Beauty: Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip Collection & Rose Skincare Products

Posted on January 29, 2018

Hi Guys!

Just before Christmas I received the most gorgeous PR package from Pixi Beauty – it was a beautiful locked box (that I’m totally keeping for storing pretty things in!) containing their brand new MatteLast Liquid Lip Collection, as well as a couple of their new rose themed skincare products. Let’s take a look a the lipsticks first…

The new MatteLast Liquid Lipsticks (£16.00) promise to be extremely longwearing & comfortable to wear, they’re infused with rosehip oil to leave lips feeling hydrated, whilst giving lips intense pigmentation with a matte finish.

Firstly, the shade selection is beautiful. Pixi have launched this collection with five nude pink shades that are all easy to wear, perfect day to day colours, for a ‘your lips but better’ natural look. The formula is excellent, it feels lightweight on the lips and it’s intensely pigmented, with only one ‘dip’ needed to fully cover your lips. It also dries down quickly to a full matte finish which pretty much lasts all day. I have to say this is one of the best matte finish liquid lipsticks I’ve tried!

There are currently five natural shades available (left to right) –

  • Au Naturelle – a light nude peach.
  • Matte Beige – a warm toned beige.
  • Pastel Petal – a pink toned beige.
  • Really Rose – a mid rose pink.
  • Evening Rose – a deep rose pink.

You can see that some of the shades are quite similar – Matte Beige has slightly more of a caramel tone compared to Pasted Petal, and Really Rose is slightly lighter in colour than Evening Rose. Really Rose is definitely my favourite!

Just a side note – I’ve just quickly looked at the Pixi site and noticed they’ve now added another shade to the collection – Prettiest Pink, which looks to be a cool toned Barbie pink shade.

I also have the brand new Rose Caviar Essence (£26.00) – this is a gel-like serum that has been designed to soften, refine and tone the skin. It contains tiny encapsulated flower oil spheres suspended in the serum, which burst on contact, melting into the skin to hydrate and restore brightness, for optimum radiance.

I really love the texture of the Rose Caviar Essence, it’s super lightweight, and turns into a hydrating liquid once applied to the skin. The flower oils penetrate the skin without any greasiness, and it just leaves your complexion feeling smooth and hydrated, with a lovely light rose scent.

And lastly the Rose Flash Balm (£26.00) – this is a radiance-boosting balm, perfect for giving life to tired and dull skin, and for helping with signs of fatigue. It has an oil-free, quick absorbing formula that promises to instantly moisturise and brighten – it can be used either as a primer before you apply makeup, or as a revitalising face mask.

Personally, I prefer to use this as a primer – you only need a small amount, and I found it really helped to even out my complexion, making my pores appear smaller, as well as giving my skin a much needed over all brightening effect due to the slight pink tint of the balm. This is definitely another must have!

The above products are available now at Pixi Beauty, M&S and Cult Beauty.

Beauty: Too Faced Peaches & Cream Collection

Posted on January 22, 2018

Hi Guys!

Before Christmas I was fortunate enough to be invited to the launch party for the brand new Too Faced store at Carnaby Street, London. This is pretty big news for the brand as it’s their first ever stand alone store worldwide – and the party was SO much fun! We got to check out loads of new products which are only available in the UK exclusively in store, and we were then transported (via rickshaw!) to the after party, it was the best night!

I was also given the most amazing goody bag at the event, containing absolutely loads of Too Faced products. The bag included pretty much the whole new Peaches & Cream Collection which I want to share with you today…

Starting with the Just Peachy Mattes Eyeshadow Palette (£33.00) – this gorgeous looking palette contains 12 matte eyeshadows in a selection of beautiful warm tones. The eyeshadow formula is infused with Too Faced’s exclusive Comfort Matte Technology, promising an easily bendable finish with intense colour payoff – and of course the whole palette smells of Peaches & Sweet Fig Cream! I’m so pleased that these eyeshadows applied just as nicely as I’d hoped – I won’t lie, the formula was a little on the stiff side, but not so bad that it caused a problem. If you’re looking for a warm toned matte-only palette this is definitely worth checking out.

