I’m Starting The #SlimFastChallenge!

Posted on January 4, 2016

Hi Guys!

Christmas had been and gone, as has the New Year now, and all we have left to show for it is decorations that need putting away, houses to clean and tidy, and, if you’re like me and you’ve rather over indulged across the festive period, you’re probably feeling bloated, heavy and just a bit gross too. So what better time to get on the wagon and start a proper health kick?

I’ve used SlimFast before, and I really get on with their plan and products, so I’m really excited (and SO ready right now) to get back on it and shift some pounds again! Conveniently for me, SlimFast have also launched a brand new new and free app (available on iOS or Android) which has all the tools, support and motivation you need in one place to aid you on your slimming journey.

I’ve recently downloaded it, and I’m really impressed so far! Once you’ve signed in to the app, it asks for your vital stats (height and weight) and from there you can choose your goals, wether it’s specifically weight loss, to increase fitness or anything else, this app has you covered. One of my favourite parts of the app is the Transformation GIF, allowing you to see the physical difference in your appearance as you lose weight, how awesome is that? I can’t wait to give it a try as I lose weight! You also have access to daily tips and advice, meal plans and meal ideas, and an exclusive, easy exercise programme.

So as of today, I’ve now started healthy eating, and I’ve cut out the junk, and later on this month I’ll also be taking part in the #SlimFastChallenge with some other lovely bloggers. So keep an eye out for Tweets with the #SlimFastChallenge hashtag and blog posts on my progress which will be coming up in the near future!

And lastly, if SlimFast sounds like it could be for you, or maybe you’re not sure and you’d like to find out more, make a note in your diary for Thursday 7th January at 3:30pm, where the one and only Kimberley Walsh from Girls Aloud (who just happens to be a SlimFast ambassador) will be heading up a Twitter chat, where you can ask any questions you may have, join in and chat with others (including me) and you could also win SlimFast a 7 day Starter Kit!

Why not download the app now and join me in the #SlimFastChallenge? WE CAN DO THIS!! xxx

The Slim Fast Blogger Challenge

Posted on June 8, 2015

Hi Guys!

Ok so I’ve been on the wagon and off the wagon of late when it comes to my diet. Sometimes I’ve been really good, and others, well not so much. I started off really well then my anxiety flared up again, and apart from making my life difficult, it always seems to make me quite emotional and the urge to eat my worries away stronger than ever. In the last week or so I’ve started to feel so much better though, and while I’m in this positive mental zone I’m going to make the most of it and start the blogger #SlimFastChallenge!

The challenge is a 14-day trial of Slim Fast products following their 3.2.1 Plan – which includes meal replacement bars, convenient ready-to-drink shakes, meal replacement powders (so you can get creative with flavours at home) and plenty of snacks. So basically with the 3-2-1 plan you can enjoy three snacks, two meal replacement products and one balanced (600cal) meal a day, with the aim that you will gradually lose weight. Slim Fast also have lots of tasty recipes on their site to try out, to give you inspiration for your third meal of the day.

I love the fact that you can eat up to six times a day with this plan! And the Heavenly Chocolate Delight Snack Bars look amazing! Slim Fast give you the option to Create your own plan by picking the flavours you love or download their 7 day diet plan where you’ll find a week’s worth of meals and snacks planned out for you.

It’s so simple to follow, there’s no points system or calorie counting with these products – which really appeals to me. The idea is once you reach your goal weight, you can replace one meal with a meal replacement product (instead of two) to help maintain your new weight.

I’ve just started today having a shake for breakfast and lunch, and a banana for a snack and I’m feeling good! I half expected to be hungry but I’m not at all! Fingers crossed the 3.2.1 plan will work for me and help me shift some weight! Keep your eye out for my update post in a couple of weeks’ time! xxx

A Diet Update and Exante Diet Products

Posted on May 7, 2015

Hi Guys!

Following on from my original How I Plan To Lose 5 Stones post, I thought I’d come back with a little update on how I’ve been getting on. I can tell you it’s been a rocky start! I began really well, exercising for half an hour almost every day, eating well and completely cutting out any unhealthy snacks. The food consumption side of things was difficult to begin with, I’d been used to big portions as well as grazing throughout the day, so cutting right down left me feeling pretty hungry! After a few days though I think my stomach must have started to shrink a bit because I started to feel less hungry, I also incorporated some Exante Diet products into my regime too which I think helped, and after just over a week I’d lost 4 pounds! I was so pleased!

