Beauty: Testing The New NEWA Beauty Device

newa-beauty-tool-review

Hi Guys!

I hope you’re having a wonderful week? It’s absolutely freezing here and I’m currently working from my living room with my wooly hat on! 😀

Over the last couple of months I’ve been trailing a brand new skincare device, so I thought I’d get my thoughts together today and let you know how I’ve been getting on…

newa-anti-ageing-tool-review

As you can probably tell by the pictures, this device is called the NEWA – it’s designed by a company called AesthetiCare, who work with aesthetic clinics across the UK, providing them with clinically proven medigrade skincare and treatments for skin rejuvenation and problem skin conditions – so these guys definitely know their stuff.

newa-device-review

So what actually is the NEWA? Well it’s a brand new advanced home-use beauty tool specifically designed (and clinically proven) to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, tighten the skin, as well as lift and firm, to leave you with a youthful looking, more radiant complexion. It also works to prevent new wrinkles from developing too which is a bonus!

And how does it work? The NEWA utilises something called 3DEEP technology, which is a unique and patented form of radiofrequency that delivers controlled energy deep into the skin. This energy warms up the skin tissue to the optimum level that stimulates natural collagen production, increasing the blood supply to the skin, and promoting healthy cell activity, which results in wrinkle reduction and skin rejuvenation.

newa-active-tip

The NEWA is really easy to use too – you just apply some Lift Activator Gel to the metal part on top of the device, rub the device lightly over the treatment area to spread the gel over the skin, then turn the device on and again go over lightly in circular motions.

It feels lovely and warm and relaxing on the skin, very much like a massage. I should also point out that the device is FDA cleared for home use, and is completely safe to use, with no pain whatsoever – I was quite surprised to find it such an enjoyable, pampering and pleasant experience.

Also, you can use it any time of day, which is handy to suit your schedule. I prefer the evenings as it’s such a relaxing experience I think it’s nice to do before bed time. NEWA advise to split the face into six treatment areas, which take four minutes each to treat, and you’re advised to use the NEWA five times per week for the first four weeks, then twice a week after that.

Giving your face a lovely warming massage for 24 minutes is the perfect excuse for taking some time out and getting some quality ‘me time’. It’s also worth mentioning that the device vibrates to let you know when each section of the face has been done, which is a really handy feature.

newa-lift-activator-gel

Ok so after using this for just over a month, I have to say I’m really pleased with the results. Immediately after the first use my skin just felt ‘better’, it felt plumper and definitely looked more radiant. After a month I felt like I could really see a difference, the fine lines around my eyes appeared less visible, and my skin just looked brighter and more healthy than before.

newa-trial-review

I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a home-use beauty tool to help with wrinkles – at £349 I know the price is steep, but if you were to go for similar salon treatments you can bet you’d be spending a lot more than that. At least with the NEWA you get the convenience of using it in the comfort of your own home, at times to suit you.

The NEWA Beauty Tool is available now at NEWA Beauty for £349.00.

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Beauty News & Gossip 11/01/17: Jeffree Star, Huda Beauty, Too Faced & More!

Posted on January 11, 2017

Hi Guys!

It’s been quite a while since I published my last Beauty News & Gossip post, but you guys have told me that you like them, so I thought I’d start up the series again. I’m aiming to post on a weekly basis covering all the latest hot beauty news, influencer gossip and exciting new releases – enjoy!

Ok so I woke up this morning and the first thing I saw on my social feeds is that Jeffree Star has destroyed a $5.5k Chanel bag on his Youtube channel. Him and his BFF Manny MUA got together to cut up some makeup products with hot knives (as you do) just for LOLs, and Jeffree decided to take it one step further and mutilate a Chanel Boy bag from his collection. By the looks of things this has been one of his most viewed videos in such a short space of time since publishing, and comments have been falling in one of two very distinct camps – Jeffree fans are saying (very rightly so) that ‘it’s his money he can do what he likes with it’ but people are also saying (again very rightly so) comments along the lines of ‘people are starving in this world, and he chooses to do this..’. I totally agree that he can do what he likes with his own things, but he might as well be burning a $5k wad of cash for the sake of gaining views, which in my opinion is in very poor taste – but then would we expect anything else from Jeffree Star?? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

In other Jeffree Star news, he’s also recently announced that his much anticipated Androgyny Palette will be launching in March. The teasers above shows his second palette has a deep pink textured casing with gold lettering, and the eyeshadows look like they’re going to be a big hit with fans – there appears to be a range of intensely coloured warm matte shades included (judging by the colours Jeffree is wearing above) and I think it will be a total sell out.

