I absolutely love banana scented things – both in food and beauty products, but for some reason when it comes to beauty and fragrance, banana scents just don’t come up very often – anyone know why that is? So, when I saw candle brand Boy Smells had teamed up with Magnolia Bakery to launch a limited edition banana pudding themed candle, I absolutely had to treat myself! (Big thanks to Cult Beauty for having a points system in place so I ended up purchasing the candle for free!)

For those that aren’t familiar, Magnolia Bakery hails from New York and now has locations across the US as well as internationally (though not the UK unfortunately)

Magnolia Bakery is world famous for their banana pudding – with creamy vanilla pudding layers, vanilla wafers and fresh bananas. I really hope I get to try this one day!So, let’s take a look at the candle! The price of this candle is up there at £52, but is it worth it?

Here’s what the brand says –

‘The best of Magnolia Bakery’s iconic pudding, with an added smoldering sensuality. The creamy classic banana and notes of vanilla are softened, while moody undertones of burning guaiac and leather are turned up. Cardamom spice and elemi resin add a refined smokiness to this deliciousness. A sinful dessert, made even more sinful.’

The Banana Pudding candle is definitely not what I was expecting – (admittedly I should have taken more notice of the product info!) I was expecting either a sweet, candy like banana scent (remember those soft foamy banana sweets?) or even a fresh ripe banana scent, either of these with a sweet ‘bakery’ vibe to them. However, the Banana Pudding candle actually has has a very deep, smokey scent, with distinct woody and fruity elements. The banana is there, but it’s not front and centre like I thought it might be. I do like this scent, actually the more I smell it the more I like it! But it’s not really making me think of baked goods – this isn’t a gourmand fragrance by any means, but I really feel it’s growing on me.

Also something to note, this candle smells even better once it’s been lit, the scent feels fuller, deeper and it’s really quite a sensual and mysterious aroma, it would make a great EDP fragrance!

I should also mention the scent notes – banana elemi, jasmine, davana, cardamom, cedar patchouli and guaiac. As I said, the banana is not the main character here – if you like smokey, intriguing scents, this could be one for you!Honestly, I need more banana scented products to be launched – maybe a banana milkshake perfume? Somebody make this happen!