I loved Exante’s products because they’re so quick and easy and fuss free. I’m not one for making complicated meals anyway, and with my job, blog, son, husband and house to look after, I’m busy most of the time so it’s handy to be able to just grab something when you’re on the go! Exante sent me a selection of their products to try out, including meal-replacement shakes, diet meals and snack bars and I think I loved the shakes the most. They were super handy for me to have for lunch on days when I went to work because you just add water to the powder and mix to create a shake drink. The flavours were really nice and surprisingly filling! The diet meals, I must admit didn’t initially look that appetising (see the Pasta Carbonara packet in my first image) In fact though, I was surprised with how good they tasted! The Pasta Carbonara was lovely – again you just add water like the shakes, but you also put these in the microwave. I borrowed the above image from Exante’s site as my crockery didn’t do the meal justice! All of Exante’s products contain 100% of your daily requirements for vitamins, minerals and protein each day, no artificial colours, aspartame, monosodium glutamate, or genetically modified products, and they’re also suitable for vegetarians.

I love that Exante Diet products are flexible enough to fit into your routine however you need them to. I’ve been using them as meal replacements here and there, and their snack bars are really handy to have around if you’re craving something sweet. You can also use them as part of the 5:2 diet or just as an addition to a healthy lifestyle.

Ok so back to my progress. Basically I lost 4 pounds, I was really happy, but then somehow I put it back on. I have no idea how, I was being really good! And I was SO annoyed. I’m thinking possible water retention? I’ve then lost 2 pounds again but it’s also TOTM, so I’m thinking definite water retention right now. I’m still feeling positive though, it’s still an over all loss even if it’s only small!

I’ll have another update for you in the next couple of weeks, I’m aiming to lose another 4 pounds by then so wish me luck! I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

How I Plan To Lose 5 Stones

Posted on April 29, 2015

Hi Guys,

Ok so I feel like I’ve come to a bit of a turning point in my life. I’ve been stuck in a rut for a long time now, suffering on and off with anxiety, and eating my worries away. This negative cycle has caused me to put on five stones in about a year and a half. Yes FIVE stones – half a person. I’m carrying around an extra half person on my body every day. No wonder I’m always tired.

Basically I’m an emotional eater. I eat when I’m down, or stressed or upset. I’ve been using food as a crutch, and even though the instant gratification felt worth it, the long term effects have really taken their toll on my health and well being. I constantly feel sluggish, my get up and go has got up and gone, and my weight gain has severely affected my confidence. I feel like I’ve turned into a different person.

The main reason for all of this was my job. Without going into detail I basically hadn’t been happy there for a long time. So not so long ago I decided enough was enough, and handed in my resignation. It was super scary but I’m so glad I did it. Funnily enough I was then offerered a different job at the same company, doing a completely different role, as well as working less hours. I felt a mixture of relief, happiness, and excitement, now I can really get stuck in with my new job! This also gave me more time to focus on myself in terms of my health and fitness, as well as my blog and my other freelance roles.

I guess I kind of feel like a weight has been lifted, I’m now in a much more positive frame of mind, and I’m ready to lose this weight! Here’s how I plan to do it –

1. Drink more water. This was actually a new years resolution and I’ve been pretty slack with it. I drink a lot of tea, which I don’t think I can live without, and I know it’s dehydrating which completely defeats the purpose. So moving forward I’m just going to have a glass of water with every cup of tea I make. Simples!

2. Cut out the junk. I’ve been in SUCH bad eating habits. Hence why I put so much weight on. I’m a grazer, and I literaly snack all day out of habit. I’d buy a multi pack of doughnuts / chocolate bars / cakes with the idea that I’d have one now and again for a treat, but I’d just scoff them all in one go. I’ve now completely cut this out and I’m going cold turkey. No treats, no snacks, nothing bad at all. And I’m feeling GOOD about it!!

3. Eat healthier. Apart from cutting out the obvious junk, I want to actively eat healthier meals that will help me to feel good and lose weight. I’m going for high protein / low carbs in general, and lots of veg and greens. I’m trying out some products from Exante at the moment, so for example I’m swapping my lunch for an Exante meal or shake, and swapping out my sweet snacks for their high protein options or fruit. I also have a few bits from My Protein to try out too – I’ll have an update with how I’m getting on with these shortly.

4. Exercise. Ahh exercise. This has also been my downfall. I just wasn’t doing any – unless walking to the loo counts?? I’m now using my Wii Fit to do stepping, hardcore super fast stepping! I’m doing half an hour a day at the moment, then when I’m used to it and not so knackered I’ll make the step higher (the other half has pimped my step for me!) and eventually add wrist and ankle weights too.

(I should point out that I’ve actually done all this once before. When I was pregnant I put on 4.5 stones and I lost it all the year after, so I know I can do it again!)

5. Monitoring my progress. As well as the Wii Fit, I also recently purchased a FitBit Charge which is fantastic for keeping track of how much exercise you’re doing, it tracks your steps, your sleep patterns, your heart rate, and you can also manually input your food intake so it can count your calories. I’m really finding this is helping me too, so I’ll have a separate post on it shorty.