I have a few of the cheek products too – the three above are all housed in similar peach shaped packaging, and all have a melting powder formula. This means they have a creamy texture which transforms into a lightweight powder on application. All three promise buildable, bendable colour, and have the same light peaches and cream scent.

The Peach My Cheeks Blush in So Peachy (£25.00) can be used on both the face and lips, and I found it was easiest applied with fingers rather than a brush. The formula is creamy and velvety soft on the skin, giving a subtle and very pretty hint of colour on the cheeks. The Peach Frost Highlighter in Happy Face (£25.00) again has a creamy texture that turns powdery soft on application, and again I found application with fingers definitely worked the best. This highlighter is a light champagne colour, and gives a subtle shimmery highlight. And the Bronzed Peach Bronzer in Toasted Peach (£25.00) – just like the previous two, I applied this with my fingers but found this one a bit harder to work with. I felt like this was harder to blend out and look even, though somebody more skilled than me could probably make it work pretty easily!

If you prefer powder formulas to creams, Too Faced also have a Sweetie Pie Powder Bronzer (£25.00) which honestly is the prettiest product I’ve ever seen! The compact includes four blendable shades which combine to give a radiant complexion and a soft, flawless look. The compact has a light gold overspray, which only lasts for a few uses, and the actual product underneath has a really nice pearly satin finish with buildable colour that’s very flattering. This worked really well on my pale skin and gave my complexion a lovely natural looking glow.

And there’s also a Peach Blur Finishing Powder (£25.00) – this is a translucent smoothing finishing powder with opal-correcting spheres to smooth harsh lines and blur imperfections. Though this powder appears peach coloured, it applies translucent and gives a super smooth, blurring effect that makes your skin look amazing! This powder also eliminates shine and just generally smoothes out the complexion – and I’m happy to say it doesn’t cling to dry areas. This is probably my favourite product out of the collection!

There is also a Peaches & Cream Foundation, which I don’t have, but I do have the Peach Perfect Mattifying Setting Powder (£20.00) – this is a universal peach tinted setting powder designed to brighten the skin and create a silky smooth matte canvas. This product is oil and shine free, transfer-resistant, and promises 14 hours of wear. The formula is talc based and is super finely milled, making it feel amazingly soft and silky on the skin, and thought it didn’t live up to the 14 hours as promised, a light dusting of this did keep my nose matte for over half the day, and it didn’t cling to my dry skin, so this is a winner in my books!

Now on to the Peach Mist Mattifying Setting Spray (£27.00) – this is described as a refreshing, oil-controlling setting spray to keep makeup in place. It promises a matte finish, decreased shine and a soft-focus finish to blur imperfections, and it’s also supposed to last up to 16 hours. Again, the wear time has definitely been embellished here, but I did find that this gave my skin a lovely matte finish, which lasted around six hours or so.

And the Primed & Peachy Primer (£27.00) – this is a cooling primer that helps to blur flaws and smooth the complexion with a brightening peach tint. It gives a soft-focus finish that’s lightweight and comfortable. It also promises 12 hours of shine control, which again I think is reaching a bit, but it is a nice primer that definitely gives your foundation a decent matte base.

And lastly, I have a couple of the Peach Kiss Lipsticks (£19.00) – these lipsticks are of course packaged beautifully, and promise an intensely pigmented matte finish with eight hours of wear. The shades I have are Got Peach? a nude terracotta pink, and Where My Peaches At? which is a bright tangerine orange. Both shades are amazingly well pigmented and feel very comfortable and creamy on the lips. The finish isn’t a full on matte like you’d get with a liquid lipstick, but it’s still a very good demi-matte. These shades are really very nice but you’ll want to make sure your lips are in tip top condition before applying.