You may have also noticed recently that Manny MUA is collaborating with Maybelline on their Big Shot Mascara campaign. I noticed this on Twitter when the ad first launched and didn’t really give it too much thought. Then it popped up again on Facebook via a BBC news article, I noticed there were thousands and thousands of comments, so thought I’d take a moment to look through. Oh my gosh, the public has had such a strong reaction to this, I really was quite shocked. It was very divided, with a disturbing amount of people being absolutely horrified that a man is wearing makeup (I mean, really?), but luckily there were plenty of positive comments too which appeared to outnumber the negative. It really does worry me how people can be so close minded – we’re in 2017 for Christ’s sake! I think it’s a great collab, and Manny is the perfect influencer to team up with Maybelline – maybe this just seems obvious to me though because I’m part of the beauty community? I don’t know, I think attitudes are changing, but we still have definitely a long way to go. I also think it’s a very clever marketing move on Maybelline’s part – what better way to get your beauty brand talked about across every media channel than to do something ‘controversial’ like having a male in full makeup as the star of the campaign – what do you think?

What would a news and gossip post be without Jaclyn Hill!? It looks like Jaclyn is coming out with another new collaboration within the next two months. She’s not giving away much at the moment but we know it’s an eyeshadow palette, and it’s in collaboration with a brand – maybe Becca again? Or maybe someone new?

I never managed to get my hands on the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Eyeshadow palette – though it looks stunning I just couldn’t justify the expense. She’s now teasing fans with the outer packaging of her upcoming Highlighter Palette – I can’t wait to see what’s inside, I bet it’s going to be stunning!

And lastly when it comes to influencers, it looks like Too Faced’s lasted collab will be with Youtuber Kandee Johnson. As a big Too faced fan I can’t wait to see what they’ll come up with together 😀

On to new products now, and you may have noticed that Too Faced is busting out new products like there’s no tomorrow right now, and I’ve just caught wind of yet another gorgeous looking launch – their beautiful Lovelight Highlighters will be coming in March this year – don’t they look gorgeous!

Anastasia has also just launched their first Lip Palette, which is perfect for those that like to experiment with lip shades and change their look frequently. This palette contains a large selection of lipsticks as well as primary colours and black and white shades, so you can pretty much come up with any colour imaginable! This is available now on the Anastasia US site but not yet on the Anastasia UK site.

After visiting New York last year on a press trip, and spending rather a lot of time in Sephora, I discovered Milk Makeup. I have their Cooling Water and Holographic Stick, both of which I love. And I recently heard about their brand new Blur Stick – it’s just now launched at Sephora, and it promised to blur skin’s imperfections to give you a ‘real life filter effect’. I really love the sound of this.

The brand that only a few months ago brought us the original Unicorn Makeup brushes (I have them but can’t bring myself to use them!) has recently announced an upcoming collection of Mermaid makeup brushes! Above you can see the original artist sketches for the brushes, it also says they’re now going into production, so watch this space for news of the launch date.

And oh my gosh, the Lancome Rose Collection is EVERYTHING. The highlighter is shaped like an actual rose and it’s just so beautiful! There’s also a limited edition brush to go with it, as well as a palette and a few other products in the collection. These are all available now on the Lancome US site. I can’t wait till it’s available in the UK!

And lastly, I also wanted to mention that that Kat Von D Pastel Goth Palette is available now at Sephora – as with all of Kat’s products this palette looks pretty awesome, it’s going on my wish list right now 🙂

I’d love to hear what you think about the latest news and gossip? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Beauty: Introducing Beauty Pie, the New Take on Beauty Subscriptions

Posted on January 3, 2017

Hi Guys!

Now I love a beauty box sub, and I love the surprise of not knowing whats going to arrive each month, but I also feel that this concept has become a bit stale of late, with many beauty box brands becoming quite repetitive with both the brands and products they use – the whole concept of beauty sub boxes is starting to feel a bit dated and could do with a shake up in my opinion. Anyway, this mini rant brings me nicely on to Beauty Pie – because initially I thought I’d received a new beauty box in the post – which in fact it wasn’t – but it is a subscription service for beauty fans…

Ok so in a nutshell, you subscribe to Beauty Pie for £10 a month, which allows you to be able to purchase their products, at very low ‘factory’ prices, rather than RRP prices.