Ideally I’d like to lose the weight by the end of the year, but for a smaller goal I’m aiming to lose 1 stone by my birthday which is 12th June. I think this is achievable! Wish me luck xxx

Juicetou Three Day Detox!

Posted on August 30, 2014

Hi Guys!

I was recently contacted by Juicetou to try out their three day detox, which sounded perfect to me as I desperately needed and wanted to diet to loose some weight, but I really struggle to get motivated. I thought a juice detox sounded like it could be the perfect kickstart to my diet! (Apologies for the picture too, I forgot to photograph the bottles before I started so I had to use the empty bottles instead, oops!)

The Juicetou detox is pretty hardcore – basically you only drink four juices a day, plus lots of water, for three days. There’s NO FOOD ALLOWED. At all. The juices are all fresh, natural, and free from additives, so the idea is your body will be thoroughly cleansed by the end of the detox. The juices themselves all taste fine, they’re not amazing but they’re not disgusting by any means, they literally have mashed up fruit, veg and berries in them with no sugars to sweeten them up at all. So you know they’re 100% good for you!

This is the schedule for when you need to drink each of the juices –

  • 9am Clean Green Juice – with spinach, cucumber, celery, apples and limes.
  • 12 noon Let’s Glow Juice – with oranges, apples, kiwis, grapes and strawberries.
  • 3pm Clean Green Juice – with spinach, cucumber, celery, apples and limes.
  • 6pm Berry Good Juice – with pineapple, blueberries, strawberries, apples and raspberries.

I decided to put together a mini diary so you can see how I got on…

Day 1. I get up and make myself a decaf tea with one sweetener, drink half of it before I realise I might not actually be allowed ‘normal’ tea! Oops! Tweet Juicetou to check and they recommend only having fruit or peppermint teas when detoxing, bugger. I think I may miss tea more than food over the three days! First up is the green juice at 9am, it kind of smells like celery and doesn’t taste too bad. The second juice again was ok, this was the fruity one, the third is the green one again and the last at 6pm is the berry one, which is definitely the nicest tasting! I actually had a night out planned tonight, going for a meal then cinema with friends. I sat there watching everyone eating their succulent burgers while I treated myself to a cup of tea. This is willpower. Technically I know I’m not allowed tea, but at the end of the day I’m not eating anything for three days so I decided to allow myself one!

Day 2. I woke up feeling tired, partly because of the lack of food I think and and partly because I was up in the night with Fred. I didn’t do any physical activity today but definitely felt achey and physically tired. I had a couple more ‘naughty’ cups of tea today but no food! Still staying strong!!

Day 3. Ok I did cave in today and have a couple of cups of tea, again. I know I shouldn’t have but I still didn’t eat anything so a couple of teas isn’t that bad really? Also, you’re not meant to do any exercise whilst detoxing, as you won’t have much energy at all, but I ended up doing loads of walking today. I had a dentist appointment in Norwich which took about three quarters of an hour to walk there, then I met a friend and walked around the city, then I walked back to the train station. I WAS KNACKERED. I was desperate to eat something but wanted to wait till I got home to weigh myself first! So I didnt end up eating till half 8 – and it was a salad I might add! (Seriously it was the best salad ever, after three days without food it was amazing!) And when I finally weighed myself I was really pleased to find out I’d lost four pounds 😀

I really feel like this detox has been the kick start my diet needed, and I’m going to try my best to keep up with the healthy eating now! I made a point of drinking lots of water, and hot water with a slice of lemon in is actually quite nice! Now I’ve finished I feel inspired by my weight loss and that I’m on the right track with eating healthily. I’ve been to the supermarket and stocked up on salad bits so I’m raring to go! Let’s hope I can keep up the good work and throw some exercise into the mix too!

So what do you think? Have or would you try the Juicetou detox? xxx

Weight Loss Wednesday 15/01

Posted on January 15, 2014

Hi Guys!

So here is my weekly Weight Loss Wednesday update. As of last Sunday evening I was officially 11 stone 3 pounds, meaning I’d put on 1 stone 10 pounds since my wedding which was mid September, OOOPS!!! I weighed myself on Sunday just gone (one week later) and I’m really not surprised that I’ve put on another pound. I knew I hadn’t done very well at all this week, my will power seemed to go out the window around Thursday and I ate some very bad things from then onwards 🙁

I’ve dieted before, and I know when I get ‘in the zone’ I can be strict and be really successful. But at the moment I’m not really sure what’s happened, I guess I’m not really feeling it unfortunately. I need to get myself into the right frame of mind to do this, and I’m just not there yet.

