Escentric Molecules Celebrates 20 Years!
To mark this 20-year milestone, the brand is celebrating with a special launch; Escentric Molecules’ two best-selling fragrances are now available in 200ml format. If you’re a fragrance fanatic like me, you can probably guess this includes the brand’s most famous scents; Molecule 01 and Escentual 01. These brand new, special edition bottles feature weighty caps which have been precision engineered in anodised aluminium with CNC-engraved detailing. They also have silicone internal fitments, friction-fitted to the screw-thread pump, for a seamless and secure closure.
‘A Nod the Escentric Molecules’ design-led aesthetic, the cap adds a tactile, architectural finish, elevating the flacon into an object of desire. Still minimalist, but more luxurious.’ – Escentric Molecules.
If you’re not familiar with these fantastic fragrances, I’ll give you a quick overview…
Molecule 01 is a woody, musky scent, 100% comprised of a note called Iso E Super, which is a single molecule that was created in 1973. This cult classic fragrance, now two decades old, still feels modern as ever. There’s something so curious about this scent, it’s just so different to anything else I’ve tried; it’s woody, dry and addictive. Molecule 01 is genderless, completely unisex, and on me, it somehow appears and disappears throughout the day when I wear it, which I quite like. This is a scent that smells a little different to everyone that tries it, but to me, Molecule 01 is a warm, woody fragrance, airy and light. There’s something about Molecule 01 that’s so simple, beautiful and mysterious, this really is a unique scent.
‘Molecule 01 is for the individuals who might be a bit bored with fragrance and would prefer to radiate an aura. It’s difficult to call a single aroma-chemical a fragrance – it’s so much more personal,’ – Master Perfumer Geza Schoen.
The brand’s other bestseller, Escentric 01, is a fresh, woody, citrus fragrance. This one is comprised of quite a few notes, but still has a base of Iso E Super. I really like Escntric 01, it’s clearly a sibling to Molecule 01, but this time the scent is citrus forward in the opening with juicy lime blending with a hit of spicy pink pepper and aldehydes, for a bright and airy opening. In the heart of the scent you’ll find notes of orris and hedione, resulting in a heart that feels lightly woody and a touch powdery, still with the lime at the forefront of the scent, but now softer than earlier. In the base, you’ll find, of course, Iso E Super, this time along with incense, mastic and musk. The dry down on Escentric 01 is similar to Molecule 01, but the added incense and musk leave you with a cosy, woody, musky trail.
- Top Notes: Lime, Pink Pepper, Aldehydes
- Heart Notes: Orris, Hedione (green jasmine bud)
- Base Notes: Iso E Super, Incense, Mastic, Muscone (musk)
“With Escentric 01, I made the scent that I would want to wear myself,” says Geza. “I wanted to create something unconventional, not too perfumistic – something for my friends who said they didn’t like fragrance.”
Molecule 01 200ml is £215 and Escentric 01 200ml is £220. These fragrances are available now at Escentric.com, Cult Beauty and Space NK.
