Live ‘n’ Loud is my second fragrance from Jusbox Perfumes (you can check out my first review of No Rules EDP here) – if you haven’t heard of Jusbox, they really are a very interesting niche fragrance brand, offering a range of conceptual scents based on the similarities between perfume and music. 

Without necessarily realising, we all connect with both fragrance and music in an emotional way, it’s an instinctive response – like when you hear a particular song that instantly makes you feel good, or smell a scent that makes you think of a happy memory. Olfaction has the magical ability to reveal the most hidden emotions and memories – one sniff of a scent, one bar of a favourite track and we are transported across time and space to a specific moment in our memories. It’s truly magical!

On to the fragrance now. Live ‘n’ Loud is an oudy oriental scent that’s lively and energetic, with a touch of spice. Described as a playlist that boosts the mind, Live ’n’ Loud is comprised as a compilation of scents, whose notes aim to convey different music genres to the wearer.

The fragrance opens with ‘Disco and Hip-Hop’ (Bergamot and Cardamom) giving a bright and vibrant opening. The heart of ‘Latino and Rock’ (Rose, Gernauim and Cinnamon) is sensual, warm and intriguing. And the base, ‘Punk and Heavy Metal’ (Patchouli, Oud, Amber, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Labdanum and Musk) leaves you with a dry down that’s strong yet sweet.

I’m not the biggest fan out oud personally, but the oud here is light, almost delicate, and just fits in perfectly with the rest of the notes. I love that this fragrance really does take you on a journey of contrasts, from the zesty and energetic opening, right through to the intense, moody base. This perfume is complex, opulent and captivating. And though technically marketed as a female scent, it’s very much unisex to me. In my opinion both men and women could wear this with ease.
