Lifestyle: Moi-Meme October Hygge Box Review

Posted on November 6, 2016

moi-meme-october-hygge-box-review

Hi Guys!

If you haven’t heard of Moi-Meme, this is a brand new quarterly lifestyle box which launched earlier this year, and I think this is only their second box. I love that each box has a theme – and I have to admit I did google ‘hygge’ to find the exact meaning as well as how to pronounce it. I knew it was Danish, and it was some sort of new lifestyle trend, but wasn’t sure of the exact meaning…

So for those as in the dark as I was, Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) roughly translates to ‘cosiness’ but it actually means much more than that. Hygge is a whole lifestyle concept, where you take simple every day tasks and make them more meaningful –

Hygge; noun – a fundamental quality of Danish culture, Hygge cannot be translated using a single word. Rather, it includes many of the pleasures associated with everyday living – relaxing with friends, enjoying good food, and creating a cosy evening by lighting a candle or two.

The Mio-Meme Hygge box contains a fab selection of products aiming to help you feel warm and cozy this winter, as well as a couple of skincare and jewellery treats too –

  • Cosy Sleep Socks (£18.00)
  • Lavender Bag (£5.00)
  • Nuori Vital Foaming Cleanser 100ml (worth £25.00)
  • Nuori Vital Eye Cream 5ml (worth £16.66)
  • Edblad Monaco Bracelet (worth £26.00)
  • The Bath Candle Company Somerset Apple & Cinnamon Candle (worth £25.00)

Total value of box = £115.66. Considering the box is £49.95 per quarter, you’re definitely getting good value for money.

My favourite product in this box has to be The Bath Candle Company Candle – apart from looking super chic it also smells amazing! The scent is Somerset Apple & Cinnamon and it really smells to die for. I’ve just taken a look at their site and their other scents sound wonderful too. I think I’ll be popping their Orange & Chilli candle on my Christmas list!

cosy-sleep-socks

Next are the Cosy Sleep Socks from Love Yawn. These socks are wonderfully soft and include a small amount of cashmere in the material, to give an element of luxury and comfort. Now the weather has gotten colder I’ve been wearing them in bed, and my toes have been super toasty and warm.

edblad-monaco-bracelet

I was really surprised to find a gorgeous bracelet in the box – this gorgeous Monaco Bracelet from Edblad of Stockholm is just so delicate and pretty – and even if it’s not your style, it would make a fabulous Christmas gift.

nuori-vital-foaming-cleanser

There’s also a couple of skincare products in the box from Nuori. I haven’t heard of this brand before so looked them up and found out that they are in fact Danish, which of course goes nicely with the Hygge theme. What makes them different to every other skincare brand is they make small batches of products every 12 weeks – therefore each product is fresh and includes less additives and preservatives thank your average skincare. You can read more about them here.

Their Vital Foaming Cleanser is a luxuriously creamy cleanser that removed makeup and impurities without stripping the skin of its natural oils, and the Vital Eye Cream sample is a lightweight eye cream that promises to hydrate the eye area whilst reducing the signs of ageing.

And lastly the Rainy Days Lavender Bag from Love Yawn. This super cute fabric bag is filled with fragrant lavender, which is known for its calming and relaxing effects. You can with put this under your pillow to help you get a good night’s sleep, or throw in a drawer to keep your clothes smelling fresh.

I’m really impressed with the Moi-Meme Hygge Box – though it is on the expensive side, the products included are of fantastic quality, and it’s also worth remembering that this box is quarterly – which (when you consider shipping costs) makes it a similar cost to most monthly beauty boxes when you add up the price over a quarter.

moi-meme-october-hygge-box-2016

The Hygge box was so popular that unsurprisingly it has now sold out. So if you think this looks good and fancy signing up for Moi-Meme’s next box – if you subscribe before December 31st you will receive your first box in January. I should mention however, that most of the items from the Hygge box are still available to buy individually in the Moi-Meme shop, so definitely check that out if you like the look of these products.

You can also use code TSNC5 to get £5 off your first box – this has no expiry date 🙂

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Wantable November Makeup Box | Review

Posted on November 26, 2014

november-wantable-box

Hi Guys!

This month’s Wantable box arrived in record time, and I was excited to find a brand I’d never heard of before inside – Surratt Beauty. After looking into this company the products look rather good – they’re stocked in Liberty and have a high price point, so now I have high hopes and I really hope I’m not going to be disappointed!

surratt-beauty-smokey-eye-baton

surratt-beauty-smokey-eye-baton-review

First up is the Surratt Beauty Smokey Eye Baton in Mauve, $35.00

This is supposed to be a creamy liner with a smudger at the other end to create a smokey eye look. The liner is great but there’s no smudger! I’m not sure what happened there – the description includes mention of a smudger, as does other online descriptions but there’s definitely not one in sight!

