Following on from the beautiful Pivoine Sublime Collection, L’Occitane’s latest releases focus on anti-ageing care for the body. It sounds pretty obvious to incorporate anti-ageing elements into body-specific products but it’s not something you come across that often – many products just seem to focus on products for the face and neck areas where ageing is most visible. It’s great to see that L’Occitane’s two new products – the Almond Velvet Balm, and the Almond Velvet Serum have been specifically formulated to help improve signs of ageing, as well as reducing age spots and hyper pigmentation, and helping to restore firmness whilst combating lines and wrinkles.
L’Occitane must be onto something pretty special here as they have three patents pending on, guess what – almonds! The first one being almond proteins which create a firming ‘mesh’ across the skin. Combining this with silicium gives the formula its smoothing, lifting and toning properties. The second and third patents are on the almond bud complex which has skin refining properties and the youth complex which is an exclusive blend of three active ingredients derived from the almond tree, including smoothing proteins, stimulation bud extracts and regenerating native cells to help improve the five signs of ageing.
So what about the products? The Almond Velvet Balm (£42) is a beautifully scented balm that feels rich and comforting on the skin. The scent was actually quite pleasantly surprising, it doesn’t smell at all like I was expecting it to. It has a very light and refreshing floral scent that lingers for a good few hours after application. The purpose of the Almond Velvet Balm is to target the five signs of ageing, including – dryness, skin slackening, lack of tonicity, fine lines and skin irregularities. I have to say this product feels completely luxurious, leaving my skin nourished and physically looking more plumped after only one application. And after one month, it also promises to increase firmness and reduce irregularities and fine lines.
The Almond Velvet Serum (£38) is another beautifully scented product. This is L’Occitanes first ever anti-ageing serum, combining the almond youth complex with vitamin c and carefully selected actives to help even out skin tone and brighten the complexion. This serum has a fabulous super light and silky texture that’s rapidly absorbed, where it acts deep within the skin to reverse sun damage and plump and firm. L’Occitane promises that after only one month, skin texture will look smoother and more even. And after two months, sun induced dark spots will appear less visible and skin’s youthfulness will be revealed.
The words luxury and targeted definitely spring to mind when summing up these products, and yes they are on the pricey side but definitely worth every penny in my opinion. If you’re looking to up your skin care game then I highly recommend you try the Almond Velvet Duo out.