It’s important to point out that rather than a beauty box, which includes many brands, Beauty Pie only offer their own branded products. Promising ‘luxury cosmetics at factory prices’, they aim to bring the consumer high quality makeup products, cutting out the middle man, expensive promotions and packaging, to bring maximum discounts to the consumer – all resulting in you being able to purchase products at cost prices. So for example, a Beauty Pie lipstick which has a RRP of £20.00, will cost a member less than £3.00 – which really does sound like a great bargain (providing the products are as good as they’re made out to be)

I’ve received a PR a box of five products from Beauty Pie, including a mascara, lip gloss, lipstick, powder and foundation. Here are my initial thoughts –

The Everyday Great Skin Foundation (RRP £30.00, member price £4.75) was unfortunately very much the wrong colour for me – I received Medium Honey was way too dark and way too orange, but by tying it on the back of my hand my initial impression is that it’s a nice, lightweight feeling matte finish foundation, with medium coverage. I’ll see if I can get a shade more matched to my skin tone so I can try it on my face and give you a better idea of what it’s really like. I also want to mention the packaging, which looks pretty. The foundation comes in a frosted glass pump bottle, with a glossy plastic pump at the top – but no lid, which I thought was slightly odd. The look and feel of the product packaging in general is sleek, yet surprisingly lightweight when you hold them. Beauty Pie have explained that they don’t add weights to their packaging like many manufacturers do, which of course is a tactic to make the product heavier, and therefore appear more expensive – I didn’t even realise this was a thing!

Next we have the One Powder Wonder Perfecting Powder (RRP £26.00, member price £3.68) I initially thought was a highlighter as the surface of the powder had quite a sheen with a very slight sparkle. It is in fact a translucent setting powder though – it’s super finely milled and really rather nice. I’ve used this a couple of times now and it sets my foundation well.

The Matte Lipstick in Cowboy Nude (RRP £20.00, member price £2.23) is a lovely mid nude / brown shade which is right up my street – it’s slightly more beige toned than the image looks above. The formula is surprisingly creamy, and easy to apply, and felt neither hydrating nor drying on my lips. And the Superglazy Lipgloss in Sugar Bun (RRP £19.00, member price £2.14) is a nice non-sticky gloss – and the shade Sugar Bun matches the lipstick really well. There’s nothing particularly special about this gloss, but for just over £2.00 I think it’s a bargain.

And lastly the Uber Volume Boost Mascara (RRP £20.00, member price £1.93) – I’m quite fussy with mascaras and I was actually rather surprised with this one as I really rather liked it! My short straight lashes can be a real pain, but this mascara gave a nice curl with a decent level of volume without being to heavy – this is great for every day wear for me.

Overall my initial impression is this is pretty decent makeup (but not particularly outstanding)  and the member prices really are fantastic for the quality you’re getting – BUT – when you consider you’re spending £10 a month on a subscription, and might not buy products every month, the amount you’re spending will soon tot up. Even if you don’t purchase anything for only one month, your £2.14 lip gloss has suddenly cost you £22.14 (£10 for last month’s subscription, £10 for the current month’s, plus the lip gloss cost price) – so though I do like the concept, I think you really need to weigh it up before being bowled over by the Beauty Pie’s crazy cheap prices.

I’d love to hear what you think of this concept? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Christmas: Luxury Beauty, Skincare & Fragrance Gift Sets

Posted on December 19, 2016

Hi Guys!

So who’s ready for christmas then? I’m definitely not! There’s still pretty much a week to go though so there’s still plenty of time to pick up some bits if you need to, and hopefully this luxury gift set gift guide will offer a good dose of inspiration too – enjoy!

Starting with the Molton Brown Pink Pepperpod Pampering Body Gift Set – I love Molton Brown products, and anyone that loves a pampering soak in the bath would be delighted to receive this set on Christmas day. The Pink Pepperpod Pampering Gift Set contains a generous 300ml Body Wash and a Nourishing Body Lotion of the same size, as well as a 50ml Body Polisher. This set includes everything you need for an ultimate skin-pampering experience, with the alluring aroma of Molton Brown’s signature feminine scent.

