Tom Ford Black Orchid vs Tom Ford Velvet Orchid | Comparison

Posted on August 13, 2014

Ahh Tom Ford, what a guy!

Tom Ford is the creator of many, many beautiful things. Couture fashion, check. Shoes, check. Handbags, check. Jewellery, check. Beauty, check. The list goes on, and this man really knows his stuff. My particular favourites of his being fragrance and beauty (I can’t comment on the makeup yet as I don’t actually own any, but it’s on my to buy list… and I do have my eye on a Natalia bag, but I think I’m going to have to wait till I win the lottery to buy that one) I can confirm however, his perfumes are definitely something of magic and mystery. They are literally like nothing I’ve ever smelled before. My long term favourite Tom Ford fragrance for many years has been Black Orchid, which has only recently been topped by Jasmin Rouge. Ever since I first tried a sample of Black Orchid in a magazine way back in 2006 I was hooked. It’s intense, sensuous, seductive and glamorous – everything I am… obviously! 😉

I’ve only recently heard that Mr Ford has launched a new signature scent, Velvet Orchid, as a sister to Black Orchid. I went ahead and got my hands on a large bottle without sampling it first and without hesitation. I knew I had to have it, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Velvet Orchid is similar to Black Orchid, but definitely not the same. There is no question that both scents are from the same family, but Velvet Orchid is lighter somehow, and more feminine…

Velvet Orchid lives in a world of glamorous mystique, evolving the carnal grandeur and seductive power of Tom Ford’s original Black Orchid into a harmonious and uber-feminine fragrance. Lavished with cool freshness, dramatic petals, honey and rum, Tom Ford Velvet Orchid is an oriental floral fragrance that teases and caresses with enveloping and brilliant warmth.

Top Notes – Italian bergamot , Mandarin, Rum succan absolute, Honey

Middle Notes – Jasmine, Turkish rose, Cattleva leopoldii orchid, Black orchid, Orange blossom, Moroccan rose,Heliotropin, Magnolia, Jonquil, Hyacinth

Base Notes – Labdanum, Sandalwood, Peru balsam, Myrrh, Suede, Comoro island vanilla

Where Black Orchid is intense, dark and dramatic, Velvet Orchid is pretty, feminine and fresh. I think I’m in love 🙂

I’d love to hear which fragrances you’re loving at the moment? xx

Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge Eau De Parfum

Hey Guys!

As you may know or may not know, my absolute favourite perfume ever is Black Orchid by Tom Ford, I’ve been wearing it for a few years now and I’ve found plenty of scents I love, but none quite as much. I recently visited the new Tom Ford counter in Jarrolds Norwich and had a chance to try out Tom Ford’s Private Blend Collection.

tom ford jasmin rouge I’ve never had a chance to sample the Private Blends before, as they are only available online or at Tom Ford counters, and my nearest counter was previously in London which is way quite a way to go just to try a perfume! So I was so excited when the new Tom Ford counter recently opened in Jarrolds Norwich! If you’re not familiar with Private Blends, they are a unique collection of scents, I’d definitely describe them as ‘marmite’ perfumes; you’ll either love them or hate them. Some can seem quite strong and over powering, some seem quite odd, and have unusual notes and are definitely an aquired taste. Others though, are simply fabulous 🙂

tom ford perfume Tom Ford has gradually added to the original collection of 12 Private Blends, and after trying out all the scents, surprisingly I wasn’t actually that keen on most of them, but I completely fell in love with Jasmin Rouge which was added to the collection in 2011 along with the launch of Tom Ford makeup. The sales assistant described it as ‘Jessica Rabbit in a bottle’ and it really is!

Described as ‘Voluptuous. Sensuous. Audacious. Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge is a voluptuous, saturated, spiced floral. An unexpected blend of precious sambac jasmine sepals absolute, an ingredient never used before in perfumery with dusky clary sage and rich spices, it unveils a new facet of jasmine’s erotic decadence. Jasmin Rouge is as audacious as lacquered red lips. Its deep red bottle evokes lush and hedonistic glamour.’

How amazing does that sound!?

I am completely in love with this, and I’ve started wearing it every day, oops! It’s pretty expensive so I really should save it for special occasions only!! Have you tried Tom Ford’s Private Blends?

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