Good points – The product has a creamy, smooth texture that’s easily blendable. I love the shade I received, Mauve. It’s a beautiful deep purple that’s easily build able and a great alternative to black.

Not so good points – There’s no smudger! Boo!

surratt-beauty-concealer-fair

surratt-beauty-concealer-review

Next is another Surratt product, this is the Concealer in Fair, $50.00

Surratt’s concealer stick adheres to skin perfectly and wears beautifully for flawless, long-lasting, full coverage.

Good points – This definitely feels like a premium product, it has a matte finish that blends well and easily covered my dark circles.

Not so good points – Depending on your skin tone, this shade could be too light for you. Luckily I’m white as a ghost so it’s perfect for me, and if you’d like to try the concealer there are plenty of other shades available. Also it’s worth mentioning that the product is only a tiny 1.9g which really is super small for the $50.00 price tag.

yourminerals-eyeshadow-lime

yourminerals-eyeshadow-lime-review

Next is the Yourminerals Loose Eyeshadow in Lime, $22.00

Good points – I love love LOVE this shade, it’s such a beautiful pale olive green that’s super finely milled with gold sparkles. It catches the light beautifully and has a lovely soft consistency.

Not so good points – There’s nothing wrong with the actual product, but there’s nothing to stop the powder going everywhere inside the pot. There are four square holes that you tip the shadow out of and nothing to close them off so it just all comes out inside the lid. This shouldn’t be a problem as long as you’re careful when unscrewing the lid.

vincent-longo-blush-brush

And finally a Vincent Longo Deluxe Blush Brush, $24.00

Good points – I’ve had some Vincent Longo brushes in previous boxes and I’m never disappointed. This is a premium synthetic brush with long flexible bristles. It’s super soft and lovely to use.

Bad points – None!

Overall this little box included products valuing a massive $131.00 (£83.11) I’m pretty sure it’s the highest value box I’ve had so far! I’m really impressed with the selection of products included and hoping to see more of Surratt Beauty in future boxes!

You can check out Wantable and sign up here.

I hope you enjoyed my review! xxx

Glossybox November | Review

november-glossybox

Hi Guys!

Following on from the totally amazing Harvey Nichols limited edition Glossybox, I received a surprise parcel in the post, which happened to be November’s Glossybox! I’m sure you’ve heard of Glossybox but just incase you haven’t, it’s a monthly subscription box containing a mixture of full sized and trial size beauty products. You can buy a one off box for £10, or subscribe which works out less per month depending on which subscription option you choose.

november-glossybox-review

Here’s what’s in November’s box –

  • Umberto Giannini Miracle Worker (125ml full size) £8
  • Monu Skincare Refining Capri Facial Oil (30ml sample) worth £7.80
  • H20+ Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment (8ml sample) worth £4.40
  • Lollipops Makeup Eye Pencil (full size) £11.18
  • Burt’s Bees Lip Shine (full size) £6.99

Total value of box – £38.37

I think this box contains a great mixture of products, I imagine there would definitely be at least a couple of items everyone would be happy with. My personal favourite is the H20+ Hydrating Treatment, I’ve used this once and it’s really soothed my super dry skin. I’m also a big fan of Monu products and I love the super cute packaging of the Lollipops Eyeliner! I’ve never heard of this brand before, I’ve just taken a look at their site and I love the look of the products, they kind of remind me of Paul & Joe cosmetics, I hope Glossybox will be including them in future boxes! I also think it’s great that Glossybox have included three full size items in this box, I’m really impressed!

I should also mention that November’s box contained a ‘Best Secret’ invitation card with a £20 voucher. Best secret is a site similar to Secret Sales, where you can grab loads of designer bargains! I’m going to take a good look around the site when I get a chance!

I hope you enjoyed my review, I’d love to hear what you think? xxx

Wantable October Makeup Box | Review

wantable-october-box-review

Hi Guys!