A fragrance gift set will always go down well as a gift – this Narciso Rodriguez Narciso EDP Gift set contains a beautiful Narciso Rodriguez Narciso Eau de Parfum (50ml), along with a matching scented Body Lotion, and a glossy finish Makeup Pouch. Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez is a fragrance inspired by the elegance of woods and the delicate femininity of a white-flower bouquet combined with the amber notes of a warm heart of musk. If you haven’t tried this yet, I highly recommend that you do!

For those into skincare, the Dermalogica Skin Perfecting Set contains everything you need to achieve beautiful, glowing skin both day and night. The set includes a Skin Perfecting Primer SPF30 (22ml) and an Overnight Repair Serum (15ml) which are both full of peptide-rich formulas to keep skin firm and smooth while minimising the visible signs of ageing.

Another fragrance option is the wonderful Jimmy Choo Illicit Flower EDT Gift Set – at a very reasonable £40.80 this set offers real value for money as you get a Jimmy Choo Illicit Flower EDT (60ml) and a matching 100ml Body Lotion. If you haven’t heard of Illicit Flower, it’s the newest edition to the Jimmy Choo portfolio – the fragrance opens with voluptuous notes of apricot, zest of mandarin and the floral notes of freesia. In the heart, enhanced by a vibrant duo of grapefruit flower and jasmine, the ultra-feminine rose weaves her charms, whilst delicately wrapped in a soft and sensual musk. In the base, sensual woody notes of cashmeran meet the creaminess of sandalwood to perfectly close the fragrance – it really is gorgeous!

And for those fans of classic scents, the Mugler Angel Muse Gift Set is bound to be a winner. Angel Muse is a vibrant, sensual and addictive fragrance, with sweet notes of juicy grapefruit, pink berries, and smooth hazelnut cream-cocoa blended with vetiver to create a delicious indulgence which ignites the senses. This gift set contains an Angel Muse 50ml refillable EDP and a complimentary 5ml EDP Miniature.

The height of luxury when it comes to home scent, has to be Floris London Rose & Oud Home Fragrance Duo. This luxury gift set includes both the Rose & Oud Luxury Scented Candle and Rose & Oud Room Fragrance presented in a beautiful blue and gold box, fastened with the Floris seal of approval. Opulent floral rose is wrapped around the bold intensity of oud, cinnamon and clove. Calming cedarwood, renowned for its relaxing properties, is supported with transparent musks and warm, smooth sandalwood. A complex blend throughout the fragrance brings in subtle oriental accords that add depth to this home fragrance collection.

And another kit that really is rather fabulous, but not necessarily a brand you’d consider for gifting – the Tweezerman Rose Gold Love Story Gift Set is a beautiful rose gold coloured set containing a luxury makeup bag, with matching rose gold coloured Slant Tweezers and Procurl Lash Curler.

The Decleor Box of Secrets Calm Headspace is a beautiful gift set perfect for those passionate about skincare. The box opens from the centre with two doors, to reveal the Calm Headspace collection inside, which includes some of DECLÉOR’s greatest soothing and moisturising products, to leave you feeling silky and smooth, head to toe. The set contains an Aroma Confort Moisturizing Body Milk (100ml), Aromessence Rose d’Orient Soothing Oil Serum (5ml) and a Harmonie Calm Soothing Light Cream (50ml).

Continuing along the skincare theme, the Temple Spa Truffle Luxe Gift Collection really is luxury at its finest. If you purchase either the Skin Truffle or Truffle Noir, plus the Eye Truffle, then you will receive the Truffesque Masque for free – giving you a rather hefty saving of £50.00!

Onto hair now, the Paul Mitchell United In Pink Blow Out Cancer Set is a four-piece collection housed in a handy zipped travel bag. ‘United in Pink’ is a campaign dedicated to supporting Bright Pink, the only national non-profit organisation focused on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women. The Set Contains and Extra-Body Daily Shampoo (300ml), and Extra-Body Daily Rinse (300ml), a Thicken Up Spray (200ml), and a Sculpting Brush. This is a fantastic gift with the added bonus of supporting a very worthwhile cause.

Christmas Gifting with Zoeva: Plaisir Box, Lip Lacquers & Strobe Gels

Posted on December 15, 2016

Hi Guys!

