Beauty News & Gossip 14/08/16: Colourpop, Pat McGrath, Kat Von D & More!

Posted on August 14, 2016

Hi Guys!

It’s time again for the latest beauty news and gossip! Let’s take a look at what’s been happening in the land of beauty lately –

Kylie Jenner has recently launched her birthday collection of products, which come in rather fancy re-vamped gold packaging – and of course everything sold out in about 3 seconds. Personally, the sheer effort it takes to actually purchase something from Kylie Cosmetics really puts me off the brand, but I’d be interested to hear if any readers actually managed to pick anything up from the birthday collection, and if the products are any good?

Next, I’ve just checked up on the the Too Faced x Nikkie Tutorials collaboration kit and it will be available at Sephora tomorrow! I must admit, I originally wasn’t overly excited about the palette in the set, but now I’ve seen the swatches I think it looks really pretty!

Too Faced are also launching a Sweet Peach Glow palette for Spring 2017 – I actually originally thought this was another eyeshadow palette in the Peach range, but nope, it’s a highlighter palette! I can’t wait to see what the shades will look like! I’m thinking warm peaches and pink tones – exciting!

Beauty fans will know that Kailijumei lipsticks are one of the latest hot products right now – these amazingly pretty clear lipsticks change colour on application, and also have a flower actually embedded inside the lipstick bullet!

I couldn’t resist nabbing a couple of these myself! My parcel is currently winging its way to me from Kuala Lumpur –  so keep an eye out for them on the blog in (hopefully) the next few weeks.

Sugarpill is one of those brands I often overlook, though I do have a couple of their quad eyeshadow palettes from a few years ago. If you haven’t tried them before, Sugarpill eyeshadows are actually fantastic, and have the most amazing pigmentation. Their Pro Palette is definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for bright eyeshadows with fantastic colour payoff.

I also saw some swatches of the new Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip products, and they just look so gorgeous and summery! I’m trying to resist but think I need them! 🙂

I also came across this Masquerade Palette by Juvias Place which just looks amazing! Definitely another one for the wish list. There are so many amazing ‘Instagram’ beauty brands popping up now – if you know of any more I should check out please do let me know!

We also now have details on the new Pat McGrath products! She’s bringing out three new lip product kits – Vermillion Venom, Bloodwine and Flesh, with each comprising of five products: including two matte lipsticks, a clear gloss, a metallic pigment and a loose glitter. I have to say the colours in these kits look AMAZING – and I really want all of them! They’re $60 per kit and will be available on 30/08.

And how could I do a Beauty News & Gossip post without including Jeffree Star? 🙂 Well he has a few new skin frost highlight shades that I wanted to mention. I’m actually really liking the look of Lavender Snow!

And lastly, Toofaced’s collaboration with Kat Von D is finally happening! This was hinted at a while ago, and I couldn’t wait to find out what they were up to! The Better Together collaboration includes an awesome looking double sided heart shaped palette, which can actually be split in two, as well as some other fab sounding products. Make sure you check out Trendmood1 on Instagran for some more sneak peeks!

Sugarpill Palette and Loose Eyeshadow Pigment Review and Swatches!

Sugarpill are a US based niche makeup company offering a cruelty-free line of vibrant, richly pigmented cosmetics. At the moment they specialise in eye makeup only. I hope one day will start selling lipsticks and glosses too!

I love bright colours so as soon as I saw these Sugarpill palettes I had to get them, I’ve never before seen eyeshadows in such bright vibrant colours. I have to say, they really do live up to the hype!

This is the outer packaging: The palette comes in a box with a cute design on it, and the palette itself has a black satiny finish with the Sugarpill logo, it feels sturdy, quite heavy and of good quality.

When you open the palette there is a good sized mirror on the inside which is always a plus, I hate when you get a palette without a mirror. There are no brushes included, which I think is a good thing, it’s always disappointing when you buy a good quality palette to find they have included naff sponge ended applicators! The eyeshadow pans are also generously sized, about 3cm across which is a great useable size.

I have the Sweetheart and Burning Heart palettes. The colours are for Sweetheart: Dollipop (matte pink), Afterparty (metallic blue), Midori (metalic green) and Taco (matte white), and for Burning heart: Flamepoint (matte orange), Buttercupcake (matte yellow), Love+ (slight metallic red) and Poison Plum (slight metallic purple).

I used my fingers to take some swatches on the back of my hand, but I seem to have lost the photos somehow! So I just have the photos of the swatches on my finger tips! The finger tip photos actually really give you an idea of the true colour of the shadows. You can really see how richly pigmented the colours are. The colours are easy to blend and you can easily add layers to build up the depth colour. I can’t find any fault with these shadows!

Here are the loose eyeshadows I have: Goldilux, (Brilliant, highly-reflective metallic gold with breathtaking shine, the brightest gold you’ve ever seen) Magpie (Dramatic silky black with metallic blue sheen and turquoise sparkles) Junebug (Luxurious forest green with a burst of diamonds) Lumi (Snow white with turquoise sheen and flashing bursts of blue and green.) The loose pigments all have a metallic finish, they are also very finely milled which means they are a joy to apply and easily manipulated.

I absolutely love Goldilux, it really is the brightest gold! And Lumi is another favourite, it gives a sheer turquoise sparkle, similar to MAC’s Reflects Transparent Teal. You can use this on its own to give a sheer veil of metallic sparkle, or over another shadow to create your own look.

More loose eyeshadows: Starling (Vibrant, metallic turquoise with intense sheen.) Darling (Stunning teal loaded with iridescent turquoise star bursts.) Royal Sugar (Striking bright blue with a heavenly burst of turquoise diamonds.)

I have some photos of a look I did with the loose eyeshadows but the pictures came out very dark and you really can’t see very well unfortunately. So I’ve found a picture from Halloween when I originally bought the palettes, I used Dollipop and Taco from the Sweetheart palette, spooky hey!
