Let’s start things off with a little story. Just over a year ago, my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a brand new mattress. We went to our local bed store, spent quite a long time sitting and laying on the mattresses, as you do, and ended up picking one that seemed just right. Unfortunately, this was the beginning of a nightmare when we found out the mattress made us incredibly hot, and I mean waking up dripping with sweat in the middle of the night hot, and the shop we bought from told us ‘tough’ and advised that they didn’t accept refunds.
So for the last year, we have been sleeping not so well on the comfortable, but hotter than a volcano mattress, and I’m now thanking my lucky stars that Simba has come to our rescue!
If you’re not familiar with Simba, they have been creating mattresses since 2002, and have sold over a million mattresses to this day. The brought together leading industry experts to create the ‘perfect’ mattress – one that uses cutting edge technology to give you the best night’s sleep yet.
Simba now offer many different mattress types, such as a super-king size mattress, as well as mattress toppers, bed frames, duvets, pillows and more. And a topper seemed like the perfect choice for us as our mattress is luckily very comfortable. But would the Simba matters topper be comfortable? And would it keep us cool? These were my big questions.
Simba offer two types of mattress topper, and the one I went for is the Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper. This one features four layers – a supersoft, breathable sleep surface, followed by a cooling Simbatex foam comfort layer, then an Airocoil spring support layer featuring 2500 Aerocoil springs, and finally a high density open-cell Simbatex foam base. The result promises to allow air flow, while drawing heat away from the body, keeping you cooler and more cushioned. The topper also includes a handy removable, washable cover.
So was the topper any good? The answer is yes! It’s SO comfortable I can’t even tell you! You just sink into it and it’s honestly just amazing. In terms of the temperature, which was my main issue – though it doesn’t feel ‘cooling’ as such, it definitely feels cooler than our old mattress, so this is a big win for me. I’ve been sleeping so well since using this topper, it’s definitely worth the price in my opinion.
I also picked up the fanciest, and most expensive duvet I think I’ve ever seen. The Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 Duvet is a really simple, yet effective idea. This duvet is actually two separate duvets that fix together. The set includes a super thin 3.5 tog summer duvet, and a 7 tog spring/autumn duvet – just fix them together with the popper buttons to make a 10.5 winter duvet – brilliant! And the set also comes with a storage bag for whichever duvet is not in use.
These duvets combine technologically advanced materials with pure cool cotton to provide an incredibly light but warm duvet offering superior breathability and temperature control. The layers include a Pure Better Cotton cover with Stratos Heat Control Technology, to help keep you cool, and super-soft, sustainable Simba Renew clusters with durable, moisture-wicking Modal fibres designed to support the body’s natural cooling process.
The duvets are both very thin; the 3.5 tog is thinner than my budget 4.5 tog duvet, but they feel denser and heavier than a standard duvet. I have to say, though these duvets have cooling technology, I didn’t feel like the 3.5 tog was cooler than my current 4.5 tog duvet, though it was really comfortable, and I do love how thin it is.
So the big question is, are Simba bed products worth the high price point?
Coming in at £329, the Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper is at the higher end in terms of price, but I can honestly say this has been a true godsend. This topper is SO comfortable, my husband and I can both truly feel the temperature difference compared to our mattress – I haven’t woken up hot and sweaty since using this and I 100% think it’s worth the money.
And the Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 Duvet, this isn’t a necessity, but boy is it a nice luxury to have! Now this duvet set is expensive… for a king it’s £399 which I know is a lot, but they are incredibly comfortable, and if looked after they will last you many years to come.
If you value your comfort and sleep, and if you’re looking for a new mattress, I’d highly recommend Simba mattress toppers as a fantastic way to upgrade your current mattress.