It’s time for another Wantable box! October’s box definitely looked to be a good one on first glance, this is the only box (I think) that’s had five items in! Yay! I’ve got a great mixture of eye, lip and face products, so let’s get stuck in…

ofra-blush-review

ofra-blush-review-swatches

First up is the Ofra Blush Illuminating Stripes ($29.95)

These unique blushes are made with high-grade pearls and pigments pressed using sophisticated technology exclusive to OFRA Cosmetic Laboratories. Once applied, Blush Stripes highlight your cheek bones in any light giving every face the illusion of ever-increasingly popular high cheekbones (think Kim Kardashian) while also providing the natural, pink glow every woman desires and expects from a quality blush. These product can double-duty as a four-colored eye shadow powder as well, making the Blush Stripes an economic cosmetic option that feels like a splurge.

Good points – I love these shades individually! The highlight is fab and you only need a tiny bit for your whole face. The blush shades are also super pretty used sparingly.

Not so good points – I tried applying the stripes in one swoop – using a wide brush I made sure I picked up each of the colours and stroked it on, making sure the highlight was on top of my check bone and the bronzer underneath. This did not work! Firstly the four stripes next to each other were too wide for my face so they didn’t sit right, and secondly the shades were way more pigmented and shimmery than I expected, even after blending in I still looked like a shimmery clown. But I still think this is a great product used sparingly.

eddie-funkhouser-light-concealer

eddie-funkhouser-liquid-concealer-review

Next is the Eddie Funkhouser 16h 4-way Liquid Concealer in Light ($10.99)

The 4-way Liquid Concealer is a dynamic multi-tasker formula designed to: 1. Neutralize redness, 2. Correct dark circles, 3. Brighten and conceal 4. Soften the appearance of fine lines.

Good points – I have serious dark circles and under eye bags so I really had high hopes for this product. And I have to say I was rather pleasantly surprised! It looks like a pretty standard liquid concealer, but after it’s dried it leaves a lovely matte finish that DOESNT CRACK. This is really important to my as most concealers crack into the fine lines under my eyes. This one does not.

Not so good points – My only complaint is this is not quite a pigmented as I’d like. I do have super dark bags though, so if you’re looking for an under eye concealer for ‘normal’ under eyes, this could be perfect for you!

tarina-tarantino-glitter-liner

tarina-tarantino-glitter-liner-review

Next is the Tarina Tarantino Eyelicity Glitter Liner in Black Diamond ($16.00)

This Eyelicity Glitter Liner is a micro-glitter liner saturated with a burst of pigmented color that gives you lustrous sparkling eyes on days you want to be a little glamorous! This amazing formula is long-lasting and quick-drying once set! It is also smudge resistant and will keep the gorgeous glitter on your eyes and not your cheeks!

Good points – I love the fine glitter in this liner, it really caught the light and looked great over my normal black eyeliner.

Not so good points – The liquid formula was quite sheer – you can see on the above image that it’s quite see through. I wouldn’t wear this eyeliner alone as it just doesn’t have the depth of colour I’d like.

mud-magnolia-lip-glaze-review

mud-magnolia-lip-glaze-swatches

Next is the MUD Magnolia Lip Glaze ($12.50)

Light, emollient Lip Glazes deliver a burst of sheer, glossy color that’s smooth and never sticky. Stash the squeezable tube in a handbag for a quick sweep of color on the go, or use a brush for more precise application.

Good points – This gloss is a pretty, wearable colour. The formula is non sticky and comfortable to wear.

Not so good points – I’m sorry but I really don’t like the packaging of this product. To me it looks and feels cheap. I’m just not a fan of this style of gloss applicator!

chella-ligh-brown-eyebrow-pencil

chella-ligh-brown-eyebrow-pencil-review

And lastly the Chella Luscious Light Brown Eyebrow Color ($18.00)

The fine tip on this sleek European-designed mechanical pencil has a creamy consistency that glides into place and can also be lightly smudged for a more natural look (use the brush/comb attachment on Chella’s Razor, sold separately, to achieve this effect).

Good points – This pencil has a super fine tip that’s perfect for drawing on tiny brow hairs that look natural. The product formula is quite dense, helping create a sharp line, but can also easily be smudged.

Not so good points – None!

So there we have it! Overall I think I’ve got a great little bundle of products here! This box of goodies came to $87.44 (£54.35) which is also a complete bargain! Wantable also now offer a fitness box, you can check out their site here.

Pink Parcel Subscription Box | Review

Posted on September 18, 2014

pink-parcel-review

Hi Guys!