So what are my final thoughts? Well to begin with, the packaging is spot on. It’s cute, yet grown up and luxe feeling – definitely dressing table worthy. I absolutely loved the Just Peachy Mattes Eyeshadow Palette, Sweetie Pie Bronzer and Peach Blur Finishing Powder, and I’d highly recommend these if you’re looking to pick up a couple of items from the collection. Nothing was hideously bad in my books, though a couple of products could have been slightly better in terms of formula – and as a final thought, you should just be wary if you’re sensitive to or just not keen on scented products, as the whole collection is scented, with some products stronger than others. Personally I love the peachy scent, and I definitely think this collection is worth checking out of you’re a fan of Too Faced!

Beauty: Chanel AW17 Makeup Collection

Posted on January 19, 2018

Hi Guys!

I have a few gorgeous products from Chanel to share with you today – The Chanel AW17 beauty collection is based on travel, with each shade taking inspiration from a road trip around California. Chanel’s global creative makeup designer, Luca Pica has included some beautiful and very wearable shades in this collection. Read on to find out more –

Starting with the Palette Essentielle (£52.00) – this is a 3-in-1 face palette offering concealer, highlighter, and blush together in a handy compact, for a fresh and glowing complexion.

The concealer has a light, balmy texture, and it won’t give you full on heavy coverage, but it’s definitely handy for light to medium coverage of general imperfections. The highlighter and blush both have a cream formula, which I find works best by applying with fingers. The highlighter is a light creamy champagne colour, best suited to lighter skin tones (as is the whole palette really – I have the lightest option available, Beige Clair) and it gives a lovely glow to the cheekbones. The blush is also very good, easy to blend out and gives a natural looking flush of colour. I have to say I was a bit unsure of this palette to begin with, but it’s actually pretty great and very handy for touch ups when you’re out and about.

For lips I have the new Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Colour (£28.00) in shade 156 Lost. The Rouge Allure Ink is a weightless feel matte liquid lip colour, with fine and dense pigments, promising 8 hours of wear. It feels really comfortable to apply, and actually feels slightly moisturising, which is pretty unheard of for a matte liquid lipstick. The pigmentation of this shade isn’t fully opaque, and doesnt dry down to a true matte finish like most matte liquid lipsticks do. This is definitely a product for those wanting a matte lip look, without the drying effect of a traditional matte liquid lipstick.

If you’re into more classic lip products, the Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour (£28.00) in 474 Daylight could be more up your street. This is such a beautiful shade, it’s a light peachy nude that’s super hydrating and just feels wonderful on the lips. This is also in fact a new formula, and I’m definitely impressed! There are 24 shades available too so there should something to suit everyone.

For the eyes, the Les 4 Ombres Palette (£42.00) Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow in 286 City Lights is one of two new eyeshadow palettes. The shades in the City Lights palette are just stunning, they include a selection of nudes with a satiny shimmer finish, which kind of reminds me of Tom Ford’s famous Nude Dip Palette.

I honestly adore these shades! They’re perfect for a lighter, nude eye look which can be achieved with a light sweep of colour, or a more intense smoky eye, and the eyeshadow formula is just beautiful – they’re soft and buttery and blend together easily.

And I also have the Signature De Chanel Intense Longwear Eyeliner Pen (£31.00) – this eyeliner contains a high concentration of ultra-fine pigments for pure, intense and even colour, and a super soft, fine brush, for precision application. Interestingly, the eyeliner comes with the ink in a separate cartridge, like a fountain pen, so you need to insert this yourself – at least you know the product is ‘fresh’ and hasn’t been drying up on a shelf! This eyeliner gives an intense black line, that applies evenly and lasts all day.

And lastly I have the Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour (£20.00) – Chanel have added two new nail shades for AW17, there’s 576 Horizon Line, a muted steely grey, and the shade I have, 578 New Dawn, a light nude taupe, which I absolutely love – it’s the prefect nude taupe shade for paler gals like myself!

