YSL Black Opium EDP | Review

Posted on October 13, 2014

Hi Guys!

As soon as I heard YSL had released Black Opium on some of the bigger beauty blogs, I was so excited. I must admit I was mesmerised by the bottle before I’d even heard what the fragrance was about – and I’ve never even tried the original Opium. I get a bit silly over perfumes like that! Black Opium has had rave reviews everywhere I’ve looked and as I’m a complete perfume addict I knew I had to try it!

Ok so lets start with the bottle, it’s basically the same as the original Opium, but Black Opium has been totally revamped and glitzed up. The bottle is the same shape and style as Opium, but this time it’s black, it’s sparkly and it’s sexy. Unfortunately like I said Ive never actually tried the original opium fragrance, so I can’t compare the the scents to one another, but if the bottle is anything to go by, the new Black Opium will be a sharper, more glamorous version of the original.

Black Opium has top notes of pink pepper and orange blossom, mid notes of jasmine and coffee, and base notes of vanilla, patchouli and cedarwood. It’s a gorgeously seductive fragrance, that’s surprisingly wearable. It’s not too heavy for day time, but lingers all day – my other half noticed I had it on in the evening when I’d only put it on first thing in the morning! I’ve been wearing it every day since my bottle arrived and I’ve had so many compliments!

2014’s Most Anticipated New Fragrance Discover Black Opium, the new feminine fragrance by Yves Saint Laurent – new glam rock fragrance full of mystery and energy. An addictive gourmand floral with notes of: Black Coffee – for a shot of adrenaline; White Florals – to instantly seduce; and Vanilla – for sweetness and sensuality.

Black Opium is available from Beauty Base for £44 for a 30ml bottle.

So what do you think? I’d love to hear if you’ve tried this fragrance?

I hope you enjoyed my review xx

The Fragrance Lab at Selfridges | Experience

selfridges fragrance lab experience

Hi Guys!

You may have seen my post about my amazing day out in London, if you read it you can probably tell a big part of our day was spent in Selfridges. I’d never been before so I was super excited! Our London trip also happened to coincide with the start of Selfridges Beauty Project (I didn’t plan that, honest!!) If you haven’t heard of The Beauty Project, it’s a six week project of pioneering talks, interactive debates, and immersive beauty experiences to challenge peoples perception of beauty. One of the experiences on offer was the Selfridges Fragrance Lab.

hello beautiful selfridges

The idea of the Fragrance Lab is to match your personality to your perfect perfume! I thought I’d treat myself to this experience as a pre-birthday present!

When I arrived at the lab, it there were lab ‘assistants’ scurrying around in white coats like scientists, I loved this! OnceI I’d checked in, I was then asked to sit down and answer a questionnaire on an iPad. Most of the questions were multiple choice with visual options, like ‘Choose the image that most represents you’.

I don’t want to ruin the experience for anyone that is hoping to still take part – as it’s on till the end of June, so I won’t go into too much detail. But it was really fun, very unexpected and exciting! (Maybe I’ll add more detail when it’s finished!)

selfridges fragrance lab analysis

It turns out I’m a bit of an awkward customer. My first fragrance analysis (on the right above) really came out like a description of my personality, but I didn’t like the fragrance that it matched to at all. It had a strong metallic element to it which I just didn’t like unfortunately. My second option came out as a complete contradiction to the first! With the first being modern and unusual, the second was a pretty vintage floral scent which I loved! My lab dude (sorry I can’t remember his name) told me I was the most interesting customer he’d had! (Maybe by interesting he meant awkward!)

So I went with fragrance 248, which came in a lovely vintage style bottle and Selfridges pouch – I love that each bottle is different and corresponds to the ‘style’ of fragrance it holds. Also, these perfumes are all one offs made especially for The Fragrance Lab, so if you’re interested make sure you book your appointment now as they won’t be available again!

I would really highly recommend this experience – who doesn’t love a new perfume hey!? I also still have my London shopping haul to write up, so that will be on the blog soon!

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

The Fragrance Shop Discovery Club

the fragrance shop discovery club

Hi Guys!

I was recently asked the review The Fragrance Shop’s Discovery Box – I’d never heard of this before so was really excited to find out more as I’m a complete perfume fanatic and I love discovering new fragrances!

The Discovery Club is a quarterly subscription costing only £5 per box. In each box you will receive five perfume samples and money off vouchers for each fragrance too! Also, it’s handy to know you can cancel your subscription at any time.

This special edition box included seven samples (5 female and 2 male) for me to try. I received –

  • Guerlain – La Petite Robe Noire Couture
  • Givenchy – Very Irrésistible L’eau En Rose
  • Lacoste – Eau De Lacoste Sensuelle
  • Thierry Mugler – Alien Eau Extraordinaire
  • Elie Saab – L’eau Couture
  • Valentino – Uomo
  • Loewe – Solo Loewe Sport

My favourite is definitely Givenchy Very Irrésistible!

I’m a bit on the fence about this box to be honest – on one hand I kind of question is it really worth it, as these samples are usually available for free at perfume counters, but if you don’t live near any department or beauty stores (like me) it is a pretty handy way of trying out the latest perfumes from the comfort of your own home. And at only £5 a quarter it’s not exactly going to break the bank!

Let me know what you think! Is this box a good idea?? xxx

Yves Rocher So Elixir Purple EDP Review

Posted on April 15, 2014

yves rocher purple perfume

Hi Guys!

Today’s post is about a fab new perfume I’ve recently discovered – Yves Rocher So Elixir Purple, from Baobella. Now I’ve only recently heard of Yves Rocher, they are a French brand who have been voted the number one beauty care brand in France. So their products should be pretty good!

The So Elixir Purple EDP is described as ‘an incredibly feminine, floral-woody elixir’ – ooh err! And it is surprisingly very nice! I say surprisingly simply because I am notoriously fussy when it comes to perfumes – I would go as far as saying I’m a bit of a perfume snob – just any old EDT off the shelf will not do! So I was very pleasantly surprised with this one – the fragrance has notes of tuberose, bergamot, patchouli, benzoin extract, and vetiver essential oils, which are an amazing combination. The lovely thing about this fragrance is it has a ‘seductive’ evening element, but it’s not too heavy or overpowering so it’s great for day time too. This is now my new everyday go-to fragrance!

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried this perfume? Or any other Yves Rocher products? xxx