Having been put off subscription boxes a while back, I’ve recently been pleasantly been surprised by a couple of new kids on the block, one of them being Pink Parcel. If you haven’t heard of Pink Parcel they offer you a stash of your preferred sanitary product, be it tampons or towels (you choose) and surprise beauty treats in a handy monthly subscription. Your first box is £5.95 and further boxes are £9.95 with delivery included.

pink-parcel-subscription-review

When the box arrived, it was larger than I was expecting. I guess this is because I’m used to the standard subscription box sizes. The outer box is dark grey with the Pink Parcel logo, it appears of good quality, and on opening, it was split into three sections – For Now, For Later and For You, with each section having its own individual packaging. I love the presentation, it wasn’t at all what I was expecting, and felt like I was about to open a lovely gift!

pink-parcel-for-now-pouch

The For Now pouch, included five tampons. I’m guessing this is so you can just throw it in your bag and be on your way – super handy!

pink-parcel-for-later-boxes

The For Later section held two flat boxes with ten tampons in each.

pink-parcel-for-you-box

And lastly For You – this was favourite box. Described as ‘A little something to cheer you up’. Inside there were a few lovely treats –

  • Teapigs Caffiene Free Super Fruit single tea bag
  • Doisy & Dam 40g chocolate bar
  • Witch Anti Blemish Redness Relief Moisturiser 30ml (rrp £6.79)
  • Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Maximum Volume Mascara in Black 01 (rrp £13.00)
  • Garnier 5 Sec Perfect Blur Primer 30ml (rep £9.99)
  • Voucher for a free glass of wine with a purchased meal at Cafe Rouge

pink-parcel-for-you-box-contents

Roughly, the value of the box is just over £30 – on the basis that the tampons cost a couple of pounds. I think this is a fantastic deal for under a tenner a month – with shipping included! Obviously everyone is different, 25 tampons might be perfect for some, too little for others or to many. Pink Parcel say on their FAQ page if 25 is too little then please let them know, so I’m assuming they can be flexible with numbers which is nice.

Overall I’m really impressed with this box, from the packaging, to the thought process behind each of the sections, this is well thought out as well as being good value for money.

What do you think? Will you be signing up to Pink Parcel?? xxx

LimeBox Haircare Subscription Box Review

Posted on March 5, 2014

Hi Guys!

Did you know there’s a new subscription box in town? The Limetree Hair Clinic now offer a haircare monthly subscription box, and as far as I know, this is the first hair-specific box on the market!

The Limetree Hair Clinic’s Limebox is available as a one off box for £20 + p&p, or you can choose a three month, six month or year subscription. The longer subs also offer savings of up to £20 for a year.

lime box

So what is it?

‘How about a handpicked selection of luxury professional only products that will not only be delivered straight to your door every month as a little gift to yourself, but keep you bang on trend with the very best picks each month from our expert team? As if that wasn’t enough each box that arrives to you is hand wrapped meticulously and will have a heavily discounted value on the original retail prices. To make things even easier for you, you can sign up to subscribe for varying plans so that once your one off payment has been received, you can sit back and relax and wait for your luxury treat to arrive each month.’

‘The Limebox will never contain only sample sizes of products, you will receive full size retail sizes along with perhaps miniature sizes (look out for holiday edition boxes). Any sample sizes you may receive will be in addition to the full size products you receive and won’t count towards the total value of the box. We are currently the only website in the UK to bring you an at home luxury experience in a box exclusively for your hair and we are proud to pioneer this new trend for shopping.’

lime box review

My Limebox arrived and the first thing that surprised me was how heavy it was, then I remembered, these are full sized products! The outer box is made of white cardboard, and inside there was a bright green tissue paper package. On opening this there was a Limebox card, printed product information and a mass of bright green shredded paper to protect the products underneath.

hair subscription box

So what was in the box? I was really happy to find three full-sized products, all from high end brands

TIGI Pro Reconstructing Shampoo (£11.50) & TIGI Pro Reconstructing Conditioner (£12.50) These products are for weak and damaged hair (check and check) with the aim that they repair the hair from the inside out. So these are right up my street! They smell amazing and leave my hair soft and feeling healthy.

Moroccan Oil Glimmer Shine (£9.65) ‘Glimmer Shine is a finishing spray that attracts and reflects light to give hair a gorgeous gloss. Infused with argan oil, vitamins and antioxidants, it creates an invisible veil of pure luminous shine.’ When I saw a Morocca Oil product in the box I was very happy, I already use their Treatment and  love it! This spray is just as good, it leaves my hair silky and skinny and smells gorgeous too!

hair sub box

Overall I was really happy with my box, the only improvement I can think of is that it would be great if the boxes were customisable to be specific to your hair type, other than that, Over £30 of high end, full size hair care products for £20 gets a big thumbs up from me!
