Following on from my Best Amber Fragrances post, I thought I’d continue the theme and gather together my favourite cherry scents today. I absolutely adore cherry based fragrances, I don’t know what it is with cherry but I’m just completely drawn to it. I’ve tried quite a few cherry perfumes over the last few years, but these are my all time favourites –Let’s kick things off with Room 1015 Cherry Punk. Cherry Punk is a sexy, sultry fragrance, one to be worn with confidence. Imagine sweet cherry coke accidentally spilled on a buttery soft leather jacket. It slowly soaks into the fabric, creating a decadent sweet cherry-leather aroma. I think the name fits this fragrance perfectly, there’s something very rebellious and also alluring about Cherry Punk. Room 1015 paints a picture of cool kids in the punk era ‘With bleached hair swapping rare vinyl records. Distressed denim, hand-painted leather, latex, tartans, prints that would make your parents blush’ and I think this is a perfectly fitting description for the fragrance. Cherry Punk is very much a unisex scent. Anyone can wear this, you just need the right attitude.

• Heart Notes: Violet, Jasmine Absolute, Mimosa
• Base Notes: Patchouli, Tonka Bean, Black Leather

Next, Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Black Perfecto – I actually prefer this one to the original La Petite Robe Noire, but over all they are pretty similar. Black Perfecto is delicious and intoxicating, but not quite gourmand. Dark and indulgent, without being too heavy and cloying. La Petite Robe Noire Black Perfecto opens with a rich, dark and sour cherry liqueur, blended with notes of tea and almond. The floral heart includes rose and liquorice, the licorice being more dominant, but the rose is there faintly in the background, leading to the sweet and powdery dry down, with notes of leather, tonka, patchouli and musk.

• Base Notes: Leather, Tonka, Patchouli & Black Musk

Aaron Terence Hughes Raw Cherry – this is an aromatic, woody, cherry scent, that’s very seductive – this is definitely an evening or date night fragrance. Opening with dark, slightly sour, juicy cherries, and citrus notes, this scent is incredibly addictive. The heart includes gourmand notes of tonka and dark chocolate blended with woods. At the base you’ll find Thai oud, amaretto, vanilla, nutmeg, and damask rose. I don’t really notice the vanilla though, and I also don’t really notice the oud either – but I think it’s this that gives the scent a certain ‘dirty’ feel. Raw Cherry is very sultry and provocative, the notes are perfectly balanced, and is also super long lasting. I’d say Raw Cherry is the most masculine out of the bunch today, mostly found in the dry down, but it’s still very much a unisex scent.

• Heart Notes: Woodsy Notes, Dark Chocolate & Tonka Bean
• Base Notes: Thailand Oud, Amaretto, Vanilla, Nutmeg & Damask Rose.

Estee Lauder Modern Muse le Rouge Gloss EDP – this is a sweet, sensual and unique perfume, with prominent notes of cherry and vinyl, designed to evoke the impression of a high-shine lip lacquer worn by a confident, powerful woman. Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss is fruity and woody, opening with notes of succulent candied black cherry, spicy pink pepper, carrot seeds and mandarin orange, leading to a blooming floral heart of powdered rose contrasting with notes of warm vinyl and leather, leading to a dry down of vanilla and patchouli.

This is quite an unusual cherry scent, and rather unexpected from Estée Lauder but nevertheless very welcome. The vinyl note here initially sounds pretty out of place, but strangely it just works. The combination of cherry, vinyl, rose and leather gives an almost makeup/plastic impression – it makes me think of a bright red glossy, waxy lipstick, though this fragrance doesn’t smell like lipstick at all. This is definitely one worth trying if you’re into cherry scents.

• Heart Notes: Vinyl, Rose, Leather & Jasmine
• Base Notes: Vanilla, Patchouli, Honey, Saffron, Styrax & Labdanum.

I’ve also just recently picked up the latest launch from Kayali, Kayali Lovefest Burning Cherry – this is one of those fragrances where it’s not what I was expecting, but I don’t know what I was expecting. You do actually get exactly what it says on the bottle (so I don’t know what I was thinking!) Burning Cherry is a beautiful woody gourmand scent, contrasting notes of sparkling Italian bergamot, succulent burning black cherry, sweet raspberries and caramelised praline, against smoky, earthy notes of palo santo, guaiac wood, patchouli and vetiver.

This is definitely in my top 3 Kayali fragrances, I can’t get enough of Burning Cherry!

• Heart Notes: Rose Damascena Essence, Jasmine Sambac, Heliotrope, Praline.
• Base Notes: Palo Santo, Guaiac Wood, Patchouli Prisma, Peru Balsam, Tonka Beans Absolute, Vetiver Haiti Essence, Ambrettolide.

Fragranza Amarena Cherry – Amarena Cherry is a dupe for Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry, and it’s basically what Lost Cherry should have been. I’m sorry to say it – and I do love Lost Cherry, but it’s just lacking staying power unfortunately. I actually thought Lost Cherry was the bees knees when I first bought it, and while on a cherry kick shortly after I then picked up Amarena Cherry, and realised that Lost Cherry wasn’t quite as good as I initially thought.

Amarena Cherry opens with a blend of juicy, tart, sour cherries, Turkish rose and bitter almond. The heart of floral jasmine and rich cherry liqueur leads to a base of woodsy notes, balsam and vetiver.

To compare the two – Amarena Cherry is slightly more of a feminine fragrance, it’s a fruity floral gourmand – a bit less boozy, a tiny bit sweeter, and heavier on the almond. It’s very intense, it lasts forever and it’s very ‘full bodied’ if that makes sense. The only downside is that the brand isn’t available in the UK. You have to order direct from the US, but even with shipping and fees, it’ll still cost you a lot less than Lost Cherry.

• Base Notes: Tonka Bean, Peru Balsam, Sandalowood, Sandalwood and Vetiver.

And last but not least. my all-time favourite cherry scent – BDK Rouge Smoking EDP.

You know when you smell a fragrance and your heart just skips a beat, and you know ‘this is the one‘ – well that’s what Rouge Smoking did to me.

First of all I love the bottle, and the striking red colour of the juice is the perfect indication of the scent held inside. This fragrance makes me think of cherry coke – but in the most sophisticated, high-end way. Rouge Smoking is definitely not your average cherry fragrance, this is a beautiful, enveloping, but not overly heavy scent, with sweet cherry and rich, warm vanilla. The heliotrope and cashmere really give it that special something – it’s like being wrapped in a cherry-tinted fluffy cloud. It’s a beautifully intoxicating cherry fragrance, definitely feminine, slightly powdery (giving a hint of ‘lipstick’) It’s a real showstopper, and unlike any other cherry scent I’ve tried. If you love cherry fragrances, this is a must have for your collection.

• Base notes: Ambroxan, Cashmeran, Tonka bean, Labdanum & White Musk