You can purchase all the above Chanel products now at Feel Unique.

Fragrance: Penhaligon’s The Ruthless Countess Dorothea EDP

Posted on January 18, 2018

Hi Guys!

The latest addition to Penhaligon’s wonderful Portrait Collection has been sitting in my ‘to try’ box at TSNC HQ for a good few weeks now, and I thought it was about time I gave it a go – Penhaligon’s is one of my favourite niche fragrance brands, and I know if this is anything like the rest of the Portraits collection, I’ll absolutely love it! Let’s take a look at the fragrance…

So to start with, if you’re not familiar with the Portraits Collection, it’s a range of fragrances based on characters from the British aristocracy. Each fragrance represents and character, and each character comes with a whole backstory to their personality and life. (You can see my write up for the last Portraits launch, Clandestine Clara here)

Penhaligon’s have recently added four new fragrances to the range, (two male and two female) of which I have The Ruthless Countess Dorothea – I love how dramatic this sounds! Dorothea is described as a most ferocious matriarch, known for her sharp mind, even sharper wit and a secret fondness for the company of younger men – Dorothea also has an illegitimate son, she’s a scandalous character fond of alcohol, love affairs and ambiguous behaviour – and I think I’d really like to be friends with her!! I predict this scent is going to be a bit racy!

Well, the fragrance is just stunning, as expected – it’s incredibly warm and comforting, and it lingers all day after only one spray in the morning. I guess I expected something quite strong, overpowering even, but it’s actually very wearable, yet still noticeable – my husband said ‘ooh what’s that perfume you’re wearing, I like it!’ – it’s also subtly intoxicating and alluring. This is easily now my new favourite scent from Penhaligon’s and if you’re fans of the Portraits range, this really is a must try. This is fragrance definitely not to be missed!

  • Top Notes: Bergamot, Ginger and Chinese Cinnamon Wood.
  • Heart Notes: Red Ginger Oil, Beeswax, Clary Sage and Mate.
  • Base Notes: Sherry-Cashmeran, Vanilla and White Wine.

The Ruthless Countess Dorothea EDP is available at Penhaligon”s and Jarrold now.

Beauty: New from Nip+Fab: Highlighters, Liquid Lipsticks & Skincare

Posted on January 17, 2018

Hi Guys!

Ok so I’m finally back! I’ve had a much needed few weeks off over Christmas and the New Year – not all completely intentionally though as I’ve been unwell, and with one thing and another I’ve just had to give the blog a bit of a back seat lately. But now things are looking up, and I’m back into the swing of things! And I’m kicking things off with a little overview of some brand new releases from Nip & Fab…

Starting with the Liquid Gold Highlighters (£12.99) – these liquid highlighters are a fantastic dupe for Cover FX’s Custom Enhancer Drops, and less than half the price! The texture is slightly thicker than Cover FX, but the effect is pretty much identical. They’re incredibly shimmery and give the skin a gorgeous glow, without any glitter or chunkiness. Currently Nip + Fab have three shades available which will suit most skin tones –

  • White Gold – a light, pink toned metallic champagne, for light and fair completions.
  • Rose Gold – a medium, champagne gold, for both light and medium complexions.
  • Deep Gold – a mid metallic bronze, suitable for darker complexions.

Next, Nip + Fab have also just added three new shades of Matte Liquid Lipsticks (£7.95) to their collection. The new After Hours shades are dark and intense, and interestingly include a blue and a green, which I love! The shades in the tubes look slightly darker than they actually dry down to. I was expecting the blue to be a very deep, almost black midnight blue shade, but it’s actually a beautiful intense royal blue, and definitely my favourite of the three. They dry down pretty quickly to a true matte finish and are really good value for money, but I should mention they do stain, so just bear that in mind especially if you’re interested in the blue or green shades.