Out of all the beauty brands in the world, Zoeva is definitely up there with my favourites. Their products are always of a high quality, as well as being beautifully packaged. But when their new Plaisir Box arrived a few weeks ago, I actually couldn’t contain my excitement…

The Zoeva Plaisir box (pleasure box) is a beautifully presented gift box containing three of Zoeva’s stunning eyeshadow palettes. The theme of the set is chocolate, with each palette representing a type of chocolate – white, milk and dark. The set contains two brand new palettes – the Blanc Fusion Eyeshadow Palette and Caramel Melange Eyeshadow Palette as well as their best-selling Cocoa Blend Eyeshadow Palette…

An ode to the fine art of confectionary and a revelation to all beauty gourmets and sensualists, the ZOEVA PLAISIR BOX merges the full pleasure and varieties of chocolate, transferred into cosmetics. From dark brown to fawn and white, indulge in a carefully selected assortment of three tempting eyeshadow delights: sumptuous pralinés, creamy caramel and exquisite white chocolate.

The Cocoa Blend Palette is possibly my favourite out of the three. It contains a selection of warm truffle tones with both matte and shimmer finishes, and the shades are both intense in pigmentation and silky smooth to apply. I absolutely love the shade range in this palette, with Warm Notes and Freshly Toasted being two of my favourite shades – this palette is just perfect for create a glamorous evening look.

The Caramel Melange Palette is slightly lighter and brighter in tone than the above Cocoa Blend Palette, but still warm and definitely vibrant. There are some gorgeous bronze and butterscotch shades in this palette, as well as Aftertaste, which I love, it’s a striking matte cinnamon orange, which would make for a beautiful transition shade.

And lastly the Blank Fusion Palette, as you can probably guess this one represents white chocolate, and has a distinct milky white, cream and yellow theme. This palette again contains a lovely mix of matte and shimmer shades, enabling you to create a plethora of eye looks.

When you put all the palettes together, you really have a stunning selection of eyeshadows that can be mixed and matched to your heart’s content 🙂

And if you didn’t know, Zoeva also have a fantastic range of lip products on offer, including their Pure Velour Lips (£9.75) which is a matte finish liquid lipstick offering a lightweight, full coverage formula. I have shades All is Calm – a dark rosy brown shown above top, and Clear Message – a pretty blushed nude, shown above middle.

Zoeva’s Pure Lacquer Lips, in contrast, is a moisturising liquid lipstick with a striking high-shine finish. I have shade Unrefined – a warm beige nude which is highly pigmented with a lovely glossy finish.

And lastly, one of Zoeva’s newest releases is their range of Strobe Gels (£11.00). These weightless highlighting gels are ideal for adding a touch of dewy luminescence to the complexion. The super lightweight gel formula is easy to use and blend, and comes in three wearable shades –

  • Halo – a pearl gel with silver shimmer for fair to light skin tones.
  • Corona – a peachy gel with rose gold shimmer for light to medium skin tones.
  • Aureole – a bronze gel with gold shimmer for medium to dark skin tones.

I really can’t get enough of these products right now, and if you’re stuck for gift ideas this Christmas, I highly recommend you check out Zoeva’s fantastic makeup and brush range.

The Plaisir Box is currently sold out in the UK, but available direct from Zoeva for £48.00, and the Strobe Gels and Lip products are all currently available at Beauty Bay.

Posted on November 18, 2016

net-a-porter-ultimate-beauty-kit

Hi Guys!

I just happened to be browsing the Net-A-Porter site today and noticed this rather amazing set on sale. It’s not an advent calendar as such, in fact it’s much better as it contains 32 products rather than 24 or even 12.

The Ultimate Beauty Kit is described as an expertly curated set including 32 cult-favorite products covering makeup, skincare and hair, from top brands such as Hourglass, Charlotte Tilbury, Burberry Beauty, Sunday Riley and many more.

The kit contains 16 travel size and 16 full size products – now I don’t know about you but I think that’s pretty amazing really. When you look at the price of other luxury advent calendars, and consider that the majority of the products included are travel size, they make this looks like an amazing deal. I’m currently waiting on confirmation of which products are full size, and the size of the travel sized ones too, so as soon as I find out I’ll update the info below.

Here’s a list of everything that’s included – I’ve also added links to the individual products in case you want to look at them in more detail:

Ok so I’ve now got all the prices and details of which are the full sized products, and I’ve worked out that you’ve got about £574.98 worth of beauty goodness here. I mean how amazing is that!!

If you missed out on a luxury advent calendar this year, I’d definitely recommend checking this set out. You can purchase the Ultimate Beauty Kit for £150 now at Net-a-Porter.
