inspired by the Goddess of the Moon, and aims to capture the essence of this mythical character.

The fragrance itself opens with surprisingly fresh and zingy top notes of Orange Birgrade and Lemon Primofiore, leading to a heart of crisp and dry Juniper Berry and Rose Accord, which is rounded of with a dark woody base of Fir Balsam, Amber Gris, and Musks.

  • Top Notes: Bergamot Oil, Lemon Primofiore Oil, and Orange Bigarade Oil.
  • Heart Notes: Rose Accord, Jasmine Petal Accord, and Juniper Berry Oil.
  • Base Notes: Fir Balsam, Amber Gris, and Musks.

Luna was not at all what I was expecting – I was imagining something quite floral and feminine, and that is definitely not what this fragrance is about. Luna is fresh and clean, whilst also sensual and most definitely complex – this is a must try for fans of niche scents.

Penhaligon’s Luna Eau de Toilette is £128.00 for 100ml and available now at Penhaligon’s.

Fragrance: Penhaligon’s Equinox Bloom Eau De Parfum

Posted on July 12, 2016

penhaligon's-equinox-bloom

Hi Guys!

Equinox Bloom is the first scent I’ve tried from Penhaligon’s, it’s such a wonderfully original scent, like nothing I’ve tried before…

Equinox Bloom is Penhaligon’s first ever gourmand fragrance – which basically means it has edible or dessert-like qualities, as well as synthetic notes designed to resemble food flavours. Equinox Bloom was inspired by the quintessentially English tradition of afternoon tea – I pretty much live on tea so this really does tick all the boxes for me. It’s floral yet not in a traditional sense, and it’s definitely a transient scent on me, one moment feeling warm, then cool, with a constant and distinct edible creaminess that I love.

Created by Master Perfumer Olivier Cresp, Equinox Bloom plays with an olfactory palette inspired by the delights of high tea, accompanied by the heady bouquet of the first sweet Spring flowers. Delicious notes of Chantilly, Frangipani and Brown Sugar are blended with violet leaves, orange blossom absolute and jasmine sambac, rounded with the deep, Oriental richness of Benzoin Siam and Ambrox.

The packaging is so very English, quaint, pretty and almost twee – I love it! The bottle is very classic, with a dainty pink bow and a delicate yet colourful print adding a modern touch.

Gift Idea – Penhaligon’s Samarkand Classic Candle

Posted on December 17, 2014

penhaligons-christmas-gifts

Hi Guys!

You know I love a good candle, and I’m a big fan of more niche scents and brands too, so today I’m really excited to let you know all about the newest addition to my collection – the Penhaligon’s Samarkand Classic Candle.

Penhaligon’s have been on my radar for a while but I hadn’t had the pleasure of trying out any of their products until now. I started reading on their site to learn a bit more about the company and the first thing that I read really struck me – We strive to create original scents for the discerning eccentrics of today.

This statement is just perfection to me! It’s pretty much my aim in life to be eccentric – I want to be a cross between Lord Bath, Russell Brand and Lady Gaga! Does that sound a bit odd? I hope so! 😀

I was going to throw in a few more quotes about Penhaligon’s, but if you’re interested, have a read here to learn more about the history behind the company, I’d definitely recommend it.

penhaligons-samarkand-candle

Anyway, onto the candle! The Samarkand candle is in fact the official scent of London Fashion Week for Spring / Summer 2015 which is rather exciting. The scent is described as an exotic oriental awash with sweet flowers, spices and wood, and it was inspired by the ancient city of Samarkand, one of the oldest cities in the world. The Samarkand fragrance combines clove, jasmine and lily on a warm base of sandalwood & vanilla, and it really is a beautiful scent. It’s also worth mentioning that Penhaligon’s luxurious hand blended candles are packed with essential oils, made with a naturally derived soy wax and also feature a cotton braided wick for a clean & smoke free burn.

I’m thrilled with the Samarkand candle, and now I can’t wait to try out some more Penhaligon’s products, I’ve got my eye on a few of their fragrances and bath oils next!

The Samarkand Classic Candle is £32.00, and the Brighton Collection Matches which are also pictured are £30.00.

I hope you enjoyed my post! I’d love to hear if you’ve tried anything from Penhaligons? xxx