  • Black Grape – a deep mulberry.
  • Blueberry Sorbet – an intense royal blue.
  • Cool Mint – a deep emerald green.

On to skincare now, I have the new Glycolic Fix Liquid Glow (£19.95) – which instantly made me think of Pixi’s Glow Tonic. The Glycolic Fix Liquid Glow contains a blend of exfoliating acids to deeply cleanse the skin and help unclog pores, for a more refined skin surface.

The difference between this product and Pixi’s Glow Tonic is that Nip + Fab’s Glycolic Fix Liquid Glow has 6% Glycolic Acid, compared to Pixi’s 5%, and Nip + Fab have also included Salicylic Acid to help unclog pores and help with exfoliation, and Allantoin to soothe and protect the skin. If you’re looking for a liquid exfoliator stronger than Pixi’s Glow Tonic this is definitely worth checking out, but if you have super sensitive skin, I’d probably give this one a miss. Nip + Fab’s product is also more expensive, so definitely bear that in mind.

And I also have the No Needle Fix Night Cream (£19.95) – this is an intensive night cream with slow-release retinol, which works while you sleep to help reduce the visible signs of ageing. It has a creamy texture which is enriched with moisturising oils to provides hydration, for a radiant and revitalized complexion. It promises to leave skin feeling supple and nourished, and visibly rejuvenated.

Nip + Fab also now offer a selection of Individual Masks. I won’t go into the full details for each of them, but they cover most skincare requirements when it comes to masks, including exfoliation, plumping and hydration – so take your pick! I have’t tried these yet but I’m hoping for good results!

  • Dragon’s Blood Fix Plumping Mask Extreme
  • Glycolic Fix Bubble Mask Extreme
  • Dragon’s Blood Fix Hydration Mask
  • Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Mask
  • No Needle Fix Eye Mask

So what do you think? Overall I’m really impressed with Nip + Fab’s latest products, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

Firstly I have the gorgeous House of Holland We Rule The World Eyeshadow Palette (£12.00) – The Body Shop have teamed up with House of Holland this Christmas, to offer festive collection of limited edition fun and colourful products, including makeup, skincare and gift sets (Just search ‘HOH’ on the Body Shop site to see everything that’s currently available) I have one of two HOH Palettes – the We Rule The World Palette includes three vibrant eye shadows in matte and shimmer finishes, one lip colour and a highlighter. This palette in particular is just what you need for getting party ready as it includes a deep blue toned grey eyeshadow, perfect for a smokey eye, and a gorgeous bright pink lip colour.

For those that prefer a cream eye colour, the Eye Colour Sticks (£8.00) are definitely worth checking out. Offering high definition metallic eyeshadow in an easy to apply stick form, these eyeshadows are perfect for those that favour an easy swipe of colour, that’s intense, long lasting and waterproof. I have shades Siberian Quartz, which is a gorgeous deep plum purple shade with a metallic shimmer, and Nevada Gold, which is a muted gold shade, again with a striking metallic finish.

Another product which is quite interesting, is the Instamatte Cream (£12.00) – this handy little product is the perfect multi-use tool to create a matte finish anywhere you need it. You can use this on your bare face before foundation, to act as a mattifying primer, or you can use it after foundation if that works better for you. It can also be used on top of your lipstick to give a matte finish, or as an eyeshadow primer to prolong wear. This is such a handy product to keep in your bag for when you’re on the go and need to absorbs excess oil and mattify on demand.

And lastly I have the gorgeous Glitter Dust (£7.00) – Christmas time is all about colour, shimmer and shine, and I just love adding glitter to pretty much every makeup look! The Body Shop’s Glitter Dust comes in two sparkling shades, Pink and Gold, and can be used on cheeks, décolletage and hair to give you a wonderful shimmering sparkle day or night. I love this pretty pink shade and can’t wait to wear it on my next night out!

I’d love to hear if you wear The Body Shop makeup? And which products you’d recommend? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
