Five of the Best Amber Fragrances You Need To Try
1 February, 2021
I’ve been really enjoying some lovely amber fragrances over the last couple of months. If you’re not too familiar with ambers, it’s worth noting they work really well in colder weather – they’re perfect for giving the wearer a wonderfully warming, comforting feeling. I’ve gathered together a few today that I’ve been trying out – enjoy!
Let’s kick things off with a lovely affordable fragrance – Roberto Cavalli Florence Amber (£39.00 for 50ml at Notino)
- Top notes: Amber, Lemon and Italian Mandarin
- Middle notes: Quince, Gardenia and Cashmere Wood
- Base notes: Vanilla, Honey and Patchouli
Next up is L’Occitane Amber Almond Eau de Parfum (£89 for 90ml at L’Occitane)
I have to say I think this is my favourite of the five fragrances today. L’Occitane have recently launched three new scents; Amber Almond, Oud Praline and Musk Rose. I haven’t tried the latter two, but if this one is anything to go by, I’m sure they will be wonderful too!
Amber Almond is a beautiful intense gourmand fragrance, oriental and woody, it combines notes of warming almond and rich amber with fresh notes of coriander-saffron accord. It’s warm and comforting and perfect for the current cold weather. I’d say this is definitely unisex, and for me it offers just the perfect combination of fresh and sweet notes.
- Top notes: Almond, Coriander, Saffron Accord and Lavender
- Middle notes: Nutmeg, Cedar, Belle de Nuit and Incense
- Base notes: Cashmere Wood, Cypriol, Oud Wood and White Musk.
Next up we have Jimmy Choo Amber Kiss Eau de Parfum (£175 for 125ml exclusively at Harrods)
If you’re feeling spendy and in the mood for a high end amber, Jimmy Choo could have just what you’re looking for. They’ve recently launched a capsule cosmetic line, including lipsticks and nail polishes, as well as a small selection of fragrances. The Seduction Collection includes six ultra-feminine fragrances, with each scent based on a different note, to ‘evoke the multiple facets of the Jimmy Choo woman’. I won’t go into the details of the other scents now, but I will say I have my eye on the Vanilla one next!
Amber Kiss is a beautiful, sensual and rich oriental woody scent with notes of amber, patchouli, pink pepper, bergamot and cedarwood. It’s very much a highly feminine and elegant scent, enveloping the wearer in a beautiful luminous veil of sweet amber. The bottle is also rather stunning too!
I also have the lovely Aerin Amber Musk Eau de Parfum (£99 for 50ml at John Lewis)
“Amber Musk is a warm, inviting scent you want to wrap yourself in – like a soft cozy blanket on a cold snowy night.” – Aerin
This quote is pretty much spot on. Amber Musk is a beautiful composition of sensual floral notes, powdery, cream musks and of course amber. Amber Musk is both warm and inviting, opening with notes of creamy coconut, honeyed amber, ambrox and rose centifolia. While the heart of muguet and balsamic benzoin leads to a cosy dry down of sandalwood and musk.
My only criticism here is that unfortunately this isn’t the longest lasting scent. You will need a few re-sprays throughout the day with this one. It is a beautiful fragrance though, and definitely one to try if you love feminine ambers.
- Top notes: Ambrox, Coconut Water and Rose Centifolia
- Middle notes: Muguet and Benzoin
- Base notes: Sandalwood and Musk
And last but not least – Jeroboam Ambra Extrait de Parfum (£90.00 for 30ml)
Another clear unisex scent here, this is my second bottle of Jeroboam Ambra and I’m sure it won’t be my last! Ambra is a beautiful modern oriental scent, that’s woody, musky and sensual. Opening with top notes of bergamot, geranium and incense, leading to a heart of Peru balsam and patchouli. The base includes notes of vetiver, vanilla, tonka bean and musks.
- Top notes: Bergamot, Geranium and Incense
- Heart notes: Peru, Balsam and Patchouli
- Base notes: Vetiver, Vanilla, Tonka Bean and Musks