I had planned today, to tell you all about my diet, what I was and wasn’t eating, and about my exercise plan. I can’t really do that now as it’s all gone a bit wrong! I will though, tell you my plan going forward. So here goes –

It’s very simple. I think to start with, I’m just going to try and be more relaxed about the whole thing and try to make better choices with what I eat, rather than go on a ‘diet’ and stress myself out about it! Watch this space!

revive On the plus side, this week I’ve been trialling Revive Active, this is a food supplement (a sachet of powder) that you add to juice every day. Revive Active is a new brand to the UK – a unique anti-aging and health and beauty supplement which has been clinically proven to boost cardiovascular health, increase energy levels and support the immune system. Revive Active claims health benefits including;

  • Coenzyme Q10 working with L-Carnitine supports the metabolism of fats and proteins and aids the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) for increased energy levels
  • Vitamin E, Vitamin C and selenium are antioxidants and important aids to slowing the aging and hardening of tissues through oxidation
  • Vitamin K2 is required for optimal Vitamin D3 absorption both of which promote bone density crucial in preventing osteoporosis
  • L-Citrulline and L-Arginine combine to help your body create Nitric Oxide which acts as a signalling molecule in the cardiovascular system and is important for healthy blood flow
  • B-Complex vitamins are involved in a huge amount of processes in your body from nervous system function to the production of red blood cells and are most efficient when taken together

Revive Active contains over 26 carefully selected ingredients to create a potent and unique combination working in synergy, to boost cardiovascular health, increase energy levels and support the immune system.

It is endorsed by leading medical professionals, nutritionists and naturopaths, including leading celebrity Nutritionist Vicky Edgson.  With over 15 years’ experience running private nutritional therapy clinics in London and the author of several well-respected books on best-practice nutrition, Vicki Edgson has been working with Revive Active almost since its inception and is a self-professed supporter of the product, often recommending it to her patients.

She explains: “As a busy nutritional therapist with several practices in London, I have found the Revive Active Health Food Supplement to have superb results for those suffering from burn-out and fatigue, lowered energy production at a cellular level, and those who are sports enthusiasts. This has rapidly become one of my preferred health food supplements for a broad range of conditions.”

Ok so what did I think?

Well to start with I made the mistake of forgetting to buy juice, I thought this isn’t a problem I’ll just drink it with water. Bad idea! This stuff tastes terrible just in water, if you want to try it definitely make sure you add it to juice!

I had a weeks’ trial and can’t say I actually noticed any difference for taking it I’m afraid. I have no doubt that it has a lot of beneficial ingredients and has done me some good, but I can’t say I physically felt any different. I’d love to hear if you’ve tried this and if you felt a difference?

Fingers crossed I’ll have better luck with my diet this week! xxx

Weight Loss Wednesday

Posted on January 8, 2014

Hi Guys!

So today is officially the start of Weight Loss Wednesday!

I’ve decided enough is enough, I’ve put on A LOT of weight over the last few months and I really need to start doing something about it, so I’ve joined up with Weight Loss Wednesday! If you want to find out more about the group and join in yourself, you can check out the details here. I’ll be joining in the Twitter chat too which is on Thursdays at 8pm, with hashtag #bloggersWLW. I hope to see you there!!

weight loss wednesday

I’ve just started my diet on Monday, and my aim is to post every Wednesday with updates, inspiration and any other diet and exercise related stuff that’s going on with me at the time. Hopefully by reading everybody elses posts, and by joining in the Twitter chat, we will help motivate each other to achieve our goals. So, in the last few months I’ve put on a LOT of weight, I know I’ve put this weight on due to depression and comfort eating – I’m not like ‘OMG how on earth did I put so much weight on!?’ I’m completely aware I’ve been eating absolutely everything I could get my grubby little mitts on. The start of the new year has inspired me and I now finally feel like I’m ready to do something about it! 🙂

So my plan is actually quite a simple one. I’m eating healthily, I’ve completely cut out the junk which I’ve been gorging on over the last few months, and I’ll be doing light exercise for half an hour every day after the first week – I’m leaving it a week as I think I need to get used to the change of diet before jumping into exercise that I’m not used to. Easy, right??? My aim is to lose 2 stones which I hope to do by my birthday (my 30th birthday!) which is mid June. This may be a bit optimistic but I’ll see how it goes! I’ll explain in more detail about my diet and exercise plan over the coming weeks.

I’ll be taking my measurements – bust, waist and hips, and my weight once a week and I’ll be reporting the results here on Wednesdays. I’ve also started a one week detox this week using Revive Active – ‘a unique anti-aging and health and beauty supplement which has been clinically proven to boost cardiovascular health, increase energy levels and support the immune system.’ It’s basically a powder you add to orange juice every morning, You can read more about it here and I’ll report back on it next week!

Jennifer has asked us to include our inspirations, which I think is a really good idea. I only have two at the moment, one being ‘Not Giving In’ by Rudimental, I listen to it every day 🙂

And the other being Skopljak – this girl has legs to die for!! Follow her on Instagram at http://instagram.com/skopljak

Right that’s enough waffling for now, so onwards and upwards hey! Good luck everyone!! xxx
