Introducing The Kayali Oudgasm Fragrance Collection
4 October, 2023
Kayali have just launched a brand new mini fragrance collection, so you know I had to snap them up!
This four piece collection is based on oud – for those not familiar with oud, this can be quite a tricky note in fragrance, it can be completely gorgeous, adding layers of depth to a fragrance that really adds something special, but it can also have quite a ‘marmite’ love it or hate it affect. Some oud scents can be very challenging indeed! Oud can actually manifest in many different ways depending on its origin – it can be woody, earthy and rich, leathery or smokey – it can also be animalic, ‘skanky’ and even fecal.
However you interpret oud, it’s usually a deep, intense note, giving fragrance a richness and seductive edge. I would class three out of the four fragrances in this collection as ‘safer’ ouds, that many will enjoy, with one of them being particularly nice!
‘Crafted with passion and inspired by Mona Kattan’s intense love for oud, KAYALI’s Oudgasm Collection celebrates the many facets of one of perfume’s most precious and opulent ingredients. These unisex scents were designed to magnify the magic of oud and explore the infinite universe of layering possibilities. Intense, sensual and luxurious, each fragrance offers a modern twist on the art and rituals of Middle Eastern fragrance layering – ready to be shared with the world.’
Oudgasm Vanilla Oud – This is a rich, warm and spicy scent with notes of sweet vanilla sugar, praline and oud. I expected this would be my favourite because I love vanilla – and it actually is! This one is the sweetest and ‘safest’ out of the collection in my opinion, and I’ve really been enjoying wearing it recently. Vanilla Oud is a gorgeous intense yet very wearable scent. It definitely has a mass appeal – this is a must-try for vanilla lovers!
- Top Notes: Pear, Praline & Saffron
- Heart Notes: Bulgarian Rose
- Base Notes: Cashmere Wood, Madagascar Vanilla, White Musk, Oakmoss & Oud
Oudgasm Cafe Oud – Another warm, spicy and this time woody fragrance, Cafe Oud features notes of creamy cappuccino, sweet rose damascena and oud. This is another one that’s really nice, it’s my second favourite out of the collection, though I feel like I would have to be in the right mood to wear this one. It’s obvious very coffee forward, so If you enjoy coffee notes in fragrance as well as oud, I’d definitely recommend checking this out.
- Top Notes: Bergamot, Mandarin & Capuccino
- Heart Notes: Geranium & Rose Damascena
- Base Notes: Madagascar Vanilla, White Musk, Patchouli & Oud
Oudgasm Rose Oud – This is an earthy, woody fragrance, with notes of sparkling pear, bulgarian rose, geranium and oud. Rose and oud are a classic pairing, and one of my favourite rose and oud scents is Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud, and I was hoping this might be similar, but unfortunately I really don’t think it is. This rose oud scent is fine, but I feel it’s just missing something unfortunately.
- Top Notes: Pear, Lemon & Geranium
- Heart Notes: Bulgarian Rose & Peony
- Base Notes: Madagascar Vanilla, Cashmere Wood & Oud
Oudgasm Tobacco Oud – This is another earthy, woody scent, this time with notes of mandarin, saffron, tobacco and oud. I expected this to possibly be not for me, and probably the most challenging of the collection, and again I was right! Tobacco Oud is super intense, but does mellow in the dry down. This one is more masculine leaning too. If you’re a tobacco and oud fan this might do it for you, but this one is a pass from me.
- Top Notes: Mandarin, Clary Sage, Plum, White Honey & Geranium
- Heart Notes: Clove & Saffron
- Base Notes: Tobacco, Patchouli, Vanilla, Benzoin, Praline & Oud
Have you tried any of these fragrances? Let me know your thoughts x
